Installation Instructions

Attention:

1. It requires 2 screws and 1 washer to assemble the enclosure. When install the round washer to assemble SSD and PCB, please pay attention to the thickness of the washer, it has two directions, please keep upper thin and bottom thick. When insert the pcb to house casing, as it is shrapnel design, pls press down the PCB slightly to ensure the proper insertion.

2.After installed, when the first time to use the new SSD, it may not be found, please partition and format it first under disk management, then it can be used normally. If want to work on both Mac and Windows OS, please format it to EXFAT.

Question:	I have a 1TB internal hard drive which I want to convert to external for backup storage.Is this a viable solution
Answer:	Depends on the HDD or SSD you are using and how you intend to use it. This drive is really made for fast-access to a variety of different drives for shorter periods. The interface is high-speed, but the case does NOT seal out dust, it does not give any sort of shock/impact damage protection, and not having any sort of cooling, it can get very hot with high speed HDDs. I have a 10k RPM WD Raptor from quite a few years back that I wanted to pull music off of. Over about an hour of usage, it got quite hot. While perfectly fine for intermittent usage, this is not ideal for frequent or prolonged usage given heat is a major catalyst of premature hard drive failure. So with higher RPM HDDs, this is not as good a choice for constant usage as a dedicated enclosure with some shock protection and a cooling fan/heat sinks. With a SSD, this is obviously not of concern. So if your 1tb is a HDD and you want to have it running constantly for backups, an external with a fan and shock protection would be a better match, IMO. Depending on the age of your drive though, it may be worth considering buying a new drive outright given you can get enterprise grade drives like the WD RE4's in that size for under $70 and SSDs have even gotten very affordable. While predicting when a specific drive fails is very difficult to do, standard consumer-grade HDDs tend to have failure rates increase at the 3-4 year mark and really spike at the 4-5 year mark (Google's study on this is the most detailed I know of to date.) An enterprise drive would give you a more reliable backup system with a longer reliable service life, and usually read/write speeds that are 2-3 times faster than standard internal HDDs (of which you would need to use USB3 or ThunderBolt to take full advantage of.)Sorry for the long response.

Answer:	My portable Seagate drive has approximate dimensions of 4-1/2" x 3" x 13/16". If your drive has similar dimensions it will fit this case great. BTW, there are two compartments to this case. A padded compartment for the drive which has two elastic straps which holds the drive, and another section with a mesh restraint to hold USB cables, thumb drives, sd cards, etc. If your drive is no larger than mine it's an excellent case for under 10 bucks.

Answer:	I Bought this case for that specific Hard Drive and I will admit that I'm not happy with how tight the hard drive fits in there but as others have said I am able to zip it closed. I'm seriously thinking about removing that internal Flap. I think once it is gone the drive will tint in there much nicer.

Answer:	I have two of these. One for my WD EasyStore 1 TB drive and one for my WD Elements 2 TB drive. The 2 TB is about twice as thick as the 1 TB drive and they each fit comfortably in their individual cases, along with the Owners Manual and the USB cable. Remember this case is for the drive...not a case for all our electronics. .

Answer:	I had my HD in this case with a waterbottle that spilled in my backpack. The case was soaked on the inside. I'd say the main fabric resists water but water can seep through the zipper. I'm waiting for the drive to dry out before I plug it in to see if it survived the swim.

Question:	I've read other reviews that state the included cable doesn't work well. Has the included cable been replaced with one that works
Answer:	Yes, I had a small SSD (256GB)which I replaced with a 1 TB SSD. You place the new SSD in the adaptor and connect it via the included USB 3.1 (or C) cable to your PC, laptop, etc, then format the new SSD. I then ran a program called Paragon Hard Disk Manager which clones your old SSD. Once finished, I replaced the old SSD with the new SSD and booted up the system. It ran beautifully and looked just like my old SSD; just with more space on the SSD. All the old programs and bootups were exactly as they were before; I've had mine new SSD for a couple weeks now and have yet to notice anything different from my old SSD. I couldn't be more pleased.
Question:	What chipset/bridge controller does "enclosure usb 3.1 gen 2" use
Answer:	I am on a ThinkPad T480s and just bought a Samsung EVO 970 Plus 1 TB NVMe m.2 SSD and put it into this enclosure. My goal is to use the Samsung Data Migration software to clone my current SSD (also Samsung, 512 GB) to this new SSD so it will be running faster and have more storage space. The new SSD in this enclosure has been recognized by my Windows 10 system (after setting it up in the Disk Manager) as a normal external drive. Unfortunately, as mentioned by other users, it will not be recognized as a Samsung drive by the Samsung Data Migration software, no matter using the USB-C to C cable or USB-C to A cable. After doing some research, I think the only way out is to use some other cloning software. Hopefully, this is helpful.

Answer:	Inside the case there is a pocket for its own the USB cord of the external hard drive.
Question:	Seller: please clarify internal dimensions. if external height is 1.5 inches, internal height can't be 3 inches
Answer:	The case is about 1.25 inches high internal.
Question:	Is this actually water proof or just resistant
Answer:	I know it says "Waterproof", however, my educated guess is that it is water resistant. It is a great little case. I have traveled with it and it does a great job of protecting the drive. I have not actually tested it to see if it is waterproof, or to what depth it might be waterproof and I will not be in any hurry to run that test. However, if I dropped it in my pool, it might keep the drive safe for a short time...I would not test any further!
Question:	Would this for a drive that's 2.9 x 0.9 x 4.7 inches
Answer:	I can't say for sure that it will, but it comfortably fits my Seagate backup plus exteral drive which measures 4.5 x 3 x 0.5 inches.
