User questions & answers
Question: | What is the practical difference between the "5 Ports Rear & 20PIN Internal" versus the "5 Ports Rear & 2-Port Internal |
Answer: | The 5-Port, 20-Pin has a USB 3.0 header internally so that you can connect cables (that probable came with your case) to external USB ports. Frequently, these are on the front or the top of your case. The 2-Port internal actually has two standard USB connections so that you can connect standard USB cables within the case. There may be instances where a case's external USB ports need that but I think most need the 20-Pin header. |
Question: | Does this card work on linux distros? if it's worked for you, which distro and kernel |
Answer: | The card works at USB 2.0 speeds on Linux. It does not work at USB 3.0 speeds on my computer. The manual says: "USB 3.0 Drivers are not supported on Mac or Linux OS." I am using it on a HP Z800 workstation running Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.1. It took over 6 hours to transmit 1 TB of data from an external drive that has USB 3.0. The data speed started out at 75 Mb/sec then quickly slowed to 54 to 55 Mb/sec. |
Question: | how many controllers does this have |
Answer: | It has one 4 channel Frisco Logic controller and one Via VL8120Q7 hub controller for sharing those ports. It is not completely clear which of the 7 possible ports are shared. |
Question: | Has anyone used this with Windows |
Answer: | On 11 June 2016 I installed KTU3FR-5O2I the 5-port USB 3.0 interface board into an Acer Aspire AT3-710-UR57 Desktop. The purpose was to connect multiple Seagate USB 3.0 hard drives to it. The hardware installation was straight-forward. My system required the Molex-to-ESATA power adapter (which was one of the two cables sent with the board). I made sure the loose end of that cable was tied down with a Tie Wrap so that it wouldn't possibly intrude into the CPU cooling fan (which on my system was a bit close to it). When it booted up there were no software problems/issues. I went to the Inateck Web site, downloaded the right device driver (get the newest version for the board, the driver is described as the device driver for Windows 7 "Driver For Windows Ver3.5.106.0"), double-clicked on it to extract the zipped files into "My Documents" and ran the set up program. After that completed, I rebooted and all hard drive functions worked A-OK. No software problems/issues with Windows 10 Professional 64-bit and the KTU3FR-5O2I. I used the Inateck device driver because I wanted to ensure any KTU3FR-5O2I-specific functionality was included, but as noted in several comments Window 10 includes native support for the KTU3FR-5O2I chipset so I would agree the KTU3FR-5O2I should work in Windows 10 systems without installing the Inateck driver, but also in my case at least, it worked perfectly in Windows 10 Professional 64-bit when using their driver. Apparently their driver installation program did make changes because Windows 10 advised a reboot is required, but it's also possible no actual changes were made because the latest chipset is already supported. Regardless, the KTU3FR-5O2I worked A-OK in Windows 10 Professional 64-bit. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it better to use the mini PCIe slot or the larger one |
Answer: | If you mean the short versus the longer slots (X1 or X 16) it doesn't matter. It is only going to draw the power that it needs because the connectors are only going to connect in a X1 (short slot) mode. The main issue is that you connect the card to an internal power supply, either the Molex connector or the SATA style connector; whichever one will fit. My suggestion is to install it in one of the X1 (short) slots and save the longer slots for something like a video card. Windows 7 will find drivers for it but it's a good idea to use the driver disk that came with it. You're not going to get super blazing speed unless you have some super blazing adapter or protocol installed which most USB 3.0 devices do not have. However, I have been very happy with this device even though I know I'm not going to get the full throughput that is commonly advertised for USB 3.0. You have to read the advertisements carefully because they say UP TO 400+ megabits per second. |
Question: | If I plug in four 3.0 usb flash drives into this, will all four of the usb ports operate at 3.0 usb speed |
Answer: | This card, like most, has one Host Controller (the main chip on the board). This single controller has a 5Gbps max, and all four ports share it. You can do a search for 'dedicated channel' cards and find ones built with multiple chips-- but they are expensive! |
Question: | Whats the chip set |
Answer: | Fresco FL1100 |
Question: | How to install the PCI-E card |
Answer: | 1. Turn off the power to your computer.2. Unplug the power cord and remove your computers cover/side panel.3. Remove the slot bracket from an available PCIe slot.4. To install the card, carefully align the card's bus connector (golden portion) with the selected PCIe slot on the motherboard. Push the card down firmly.5. Use the included screw (or the screw from the slot bracket) to secure the card to the case.6. Replace the computer cover/side panel and reconnect the power cord. Then install the driver. (No additional driver is needed for Mac Pro/ Win8)Here is a video about how to install PCI-E card on Inateck officail website:http://www.inateck.com/inateck-ktu3fr-5o2u-usb-3-0-pci-express-card/ |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this card work with Windows Vista Home Premium (64)? No mention in the description |
Answer: | On Youtube search for "installing pcie usb 3.0 card' and see if it looks like you want to try it. This is what I remember doing, but all situations are different: power down computer, disconnect power cable, then open case, find empty PCI-E slot, and remove its cover at back of computer case. Then insert PCI-E card firmly into slot, secure with screw if necessary. Disconnect power cable from hard drive, insert proper Y cable to card, hard drive and power supply. Close case, reconnect power cable, restart computer. If you have Windows 10, it will install drivers, if not, should be on supplied CD. My interface has been fine so far. |
Question: | How do I get an adapter to connect this card to the front USB ports on the computer |
Answer: | No, This is only used for usb type a and one usb type c expansion. What you would be looking for to run video would be a thunderbolt expansion card, Thunderbolt and type c look the same but are not. Only the Thunderbolt card will support video output. |
Question: | How come This does not have a power connector ? All usb 3 needs power |
Answer: | I believe the 20 pin adapter is used for a computer which has a 20-pin connector on the motherboard for direct connection for usb 3.0. Most older computers will use the molex 4 pin male to 15 pin sata connector. My older computer did not have the usb 3.0 20 pin connector on the motherboard. If you search "UCEC USB 3.0 Motherboard 20 Pin Male to Female Extension Cable 50cm" in amazon you will see what it looks like. |
Question: | I only have Pcie 1x slot. Which card will work with Pcie 1x, 2 Ports Rear & 20 Pin Internal or 4 port USB 3.0/ New Release version |
Answer: | Today I tested mine and doesn’t work at all, and didn’t find any driver. I will do more research to see if I can get it to work! I will keep you posted! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why is my Daughter complaining that her phone stops charging overnight |
Answer: | This is an external powered USB hub with individual port power control. If you're hooked up to a computer and you power off the system at night then the USB hub is not getting an "on" signal. This is not a wall plug phone charger, it requires an input source to be active, not just external power. |
Question: | Does it work if the power adapter is not plugged into the wall |
Answer: | I just tested mine and it works without the AC adapter connected. I'm not sure it would handle powering 7 devices along with the charging port though. |
Question: | Can it be used only with the pc usb? or always need to be connected to the electrical outlet |
Answer: | It depends on what type of USB port your laptop has (this dictates the maximum power transmission capacity) and how much demand you're placing on the device. If it's a bunch of small things like BT dongles and small flash USB/SD drives, it may power them all. If you use an external HDD or SSD (some are built to be that from the start, the rest can be converted to one via a USB enclosure), especially the 3.5 inch varieties which standard desktop towers use, you are far more likely to have power shortages. For example, my SSD/HDDs will beep when attached to a hub and cannot be loaded by the PC, if I use two at a time and I don't attach some sort of external power source (or I don't use one high enough). Also, bear in mind each USB port in a hub has a maximum power transmission rate. Thus, if you use a device that consumes far less power than the listed combined max rate/power jack intake for the hub, but consumes more than what an individual port of that hub can provide, it will not work properly. This shouldn't be a concern unless you use a very high-power or high-end device. For reference, an external 2.5-inch USB external hard drive uses 0.5 amperes (also listed as 500 mAh). The standard 2.0 USB A-type ports supply at least 0.5 A. |
Question: | Can all ports be used for charging and transfer data |
Answer: | All upper ports can be used for data and charging. The port at the front of the hub is charging only. I run my USB desk light from the front port, and works fine. The 7 upper ports I use for things like my wireless keyboard/mouse, cell phone charging/connection to laptop. It runs my external DVD drive, and works with all ports in use at once. Works with USB 3/2 with no data loss. I will purchase a new one to replace an existing hub behind my desk. Lastly, I have gone through multiple devices like this one, and they fell apart, or failed within a year. This device has exceed my expectations. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want a hub to give 5v to my blue yeti mic., as well as to power a wd 3tb portable drive. i need powered and data ports. 3.0 is future proofing |
Answer: | The IQ ports just provide power. They don't provide a data connection. So you'd need a data connection that delivered 1.3 amps. Some drives provide a "Y" cable that allows you to connection to two ports. One of them is the data connection, the other is providing just additional power. The data ports on this provide .9 amps each so you could use two of those or figure out which connection on the "Y" cable is data and which is just power and connect the one that is just power up to the IQ port. If you just have one USB connection on your cable you might need to find another hub that provides 1.3 Amps (i.e. 1300 mA) or more. |
Question: | Some of the usb ports (data sync) have stopped working. Is this a common issue |
Answer: | The light on my HyperX Cloud 2 stays on. And my Laptop Cooling Pad (fan) stays running. So I would say the power stays on. |
Question: | Will this hub work with a usb 2.0 bdr drive operating at 1.3 amps? can it be plugged in iq ports |
Answer: | This PowerPort Strip 3 supports 100-240V, it can be used in Europe. |
Question: | Does the hub stay powered after the computer is off? ie if i turn off my laptop will my keyboard lights turn off as well if i'm using external power |
Answer: | It's 300J. |

Product description
Add up to 4 devices quickly and easily with the Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub. The thin, lightweight design makes this hub a great travel companion to expand one USB 3.0 port into four. Especially great for notebooks which come with only a few ports in an era when you need to attach many USB devices at once, such as a printer, card reader, cell phone, iPod, thumb drive, mouse, keyboard, or an external hard drive. Fully backwards compatible with the USB 2.0/1.1 products. Plus, each port has its own separate power switch so you can control each port independently.
Expand your high speed USB 3.0 ports
Technology seems to advance at ever increasing speeds. With the recent release of Super-Speed USB 3.0, you can now transfer data at up to 10 times the speeds of the older USB 2.0 standards! Speeds of 5Gbps are a vast improvement over USB 2.0 that only supports up to 480Mbps. The Sabrent USB 3.0 Hub is a great tool to expand a single USB 3.0 port into 4 ports, so now you can connect all of your USB devices at one time. Plus, its small and elegant design has been configured to be as thin as possible so as to not take up precious space as you travel. Yet, it is still backward compatible with your older devices, so you can still use it in conjunction with USB 2.0 devices.
System Requirements:
* Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10
* Mac OS X

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use the power supply one, without the power supply if you wanted to |
Answer: | Yes the USB hub will work fine without the AC power adapter. You will need the AC adapter if you want to charge more power-intensive accessories like iPads, etc. that require higher current or if you want to charge 4 devices at one time. |
Question: | How long is USB3 cable |
Answer: | measured mine at about 1 meter. I really like this thing. The two red high-power only ports are oriented 180 degrees from the USB 3.0 ports so you physically can't mix them up either. |
Question: | How many ports can I have active at one time, without overloading the single port of the computer |
Answer: | You can use all 4. However, If you need to utilize the speed of 3.0 x4 you will need that kind of throughput on the port you attach it to and this device as well (not sure of max throughput). Most USB devices don't need that kind of speed (such as web cam, keyboards, mice) For instance, if you hook up 3 external SSD drives and VR headset, you will potentially bottleneck on speed. The devices will still function, just not at 100% speed. |
Question: | what's the different between the one with the external power adapter and the one without |
Answer: | With my USB 3 Ports on my Acer TC-780 front panel ports, I can power all four ports with thumb drives. When I tried the same with a Dell U473D Slim Multimedia Keyboard with 2 USB Port I had to use the pawer supply that came with the HB-UMP3 4-port Powered USB hub. I would advise getting the powered hub because you don't know if your USB port will support enough devices without the power supply unit. |
