11 best western digital wireless n routers
Western Digital, often known as WD, is a prominent manufacturer of data storage devices, including internal hard drives and, in the past, networking equipment like routers. However, Western Digital's primary focus has been on data storage products, and we don't have specific information on any recent models of Western Digital wireless routers.
In the past, Western Digital has produced routers with wireless N (802.11n) technology. Here are some general features that might be associated with Western Digital wireless N routers:
Wireless N Technology: These routers would support the 802.11n wireless standard, providing improved speed and range compared to previous wireless standards.
Multiple Antennas: Wireless N routers often come with multiple antennas to enhance signal strength and stability.
Security Features: Routers typically include security features such as WPA/WPA2 encryption to secure wireless connections.
Port Configurations: Western Digital routers would likely have a variety of ports, including Ethernet ports for wired connections and USB ports for connecting external storage devices or printers.
User-Friendly Interface: The routers would have a user-friendly web interface for configuration and management.
Quality of Service (QoS): QoS features may be present to prioritize certain types of internet traffic for a better user experience.
Firmware Updates: Like any networking equipment, firmware updates might be provided by Western Digital to enhance performance and address security vulnerabilities.
it's recommended to check Western Digital's official website or contact their customer support directly.

Question: | Is it possible to have two of these on the same network, one connected to the modem, the other connected through a wireless bridge or range extender |
Answer: | Yes, I have this on my network. The one that is connected to the modem is your primary router, the other will be an extender. In the manual that comes with it, it explains it. Also, you can use N750, N600 also as extenders. Setup the other router an Extender Mode. Go to this link for the manual, it will explain it. http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705072.pdf |
Question: | Looking for a router to run a Minecraft server off of. Anyone tried using this one |
Answer: | I did have this router running. I had to reboot it a couple of times in the beginning but after awhile it ran without much problems. I only used the lower 2.4 gig band. The only reason I stopped using it was when I setup my new wireless HP printer which somehow changed my router's password and I couldn't access it thru my network. Never did figure out what happened but I am keeping it as backup and will reset back to factory settings and restart the setup if and when I need it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the USB ports USB 3.0 or |
Answer: | I can't say with any certainty that the ports are all 2.0 or 3.0 or one of each. I have only one peripheral that is a USB 3.0 and it doesn't work with the router because the router will not recognize it as a back up disk. I can tell you that one port is black on the inside and the other is blue if that helps. My understanding is that blue represents USB 3.0. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Other reviews debated the same question. |
Question: | Can I expect this router to have a range of at least 200 to 300 feet? My office is about 200 feet from the location where I need WiFi capability |
Answer: | I think the effective range is about 150 feet in a residential environment. |
Question: | Is this compatible with hard drives that use the USB port for power, such as the My Passport Ultra or Slim |
Answer: | Yes. That it what I have in it right now it's 1 TB that is USB powered and it's pluged in and works perfectly. |
Question: | Does the wd my net n900 have a modem installed |
Answer: | I tried to mix the modem with the router and everything just slowed down. After some research I went back to the two items. I have a fast modem that doesn't need upgrading, but the router is a dual channel and the old one would only care part of the speed that I carry so trying this one and see if the 300Mps that I pay for is worth it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the wd my net ac bridge have network address translation (nat) or mac address translation (mat) and if so can that function be turned off |
Answer: | There is a version of this product that is both a bridge and range extender called the "WD My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender". Although, the range extender does not have AC and has only one Ethernet port, where the "WD My Net AC Bridge" has four Ethernet ports and has AC wireless. |
Question: | Would this create a firewall protected network that connects wirelessly to another unsecured network like in a hotel. Can a pc use it |
Answer: | It would work but not cover the length of bed, this size is for toddler size beds |
Question: | Does this bridge support beamforming? (I know that the latest firmware for Linksys' competing product WUMC710 does |
Answer: | yes ... it works perfectly for what it is intended |
Question: | Does this device works as a repeater or a wireless extender? or this is just a wireless receiver but it doesn't emit wireless signal? i'm trying to fi |

User questions & answers
Question: | how easy is it to set this up in my HOME |
Answer: | Easy. Plug it in to power and an Ethernet connection. Download the WD my cloud app on your PC and log in to administer the device. That’s about it. |
Question: | Can each family members have their own folder with a password |
Answer: | Hi - I bought the 4TB my Cloud Home device. I am still trying all the features. It is possible to let your family members set-up their own user ID, password and dedicated folders which only your family member will have access to etc. I found it very annoying that as administrator of the home cloud, you WILL NOT have any control o what they are storing (or) access to any of those files. May be the WD designed the product that way that individuals have complete data security to their own areas. I am still learning. Good Luck |
Question: | Can you install BitTorrent/transmission client on it |
Answer: | From what I can see, this is pretty locked out but it does come with a few services preinstalled (Plex, IFTTT etc.) |
Question: | Can this be connected to a local network without an internet gateway? Does this require an internet connection to function locally |
Answer: | You could but it would be of limited value. It is not designed for local storage. It wants to be a Cloud device. Go read this review and the mnaufacturer’s response: https://www.amazon.com/review/R438M3H6BK69U/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B076CTK55W |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I plug this in as an external hdd enclosure with usb 3.0 capabilites and have it function on an xbox one |
Answer: | Yes, the only requirement on the Xbox One side is that the connection be USB 3.0 and the drive be a minimum of 500 Gb. Other than that purchase a reliable enclosure kit that also supplies power and uses the SATA connection already on the HDD. |
Question: | On the picture it shows the hard drive's insides, do I need a special enclosure besides me computer case for this |
Answer: | If your are installing in a Windows PC, that is a new-ish computer (probably any that came with vista and many that came with XP) it will support Serial ATA hard drives, open abbreviated to SATA drives. You should look up the specs on your computer to insure compatibility. This hard drive is a SATA drive so it will install and replace your other computer. I purchased this drive, and also bought an external case. This would allow this internal hard drive to work as an external drive. It plugs into an external power supply and connects to the computer with a USB cable. The external case I purchased here on amazon is a: Sabrent USB 3.0 To 3.5-Inch Sata Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure Black Case.I was installing Windows 7 on my PC. I stalled the WD 1 TB drive in the PC, installed the Windows 7 software, then installed my older smaller drive in the external case. |
Question: | Is this the retail version (boxed) or is it an OEM bulk drive |
Answer: | What do you think you get for $86/4TB? It's OEM without a warranty. If you want that spend $20 more for 2 years with the retail version. For my use I don't need a warranty anyway, odds are it will fail decades from now since I use these as storage mostly sitting unpowered on a shelf 95% of the time (with LTO backups just in case I'm unlucky). The 4 in my PC are the same drives in an 8TB raid1, and they have been spinning 24-7 for 3 years now with no HDD replacement needed. |
Question: | Which 1 TB hard disk you recomend between the Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX or the Seagate Barracuda ST |
Answer: | I have bought and used WD and Seagate hard drives. I have never had an internal WD hard drive fail on me yet, but I have had one of their older Elements external hard drives fail on me. As for Seagate, I purchased an ST2000DM001 (which is the 2tb version) several months ago that has now failed. I lost everything and got a clicking sound, as if it were stuck. Only lasted 5 months. In comparison I have had my 1st WD blue WD10EZEX for more than two years now and I have not had a failure at all. It's extremely reliable, so much so I decided to replace the Seagate one with a another one of the WD10EZEX's. I have 4 hard drives in my computer 1 SSD (For operating system), 2 WD Blues 1tb and an older Seagate one from an older computer (a dell dimension) with about 250gigs of capacity. I'm planning on getting another blue or black 1 tb to replace it later. I definitely would recommend the blues. It's not that expensive, it's reliable and comes with a decent warranty. I would not recommend Seagate. Just can't trust it. No matter what hard drives should last past the warranty, not even a year and it fails? What kind of QC are they having at Seagate? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I boot from this drive on a mac? In other words, is it bootable |
Answer: | Mounting the drive is easy on a Mac, unless it is NTFS or another format. Booting is not (realistically) possible. It's a backup drive and would be terrible and break fast anyway. Trust me, usb bootable drives are the wrong way to go. Get a thunderbolt 3 drive to boot from, those work significantly better. |
Question: | What cable will I need to get to connect this to a usb3 port |
Answer: | It comes with cable for either 2 or 3 |
Question: | is this drive's usb interface support usb |
Answer: | USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 is backward compatible with USB 2.0. USB 2.0 supports a lower power output, which may be insufficient for this drive, so if WD says a 3.0 port is required...it likely is. |
Question: | How is it different from other WD drives sold for |
Answer: | The 99 dollar models transfer on my computer at around 90 MB sec, bought this USB-c model without realizing it was different, only transfers at 35 MB sec on same computer, considerably slower for more money, stay away. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any subscription fee, or just 1 time purchase? Is data stored on WD servers somewhere or is the cloud just the physical hard drive at home |
Answer: | There may not be any charges now, but to use this drive (and the other WD drives like this) you HAVE to create an account on a WD server before you can set this device up. This server was down for most of the week (3/24-29). Sending back to Amazon. |
Question: | Does it require a static public IP address? Or can I use domain name using a product like NO-IP.org |
Answer: | WD 4TB My Cloud Mirror (Dual-drive) --> You absolutely CAN set it up to use a dynamic DNS service. The setting can easily be found on the Dashboard of the device's web GUI -- it is located in "Settings | Network Services | Dynamic DNS"; the two options are "www.DynDNS.org" and "no-ip.DDNS" .4TB WD My Cloud NAS (single drive) --> You cannot set dynamic DNS on the NAS, but you can set it up through your router (unless you're using double-NAT...i.e. Comcast -> Router1 -> Router2 -> NAS). If you're using a double-NAT network, you'll need to install a client-based service on an always-on computer like "DUC" provided by no-ip.ddns.Generally, the answer is usually "yes" if you have the knowledge... |
Question: | I'd like to set this up to set aside a certain amount of space for time machine backups for two macs and have the rest for network storage. How |
Answer: | There is a convenient slider under the My Cloud settings that you can adjust to limit the space allocated for Time Machine backups. No need to partition the drive. It is recommended that you 1st leave the slider to maximum usage for your first backups (use an ethernet cable at first for faster transfer), then adjust the slider down to limit how much space Time Machine will occupy. The remaining space can be used for storage/media server. If you need more space, you can always add a 2nd, 3rd, etc. hard drive to the WD My Cloud through its USB 3.0 port. |
Question: | Can i use the built-in USB port to access the files writeen in the HD Faster, or the access is only throught network connection |
Answer: | The previous answers are wrong. The USB port is for adding additional hard drives only. You can only access the files through the Ethernet connection. |
