12 best clarion crossovers

Clarion crossovers are audio components used in car audio systems to divide the audio signal into different frequency ranges and direct those ranges to the appropriate speakers. These crossovers play a crucial role in optimizing sound quality and ensuring that each speaker in the car audio system reproduces the frequencies it is designed for. Here's what you should know about Clarion crossovers:

  1. Frequency Dividing: Clarion crossovers use electronic circuitry to divide the incoming audio signal into different frequency bands. Typically, the signal is separated into low, mid, and high-frequency ranges.

  2. High-Pass and Low-Pass Filters: Crossovers include both high-pass and low-pass filters. High-pass filters allow higher frequencies to pass through while blocking lower frequencies, sending them to speakers like tweeters and midrange drivers. Low-pass filters allow lower frequencies to pass through, sending them to subwoofers or woofers.

  3. Speaker Matching: By directing specific frequency ranges to the appropriate speakers, Clarion crossovers ensure that each speaker is reproducing the frequencies it can handle most effectively. This helps prevent distortion and improves overall sound quality.

  4. Adjustability: Many Clarion crossovers offer adjustable settings, such as cutoff frequencies and slope adjustments. These settings allow users to fine-tune the crossover points to match the specific characteristics of their car audio system and speakers.

  5. Slope Types: Crossovers often include different slope options, such as 12dB/octave or 24dB/octave. The slope determines how quickly the frequencies are attenuated outside the specified range. A steeper slope provides more precise control.

  6. Crossover Types: Clarion offers various crossover types, including passive crossovers and active crossovers. Passive crossovers are typically installed between the amplifier and speakers and are adjusted based on the speaker's specifications. Active crossovers are more flexible and are often found in car audio systems with dedicated amplifiers. They offer greater control over crossover points and slopes.

  7. Bi-Amping: Some Clarion crossovers support bi-amping, a setup where different amplifier channels are used for specific speaker ranges (e.g., one amplifier for tweeters and another for woofers). This allows for even more precise control and tuning.

  8. Installation: Clarion crossovers are typically installed in the car's audio system between the head unit or amplifier and the speakers. Proper installation and adjustment are crucial to achieving optimal sound quality.

  9. Compatibility: When choosing a Clarion crossover, it's essential to ensure compatibility with your car audio system, speakers, and amplifier setup. Additionally, consider the power handling capabilities and impedance matching for the components.

  10. Sound Quality: A well-designed and correctly configured Clarion crossover can significantly enhance the sound quality of your car audio system by reducing distortion and ensuring each speaker operates within its optimal frequency range.

In summary, Clarion crossovers are integral components of car audio systems, responsible for dividing the audio signal into appropriate frequency bands and directing them to the right speakers. Their adjustability and control options allow users to tailor the sound to their preferences and optimize the performance of their car audio setup.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the actual "crossing-over" done with those adjustable restistors used to select the frequency? Are those of equal quality to a fixed crossover
Answer: All I can tell you is I have had this crossover multiple times over the last 15 or so years and this time when I first installed it, it worked just fine for the money but it seems like over time it loses it's ability to do it's job and then it just stops. The highs will just go out and the bass boost and lows will work just fine. I think it is a design flaw that they will never correct because you don't pay them enough money for a really good product I guess. But as long as you just want medium performance this think is ok but it's not the best.
Question: Just I whant now Shipping weight
Answer: Hello, Just to be on the safe side, let's say 7 pounds. Thank you.
Question: May i use this in home studio to send low freq( 20hz-15ohz) to sub, the rest to monitors
Answer: Yes. Just make sure the crossover outputs aren't so high that it causes your amplifier to distort.
Question: Can I connect the speakers directly to this crossover or is an amp required? I'm not looking to rattle anyone's windows
Answer: You will need an amplifier. Preferably an amplifier with RMS power least abilities so the amp will be less. The crossover is an addition to the amplifiers frequency and bass gain! Extremely a game changer when adding it to your amplifier. It can diliver deep bass that is unreachable with just an amplifier alone.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this equalizer support stereo
Answer: Stereo just means a left and right channel as compared to "mono", which means a single channel. So, yes, this EQ does have left and right channels. No, radio or stereo that I know of today has just a single channel, unless it has one speaker.
Question: Where would i find a mounting kit to house this and a single din head unit in a double din opening
Answer: It come with a kit for mounting it to something mines is under my ash trash.
Question: will this run main and aux at the same time because i have a four channel amp and obviously front play diffrent sounds than the rear
Answer: The signal that comes out of your head unit is the same whether it is front or rear (90 percent true). That is why running the two outputs from the head unit to the EQ and then the EQ four outputs to the amp will not change anything. The only sound differential you will have is your fader, tone, treble settings which you can control and adjust with the EQ. NOW THAT BEING SAID. This true for 90 percent of the head units out there. I know my head unit has HPF and LPF filter setting and bass curves for the sub channel. You are losing all those. The only signal signal will be for the two that you hook up to the EQ.
Question: will this fit in a single din dash (2001 chevy silverado) with a deck
Answer: i realize this is an old question but for anyone with a 99-02 silverado, this is for you: you can use a single din head unit with a 1/2 din in dash eq. You simply need to get a dash kit that has single din plus eq. metra used to make one for 1999-2002 silverados but it was discontinued a while ago. the part number is Metra 99-3003. idk if scoche or AI makes or used to make one but i DO know that metra 99-3003 works. you can still find them around the internet. i just bought one for a buddies truck.

User questions & answers

Question: How hard is it to hook up a equalizer to my Kenwood car stereo
Answer: Depends - But I'd imagine that if you are capable of installing the HU then the EQ should be just as easy. Has the 3 typical: power. ground, remote and then the input and output(s) <-- or whatever way you plan on using the EQ. All else fails, go to YouTube and watch one of the many videos. I tried "how to install a car EQ" and it came back with "about 347,000 results" I bought this EQ and am extremely pleased with what I got for the price of this thing. Buy it. figure out to install it. It is worth it
Question: Would this make a huge difference with 4 6.5 mids and 2 tweeters
Answer: It definitely would. Thats exactly what I have
Question: This can be used to take the 2 rca inputs from head unit and make them multiple rca outputs for a 5 channel amp
Answer: Yes, I have 2 AMPs connected to it. I have a 4 channel 1000 watt Rocksford Fosgate AMP pushing the highs and mids to the 6x9s and door speakers. And I have a 8000 watt Power Accoustik AMP pushing the Bass. The 1st knob is independent bass that controls my Power Accoustik AMP. The 2nd Knob is the overall volume. So the answer is Yes. It controls my 4 channel AMP and my Mono AMP at the same time.
Question: Does thing have separate inputs channels for front and rear speakers
Answer: Having trouble with my 4 channel head unit (Alpine) - I have separate front and rear L/R RCA outputs coming from the head - I plugged the front RCA outputs into the "main" which works ok, but no place to plug in the rear output RCA cables....

User questions & answers

Question: How would you wire this to a head unit that has a front, rear and subwoofer channel? Would you only use the front and rear and toss the other set of r
Answer: So with only one input from the head unit does the eq convert it to front and rear sound? What I mean do you loose the rear sound or does it just double and split the front channel?
Question: Does this product light up
Answer: Yes it lights up blue cleaned up my audio very well
Question: Anyone els experiencing a popping noise when you take key out ignition if so any ideas on how i can stop it? I already tried grounding it to radio
Answer: Had the same issue with ankther brand EQ. Problem went away when I switched the positive from the EQ and attached it to the yellow cable straight to battery not the red to ignition. That should fix it.
Question: How would you do the power wire i see theres one in picture with a fuse but isint that to short
Answer: Hello, No the Red wire with fuse holder is not to short. The longer side of the Red wire goes to the Scar SKA7EQ, On Back of the SKA7EQ is the power, ground, and Remote terminal. The Red wire will be extended with a 14awg wire to your power source. Source could be the car battery, or an Accessory fuse circuit of 10 amps 12volts DC current. Extending this red wire is Normal in the audio installation world. The coupling will be needed to successfully butt the two wires together and crimp both sides, if u like install the double red wire size with Heat Shrink Tubbing, then Couple the wires with the "Butt Connector" , slide the heat shrink over it and heat the heat shrink with a Heat Gun, or powerfully hair dryer, then run the Red wire to the Accessory, or Battery positive Red Terminal. The same thing for the ground wire, black wire has no fuse in line so Run from your battery Negative Terminal Black, to the Scar SKA7EQ next to the Red wire, and Tighten it down to the SKA7EQ. The Remote wire is "In the business of Audio Installation" Traditionally Blue, Or Purple, Strip 4mm, or 3/8" and Install it into the Scar SKA7EQ at the R terminal, R stands for "Remote" or "Trigger" this Blue, Or Purple wire goes to your amplifier, and at the amplifier you will see a Positive terminal, a Negative Terminal and the R, "Remote" terminal the Blue or Purple Remote wire tightens onto the amp in the R terminal spot. The wire should be all 14 AWG for this. Wiring your amps u should at least use 4awg for both Power and Ground, Directly to the car/boat/atv Battery. Use small spools of OFC Copper, Red Positive, Black Negative, and Blue/Purple Remote from amazon, You have to have Amplifiers in your system to use the SKA7EQ. Get an Amplifier install kit, plus the three spools of 20ft of 14 AWG Red, Black, Blue from amazon....Good Luck.
