3 best usb 3 0 hubs

USB 3.0 hubs are devices used to expand the number of available USB ports on a computer or other compatible devices. Here's what you need to know about USB 3.0 hubs:

  1. USB 3.0 Standard: USB 3.0 is a previous generation of the Universal Serial Bus standard, offering faster data transfer speeds compared to its predecessor, USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is also known as "SuperSpeed USB." It provides increased bandwidth, making it suitable for high-speed data transfers and supporting various peripherals like external hard drives, flash drives, and more.

  2. Hub Functionality: USB 3.0 hubs come in various configurations, typically offering additional USB 3.0 ports (often four or more) to connect multiple USB devices to a single USB port on your computer. This allows users to expand their connectivity options without having to constantly plug and unplug devices.

  3. Data Transfer Speed: USB 3.0 hubs are designed to take advantage of the higher data transfer speeds of USB 3.0, which can reach up to 5 Gbps (gigabits per second). This is significantly faster than the 480 Mbps maximum speed of USB 2.0.

  4. Backward Compatibility: Most USB 3.0 hubs are backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices, meaning you can connect older USB peripherals to a USB 3.0 hub without issues. However, the data transfer speed will be limited to the capabilities of the connected device.

  5. Power Options: USB 3.0 hubs may come with or without an external power adapter.Hubs with external power can provide additional power to connected devices, making them suitable for power-hungry devices like external hard drives. Self-powered hubs can draw power from the host computer, which may limit their ability to support high-power devices.

  6. Design and Portability: USB 3.0 hubs come in various designs, including compact and portable options for those who need to expand their laptop's connectivity while on the go. Some hubs also offer features like built-in card readers or Ethernet ports.

  7. Operating System Compatibility: USB 3.0 hubs are generally compatible with a wide range of operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.

When choosing a USB 3.0 hub, consider factors like the number of available ports, whether you need external power, and any additional features that might be important for your specific needs. USB 3.0 hubs can be useful accessories for expanding your computer's connectivity options and managing multiple USB devices efficiently.

User questions & answers

Question: Can USB 2 connections be used with this
Answer: Yes it’s backward compatible
Question: If I select one of my ext hard drives which appear in system preferences > startup disk the machine still starts with my iMac hd. What is wrong
Answer: Try this, Turn on your Imac and wait for the boot sound, as soon as you hear the sound press and hold OPTION key. If you miss it , try it shut it down and turn it back on again. By pressing option key on startup will show all the accessible hard drives with operating system on it , so you can choose the one you wish to boot from.
Question: what are the dimensions of the box itself and how long is the power cord
Answer: The size of packing is 4.33 x 3.39 x 8.23 (inches), the size of product is 2.58 x 0.69 x 6.50 (inches), the data cord is 40 inches long, and the power cord is around 60 inches long
Question: Anyone with the UH720 model - do the high-powered ports support data transfer
Answer: No data on the high powered ports, and I consider that a bonus. It means I can now charge devices that don't have data transfer features. I have some devices (battery chargers, quad copters, other devices with internal batteries) which when plugged into USB data transfer ports cause an error and a beep from the computer that persists every 2 seconds. With these charge-only ports I can now charge any device at my computer desk.

User questions & answers

Question: I have 2 external hard drives: 1 is 500 GB, 1 is 2 TB. Both have their own power cords. Will they work with this hub
Answer: yes they will, I have a 3 tb WD, a 2 tb Fatom, and a 1tb HP they all work fine, and and any thumb drive that I plug in syncs right up.Some of the thumb drives are usb 2.0 , no problem
Question: What is the recommended ac adapter to use with this
Answer: JTJ said he didn't have a power jack. Either there is more than one version or he has one but didn't find it. It would be easy to miss. It's next to the USB cable. For basic devices, like a mouse, keyboard, etc, you do not need a power supply. The computer will power them, but the current the computer will supply is limited. If you plan to charge a smart phone, tablet, or something like that you should make the adapter part of your plans.(http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-100V-240V-Adapter-Support-PS-5V4A/dp/B00MRGKPH8 )
Question: If I plug this into a 2.0 USB port on my CPU, will I still get the benefit of Sabrent's 3.0 speed? Or is it about time I update my motherboard? Thanks
Answer: @T. Freese: No. The nature of USB is that devices can not communicate among themselves. All communication goes through the host computer. So a pair of 3.0 devices sharing a hub attached to a 2.0 computer will communicate at 2.0 speeds.
Question: Does the fact that each has a switch mean that you can just turn each of them off without doing "safely remove" or "eject" devices
Answer: The reason that you use the Windows Option to safely remove the drive is so that windows has a chance to close any File Pointer that is in use. If this is not done, then there is a chance that the file(s) will be locked and/or corrupted the next time the drive is accessed.So. It is recommended that you safely remove the drive before you hit that power switch on the hub.I have this hub and use it to access 1 4TB drive, 2 5TB drives and 1 8TB drive. That is a LOT of data to loose just because I got lazy. The one reason to have switches on a hub is so that you can have the drives OFF when not in use. This will save some life on the hard drive.Lance
