14 best sata power cables
SATA power cables are essential components in computer hardware that provide power to SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) devices such as hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), optical drives, and other storage peripherals. These cables are commonly used in desktop computers and servers for connecting storage devices to the power supply unit (PSU). Here are some key points about SATA power cables:
Connector Type: SATA power cables feature a distinctive L-shaped connector with 15 pins. This connector is designed to fit into the corresponding power input on SATA drives and other compatible devices.
Compatibility: SATA power cables are compatible with a wide range of SATA devices, including SATA hard drives and SSDs. They are a standard power connection for most modern storage drives and optical drives.
Power Supply Connection: The other end of the SATA power cable typically features a standard 4-pin Molex or SATA power connector, which connects to the PSU. These connectors vary depending on the power supply unit, but most modern PSUs include SATA power connectors as they have become the standard.
Daisy-Chaining: SATA power cables often come with multiple connectors along the same cable, allowing users to connect multiple SATA devices to a single cable. This can help reduce cable clutter within a computer case.
Power Delivery: SATA power cables provide the necessary voltage and current to SATA devices, ensuring they receive a stable power supply for proper operation. They are designed to handle the power requirements of typical storage devices.
Length and Flexibility: SATA power cables come in different lengths to accommodate various configurations and case sizes. They are designed to be flexible to facilitate cable management within a computer chassis.
Hot-Swappability: SATA devices are often hot-swappable, meaning they can be connected or disconnected while the computer is running. SATA power cables support this feature, allowing for easy replacement or addition of drives without shutting down the system.
Reliability: SATA power cables are known for their reliability and durability. They are designed to provide a secure and consistent power connection to storage devices.
In summary, SATA power cables are a crucial part of computer hardware, providing the necessary power to SATA storage devices in desktop computers and servers. They are known for their compatibility, reliability, and flexibility, making them a standard choice for connecting storage peripherals to the power supply unit in modern computer systems.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this unit work in an older MacBook Pro |
Answer: | This should work with any computer that has a USB port. Preferably USB 3 for faster throughput. |
Question: | will this cable work for my dell latitude D 600 hard drive |
Answer: | Not sure about the interface of your Dell hard drive. This cable is SATA III male to SATA III male, 4-pin ATX male to 2x 15-pin SATA female & 15-pin SATA male to 2x 15-pin SATA female. |
Question: | Will these cables work for adding a second drive(ssd 2.5) to my dell xps |
Answer: | They should but you will need the 90 degree angle one. So it is always best to check where the drive will be mounted to check length first, but as stated, in the standard dell secondary bay, you will need a 90 degree. Unfortunately you will need to see if it needs to be left angle or right angle. From the docs, it looks to be a right-angle sata. There is NO "100% it will work". A bit of reading and research should always be done. Or just open the computer and look. |
Question: | How long are the sata cables |
Answer: | These are short. I have an ATX case and the SATA connectors on my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H) are at the back of the case and on one side. I will have to put my new drive on the floor of my case (luckily there is a sort of drive slot), if I keep these, as my drive bays are up high at the front. And absolutely no way they would reach to my DVD. I realize these are around 18", which most cables in search results are, but for many computers, you need them a bit longer. I thought "why would you need a foot and a half? But 18-19" is not as long as you'd think! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many are included in the package |
Answer: | The Garmin Edge 1030 mount will fit both the 31.8 cm and the 25.8 cm handlebars. Two rubber spacers are included to facilitate this. |
Question: | Would it be safe to link two of these together to make a 24 inch cable |
Answer: | The diameter matters more than the width, it fits my mountain bike and road bike just fine, there is some adjustability so as long as you have a "standard" handlebar it should fit. |
Question: | can I use to extend a power wire thats too short |
Answer: | Sorry I am not familiar with the charge power pack and how it attaches to the out front mount. Plus I can't remember seeing any other parts or inserts included with the 1030 Edge mount. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i run 2 ssd or hdd off of this |
Answer: | I'm using it with an NZXT Grid+ it should work the same |
Question: | I have a 750w Power supply, will using this be fine |
Answer: | This adapter will adapt any SATA power cable to Molex. While the EVGA 650 b3 has no SATA power outputs located directly on the PSU, any of its modular SATA cables may be converted with this adapter. |
Question: | I’m looking to use this on two 2.5” laptop drives; would this product work |
Answer: | The LP4SATAFM12 enables you to power an LP4 Molex device from a SATA power connection on the computer. As long as the connecting device uses a LP4 Molex connection, the LP4SATAFM12 should work. |
Question: | How good is the quality |
Answer: | This is a SATA power extension cable and it supports the power that's supplied by the main SATA cable that it is extending. Pins 7, 8, 9 carry +5VDC and pins 13, 14, 15 carry +12VDC. As long as the load is split across all three pins for the respective voltages, there should be no problem with the 2 amp requirement as each pin would carry 2/3 amp. I use this extender cable to supply power to a PCIe adapter with no problems. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use this for GPU Mining. Will this catch on fire if I connect it to my GPU? I heard the cheaper ones catch on fire |
Answer: | It depends on how much of that 750 your system already uses and how much the component you plan on adding uses. If it's still less than 750 it will be ok, just don't split a splitter. You can check your power usage by building your rig on pcpartpicker.com |

Product description
Each major revision of the Serial ATA interface specification has doubled the maximum data transfer rate. The latest SATA Revision 3.0 allows for data transfer speeds of up to 6 Gbps.
While the cables for all three revisions appear to be similar and will physically fit into the connectors on all SATA drives and controllers, the higher data transfer rate of SATA 6 Gbps requires higher quality materials and closer tolerances than the previous two revisions required.
Monoprice SATA 6 Gbps cables are certified to provide maximum speeds from your SATA system, up to 6 Gbps when used with equivalent devices and controllers.
One end of this internal cable features a straight connector, while the other end uses a 90-degree connector, which can make for better cable management in some situations, especially in tight spaces. Each end has an attached locking latch, to ensure that your connections do not come loose due to movement or vibration.
Note that SATA 6 Gbps cables are backwards compatible and can be used with SATA 3 Gbps and SATA 1.5 Gbps devices. However, the data transfer of the SATA subsystem will be limited to that of the slowest device. So, for example, if a SATA 6 Gbps cable is connected to a SATA 3 Gbps drive and a SATA 1.5 Gbps controller, the drive will be limited to a transfer rate of 1.5 Gbps.
- Sata Revision 3. 0 (aka SATA III) provides up to 6 Gaps data throughput
- Straight-through connector on one end, 90-degree connector on the other
- Includes locking latch on each end of the cable to ensure it doesn't work itself loose
- Backwards compatible with SATA Revision 1 and 2 (aka SATA I and SATA II)
User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work to transfer data from m2 to m2 ssd drive |
Answer: | Does it have SATA interface? Check your drive specs. |
Question: | Will this work in both a 13in macbook and a 15in macbook pro? Both |
Answer: | No the sata 3 cable used for a macbook are ultra thin to go under the hard drive. |
Question: | is this the cable for ssd replacing? im about to buy samsung ssd evo 250g |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | What is the difference in configuration between a right angle cable and a 90 degree cable |
Answer: | It has long been a standard (that I first learned in high-school Geometry class) to describe anything physical that had a 90 degree angle (or turn) in it's shape, to also describe that 90 degree angle as a right angle. Looking at the photo of the cable I'm now seeing to the left, the connector on the right has a 90 degree angle (turn) in it (the left end has a "straight" connector). This said, when looking at products on Amazon, I have found it more accurate to look at the photos of the product and trust less the title and description of the product. I, a few times in the past, have alerted Amazon to what I have thought were inaccurate titles or descriptions of products and they have always made changes upon my suggestions. |

User questions & answers
Question: | When using this cable, does it reduce the power avbl to each drive? Also, after connected, do the drives appear as separate drives in Win Explorer |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | I need an SATA Y splitter for an extra drive. This has 15 pins, what about the other 7 pins |
Answer: | The Molex side is male, as pictured. The pins are a bit enclosed, but they should connect to the 4-pin headers from a power supply. |
Question: | What is the spacing between sata power connectors? My case is an Antec P183 and ive wanted one of these for the lower sata power for awhile |
Answer: | Just remember the "Molex to SATA, lose all your data" rule and try to avoid these adapters at all costs, even buying a PSU with more SATA as an alternative. If you gamble with Molex to SATA, it's best to look for ones that are crimped instead of plastic molded (as the molding process can merge connections unintentionally underneath the casing due to pressure and heat involved). Unfortunately, this item is of the molded type. |
Question: | Would this drive 4 Hitachi UltraStars? I would hate to kill my drives from the lack of power |
Answer: | Yes it turns 1 power output into 2 power output just need a spare data sata on the motherboard for the 2nd drive. I bought this to power several Hdd since my computer supports only 4 Hdd now it supports 8 |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this support 5V / 2A and 12V / 2A |
Answer: | You can only split the power. The 7pin is for data. You cannot split. If you need more sata data ports, then you need to install a sata expansion card. |
Question: | would the fifth pin on the female end provide 3.3v? I need a 5pin sata cable to power my h100i rgb plantnium pump led |
Answer: | I've got two of these. The spacing is 3.75 inches (9.5cm) between the sata connectors. |
Question: | Can i use it as a normal cable? like connecting the hard drive to the psu |
Answer: | You're asking the wrong question on these splitters. These will power whatever you plug them into. Your power supply is the question you need to address by asking "is it powerful enough for all my devices?". When in doubt and you've added several power eaters over time without an upgrade to the power supply it makes a good note to Santa for a gift of one, or a money gift to get one. I run a 750 watt power supply for 6 internal SATA disc drives, an SSD, 2 DVD drives and it serves me well. When I add a few more peripherals I'll go to a 1000 watt unit. Too much power is better than too little. |
Question: | Can it power a Western Digital hard drive |
Answer: | RESPONSE FROM MANUFACTURER-CABLE MATTERS: Thanks for asking. This cable supports 5V SATA drives (not 3.3V) and 12V ATX power supplies. Please check the rating of your GPU miner. Please feel free to let us know if you have any further questions. You can also contact us through Amazon's messaging center by opening the product page, clicking on "Sold by Cable Matters" and then "Ask a Question." Please include a link to this question for reference and we’ll be happy to help you further. |

Question: | I'm using a mounting kit for 2.5" to 3.5" bay where 2 2.5" SDD are on top of each other. will this be thin enough fit or too thick with release latch |
Answer: | Hello customer, It is unable to use it as cable. It is used to lengthen the connection between host power connector and the 15 Pin SATA hard drives. Hope this will be helpful. J&D Team |
Question: | Have any of these ever burst into flames for anyone |
Answer: | Yes. It can power a 3.5 or a 2.5 hard drive. |
Question: | Are these crimped or injection molded |
Answer: | There are two basic wiring systems in the computer: 1. the power wires; 2. the data wires. These power wires simply provide power to the hard drives. That is all they do. SATA data cables, on the other hand, transfer the data signal and this is what your operating system "sees". Whether your drives show up as individual drives (separate drive letters) depends on how you configure your system. The default in a Windows system is separate drives each with their own drive letter. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the 6th pin spot left un-terminated on the mini atx? (the original dell cable has 2 yellows |
Answer: | That is EXACTLY what I was using these for but I paired these with this ICY Dock mounting bracket https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GMGZBP0/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 because it recessed the SSDs far enough back so these power splitters would fit back into the drive mounting area. I also had to be sure I was using flat (not right angle) data cables. I ended up retrofitting a small server that was only designed for about 3 drives and ended up with 6 SSDs using the ICY bracket and these power splitters. |
Question: | can i connect this from psu to ssd |
Answer: | No. In fact they never get warm, other than whatever heat is transferred from the hard drive. |
Question: | Will this cable work with the mini 6-pin port on the Mac Pro 5,1 logic board |
Answer: | Crimped. |
Question: | Will this power my 4 port usb card in my dell |
Answer: | This is a SATA power extension cable and it supports the power that's supplied by the main SATA cable that it is extending. Pins 7, 8, 9 carry +5VDC and pins 13, 14, 15 carry +12VDC. As long as the load is split across all three pins for the respective voltages, there should be no problem with the 2 amp requirement as each pin would carry 2/3 amp. I use this extender cable to supply power to a PCIe adapter with no problems. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this be used as a power cord to the ssd? the ssd i got didnt come with a power cord for some reason so i was looking online and found this |
Answer: | No, this adapter can not be connected from PSU to SSD. This item only works with some types of Dell motherboard. We have some other items to work with PSUs. Please tell us your PSU type. We will check which item of ours is to work with your PSU. |
Question: | Is this cable to power HDD and SSD |
Answer: | No, this cable only works with some types of DELL Inspiron series as listed. |
Question: | Any buyers have issues with this product? Bad cables or anything of that nature |
Answer: | This cable just powers the sata port device like liquid CPU cooler, mechanical hhd and a ssd, not 4 pin port. |
Question: | why the heck is the pictures a web cam |
Answer: | Your question is not clear. “Mating cycle” is a biological concept, but seems irrelevant here. The connectors conform to the SATA spec. They allow you to power two SATA devices using only one outlet from the power supply. You can find the pin-outs on the internet, if that is your question |
