Answer:	It can hold 2-3 textbooks and a couple of notebooks fine.

Answer:	I don't see why not... however depending on how tall/big is the child the bag may be too big. And because it fits a lot of things inside, it may turn super heavy for a 9 year old to carry.... just have this in mind.
