Answer:	This unit has USB and Thunderbolt. There are adapters available to use the older USB devices with USB C.

Answer:	You may need a specific Thunderbolt driver for Ubuntu to access this drive. I would go the Ubuntu website to see if this exists. Normally, I access Ubuntu from a virtual machine so I avoid this kind of problem.

Answer:	The drive itself is only 5,400 RPM. However, if your only option is Thunderbolt or USB 2.0 (2011 iMac for instance) then this drive will still offer higher performance over a 7,200 RPM external USB 2.0 hard drive. USB 2.0 is limited to about 60MB/s (480Mbit/s), and this drive achieves around 105MB/s - 109MB/s according to http://reviews.cnet.com/external-hard-drives/buffalo-ministation-thunderbolt-1tb/4505-3190_7-35338125.html. Having said that, I have two of these. I have one on a 2013 iMac (i7 & 16GB Ram) and another on a 2011 iMac (i7 & 16GB Ram). I use them as external drives for my Windows 8 virtual machines. They are very speedy, and I haven't had any performance issues as of yet. You're correct however, you will never see 10,000GBit/s as they imply.

Answer:	The naming of USB versions is very confusing. USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 all refer to the same thing (5Gbps speed). Then there's USB 3.1 Gen 2 and USB 3.2 Gen 2, they both refer to 10Gbps. And then these marketing geniuses came up with (new, improved!) USB 3.2 Gen 2 x 2, which is 20 Gbps. It's all backward and forward compatible, devices negotiate the best speed available.

Answer:	This unit is very compact. It is made of a thin plastic shell which is somewhat flexible. I thought it would do well traveling in my wallet between rigid credit cards. It did for a while but eventually all of the shell was cracked and crushed but amazingly, still functions perfectly but us no longer my constant companion.

Answer:	You should be able to unpower it using the Hold slide switch on the side of the unit. The display will blink "Hold" a couple of times, and then shut off. The problem is that the switches on these things are very unreliable. I have five of them lying around that don't work anymore. I'm going to try a voice recorder app on the smartphone.
Question:	when you play back, does it show a running time index, so you can see exactly when each word was recorded
Answer:	Yes. It displays elapsed time, starting with seconds and progressing from there clearly indicating Hrs-Min-Sec detail. It has three (3) Folders, giving you the option to segregate memos into Categories. It picks up voices quite well for me when placed on a 4' x 12' conference table where I sometimes record a portion of a meeting. It will run for hours before a Folder is filled.
