At the bottom of the bamboo, there is a plastic piece that fits in. You can remove that plastic piece to clean. Note, the plastic piece is divided into three small sections, and there are holes that allow drainage. If you don't keep the plastic piece dry, it will get slimy. Easy enough to clean. Answer:	The unit itself is 5-3/4" W x 15" L. Measuring the feet only, it's 5" x 12". The silverware holder rack thing extends 2" beyond the feet on one end, and the bottom extends 1" beyond the feet on the other. It fits my 22" x 33" 60/40 drop-in sink on the small (40%) side perfectly front to back, with a few inches to spare on the sides. I love this, and thanks to the person who designed it and the company that manufactures it. Well done.
