I am suspecting you purchased a Powersupply for a Precision 5520 that uses a completely different sized plug than goes with the Inspiron 5520. Dell seems to reuse model numbers on different laptop brands. A dell laptop branded with precision, inspiron, latitude, and XPS are all different brands and you have to search for the right brand name as well as model number.
