12 best gaming power supplies
Gaming power supplies, also known as gaming PSUs (Power Supply Units), are essential components of gaming PCs that provide a stable and efficient supply of electrical power to all internal components. They are designed to meet the specific power demands of gaming systems and offer features that enhance performance, reliability, and safety. Here's what you need to know about gaming power supplies:
Wattage and Power Efficiency: Gaming power supplies are available in various wattage ratings, typically ranging from 500W to 1000W or more. The wattage you need depends on the power requirements of your gaming components, including the CPU, GPU, and other peripherals. Higher wattage power supplies are suitable for systems with high-end graphics cards and multiple components.
80 PLUS Certification: Many gaming power supplies come with 80 PLUS certification, which indicates their energy efficiency. Higher-rated certifications like 80 PLUS Gold or Platinum mean that the PSU is more efficient and wastes less power as heat.
Modularity: Gaming PSUs often feature modular or semi-modular designs. Modular power supplies allow you to connect only the necessary cables, reducing cable clutter inside the case and improving airflow. Semi-modular PSUs have essential cables permanently attached and modular ones for flexibility.
Connectors: Gaming power supplies come with a variety of connectors to support different components, including motherboard connectors (ATX, EPS), PCIe connectors for graphics cards, SATA and Molex connectors for drives and peripherals, and sometimes specialized connectors for lighting or cooling solutions.
Overcurrent Protection (OCP): OCP is a safety feature that protects your components from excessive current. It automatically shuts off power to a specific rail if it detects an overload, preventing damage to your PC.
Overvoltage Protection (OVP): OVP safeguards your components by shutting down the power supply if it detects voltage levels above the safe range.
Short Circuit Protection (SCP): SCP prevents damage caused by short circuits by shutting off power in the event of a short circuit.
Active Power Factor Correction (PFC): Active PFC helps maintain stable and efficient power delivery, reducing energy waste and preventing voltage fluctuations.
Silent Operation: Some gaming power supplies are designed for quiet operation, featuring large, low-noise fans and optimized fan curves to minimize noise during gaming sessions.
Multi-GPU Support: Gaming PSUs with higher wattage ratings often support multiple graphics cards (SLI or CrossFire), making them suitable for gaming setups with dual GPUs.
Brand Reliability: Trusted PSU manufacturers like Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, Thermaltake, and Be Quiet! are known for producing reliable gaming power supplies. Choosing a reputable brand can help ensure the quality and longevity of your PSU.
Warranty: Many gaming power supplies come with warranties ranging from 3 to 10 years or more.A longer warranty period can provide peace of mind and indicate the manufacturer's confidence in the product's durability.
When selecting a gaming power supply, it's crucial to calculate your system's power requirements based on the components you plan to use. Overloading or underloading a power supply can lead to stability issues or even damage to your components. Additionally, consider factors like modularity, efficiency, and safety features to ensure a reliable and efficient power source for your gaming PC.

Question: | Will the 750w be able to handle a 1080 ti and a amd ryzen |
Answer: | For your information, the Apevia Prestige Gaming PSU is not modular. |
Question: | can I do gtx 960 sli with this power supply |
Answer: | It should be a 20 pin or 20+2 for mobo power connector. 4 pin is power for CPU and other components. Will it fit your mobo? Well im sure you know it doesnt go on the mobo, right? If your mobo is an ATX, then the case should use an ATX power supply. The ATX form factor is a consistent set of dimensions that have nothing to do with brand. As long as your case is designed for ATX, then an ATX power supply like this and any other brand of psu labeled as "ATX" will fit. |
Question: | does it have enough pin for a 5700xt it takes both 6 and 8 pin togheter to power it |
Answer: | I have already installed the PSU and did not note the UL number. But l did check Andyson's as a supplier to the US. Apevia only uses Andyson according to the official supplier documents. And Andyson only manufactures for two brands to the US. Apevia and EVGA. I don't feel like taking my computer apart, but maybe one weekend I'll try to see if there is a UL number. For all intents - the specs exactly match Andyson and so does Apevia's official supplier lists. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to make sure if it is normal that this power supply make a clicking noise like a relay on power on and off |
Answer: | Mine is very quiet, no clicking noise. I would exchange it. |
Question: | Is this rated in continuous wattage or peak wattage, or both |
Answer: | It’s rated in under Typical loads. Power supplies don’t output at the peak power output all the time (assuming that’s what you are asking) It outputs what you connect to it. If your components combined wattage is 450W then the power supply outputs @ 450W If the components equal over 750W this PSU is only guaranteed 750W output. Might output more but you will burn out the PSU and maybe a couple parts in your computer too. I have looked up and down for where you get the 80+ efficiency but typical load I would guess is 50-60% load. (375W-450W |
Question: | Would 750 watts be enough to run a 2070 super and a i7 8700k |
Answer: | This graphics card (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2070-super/#) recommends 650 watts based on an i7 3.2 GHz processor. Your system configuration may require more power if you have additional peripheral cards installed (sound card, tv tuner card, RAID, Multiple GPUs, etc.) There are power calculators freely available on the web to help predict how much power your configuration will need. |
Question: | Would this work with the new 3070 cards? They require a 12 pin connection. Could I do two of the 6pin connectors without using their 2 pins |
Answer: | The connector on mine can split like you described. I would just make sure that the PSU is powerful enough, the newer cards are pretty power hungry. |
- 750W Gaming Power Supply: 80 Plus Gold certified, Up to 92% efficiency, stable voltage output, consistent power delivery and less power consumption.
- Fully Modular Power Supply: Fully Modular with a complete set of cables, make it possible for any creation.(The 20+4 Pin ATX cable is detachable to meet all demand)

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you run two graphics cards on this psu |
Answer: | Really depends on what GPUs you're going to use, but yes in most cases. The other thing you will need to account for is the fact that this PSU doesnt have a lot of PCIe cables. |
Question: | Am I able to use cable mods on this power supply |
Answer: | It's a semi modular PSU so yes and no. There are 2 8 pin and 2 6 pin connections that you could use cablemod cables in. |
Question: | Will this fit in an nzxt h510 elite |
Answer: | It is most likely to fit. The only issue you may have is in matching up the screw holes in the back. They didn't for me, so I used the screen holes along the edge, which were close enough to the edge for me to get a tight fit. Conversely, if that hadn't worked, I was going to get some washers to increase the width, so it would overlap to the edge of the tower. |
Question: | Will this power supply work with the msi mpg-x570-gaming-pro-carbon-wifi motherboard |
Answer: | Short answer: Sure Long answer: Your motherboard requires the following: 4-pin ATX12V connector, 24-pin main power connector, 8-pin ATX12V connector it comes with : 20+4 connector = covers the 24 pin connector (that's your main power) (1) 4+4 connector (blue) = covers the 8 pin connector (1) 4+4 connector (blue) = you can only use half of the connector for your 4 pin (it's easy to separate them) there are plenty of SATA cables and also MOLEX but hopefully you are not running anything on that, it's just archaic but they are there you won't regret your purchase |

User questions & answers
Question: | DEAD-ON-ARRIVAL: is there an indicator besides the I/O switch to determine if PSU is ON or OFF? My old PSU had an LED that lit up if PSU was working |
Answer: | 1=on and 0=off on the power supplies master switch sure jumping the green (on/off control wire) to black (ground) will turn on the power supply. |
Question: | does this have the 8 pin 12v cable |
Answer: | To clear things up, I have the 600 watt version of this. And yes it does have a 8 pin 12v cable |
Question: | How long are the primary cables? Need to reach around a large video card in a big case |
Answer: | Joe, it's been a few months since I assembled my system but, as I recall, the cable lengths were all very generous. I don't think this should be a problem for you with this PSU. A big plus is all the variety of cables and connectors that are included with this unit. Very versatile package that was highly recommended to me by a serious "techie" at Tiger Direct. I took his advice but made my purchase here. |
Question: | Is this modular? At the top it reads semi-modular and below it reads modular,, which is it and what is the difference |
Answer: | It is semi modular. Semi modular means that that necessary plugs are not removable, but the optional ones for hdds, psu, etc come removable. |

Large-Diameter, Thermally Controlled Fan
Once you’ve installed a PSU, you shouldn’t have to think about it. Employing a thermally controlled fan makes the CX Series virtually silent at idle, and the large diameter reduces noise even when you’re pushing your system hard.

User questions & answers
Question: | Out of the box what is the actual size of the power supply . can i use this in a small micro atx case . i have a deepcool matrexx 30 micro atx |
Answer: | the 430 watt ersion it only comes with (1) PCIE 6+2 connector... many graphic cards need 2 of them plugged in.. so that kinda stinks.. not sure about the 500 watt version of the power supply.. |
Question: | Will this fit a Dell Precision T1700 mini-tower case (not the micro case |
Answer: | Have an older Dell XPS 420 and when i had the older power supply{375W} I had to use an adapter to increase my 6 prong plug to an 8 because I installed a EVGA GeForce GTX 960. Well This Power supply has two plugs for either 6 or 8 as both plugs will power your video card. Good luck. |
Question: | my X570 board has an additional 4 pin power besides the 8 pin connector. Does this psu have more than 1 4 pin connector |
Answer: | Yes, If your Goldfish has a 6 pin PCI molex female receptacle near it's urinary duct (https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Express-Power-Adapter-Cable/dp/B001TK3TJY) |
Question: | What are the dimensions of the power supply box (not the package |
Answer: | This is a valid question. People seem to get confused as to why there is a power switch on the computer (which they always use) and another on the power supply itself (which they never use). The power switch directly on the power supply itself provides the ability to cut electrical output to all physically attached components. This is useful, for example, if the COMPUTER power switch (typically on the front of the computer) has been damaged or is otherwise not functioning. It is a directly connected mechanical switch. It is also used during the replacement and building of computers. DO NOT simply turn off the computer and then attempt to replace the power supply. The proper way to do this is:1. Use switch on the current power supply itself and put it in the "off" position.2. Unplug the current power supply from the wall socket.3. Press the power switch on the front of the computer twice (as a safety precaution).4. Take note of all electrical connections, locations, and plug types.5. Remove the current power supply from all electrical connections and physically remove from computer.6. Prepare your new power supply for installation by placing the switch in "off" position.7. Install power supply and connect to all electrical connections as noted in step 4.8. Plug new power supply to wall socket.9. Change switch position of new power supply to "on".10. Use the switch on the front of the computer to power on. |
