The bottom line as to how large the inlet hose should be (measured in diameter) is virtually directly related to how many gallons per minute you will be spraying. That being said, very low inlet water pressure may need 3/4" hose. Almost all homes have water pressure at 40 pounds per square inch (psi) or higher. A 1/2" inlet hose is more than adequate as long as you don't use a hose of very long length. If your inlet hose is longer than 75 feet, step up to the 3/4" hose. Of course, using a hose larger than needed, in diameter, has no negative effect at all. Hope this helps.
