11 best wi fi
Wi-Fi, short for Wireless Fidelity, is a wireless communication technology that enables devices like laptops, smartphones, tablets, and more to connect to the internet and local area networks without the need for physical cables. It is a fundamental technology in the realm of laptops, network adapters, networking products, computer accessories, and electronics. Here are some key aspects of Wi-Fi:
Wireless Networking: Wi-Fi allows devices to establish wireless connections to a local network or the internet. It operates using radio frequency signals to transmit data between devices and a wireless router or access point.
Components: Wi-Fi involves several key components, including wireless routers, access points, network adapters (such as those found in laptops), and wireless devices like smartphones and tablets. These components work together to create a wireless network.
Standards: Wi-Fi technology is defined by a set of standards developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, a consortium of technology companies. Common Wi-Fi standards include 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac, and the latest, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6). Each new standard typically offers improvements in speed, range, and reliability.
Frequency Bands: Wi-Fi operates in different frequency bands, including 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The 2.4 GHz band is typically slower but has better range, while the 5 GHz band offers higher speeds but shorter range.
Security: Wi-Fi networks can be secured using encryption protocols like WPA3 (the latest standard) to protect data from unauthorized access. It's crucial to secure Wi-Fi networks to prevent unauthorized use and data breaches.
Connectivity: Wi-Fi enables multiple devices within its range to connect simultaneously, making it a convenient choice for homes, offices, cafes, airports, and other public spaces where multiple users need internet access.
Hotspots: Public Wi-Fi hotspots are widely available in places like coffee shops, airports, libraries, and hotels. These hotspots provide internet access to users, often requiring authentication or a password.
Range Extenders: In cases where the Wi-Fi signal doesn't cover an entire area, range extenders or repeaters can be used to amplify and extend the signal, providing coverage in larger spaces.
Mesh Networks: Mesh Wi-Fi systems use multiple interconnected access points to create a seamless and robust Wi-Fi network with consistent coverage throughout a home or office.
Evolution: Wi-Fi technology continues to evolve.Newer standards aim to provide faster speeds, reduced latency, improved capacity, and better performance in crowded environments.
Interference: Wi-Fi signals can be affected by interference from other electronic devices, neighboring networks, or physical obstacles like walls and floors. Proper placement of routers and access points can help mitigate interference.
Guest Networks: Many Wi-Fi routers support guest network features, which allow you to create separate networks for guests with limited access to your primary network, enhancing security.
In summary, Wi-Fi is a wireless communication technology that plays a crucial role in modern computing and connectivity. It enables devices to connect to networks and the internet without the need for physical cables, making it an essential component of laptops, network adapters, networking products, computer accessories, and various other electronic devices.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a relatively new hp printer that i cannot connect as it uses wps. is there a way around this? if not, i will have to return. unhappy with this |
Answer: | Hi Jason,Thanks for reaching out and for your question! If you'd like to use an Airport device on an eero network, you will need to bridge the Airports. eero's cannot mesh with other routing devices. For more information, we recommend viewing this help center article: https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/208315013-Connecting-AirPort-Extreme-Time-Capsule-or-Airport-Express-to-your-eero-networkI hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call at 1-877-659-2347 or email us at [email protected],Jeff, eero support |
Question: | Hi, i have an integrated modem and router from comcast xfinity. how would eero replace the router |
Answer: | Hi Jeff! Thanks for your question. With eero, you can definitely use Ethernet to connect each eero. This will eliminate any potential interference, and let you get the most of your speeds from each eero throughout your home. eeros also work in a mixed wired/wireless network, so you can even mix-and-match your eero connection types. It should be noted that eero Beacons do not have Ethernet ports, so for a completely wired set up, you will only be able to use eeros.I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call at 1-877-659-2347 or email us at [email protected],Jeff, eero support |
Question: | Is this the same as a netgear wifi extender |
Answer: | Hi Macjune,Thanks for reaching out and for your question about eero.If I understand your question correctly, you are wondering if you can use eero with another router? The answer is yes and also no.If you'd like to use another router in front of your eero, you can do so. You would have two options here—running two networks or running your eero in bridge mode. With the latter, you would lose many of eeros advanced features, and all the networking settings will be handled by the upstream router. You would still get the benefits of eeros mesh.If you are asking if you can start with an eero and then add another router to expand the mesh, this isn't possible. eero's can only work with other eero and eero Beacons.I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call at 1-877-659-2347 or email us at [email protected],Jeff, eero support |
Question: | Do the bacons plug into an electric outlet |
Answer: | Hi Dan!Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in eero. In a 2700 square foot home, you would likely be just fine with an eero and eero Beacon. With that said, it really depends on your home, the materials used, and the overall layout.Getting started with an eero and eero Beacon is a good start, and you can of course always add additional eeros where needed.I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call at 1-877-659-2347 or email us at [email protected],Jeff, eero support |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you wire from one hub to another bypassing the main hub at the modem?reason being seperate garage from home is 160ft from each other |
Answer: | Yes it works with Centurylink ADSL plans (upload is up to 1M). NOT VDSL PLAN (upload speed is 10m) |
Question: | Can an antenna be connected to one of these devices? I am trying to get internet through these in a metal building |
Answer: | It should but note this model was discontinued in 2011 and is no longer supported. You should call your ISP to see if this modem is compatible. |
Question: | Is the 2020 model tri band or still dual band like the 2016 model |
Answer: | Based off the research it did...it would appear that it does work with ATTACHED. |
Question: | I'm setting up verizon internet connection, and my question is, can this google wifi-mesh replace verizon/fios home router g |
Answer: | Sorry, tour answer is NO, the description clearly indicates it’s a Modem/Router which is not what was asked. |
Question: | will it worl with Centurylink |
Answer: | I do not think so. |
Question: | does it works outside US |
Answer: | Yes, I am using 3 at times. You should purchase a model with the same or greater speed as I think they run at the speed of the lowest model. |
Question: | will it work with ATT u-verse |
Answer: | In my case NOT as good as with a quality USB WiFi adapter and a good WiFi network. I get about 110-120Mbps across the kit and 300+Mbps with a Linksys AE6000 adapter. |
Question: | Is this a modem only |
Answer: | You can connect up to 16 powerline adapters in the same network. All connected devices will be visible to each other. |
Question: | Can I plug into 220V socket |
Answer: | I found this answer on their installation manual pdf. We don’t recommend using the PLA6456 with a 2 prong outlet. There will be significant performance hit when going from 3 prongs to 2 in most cases, and in addition 2-prong to 3-prong adapters may cause a fire hazard by not allowing the PLA6456 to sit flush with the wall. |
Question: | I have 2 links now can i add a 3rd one |
Answer: | It will work, tried it at a hotel that did not provide wifi and the internet jack in the wall was too far from where I needed to hook up my laptop. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My family has two appartments next to each other, both separate electrical installations. Would this work if we wanted to split the internet bill |
Answer: | Yes the EX8000 used as a wifi extender you have the option of having a guest network. You can use same SSID name as your main router or use a different SSID altogether. I did have issues with more than one extender on the same network using same SSID name as main router so I had to change one of the extenders to a different SSID. |
Question: | Has anyone connected a ps4 of xbox one to the wifi from the range extender? if so, signal and game play any good |
Answer: | If you mean an AT&T router signal, yes. If you mean cell tower signal, then no. |
Question: | Does it create a new sid or does it exteneded your current sid, so one does not have to switch to differing networks when in range |
Answer: | the input voltage is from 100 to 240 volts |
Question: | I don't understand how some people give this 4-5 stars and others can't get it to work and give it 1 star |
Answer: | there are 4 ports. I use multiple ones as this is the only system I can find that does not change the network name but once a year I also have one break and have to replace it or hard reset it myself. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How reliable and user friendly are the parental controls |
Answer: | Just go into the HP printer’s Setup/Network config and set a manual IP - 192.168.4.60 - and be done. That will save AirPrint and other misery as well. |
Question: | Is there a separate modem I can buy that supports spectrum telephone service? I want this mesh system but need a Modem that supports my phone service |
Answer: | You need to purchase your own modem and register it with Comcast, then you can add these as your WiFi router and return the Comcast Gateway you have now. You will have to tell comcast that you are doing this, then you don't have to pay their rental fee. I have my own modem and router, have for years. It pays for itself to do it this way! |
Question: | Will this sync and interface with tp-link omada systems |
Answer: | I had an older NetGear extender (5 years or so, plugged into the wall, dual band). I just bought this to replace it and like it a lot better. It automatically finds the signals and keeps you going. My NG extender gave me a 2G and a 5G connection separately. So I had to constantly disconnect my WiFi on devices and choose the other when the connection was crappy or lost. No more of that!! My internet is one thing now and that's worth the price of admission. Also, love love the app so that I can actually see all devices using it. And the security updates are great since I'm working from home now and have to use company programs. |
Question: | I just installed this and apple is indicating wpa/wpa2 (tkip) is not considered secure. how can i configure this to wpa2 (aes) or wpa3 security type |
Answer: | The bacons have to have a power source. If it is too hot, the bacons will be too hot and crispy. We found it better to do the bacons in our oven rather than plug them in. Try it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | windows 10 drivers laggy. Do I really need the realtek drivers or is the windows one just as fast |
Answer: | Well i can tell you that this antenna does not need a driver from the manufacturer, Windows 10 provides a universal driver for it. |
Question: | Does this come with link to download drivers? I have mac and can't use mini cd |
Answer: | I had the same problem. They provided a link to download the drivers, which I did. I installed them on my MacBook Pro and attempted to restart as prompted. My trusty Mac refused to restart even in "safe mode". Tried rebooting in recovery mode and again, would not boot up. I ended up reinstalling my entire drive from a back up drive. Total time wasted=5 hours and I sent this back for a refund. Don't bother wasting your money if you have a Mac, it will only cause you grief. |
Question: | im confused is this a device that will allow a non wifi laptop/desktop to have wifi? can i use it simply as a booster for my wifi enabled laptop |
Answer: | To be technical this creates another network adapter for your computer/laptop. It can NOT be used as a booster for range with an existing wireless adapter. It might get better range than your current adapter. But it will not supplement it at all. Completely separate device from any other network adapter (wired or wireless). |
Question: | Success installing drivers on Linux |
Answer: | Hey guys, I'm able to have it working on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. I did follow the dkms solution posted by the other user; the script ran into an error, that's when I noticed the shell script requires a manual edit to edit out the version number for the driver's directory, once that's done the shell script ran just fine. Also, I had this adapter plugged into a USB 2.0 port, and the wifi would not accept the password; once I plug it into a USB 3.0 port (duh, lol) the wifi accepted the password and working just fine. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have att U-verse internet will this device work with their router and system |
Answer: | You can plug it in downstream of your existing router. I believe it will even work if substituted for your existing router as long as you have a modem. You may need to call ATT at time of setup to provision but I doubt it. We were up on it in 5 minutes. |
Question: | The eero6 router alone says that offers up to 900mbps, this three pack with the router and two extenders says up to 500mbps. Can you clarify |
Answer: | From AndroidCentral: “While a single Eero 6 router supports a gigabit connection on its own, if you add in more nodes, you'll be sharing your 5GHz band splitting your 1200Mbps speed. This allows for speeds up to 500Mbps with a little headroom“ |
Question: | do I need a smartphone to download the app or can I download to my computer to get started |
Answer: | There is no web interface. You must use the Eero app on phone or tablet, but it does NOT need an active celluar plan (works fine on my iPad with no cellualar, just WiFi). |
Question: | Is there a wifi performance difference between the router and extender |
Answer: | Yes, seems to be. I get 325mbps with the router and 150 mbps with the extenders. I pay for 300 mbps. Now this is with the extenders going through several walls and downstairs in my basement. I get the same.speeds from both extenders which is nice |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with Windows |
Answer: | I don't know but i got rid of the orbis and went to amplifi hd. The orbis automatically update firmware and were nothing but headaches. The amplifi hds work perfectly. |
Question: | Is this a good option for the Raspberry Pi B+ model |
Answer: | Yes this will work on dsl, however don’t expect good speeds as you are limited by the bandwidth of dsl. As for a modem you will have to ask you isp for a compatible list. |
Question: | What is this for? Why would one need it if their laptop already does wifi |
Answer: | Both systems are fine for a small office. I have the orbi pro and I installed one for our local Moose Organization. They work great. However, the Orbi wifi 6 utilizes WIFI 6 Technology which is 4x faster. I also believe the Orbi Wifi 6 system has a longer range of coverage for 5000 feet of coverage. |
Question: | Does anyone know if this works with ubuntu |
Answer: | We use this for our church and it consists of 3 detached buildings. The main building we use streaming, etc. So far so good. The only problem with such distance is if multiple users sign on may freeze. |
