Question:	Can you use the power supply one, without the power supply if you wanted to
Answer:	Yes the USB hub will work fine without the AC power adapter. You will need the AC adapter if you want to charge more power-intensive accessories like iPads, etc. that require higher current or if you want to charge 4 devices at one time.

Answer:	measured mine at about 1 meter. I really like this thing. The two red high-power only ports are oriented 180 degrees from the USB 3.0 ports so you physically can't mix them up either.
Question:	How many ports can I have active at one time, without overloading the single port of the computer
Answer:	You can use all 4. However, If you need to utilize the speed of 3.0 x4 you will need that kind of throughput on the port you attach it to and this device as well (not sure of max throughput). Most USB devices don't need that kind of speed (such as web cam, keyboards, mice) For instance, if you hook up 3 external SSD drives and VR headset, you will potentially bottleneck on speed. The devices will still function, just not at 100% speed.
Question:	what's the different between the one with the external power adapter and the one without
Answer:	With my USB 3 Ports on my Acer TC-780 front panel ports, I can power all four ports with thumb drives. When I tried the same with a Dell U473D Slim Multimedia Keyboard with 2 USB Port I had to use the pawer supply that came with the HB-UMP3 4-port Powered USB hub. I would advise getting the powered hub because you don't know if your USB port will support enough devices without the power supply unit.

Answer:	@T. Freese: No. The nature of USB is that devices can not communicate among themselves. All communication goes through the host computer. So a pair of 3.0 devices sharing a hub attached to a 2.0 computer will communicate at 2.0 speeds.
Question:	Does the fact that each has a switch mean that you can just turn each of them off without doing "safely remove" or "eject" devices
Answer:	The reason that you use the Windows Option to safely remove the drive is so that windows has a chance to close any File Pointer that is in use. If this is not done, then there is a chance that the file(s) will be locked and/or corrupted the next time the drive is accessed.So. It is recommended that you safely remove the drive before you hit that power switch on the hub.I have this hub and use it to access 1 4TB drive, 2 5TB drives and 1 8TB drive. That is a LOT of data to loose just because I got lazy.The one reason to have switches on a hub is so that you can have the drives OFF when not in use. Question:	can all seven ports be used for data transfer, or are some for charging only
Answer:	Do the external drives to be connected to the hub have their own power source? If they are intended to run off of the power of the hub, you may have problems. This is my speculation based on the note under the product description stating the product should not be used with WD passport hard drives. I have several of those, each 1TB, and they run off the power of the hub. Currently, they are plugged into USB 2.0 ports, but they are USB 3.0 compatible products used as "backwards compatible," and run very slowly with USB 2.0, but they run. With USB 3.0, there is evidently a reason they are not supposed to be used. So, I would say it depends on whether the external hard drives have their own power source and, specifically, if they are WD passport drives, the product information I saw said they should not be used with this hub.

Answer:	power supply is wall to brick then brick to hub. brick is about 4 x 2 x 1.5. my brick sits on a shelf with other bricks powering my system.

Answer:	A normal USB hub will not deliver power when the computer is off or disconnected. This specific unit has one port (the "Smart Charging Port") which is designed to deliver power without a computer, but the other ports will not. When attached to a computer, the other 9 ports will deliver power, but only to the limits of the USB spec. This is a maximum of 500mA (2.5W) for USB 2.0 devices or 900mA (4.5W) for USB 3.0 devices. This is enough to charge devices, but it will almost certainly be slower than using the charging port, which can deliver 2.1A (10.5W)
Question:	How many hdds can i plug without them affecting the speed
Answer:	5 amps. But the power supply is 12 volts, so in reality the USB-devices you connect can pull way more than that since the USB ports are only 5 volts.Remember that volts multiplied with amps equals wattage (so 12 volts times 5 amps equals 60 watts). Nine USB ports providing a maximum of 0.9 amps times 5 volts equals 40½ watts, and then you have a charger port of 2.1 amps times 5 volts which equals 11 watt. So in theory, if you fill up the entire device with USB-devices that can draw maximum power from all the ports, the maximal power draw should be around 51½ watt, which is less than the power supply provides. Therefore, this hub should never give you any disconnects because of too huge a power draw, which was a frequent problem with my old USB hub.

Answer:	My first impulse was to say "NO", but now upon further consideration of the problem I more emphatically say "NO". There's only one USB plug, so it can only go to one computer. If you jury rig some sort of male-to-male USB cable, you'd probably just end up with sparks coming out of the USB socket on one or both of your computers. But the general idea of having a switchable external disk does have merit. Plugging and unplugging cables is such a pain.

Answer:	It doesn't have any tabs or holes to mount it with. It has 4 little rubber bumps on the bottom for feet. you could use some of the picture hanging tape stuff that you can stretch to get off and use it like double sided tape. or make some kind of bracket. Nothing on the unit itself.

By pressing option key on startup will show all the accessible hard drives with operating system on it , so you can choose the one you wish to boot from.

Answer:	No data on the high powered ports, and I consider that a bonus. It means I can now charge devices that don't have data transfer features. I have some devices (battery chargers, quad copters, other devices with internal batteries) which when plugged into USB data transfer ports cause an error and a beep from the computer that persists every 2 seconds. With these charge-only ports I can now charge any device at my computer desk.

Answer:	Just Saying's comment is incredibly inaccurate and misleading. The speed of the USB 3.0 port that is connecting to this device will be the limiting factor, not the computer's processor. USB 3.0 is limited to 5 Gb/s. Because the port is being split 7 ways, if you have 7 drives attached, the drives will have to share that 5 Gb/s. That speed is not specifically split between the ports however. It's dynamically shared. So, for example, if 7 drives are connected, but only one is being used to transfer files at the time, the drive will experience roughly the full 5 Gb/s. However, if 5 drives are all transferring files, the speed would then be (very roughly this depends on a number of factors) 1 Gb/s each.
