If it is out of water, it means the detective sensor always detect the air but not the water, then it always finds the temperature still not reach what you want, then it keeps heating.

Answer:	If the Chromebook has a rectangular slot that the lock will fit into, yes. If not, the lock comes with a sel adhesive metal plate that you can attach to computer. I had to use it with my Surface. It seems adequate.
