Question:	For initial mounting, can you unscrew the main cable from the back of the camera so that you can fit it from the interior wall going back outside
Answer:	Yes. There are several ways to save and playback recorded videos. I use Blue Iris which is a third party program to manage my cameras. It is not free, but it also is not horribly expensive. I also have Foscam VMS. You can designate where the files are stored on these programs. I also have a memory card in each camera and I save the recordings to the memory card so I have it in two places should someone steal my computer.

Answer:	I have an older model Foscam camera, with the Foscam IOS app you can set a motion detection alarm and/or an audio detection alarm, both have their own sensitivity adjustment. Sound picked up by the camera's microphone, such as a dog barking, will trigger an audio alarm.

Answer:	I am not aware of this flaw, but if you use the foscam cloud to install you’re camera the cloud will have access to your cam. If you use the cloud to load your cam, use a temp. Password to load the cam then change the password as soon as you cam is working.

These cameras support SD card recording, and the browser plugin and mobile app allow simultaneous viewing and management of up to 9 cameras. 2. You are using more than 9 cameras, but don't need to centrally view and manage all of them at once. Answer:	I let it record motion detected to an FTP server, it's pretty straight forward if you know how to connect to an FTP server. It takes a minute or so for the video to be uploaded which is strange because my FTP server is on my own LAN - perhaps it's the processing that takes time. This is how mine is set up:Go under Network->FTP settings:FTP Server: ftp://192.168.1.11/FosCamPort: 21FTP Mode: PASVThen add username and password.I had trouble getting it to work because I never bothered setting the local storage location, but after pointing to a C:/temp even though it would never use this location, it all worked great.
Question:	When will support be added for viewing on Mac desktop browsers other than Safari - specifically Firefox & Chrome
Answer:	As of 12/24/2014, the Foscam camera can't be controlled (or viewed) through Chrome. This is because Google Chrome will not allow installation of CRX files (extensions) from any source other than the Chrome Store (for your protection). Until recently, you could get around this by going into the "developer" mode in Chrome, but Google apparently "fixed" that. I don't know about Firefox, and of course, it works fine with IE.

Answer:	2.4 is still N, unless its right on top of your wireless router or AP 5ghz is useless, since most cheap routers have the same throughput on 5ghz as 2.4 you might as well use 2.4 which has farther range and goes through walls better.

Question:	Can this camera be powered by CAT5 connection
Answer:	Just to clarify because different models appear to be on the same Q&A: Yes, the IP2M-842E can be powered by a CAT5 cable as long as it's connected to a PoE switch. The cable coming out of the camera splits. One is the CAT5 connection and the other looks like a power connection so I assume you can plug power into it directly if you wish if you didn't have a PoE switch but I haven't tested. Sometimes multiple models are put under the same Q&A and Review pages so I assume that's why someone told you no to PoE.

Question:	I am looking to connect it to the home wifi and monitor from office - Does this need a separate WIFI antenna or does it connect to the home wifi as is
Answer:	I found that wireless is very unreliable....it is better to to run ethernet cable to the unit. If you do use wireless, you must first connect the camera directly to the router and set a fixed ip address (you should do this wireless or wired). You will have to specify the port and make sure that you open that port on the router to allow you to connect in from the web. If you do a google search, you will get detailed instructions. I use Blue Iris software and it works very well. Good luck.

Answer:	You only need a public ip to view the camera stream outside of your home network. If you do not want to setup port forwarding you can access the camera inside your network. I love it and it has worked great as my baby monitor.
Question:	can it records when there is motion? how would I save the recording
Answer:	Yes, it can record when there is motion. The preferable way to do this is through third party software. Blue Iris for PCs and Evocam for Macs are video security programs designed to do this and more. They provide a better interface to your camera(s) than using the onboard software and a web browser. They will write the video where ever you wish including dropbox.

Question:	Are there any extra charges for recording? how long will it record? can it be set to record only when motion is detected
Answer:	You can record without paying manually, or on motion using an std card, but I really really reccommend blue iris software which costs ~ 50. It's got a ton of features and is the way to go, especially if you plan on having more than one camera.I'm an electrician who installs these and my own shop has 9 foscams and blue Iris installed on a dedicated computer.
