12 best twc modems
TWC modems, or Time Warner Cable modems, refer to the modems compatible with the internet service provided by Time Warner Cable. Time Warner Cable was a major cable television company in the United States that merged with Charter Communications to become Spectrum in 2016.
These modems are designed to work specifically with the Time Warner Cable internet service. They are crucial components in establishing a connection between a user's device and the internet network provided by Time Warner Cable.
When looking for a TWC modem, it's important to consider:
Compatibility: Ensure that the modem is compatible with the specific internet plan and technology (e.g., cable, DSL) provided by Time Warner Cable.
DOCSIS Standard: The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) standard is important. TWC modems are likely to support a specific version of DOCSIS (e.g., DOCSIS 3.0 or 3.1), which determines the maximum speed the modem can handle.
Channels: Modems have downstream and upstream channels that affect the speed and stability of your connection. Higher channel counts generally provide faster speeds.
Wireless Capability (if applicable): Some modems also function as routers and include wireless capabilities. This can be convenient if you want to set up a Wi-Fi network at home.
Brand and Model: Different manufacturers produce modems with varying features and performance levels.Common modem manufacturers include Arris, Motorola, Netgear, and TP-Link.
Price: TWC modems can range in price depending on their features and capabilities. It's important to find a modem that fits your budget while meeting your needs.
Warranty and Support: Check for warranty information and the availability of customer support in case you encounter any issues with the modem.
Keep in mind that Time Warner Cable has rebranded as Spectrum, so if you are currently a Spectrum customer, you would be looking for a modem compatible with Spectrum's internet service. Also, it's recommended to check with the provider or consult their website for any specific recommendations or requirements regarding modems.

Question: | for time warner |
Answer: | Yes these do work with time Warner. Visit https://www.timewarnercable.com/content/dam/residential/pdfs/support/internet/twc-compatible-modems.pdfFor a complete list of acceptable modem for time Warner. |
Question: | Is this compatible with CenturyLink |
Answer: | Not sure but I use it with Xfinity, which is a larger company than century Link. I would think it meets the qualifications. I like the unit. The only thing I don't like is it has a long security key and to change it, you have to go through Motorola. Once you use it save the security key I do on your device so you don't have to find it but, it is on the back of the device. It is very long though. |
Question: | Does this work with xfinity |
Answer: | It worked with Xfinity for me. This is also listed on Xfinity's website as a compatible model. |
Question: | Does this use 2.4 or 5 GHz |
Answer: | The GHz refers to the WIFI. This model is both a router and a modem or another words ... a 2 in 1 device. By default, this model is set at the 2.4 GHz. But! You can set it to 5.0 GHz if you wish by logging into the modem yourself and simply change it. User questions & answers
Question: | is this compatable with belkin routers |
Answer: | Yes. |
Question: | Doe it work with Century link |
Answer: | This modem is for use with Cable Internet, not DSL. If CenturyLink offers cable internet in your area, it should work. I know this modem works with Suddenlink cable. |
Question: | Will this modem work with Time Warner triple play internet and their telephone service |
Answer: | In my area, currently, if you have Time Warner 'triple play' (TV, Internet, phone) and you have your own supported modem, TW provides the same modem they would for triple play and uses that for phone service only - at no monthly equipment charge - and disables their modems Internet connection/ wifi. So you do need that TW modem in addition to this unit and a cable box for TW triple play, but your only equipment fee if you have your own modem is for the cable box / DVR. I am using this modem and a TW modem with a high bandwidth splitter and good, short coax patch cables (or you can use different cable wall outlets for phone and Internet if you prefer) with TW triple play, and am not charged any monthly rental fee for Internet or phone hardware. Contact your TW representative and confirm their policy for your area (may take more than one call to get a representative who can give you the official answer). |
Question: | Will this modem work with at&t uverse ??? if not which modem will |
Answer: | No it definitely will not. AT&T Uverse uses modems that have an RJ-11 connector in the back (phone cord plug). This is COAX, and is only used for Cable Internet providers. What you need to look for is a 2Wire or other common Uverse modems. Hope this helps. If you call AT&T they can also give you a list of compatible modems for the services offered in your area. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the admin interface have limited setting options? Seems to be lacking many options |
Answer: | This modem should be everything but lacking. You may need to root the modem back to factory default. What features are you looking for? |
Question: | Can this be used or configured to be used for a another provider. Also are these combo units faster or slower than separate modem router configuration |
Answer: | No, this modem cannot be used by another provider. It has no difference, but if you want separate modem router configuration, then you are dealing with more wires to connect which might slow down the internet speed a little bit. |
Question: | Does this modem have phone jack |
Answer: | does not look like it if you mean a land line |
Question: | Thinking about buying this to save monthly tw fees. will the firmware be getting updated automatically via tw |
Answer: | DO NOT BUY THIS SPECIFIC MODEM. Ubee DDW36C was a non-retail model. I bought one of these and TWC told me they could not activate it because it was tied to an old account: you're better off buying a DOCSIS 3.0 modem/router combo such as the NETGEAR N600 (c3700-100NAR).. it works perfectly with TWC and is fast! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between this modem, the SB6183, and the SB |
Answer: | The SB6180 enables channel bonding of up to 8 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels, which allows an operator to offer their customers advanced multimedia services with data rates of well over 300 Mbps in DOCSIS mode and 400 Mbps in EuroDOCSIS mode for downstream and 120 Mbps upstream. The SB6183 has 16 download & 4 upload channels. Download speeds up to 686 Mbps and upload speeds up to 131 Mbps based on your Cable provider service. That is the main difference I could find. I hope it helps. |
Question: | do most users need such a fast cable modem? I have comcast performance....is this over kill or futureproofing with docis 3.1 on horizaen |
Answer: | DOCSIS 3.1 is here, true. And the first set of cable modems using the standard will offer some improvements. As with many technologies, they don't saturate the market overnight. In most cases the availability and maturity of a technology in the marketplace can take years - as much as 3 to 5 years. Even if 15 to 20 percent of the market goes to DOCSIS 3.1 in the first or second year, that says 80 percent hasn't. Future proofing your technology is nice, but a measure of sensibility should be used too. I went to the ARRIS SB6183 knowing that my ISP service is 200 Mbps. It allows a considerable cushion for growth. If my ISP's average speeds jumped to 500 Mbps, and I were to consider another cable modem upgrade, I would focus on a faster cable modem that uses the DOCSIS 3.1 standard or any newer and more powerful standard - allowing me to benefit from the latest standards and speeds. The DOCSIS 3.0 standard may well be nearing its End-of-Life in 2 to 3 years. Therefore, I would see no value going to a 1.4 Gbps DOCSIS 3.0 modem. |
Question: | Does ARRIS/Motorola support firmware upgrades for the 6183 via downloads to the consumer's computer |
Answer: | The Cable Operators (MSOs) have complete control of what cable modem/gateway hardware they will allow installed and the firmware it uses, on their cable plant. This means anything directly connected to the cable plant (COAX) in your house. They do this to ensure that nothing happens to anyone upstream from your connections. Cable Operators follow the DOCSIS Specifications that control this methodology of firmware upgrades as well as providing security for the firmware upgrades. Cable Operators also run both the products and firmware through their own test cycles to approve any manufacturers' modems, wireless gateways, and the associated firmware updates for deployment. This is not an ARRIS only implementation, but the required implementation of any cable device manufacturer. After an MSO has tested and approved a new version of firmware for a cable device, they will then "push" that new firmware out to the devices. So upgrades to the modem firmware will be made automatically but you cannot download them to your computer and perform the upgrade yourself. |
Question: | I purchased this item almost 8 weeks ago 8 August 2014 will i receive this item in my lifetime or will i need to leave this item in my will for my kid |
Answer: | Purchased SB6183 a week ago, My invoice says estimated shipping between Oct 1 to 10th. What was your estimate date? If i don't see any update by Oct5th i'm going to cancel my order and stick with SB6141. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this model different than the arris surfboard sb |
Answer: | The sb6121 only has speeds of 172 Mbps download and up to 131 Mbps upload. This model has up to 343 Mbps download and 131 Mbps upload. |
Question: | Going with the cable modem option what’s the best router to pair this with for spectrum |
Answer: | It depends on your needs. Needs are based on the number of devices connected and the size of area you are trying to cover. I would highly recommend a mesh network unless your home is 1200sqft or smaller. A centrally located router could cover that. The biggest problem is getting the 5ghz frequency to reach throughout the home. The 5ghz gives you speeds over 30mbps on wireless devices. 5ghz will reach roughly 40ft in all directions from your access point (ap). A mesh system gives you multiple ap and thus more area covered by the 5ghz. |
Question: | How many devices can connect at once? Is that that the 8x refers to |
Answer: | The 8x doesn't refer to the number of devices you can connect to it. You only want to connect one device and that's your WiFi router. You wireless router determines how many devices can be connect based on the available number of ip addresses on the wireless device. The 8x refers to the speed of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS). Its informing you on the speed of DOCSIS 2.0 vs the newer DOCSIS 3.0. Ultimately your speed will be determined by how much you want to pay your internet provider. And you can determine how many devices you want to connect by the router you choose. |
Question: | Do I also have to buy a router for the modem? And to make sure it obviously speeds up internet connection right |
Answer: | If you only need to have one computer hooked up to the internet you do not need a router. If you want to hook up more than one computer or if you want a wireless network, you will need to buy the appropriate router. My internet speed went from 20mb to 100mb(the speed I pay extra for). TWC has also stopped charging me $8.00 a month for the use of their inadequate equipment. |

User questions & answers
Question: | When are where will this be available |
Answer: | It is now available on Amazon. |
Question: | I’m stuck between the this and the Netgear cm |
Answer: | Here are my impressions. I recently purchased the Motorola and it is performing as expected although set up with Xfinity was a bit frustrating. I have used Netgear equipment in the past and been happy with it. I believe the CM1200 is a little bit older technology than the MB8611 and more expensive. But either of these modems should serve you well. |
Question: | Does this include Xfinity voip service |
Answer: | No, but if you want that, just add a VoIP box (about $40) and a service (about $20/mo.). |
Question: | Is it worth it to get this over the MB8600 if my router doesn’t have 2.5gbe |
Answer: | Yes |

Question: | I want to buy this latest model mg7700 asap, when is gonna available |
Answer: | Not sure about the answer to your question. The MG7700 is very popular at the moment and all you can do is keep monitoring availability. |
Question: | What is the range of this modem? I'm looking for a strong signal throughout a 4,000 sq ft home |
Answer: | Model MG7700 should provide coverage to a large house. Unfortunately, because of so many variables involved, there isn't a way to measure the range (or speed) experience a user will have. Factors, including positioning of the Gateway, building materials, obstruction or even your neighbors WiFi usage, play a role in what will both range and speed. That said, model MG7700 is equipped with a sophisticated built in Dual Band AC 1900 WiFi router. Support for concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with AnyBeam beamforming at those bands, focuses the signal on wireless clients to allow further improvements to wireless performance, including range. Model MG7700's built in WiFi router will increase your chances for a better WiFi experience over other Gateways on the market. |
Question: | Do you have to pay for extended phone tech support in the event it stops working |
Answer: | Motorola has a pretty decent 2 year warranty, with good phone support even through this Novel Corona-virus causing many companies to lessen customer support. This is a solid modem that saves me $185 every year with Comcast. It's interesting as I had Comcast service 12 years ago and back then one could own their own modem to save you $15, but they would charge you the same $15 for the access card a month. I went back to Comcast as Frontier is at deaths door. These days Comcast doesn't charge for the access card as the FCC put the kibosh on cable companies being in the cable rental business. At the end of the day, this Motorola's paid for itself twice over and still counting. |
Question: | Are you able to install firmware updates? When I owned a combo modem+router, Cox locked out firmware updates because it was a cable modem |
Answer: | No, you can't personally update the firmware, apparently, the cable company gets it from Motorola, and updates it for you. I guess for compatibility or maybe some other reason. |
