12 best powerlines
Powerline network adapters, also known as powerline Ethernet adapters, are devices used to extend a local area network (LAN) using the existing electrical wiring in a building. These devices utilize the electrical circuitry to transmit data signals, essentially turning electrical outlets into network ports.
Here are key points about powerline network adapters:
Functionality: Powerline network adapters work by transmitting data signals over the existing electrical wiring in a building. They use a technique called Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) to send and receive data packets.
Plug-and-Play Setup: Setting up powerline network adapters is typically straightforward. Users plug one adapter into a power outlet near their router and connect it to the router using an Ethernet cable. The second adapter is plugged into a power outlet near the device needing network connectivity, and it's also connected to the device via Ethernet.
Data Transmission Speeds: Powerline network adapters offer different speeds, typically advertised as Mbps (megabits per second). The actual speed can vary based on factors such as the quality and age of the electrical wiring, interference, and distance between the adapters.
Interference and Performance: Electrical devices in the building, such as microwaves, washing machines, or even neighboring powerline adapters, can introduce interference and affect the performance of powerline network adapters. It's recommended to avoid plugging powerline adapters into power strips or surge protectors, as these can also degrade performance.
Security: Powerline network adapters often support encryption to secure the data transmission over the electrical wiring.Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a common encryption standard used to protect data.
Compatibility: Powerline network adapters are usually compatible with other brands and models that adhere to the same powerline communication standard (e.g., HomePlug AV, AV2). However, for optimal performance, using adapters from the same manufacturer and series is recommended.
Use Cases: Powerline network adapters are especially useful in situations where running Ethernet cables is impractical or costly, such as in older buildings where installing new network cables is challenging.
Limitations: While powerline adapters can be a convenient solution, the actual speed and reliability are influenced by the quality of the electrical wiring and other factors in the building. Additionally, they may not perform as well over circuits that have multiple breakers or are spread across different phases.
In summary, powerline network adapters are devices that use existing electrical wiring to extend a network within a building, providing an alternative to traditional wired or wireless networking. They offer a simple setup and can be a useful solution for achieving network connectivity in areas where conventional methods are not practical.

Power line products in general, transmit data through the power line of your house. The power line rate is mainly decided by the quality of power line environment it’s operating in. When your power line rate is low, you may try the steps below to improve the quality of service.
Step 1:
Please check whether your powerline adapters are plugged directly into a wall outlet. If not, please move the adapters to an outlet on the wall.
Step 2:
Please check if there are electrical devices, which have a motor inside them, around the powerline adapters. Such equipment can be air-conditioners, washing-machines, electric-fans etc.. Please move such equipment to another location if possible, or move powerline adapters away from such equipment. You may also buy a surge protector and plug such equipments to its outlets to avoid any interference they may cause.
Step 3:
Please check if there are AC power adapters, such as those used for mobile phones, laptops or something else around the adapters. If the quality of AC power adapter is not good, it may cause noise on the power line circuit. Please move it to another place away from the powerline adapters.
Step 4:
Please check if the distance between the adapters is too long. In theory, the maximum distance is 300 meters. However, with interference and line quality, it will be hard to reach the full 300 meters.

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone tried this setup with an extra wireless router at the end |
Answer: | Yes. I have a Linsys N on mine. You have to disable the DHCP on the slave router. Also you need to assign a static IP on the router. Use something like 192.168.1.250. Then only plug into the ports with the line from the wall unit and not into the internet/supply port. If you have a 4 port router with 1 internet port, you have to use one of the ports for the service so you can hook up 3 other direct connects. You then have to rename the wireless on the "slave" router to exactly match any other wireless providing service same with password. You need to make it a duplicate router. Good luck |
Question: | How secure this is? I assume it is not just limited to your house's internal circuit. Could it be accessed from outside the internal house circuit |
Answer: | These systems are hackable, but it takes a lot of work by a good hacker. Here's an excellent treatise on this subject: bentasker dot co dot uk/documentation/security/282-infiltrating-a-network-via-powerline-homeplugav-adapters As this treatise says at the end, TP-Link has released a firmware update to fix this issue, and that new items leaving the factory would not be affected. Users with affected devices can download the firmware update from tp-link dot com/en/. |
Question: | Can you add additional powerline devices to network |
Answer: | Of course you can but remember the speed its divided in the number of devices conected. your maximin badwith will allways be 500 mbps in the powerline network |
Question: | So this is a wifi repeater and it turns your electrical system into ethernet cable too |
Answer: | The TL-WPA4220 KIT allows you to expand your home's Ethernet connectivity using the existing electrical wiring within your walls, while also providing Wi-Fi signal broadcast at the Powerline Wi-Fi Adapter (TL-WPA4220) location. Simply plug the TL-PA4010 (smaller unit) into a wall outlet near your router and connect it to the router via Ethernet, then plug the TL-WPA4220 unit into a wall outlet at the desired location. User questions & answers
Question: | If I buy two of these kits will I have 1 sender and three receivers or 2 pairs |
Answer: | Keep in mind, the video on a product page misleads customers! You can't buy WiFi PL extender PLW1010 as they say in Video. If you buy two kits, you'll have - one powerline LAN distributor (non-wifi) - two WiFi extenders (each: PL receiver + Wifi broadcasting + 1 Ethernet Port) - one powerline receiver (non-wifi) you can plug to the power outlet and use as single Ethernet port |
Question: | Can someone tell me what this does |
Answer: | Depends on which version you refer to. The PLW1010 has WiFi capability, the PL1010 does not. They both have an ethernet port. The base unit is located near your router - use ethernet to connect the base unit to your router to get the best throughput from your router and into the house wiring. Plug it into an Electrical outlet and it sends your LAN signal through your house wiring to be picked up by the remote unit(s) plugged into wiring elsewhere in the house. The remote unit has an Ethernet port, so you can attach a Smart TV, BluRay, Game Console, whatever, to the ethernet and get pretty good network response (probably not gigabit, but pretty good anyway). With the Wifi Version (the PLW1010) the remote unit ALSO transmits WiFi signal. I have not purchased this WiFi product yet, I have a ethernet only version right now and looking at this to expand my iPhone/tablet Wifi signal in remote parts of the house). As such, I have an older house and the electrical wiring is sketchy and is rather noisy and fluctuates, but this technology seems to work nonetheless even on the other side of the house, I even have had the base unit plugged into an extension cord and it still works. So bottom line, this will extend your LAN signal to another room of the house via ethernet, and the WiFi version also creates a WiFi Access Point in that remote room. From what others say here, that Wifi is an extension of your router WiFi in SSID/pw. I hope this answers your question. |
Question: | Does this come with 2 units |
Answer: | Comes with 2 units. I was able to get a POE switch to work as well (get an unmanaged one for less complicated setup), and I added in multiple POE Cameras to it. Works great! |
Question: | Do you end up with a new network name or does it mirror your existing wi fi network (so you don't have to have devices switch networks |
Answer: | Most of the answers here are giving you bits and pieces. Here's the scoop from a long time network engineer and administrator. (BTW, I'm here because I'm buying another one for another client.) 1. The wired devices in this listing act as if you had a long Ethernet cable. It's transparent. Its a work of art. Much better than any mesh system 2. As far as the wireless, there are two options - The thing to remember is most devices (computers phones, tablets are fairly single minded when it comes to finding a better signal so if they can see the current access point at all they will hang on for dear life. You can turn off the wifi on the device and turn it back on and that will help it to reanalyze the situation. Business systems which have many of these monitor where devices are and will automatically kick a device off of one, forcing it to reanalyze the situation. a. Use the default setup - some people like this because then they can tell which antenna (access point) their device is connected. b. Duplicate the existing wifi network - This can be done using the WPS setup or manually. I like doing it manually so I can configure the whole setup (channel, channel width, security level, etc.) For the most part the handoff should work seamlessly however there may be times where certain devices (usually older ones) will refuse to change or take a while to make the switch. For most of my clients when I have to setup one of these, I duplicate the existing network to make it easier on them. I have yet to hear of any complaints. Two more details. For best performance of any of these devices 1. It MUST be plugged into the wall outlet, no power taps or surge protectors. They have filters which choke the communication 2. These normally wont work across a meter - in other words, you probably cant use it to share internet with your next door neighbor. There are a few instances where it works but they are few. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If your switch/modem is far from the security camera...would the use of a poe injector and a powerline adapter be "in therory" the same as hardwiring |
Answer: | Late response, but No, not equal to hardwiring. You'll have much less bandwidth/speed drop with hardwire. Powerline depends on how far the breakers are and overall system layout. |
Question: | If my router supports mimo and link aggregation, can i plug both ethernet ports into my router to increase bandwidth to the powerline network |
Answer: | No. The device internally uses MIMO between the endpoints to increase speed, and the 2 ports are essentially a switch (i believe the powerline is just another 'switch' leg). But it does not allow you to bind the ports together as a link. Frankly, I 'only' get about 250-350Mbps through the devices even with Gigabit Ethernet connected, so even if it did support it you'd get nowhere NEAR the expected speed increase. |
Question: | Can I add a third device to extend my ethernet to another floor |
Answer: | I have router on 2nd floor, my PC and NAS on the first. The whole idea was to cover house with wifi and not to run the wire to PC and NAS and it works fine. |
Question: | Will these work in a house with no grounds? None of the outlets in my house have a ground wire |
Answer: | They will not fully work in your situation. The MIMO technology, where they talk about having two separate data streams between the devices, requires a ground plug. This is because one of the data streams goes over the actual electrical circuit that is delivering power, and the other over the ground wire. So even if it were to work with one of your adapters for three prong devices, you would be paying more for performance that you will never ever get, since you'd be buying a two stream device and your wiring is incapable of delivering more than one stream. Some of the other TP-Link kits that aren't MIMO (usually advertised as 500-600 mbps), such as the one I have, deliver only one stream and have only two prongs. They are also a lot cheaper. Don't buy this if your wiring doesn't have a ground wire as you are wasting your money. Buy one of the cheaper kits. All of my wiring has ground wires, so I can't say how well the two prong designs will work with your older wiring. But at least you won't be wasting money on something guaranteed to never fully perform. |

Expand Your Wired and Wireless Network
Comes in a set of two adapters to quickly and easily expand your home’s Ethernet through your power outlets and into hard to reach areas using HomePlug AV technology.
To set up, plug one adapter into a nearby outlet and connect it to your router using the included Ethernet cable.
Then, take the second adapter and plug it in and connect it to any device, also using an Ethernet cable. Your powerline adapters should automatically detect and establish a strong AV600* connection.
Pressing the Wi-Fi Clone button along with the WPS button on your router will automatically copy the router’s SSID and Password, and establish your extended Wi-Fi network.
*The terms 'AV600' and '600Mbps' are derived from applicable specifications and refer to the theoretical maximum physical-layer data transfer rate. Those terms are used on this product solely to indicate its compatibility with other 'AV600' or '600Mbps' PowerLine devices. Actual data speeds vary.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is av1000 gigabit powerline tl-pa7010 used for |
Answer: | The Powerline adapter kit allows you to connect the two devices into your home's power grid and send and receive fast Ethernet without running cables. One device should be placed near your router, the other near the device you need Ethernet for. Once connected to each other (viewable in the app), it provides fast Ethernet via your home power outlets through the Powerline devices. |
Question: | Does it need to be on the same circut |
Answer: | No. You will have one link hooked up to your router/modem and the other link is where you will have your desktop/laptop and able to be connected to the internet without the need of a giant ethernet cord. |
Question: | Are the 7010 and 7020 models compatible |
Answer: | Yes, they are compatible with each other and even with different brands.I'm using TP-Link two units and ZyXEL two units for over 3 years. |
Question: | What is this for |
Answer: | Running wired internet from one location to another using the electrical wiring of the house to act as category 5 ethernet cable. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this work with Comcast router |
Answer: | The NetGear 1000 will work with any router with an ethernet port available |
Question: | There is "wired" version & "wireless" version. Does this mean wired one only works at new access point if you connect computer w/ethernet |
Answer: | This unit does not extend the wifi range of your router/network. What it does is you plug one into the wall, and connect it to your router, then you plug the other one into the wall, and connect it to your computer via an ethernet (cat5) cable. |
Question: | If I am on a 5ghz wifi network downstairs, can I go upstairs and be automatically transfered to this powerline adapter's 5ghz wifi network |
Answer: | Yes, that works for me. I have a Cisco wireless router, then use the PL1000/PLW1000 combo to broadcast the internet from another part of the house. I gave the PLW1000 the same SSID and password as my Cisco wireless router, and my phone will switch from one to the other as I move around the house. I can tell because the WiFi signal strength on my phone drops to almost zero as I move away from one access point, then suddenly jumps to full strength as I approach the other. |
Question: | I see only 1 adapter in the picture, we will need the 2nd as a receiver. Is that part of this |
Answer: | There are two adapters included. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these two unit (transmitter and receiver) or one unit in |
Answer: | It's two parts yes. Works really good too. |
Question: | does this come with two devices? do all i have to do is plug in the device and then i can connect my computer with the ethernet cable |
Answer: | It comes with the 2 wall adapters that you need. you can then plug the adapter away from your router into an outlet near your desktop and plug the Ethernet cable in that way |
Question: | Can a switch be attached to the pc end of the connection to allow for two pc's to connect? can this be expanded by adding more individual units |
Answer: | Yes, you should be able to connect a switch to these adapters without issue. Keep in mind that while the switch prevents collisions these adapters work like a hub inside the power lines of your home. It is fine for two adapters regardless of how many devices are connected to either adapter but once you plug a third adapter in it becomes a collision domain and you can potentially take a small performance hit. This should not be noticeable though unless you have several of these adapters connected and using data at once. Basically when practical it is better to connect several devices to one adapter through a switch or wireless access point than to add a second power adapter. |
Question: | Can I use more than 2 units |
Answer: | These units work in pairs so if you configure them with two devices paired for 1 ethernet connection then yes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello good night, if I need to put in 4 units in different bedrooms, would I need to buy 2 boxes of this same product? Greetings |
Answer: | There are 2 each, so yes |
Question: | Are these compatible with the Av600 units |
Answer: | Should be as they would all use the same protocols. |
Question: | Does the secondary unit always stay in energy saving money? I can't seem to keep it lit as if it was extending and my internet hasn't gotten any bette |
Answer: | Please describe what exactly you have tried so far. Often I can get understand the meaning of what is written, even with typos but in this case I need to know more. Where are the devices connected to power in relation to the WiFi router? What WiFi router is being used? How are the devices configured (all settings please)? What are all the settings on the WiFi router? Properly configured, the Ethernet traffic will be repeated using your power line, subject to certain caveats such as the signal not having to pass through a transformer. Try setting it up with all devices in the same room and on the same power circuit. Once that works try moving the “second” unit further and further away towards your preferred location. That being said, in my house, I don’t get anywhere near the rated transfer rate (under 100Mbps). Good luck. |
Question: | Will this work for voip phone system |
Answer: | It should. I have run game systems and servers through them. |

Question: | Can you use more than one rx? meaning if i go modem->router->switch->nexuslink-kit1->circuit1->nexuslink-kit |
Answer: | As long as one is connected to your switch, the rest will connect through it. ('up to 16') |
Question: | Can i connect a receiving unit into an unmanaged switch so i can connect tv, directtv, xbox, etc to wired internet at one location |
Answer: | Yes, just treat two adapters as a long Ethernet cord. ( that happens to connect thru home wiring) |
Question: | Wifi n300 (gpl-1200wn |
