User questions & answers

Question: Can I remove the flash drive from this adapter and use it in m. 2 slot? Thanks for your time
Answer: Yes you can but you'll get little to no preformance boost by doing so so I'd recommend buying the stand alone m.2 slot if you're going to do that.
Question: will this work with the asus x99 deluxe II motherboard
Answer: Yes. This does not require a u.2 slot to function. So long as you have a free PCI slot and the m.2 adaptor, you will be able to use this on an X99 or any modern motherboard.
Question: would it be compatible with a 2015 macbook pro
Answer: The macbook does use a version of M.2 so this will physically fit in the macbook. With that said though, apple uses a different pinout on the card and it would not work with the macbook. You will need to purchase an M.2 made for a macbook. I have the 2015 Macbook Pro and looked into this same thing.
Question: Does this share bandwidth with other pcie slots as an m.2 drive
Answer: Are you talking about the AIC (Add-in card) option for this, plugged in to a PCIe slot? The bare drive IS M.2 format, but it uses the PCIe 3.0 x4 protocol instead of using SATA. Either way, yes it will use PCI lanes. Whether you see a decrease in your bandwidth will depend on your CPU (28 or 40 lanes, assuming you are using an Intel CPU) and on your motherboard. My mobo allows both the M.2 slot and the U.2 slot to be in use at the same time. Check your mfg. specs. GENERALLY, if your mobo has a PCIe M.2 slot, you should be able to run a single video card and this drive with no conflicts. If you plan to run 2-way SLI or another PCIe peripheral, you should definitely check your mfg. specs.
