Answer:	It should work with Windows 8 though I only used with Windows 10. If you insert a DVD and a video player does not start up, you may need a player that will recognize the drive. On a recommendation from a friend, I installed "VLC media player" and this app opens when I insert a DVD into the Riodadas player. VLC is a free and open source media player that works with all Windows versions. You can get the player here: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It kept freezing and not ejecting my cds after using so much. It will work for small jobs, but if you have a lot of CDs to burn, it will stop working from being used too much.

My Lenovo laptop recognized it as a data storage device, but did not have a "Play, Record, etc. " utility. I tried several "FREE" drivers from the MicroSoft Store. All required a subscription after a 7-day trial. Clued by another reviewer, I Googled what I needed. I found a totally acceptable truly free media player from British vendor "VLC".
