  1. DVD Burners:

    • DVD burners, also known as DVD writers or optical disc drives, are hardware components used to read, write, and rewrite DVDs (Digital Versatile Discs).
    • They come in various formats, such as DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW, allowing users to burn data, movies, music, or other digital content onto DVD discs.
    • DVD burners are commonly found in desktop computers and some laptops, although they are becoming less common as digital distribution methods like streaming and USB storage have gained popularity.
    • DVD burners have different speeds, typically measured in terms of "x," with higher values indicating faster burning capabilities.
  2. USBs (Universal Serial Bus):

    • USBs, or USB flash drives, are portable storage devices that use the Universal Serial Bus interface to connect to computers and other devices.
    • They come in various capacities, ranging from a few megabytes to several terabytes, offering users a convenient way to store and transfer data.
    • USBs are plug-and-play devices, which means they can be easily connected to a computer's USB port without requiring special drivers or external power.
    • They are widely used for data storage, file backup, transferring files between devices, and creating bootable media for operating systems and software installations.
    • USBs have evolved over the years, with USB 3.0 and later versions offering faster data transfer speeds compared to older USB 2.0 devices.
  3. CD/DVD Drives:

    • CD/DVD drives are optical disc drives that can read and write CDs and DVDs. These drives were once standard components in most desktop and laptop computers.
    • CD/DVD drives use lasers to read and write data on optical discs, and they were widely used for software installation, media playback, and data backup.
    • However, CD/DVD drives have become less common in modern laptops and desktops due to the shift towards digital distribution and the availability of USB drives.
  4. External Components:

    • External components refer to hardware devices that can be connected externally to a computer. This includes external DVD burners, external hard drives, USB hubs, and more.
    • External DVD burners are portable DVD writers that can be connected to a computer via USB or other interfaces. They are useful for laptops and computers without built-in DVD drives.
  5. Computer Components:

    • Computer components are the essential hardware parts that make up a computer, including the central processing unit (CPU), motherboard, RAM, graphics card, power supply, and storage devices.
    • DVD burners and CD/DVD drives are examples of computer components, as they are used for data storage and retrieval.
  6. Computer Accessories:

    • Computer accessories encompass peripherals and additional hardware that enhance the functionality of a computer, such as keyboards, mice, monitors, printers, and external storage devices like USBs and external DVD burners.
  7. Electronics:

    • Electronics is a broad category that includes various electronic devices, components, and systems.DVD burners and USBs are examples of consumer electronics used for data storage and transfer.

In summary, DVD burners and USBs are important components in the world of computing and electronics, serving different purposes related to data storage, retrieval, and transfer. They have evolved over time to meet the changing needs of users and the advancements in technology.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work with windows
Answer: It should work with Windows 8 though I only used with Windows 10. If you insert a DVD and a video player does not start up, you may need a player that will recognize the drive. On a recommendation from a friend, I installed "VLC media player" and this app opens when I insert a DVD into the Riodadas player. VLC is a free and open source media player that works with all Windows versions. You can get the player here: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Question: Can this be used to install windows 10 without the need to somehow install a driver first? it's rather tough to do that when trying to install an os
Answer: This is basically a laptop optical drive in an external case with USB connection. I would think so. If the installation disk contains the installation software and the computer can access a USB device then it should. Changes to the boot device may be required.
Question: Does this play games like sims
Answer: It's played all my games without so much of a skip.
Question: Does this work on macs
Answer: Won't work with Mac 10.15.7! It was working before; now it seems useless. I see someone else is having this issue.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this require two USB ports to work
Answer: USB 2.0 is the *type* of USB port. Currently we are up to USB 3.0 which is even faster. This will work in a USB 3.0 port and you don't need blazing speed to read a DVD.
Question: does it need external power or just usb
Answer: no just power from USB port
Question: I'm sorry. i'm computer illiterate. can i use this to burn my music to a dvd-rw disc
Answer: I think it would burn music to a dvd-rw disc no problem, but if it was just music, and no video, you should only need a cd-rw disc and not a dvd disc. It burns anything! Good luck!
Question: Does it work with Windows
Answer: Perhaps this is info is too late, but I had this LG drive for about 6 months using it with Win-7.I just upgraded to Windows 10 last week, and the drive works just fine. I didn't have to update any drivers or anything.Unless Window 10 found the drivers and installed them in the background, so I didn't notice, but the bottom line is that it works fine.
