11 best subwoofer with ported enclosures
A ported subwoofer enclosure is a type of enclosure used in car audio systems to enhance the performance of subwoofers. This type of enclosure, also known as a vented or bass reflex enclosure, is designed to improve the low-frequency output of a subwoofer by using a port or vent. Here are some key points related to ported subwoofer enclosures:
Design Purpose: The primary purpose of a ported enclosure is to improve the efficiency and output of a subwoofer in the lower frequency range. It achieves this by utilizing a carefully designed port or vent to reinforce and extend the bass response of the subwoofer.
Port Tuning: The key to a ported enclosure's performance is the tuning of the port. The port's length and diameter are designed to resonate at a specific frequency, typically the subwoofer's resonant frequency (Fs). This resonance helps boost the output in the desired frequency range.
Increased Output: Ported enclosures can deliver more significant low-frequency output compared to sealed enclosures (closed boxes) with the same subwoofer. This increased output is especially noticeable in the lower bass frequencies, making it ideal for applications where deep and powerful bass is desired.
Size Considerations: Ported enclosures are often larger than sealed enclosures due to the need for additional internal volume and the port itself. Therefore, they may not be suitable for all vehicle installations, as they can take up more space in the trunk or cabin.
Sound Quality: While ported enclosures excel at delivering deep bass, they may sacrifice some precision and tightness in the bass response compared to sealed enclosures. The trade-off between output and sound quality is an important consideration when choosing an enclosure type.
Tuning and Construction: Building a ported enclosure requires careful consideration of the subwoofer's specifications, such as Fs, Qts, and Vas, to ensure proper tuning. Constructing a ported enclosure also demands attention to detail, as the dimensions and the quality of materials can significantly affect performance.
Amplification: To power a ported subwoofer enclosure effectively, you'll typically need a dedicated subwoofer amplifier. The amplifier should match the subwoofer's power handling capabilities and be capable of delivering the desired output levels.
Frequency Response: Ported enclosures typically provide a more extended frequency response in the low end compared to sealed enclosures. However, they may have a less linear response and may require equalization or other tuning adjustments to optimize performance.
In summary, ported subwoofer enclosures are popular in car audio systems for their ability to deliver deep and powerful bass output. However, their design requires careful attention to tuning and construction, and they may not be suitable for all vehicle installations due to their larger size. The choice between a ported and sealed enclosure ultimately depends on your specific audio preferences and available space in your vehicle.

User questions & answers
Question: | will this box fit in a 94 firebird in the hatchback |
Answer: | Yes it will fit but not enough air space according to the Rockford Fosgate's website recommended enclosure specs. Looks like they recommend approx 1.40 cu ft. and this box is right around .82 net volume. It'll work but if you really want to get the most out of that P3 I'd go with Crutchfield's Bass Bunker Model BB10-1V (1.20 cu ft) or maybe even the BB10-125V. (1.47 cu ft)- this will help that awesome p3 breathe. I own this E10SV and the BB10-1V and after switching to the Bass Bunker it's made a world of difference for me. I'm running a Sundown SA-10 in that Bass Bunker BB10-1V because Sundown calls for 1.0 to 1.25 cu ft in a ported box. Best decision I've made when it comes to a box. Crutchfield is of course known for their quality. This E10SV is not bad at all and is well built. Especially for the price. I just can't stress enough the importance and the difference it'll make by matching box specs to manufacturer's specs. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How big is the binding post mounting circle on the 10" sealed box? 3" or 4"? I would be replacing it with a better one |
Answer: | No but I have two of these boxes. One with a type r 10 and the other with an RE 10. For both of these setups they are wired down to 1ohm and I highly recommend adding polyfil to the box. I just added to the sides of the box. Gives it a more deeper bass than boomy. The box is tuned to 37 so it makes it sound a bit boomy on certain notes. Adding polyfil sorted that problem out for both boxes. So if you get it, polyfil is a must unless you like the boomy bass |
Question: | Will a 10 in hcca 2 ohm 2000 rms fit |
Answer: | why not measure the space you have and look at the size of the box to determine if it will fit? |
Question: | Can i install my pyle blue wave 10"in.dual voice coil subwoofer in this? is the box deep enough |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this 2cu.ft for each subwoofer |
Answer: | Stupid people shouldn’t answer. Subwoofers need specific air volume. This is way too small for any sub needing 2 cubic feet of air volume. To you saying 1.8: first you can’t include any port volume , secondly, ITS INTERNAL AIR VOLUME. NOT THR DISPLACEMENT OF THE EXTERNAL DIMENSIONS. You can’t multiply the exterior dimensions like of you have. 14x14x1/2 of 32 then divide by 1728. Idiots. Measure the interior dimensions, not the port. These prefabs are tuned ridiculously too high. When you play anything slowed or bassed, your cone will be uncontrollable flop city. Enjoy that. When you blow the sub in less than a month DO watch a YouTube video and build a sun either sealed or tuned to 25Hz. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will a X-12 D2 - Sundown Audio 12" 1250W RMS sub fit in this box |
Answer: | The sub will fit. However the wood itself is pretty thin and the sound isn’t as deep as it could be. Maybe insulting will help?? For the price this box is great |
Question: | two SA-12 inch subs in this box good |
Answer: | I measured my trunk and the box just now and I do not believe it would fit. The box itself is 18"deep. And most trunks cut off the depth at the top. So I would say that I will not fit. |
Question: | How many Cu Ft.is it Per Chamber |
Answer: | You asked for baffle measurements on a ported 15inch subwoofer box, what are you trying to do so that I can assist you.. |
Question: | sealed or vented |
Answer: | It'll definately fit, not sure how much space you'd have left but it'll definately fit |
Question: | Will a planet audio 15” 2100w sub fit in this box? Will it sound good |
Answer: | I had 8ga cable running in this box myself for a long time and it definitely will work but you’ll have trim a fair amount off to get the cable to fit in the exterior terminals because they are 10ga receiving. I’d also recommend removing the terminal cup from the outside of the box and using ring ends on the inside by taking off the 7mm nuts on the back of the push terminals. |
Question: | will this fit in a trunk thats 44 in wide 18 in deep at side and 13 in deep in the middle |
Answer: | No, if you're speaking of the hcca 10's the dual 4's and the dual 2's they both have a cutout of 9.37 . inch this box cutout is much smaller from what other reviewers are saying . I personally wouldn't use this box for that sub for other reasons . however in order for Orion's to mount you need to sand like every one else . idk exactly how much cuz the description doesn't even mention the diameter. But definitely be sanding away . |
Question: | What are the baffle measurements |
Answer: | 3/4” MDF Board |
Question: | will this fit in the trunk of a 2002 saturn sc2?? cant find measurements for trunk |
Answer: | This box is great for subs that are 500 watts or more. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would the box work with the ZVX-12v |
Answer: | The mount depth is really close, I wouldn't get this box for a sundown x12. The x 12 mount depth is 9.67 inches and you have about 10 inches of usable space. You need more space behind the motor than that but you could make a spacer to make it work but that woul be ghetto. Hit up Starr Mountain Sound for a custom box and you will not regret it! His prices are reasonable. |
Question: | will this box fit a DDX 10 inch |
Answer: | Yes. It is made to hold two 12 inch subs. Just like the title says it does. |
Question: | Is this box pre wired |
Answer: | It said 1.32 cu ft in the photos, then in the details says it's 1 cu ft. |
Question: | Will this fit a skar evl |
Answer: | You have to look at the specs of your subwoofer to see if likes a sealed or ported enclosure. All the rest of these comments are BS |
