12 best psu tester
A PSU (Power Supply Unit) tester is a device used to diagnose and test the functionality of a computer's power supply unit. It is a valuable tool for both professional technicians and DIY computer enthusiasts to ensure that the power supply is working correctly and providing the necessary power to all internal components of a computer.
Here are some key points about PSU testers:
Functionality Testing: The primary purpose of a PSU tester is to check if the power supply unit is functioning properly. It does this by providing a load to the PSU and checking the output voltages to ensure they meet the required specifications.
Voltage Readings: PSU testers typically display voltage readings for various rails, including +3.3V, +5V, +12V, and sometimes -12V and -5V. These readings help determine if the power supply is delivering the correct voltage levels to the computer's components.
LED Indicators: Many PSU testers come with LED indicators that light up in different colors to indicate the status of each voltage rail. Green lights usually indicate that the voltage is within the acceptable range, while red lights can indicate a problem.
Connectivity: PSU testers are equipped with connectors that match the power supply's output connectors, making it easy to connect and test the PSU without needing to plug it into a motherboard or other components.
Diagnostic Tool: When a computer is experiencing power-related issues, a PSU tester can help identify whether the PSU is the culprit. If the voltage readings are significantly out of spec or the LEDs show errors, it may be time to replace the power supply.
Safety: PSU testers are designed to be safe to use and minimize the risk of electrical damage. They provide a controlled load to the power supply, reducing the chance of damaging other components during testing.
Compatibility: Ensure that the PSU tester you choose is compatible with the type of power supply you have (e.g., ATX, EPS, or other form factors) and can handle the wattage of your PSU.
Portability: Some PSU testers are compact and portable, making them convenient for technicians who need to test power supplies on-site or while troubleshooting multiple systems.
In summary, a PSU tester is a handy tool for quickly and safely checking the health of a computer's power supply unit. It helps diagnose power-related issues and ensures that the PSU is providing the correct voltages to keep the internal components of the computer functioning properly.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any volume control or alarm control over the sound? Can the alarm be turned off if you do not want an audible alarm |
Answer: | Most desktop type |
Question: | Is there any advantage with this over the basic PSU testers |
Answer: | I believe that means that is bad (or you don't have it puged in correctly). Everything should give you a solid number with little values changing. As long as you don't get a "DuDu Ring" or "DuDu Long Buzzer" everything is good. If you do a internet search, there are a couple of videos out there using this model tester. |
Question: | Can you leave this tester connected to a PSU for long periods of time? Most of the cheaper testers advise against this, I'm guessing because they may over heat |
Answer: | I bought this for my hubby and he tells me the green cardboard is all you get...I didn't see any other info online either, sorry. My hubby tested a power supply that he knew as good to see how it reacts/reports. Hope that helps, Jeanne |
Question: | Does this tester put a load on the PSU or does it solely display voltages |
Answer: | No. This tests the Power Supply Unit itself; it does not test any other computer component. To use this tester the power supply is disconnected from the computer components (Mother board, Hard drive, video card, floppy drive, DVD burner, etc.) and the PSU cables connected to the tester instead. When the PSU is switched on, the tester will read the current being supplied by the PSU to the various power cables (24 pin, P4, P6, P8). As you may know, improper current can wreak havoc with electronic systems. For example: This tester told me that the current being supplied by a PSU to one of its power cables was borderline minimum and fluctuating. A close examination of the PSU revealed that a couple of capacitors were swelling and barely beginning to split and leak. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to make sure if it is normal that this power supply make a clicking noise like a relay on power on and off |
Answer: | Mine is very quiet, no clicking noise. I would exchange it. |
Question: | Is this rated in continuous wattage or peak wattage, or both |
Answer: | It’s rated in under Typical loads. Power supplies don’t output at the peak power output all the time (assuming that’s what you are asking) It outputs what you connect to it. If your components combined wattage is 450W then the power supply outputs @ 450W If the components equal over 750W this PSU is only guaranteed 750W output. Might output more but you will burn out the PSU and maybe a couple parts in your computer too. I have looked up and down for where you get the 80+ efficiency but typical load I would guess is 50-60% load. (375W-450W |
Question: | Would 750 watts be enough to run a 2070 super and a i7 8700k |
Answer: | This graphics card (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2070-super/#) recommends 650 watts based on an i7 3.2 GHz processor. Your system configuration may require more power if you have additional peripheral cards installed (sound card, tv tuner card, RAID, Multiple GPUs, etc.) There are power calculators freely available on the web to help predict how much power your configuration will need. |
Question: | Would this work with the new 3070 cards? They require a 12 pin connection. Could I do two of the 6pin connectors without using their 2 pins |
Answer: | The connector on mine can split like you described. I would just make sure that the PSU is powerful enough, the newer cards are pretty power hungry. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have an asus z-390 A mobo. Will this psu hook into it |
Answer: | The paper towel holder is magnetic. If your wall is magnetic, then it’ll stick. It clings like nobody’s business to our refrigerator!!! |
Question: | How well does this run a pc running two gtx 1080 video cards |
Answer: | You can hang this on a diaaginal if you wanted to. Hang it whatever direction you want because the magnets are super magnets. The closer you move the two arms toward each other the tighter the hold becomes on the paper towel. I can tear in any direction and from a big angle which would normally make another holder pop the roll off. It even can do the heavy weight shop towels that don't tear off easy. I bought in in black because I have a lot of black accents but I wish I had gotten white, so I will probably give this to my hubby for the garage and get the white for me. I love it. I have a very obsessive eye and cannot stand anything off level so the only problem I have is putting on a new roll and getting both sides perfectly level because the magnets do not slide. Once the roll is on, you cannot see the arms so it should not be a problem but I'm obsessive and I have to have them perfect... AUGH. I have it on the side of my frig. I do believe that the metal surface will play a HUGE roll in this working or not. If the magnets don't grab well because of the surface of the metal it's not going to grab like it does on an appliance side like my frig. I buy only select a size and I get the off brand Sparkle which like to pull off my other "snap" holder. |
Question: | Can the 4+4 and 8 pin cpu connectors both be hooked up or is there only a single modular slot on the psu for this cable type |
Answer: | No. It’s not necessary to remove an end. Simply slide one end up enough to remove the core and put a new roll on. |
Question: | Will this fit the nzxt 400 case |
Answer: | I think, China. Not sure. I’ll check when I go to work. Kind of surprised at how expensive this type of item has become. |
