There is no wiggle room and it is a tight fit, but it does fit (and the zipper won't burst). The retina allows for a magazine or a note pad to be slid in along with the retina laptop so there is some extra space. Hope this helps- it is a very well made sleeve and the zippers are sturdy, would definitely buy again.
