User questions & answers
Question: | What settings should i use for clicking pictures at night |
Answer: | No, that object would be too large |
Question: | Does this camera come with video in MP4 format |
Answer: | No. It has a pocket in the front where I keep a spare battery and SD card, but there is not room for a charger. My camera is a snug fit and yours is an inch wider, so this case may be too small for you. |
Question: | When I shoot in the sports mode, the monitor goes black. Is that supposed to happen? I only get 7 shots in a sequence. Is there a way to get more |
Answer: | Probably. I use it with a Panasonic zs40 and I am looking at the dimensions of the lx100 on Panasonic's website. The lx100 appears to be about a half-inch thicker, so it would be a snug fit. There is room in the front pocket for an extra battery and sd card, so you only need to put the camera in the main compartment. |
Question: | Raw |
Answer: | My ZS 40 measures 4.4" x 2.5" x 1.4" and it is a real tight fit. The Canon seems to be almost twice as thick and slightly bigger in the other two dimensions, so I would advise against |

User questions & answers
Question: | Which is the biggest sd card supported by nikon coolpix w300? 256gb |
Answer: | The following memory cards have been tested and have been approved for use, by Nikon, for the COOLPIX W300: Sandisk: 4, 8, 16 32, 64, 128 256 and 512GB Toshiba: 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128GB Panasonic: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128GB Lexar Media: 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512GB. |
Question: | What type of memory card must I buy with this camera |
Answer: | "The camera supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. The camera also supports SDHC and SDXC cards compliant with UHS-I. Memory cards with an SD Speed Class rating of 6 or faster are recommended for recording movies (when recording 4K UHD movies an image size/frame rate of 2160/30p or 2160/25p, cards rated UHS Speed Class 3 or faster are recommended). When using a memory card with a lower Speed Class rating, movie recording may stop unexpectedly. If you use a card reader, make sure that it is compatible with your memory card. Contact the manufacturer for information on features, operation, and limitations on use." Quote from the Coolpix W300 Quick Start Guide, Pg. 32, Memory Cards That Can Be Used |
Question: | With the GPS locations, will it attach the gps location information to the pictures saved data |
Answer: | I am amazed that someone incorrectly answered "No" to this question!! The correct answer is: Yes, when "Use built-in location data" in "Location data options" in the location data options menu is set to "On", the W300 camera starts receiving signals from positioning satellites and will embed location data in each image's EXIF metadata. This is the main purpose of having a GPS/GLONASS receiver in a camera! But note that the accuracy of the location data will depend on how many satellites the camera is receiving signals from, and if you are in a place that blocks satellite signals, location data will not be recorded. When the camera is receiving signals, an icon appears on the monitor that indicates how many satellites signals are being received from, and thus how accurate the location data will be. For the most accurate location data, you should wait to take a photo until the monitor indicates that signals are being received from three or more satellites, which in my experience takes a couple of seconds after the camera is turned on. |
Question: | My nikon w 300 is making a weird noise when i shake it , still makes the noise when i remove the battery ?what should i do |
Answer: | This problem seems to keep going on in the Nikon Coolpix cameras. I have had an AW100 that didn't have this problem, then bought an AW 120 and this is when I first heard this noise. Thinking it was something loose inside, I took it back to trade it for another one. After the salesperson and I went through 6 other AW120s, and found that they ALL had the same issue. I took one of the cameras home and contacted Nikon and they said something about this noise in the camera and they were working on fixing this issue. Well, somebody must have dropped the ball because this issue has turned up in the AW130s and now I am reading that this issue is in the NEW W300. Come on Nikon, you have a great camera just figure out this f#$**%g problem and fix it. People who spend 400 bucks on a new camera dont want one that rattles. Fix the dam problem!!!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the insane optical zoom a bit of a gimmick |
Answer: | The Nikon Coolpix 520 has a "Night Mode" option. Just choose the "Scene Selector then choose the "Night Portrait Mode." |
Question: | When will the p900 be available on Amazon |
Answer: | Yes, the camera records in MP4 format, but for more information visit http://techexperience.net/go/nikon/ |
Question: | Does is shoot RAW |
Answer: | The Sports setting is a sub-setting of Scene mode, in which the camera makes most decisions for you and leaves you with limited ability to change the settings. With Sports, the P520 sets itself for continuous shooting in a burst of 7 shots. If you want to have more than 7 shots in a sequence, you would have to use a different shooting mode, such as Program, and then select continuous shooting from the Shooting menu, choosing the L option for up to 30 shots at high quality but lower speed, or one of the super-high-speed options for 60 shots at a very fast speed, but much lower quality. The monitor goes black because there is not enough time to keep refreshing it with the live view during the continuous shooting. |
Question: | Can you live stream with this camera |
Answer: | no raw |

User questions & answers
Question: | I really want a camera that has a "sports" setting or a quick shutter setting. I can't find a list of settings for this camera. Help anyone |
Answer: | If you take a look at the user's manual for this camera (PDF here: http://download3.nikonimglib.com/archive1/Fty6000ImsYi00Dnu9899LDuuN03/S9700RM_(En)02.pdf) on page 32 of the manual (page 56 of the PDF) there's a list of the modes along with descriptions. |
Question: | How do I disable this wretched, noisy pop up flash? I want the default mode to be off. Every time I turn off the camera, it resets to flash AUTO. I am returning the camera if this stupid flash can't be disabled |
Answer: | I brought this camera home and was also annoyed about the flash mechanism. What I started doing was, when I needed the flash, I put thumb about 1/2" over the flash so it would not be quite so noisy. It made a difference to me.I love the camera but using just that LCD display in bright sunlight is a turn off. I returned it for the Nikon P600 but I was not getting the same quality as I was with the S9700. Returning the P600 for the S9700, again, or something equivalent with a view finder (which nowadays is hard to buy). All I can really say on the S9700 is, I was simply amazed and blown away with the speed of taking pix, the focus times, HD video (which the P600 lagged at). |
Question: | Does the camera support a tripod |
Answer: | Yes, it has a standard threaded receptacle on the left underside of the camera. |
Question: | can the gps location be printed out on the picture? I need a camera that I can print the location |
Answer: | I couldn't find anyway to do this. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does wi fi work |
Answer: | Yes the Wi-Fi works but it's a bit different. You need to download the Nikon app on you mobile device, enable Wi-Fi on your camera and provide an SSID, from your mobile device Wi-Fi settings look for camera's SSID and get connected. Then you can use the app to transfer images selectively or all at once. Another good thing is that using app you can remotely take photos so you need not buy a remote. Hope this helps. Will be happy to answer any other question. |
Question: | I have a couple Micro/Macro lenses and tried the AF Macro Nikkor 60mm without success. It works fine with my D300S but just sat there with the D |
Answer: | The D5300 does not have a focus motor, so it will not focus AF-D lenses like your 60mm.The Nikon web site has more info on lens compatibility: http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d5300/compatibility02.htm |
Question: | What is in the box? Does it come with any internal memory/SD card? Lens cover? What kind of cables |
Answer: | This item includes: Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera (Gray) EN-EL14 Lithium-Ion Battery (1030mAh) MH-24 Quick Charger for EN-EL14 Battery EG-CP16 Nikon Audio/Video Cable UC-E17 USB Cable DK-25 Rubber Eyecup AN-DC3 Camera Strap (Gray) DK-5 Eyepiece Shield (Replacement) BF-1B Body Cap BS-1 Hot-Shoe Cover Nikon View NX2 Software CD-ROM Limited 1-Year Warranty |
Question: | What is the big diference to buy D5300 instead the D7100. The 5300 has a 4x procesor and better video. Wifi and Gps included. D7100 $350 more for what |
Answer: | Why the D7100? Auto Focus, the 51 point system inherited from the D4, 15 cross type, focuses down to -2EV, just doesn't go blind in low light, even at night without the AF-Assist light. Focus Tracking (AF-A and D51) tracks much more accurately. Can lock the selected focus point, no more accidental (very annoying) movement by the multi-selector when metering is active. The built-in flash can operate as a wireless commander, saving remote flash users at least one external flash unit. Viewfinder 100% view and sharper. Fast parameter change access with the configurable button controls, two command dials and two mode dials, so almost no trips to the menu system in the field. Can have AF Lock AND AE Lock independent of each other with custom buttons. U1 and U2 modes for instant access to often used (differemt) shooting parameter settings. More (useful) release modes (Q and CH and CL) and right at your fingertips. 2 card slots so you have on camera backup. Shutter to 1/8,000. Internal AF motor, non AF-S lenses work fine. Better built and sealed. You can get the D7100 body for less than $900 at all dealers now. Less on line. Almost all true even for the recently announced D5500 at $899. |

Question: | I have this camera and the battery "meter" is always at 100% until a screen pops up "Battery Depleted." What can I do about this |
Answer: | Same problem - I ended up buying a second battery and a wall charger, so I always have a charged battery on hand and a way to charge the depleted one. Somewhat disappointing. I was excited to find a "bridge" camera that was fairly easy to understand and takes quality photographs, so I've chosen to live with the battery problem rather than try to return it. |
Question: | Can you replace the batteries with alkaline AA batteries if the rechargeable battery goes down |
Answer: | No. The standard battery is a 3.7 v Lithium ion battery pack (a flat battery) and not interchangeable with AA. My experience shows that the standard battery that comes with the camera goes a long time before needing charge. I did buy 2 extra batteries (a little higher capacity) with charger (both ac & dc) for about $20. I also bought a camera bag that holds everything. All through Amazon. |
Question: | Is it possible to manually adjust the focus |
Answer: | Yes it is possible but manual focus is not available in all modes. Also, you don't get a split zoom or anything to help with the focus mechanics. Since you're using just a 3" LCD for the viewfinder, in-focus and out of focus is not always clear. Also difficult to do a fine adjustment on the focus, there's no vernier and each time you change the focus it seems to have a certain minimum amount of adjustment. |
Question: | I'm a beginner, would this be suitable for me |
Answer: | Good for beginners and/or amateurs nothing beyond that. I must say though that you can get very good shots, almost professional quality. |

Question: | The 22X zoom is digital or optical |
Answer: | 22x is Optical and it also has a 4x digital zoom (digital is worthless though as you can do that on your home computer) |
Question: | ARE ADDITIONAL LENSES AVAILABLE |
Answer: | In regards to your inquiry, the lens on this camera is fixed, and there aren't any auxiliary lenses available for this camera. |
Question: | I used the camera for 1 hour taking pictures and then the battery showed me less then half icon. I have Nikon EN-EL12 3.7.V 1050mAh 3.9Wh. Normal |
Answer: | I don't believe that it is. I used mine to video almost the entire Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade and then all of the fireworks after plus lots of pictures taken in the park before and after the parade. I did make sure it was fully charged before I went to Disney but I still had plenty of battery left when I got home. |
Question: | Does this camera have Panorama Mode, and Fish Eye filter effect |
Answer: | It does have fisheye, although I've never tried it. It also has panorama which works pretty well. However, it is a little finicky and often stops prematurely as I'm sweeping the scene. |

Question: | Is the video in this camera a set time limit? i have the nikon coolpix l830 with 34x and love it. any more reasons to get this one |
Answer: | For the most part, yes. 10-15 years ago, the buzz word was "megapixel." Manufacturers would increase that because that is what the ignorant masses thought made a camera good. And it was much cheaper to increase the megapixel while throwing in inferior sensors and lenses. But the masses would still go for those over cameras that had fewer megapixels but were VASTLY superior due to their better lenses and sensors. The mid-10s have zoom. Now they fool the ignorant masses into thinking that 50-100 zoom lenses with terrible sensors is better than 25-40x zoom with better sensors. They aren't. |
Question: | Any major differences between this camera and the P |
Answer: | Amazon just dropped it $110 for Black Friday. couldn't help myself.. I need it like I need a hole in the head but I just bought it anyway for $489!! of course I had to pay sales tax ;( |
Question: | Does the p610 have the snap-back feature that the p900 has |
Answer: | Canon users have CHDK to add .raw and other features to point and shoot cameras. Is there anything similar for Nikon? |
Question: | I am a novice photographer but need camera with good zoom for African trip. P600 or P |
Answer: | I looked into the Menu for video and saw no provision for live streaming. There was nothing about it in the Menu for wifi. So, I don't know. For more information visit http://techexperience.net/go/nikon/ |

Question: | can someon tell me more about how the GPS feature is used? with the jpeg on my laptop how would I use the fact that the jpeg is "tagged" with GPS for |
Answer: | If you record at same speed as the action is occurring, then the only limit is the size/capacity of your SD memory card. If you record in slow motion or speeded up formats, namely at 1/4, 1/2, or 2x normal speed, then there are limits to the recording length. 1/4 speed slow motion max. recording length is 7 min. 15 sec. 1/2 speed slow motion max. length is 14 min. 30 sec. If you record at 2X the normal speed, the max recording length is 29 minutes, which by the way, plays back in 14 min. 30 seconds. If you are optical zoom lens junkie, you will love the 60X optical zoom. I photograph birds and dragonflies, so the 1440 mm equivalent lens length represented by the 60X optical zoom is fantastic for those subjects. |
Question: | Can you use the WIFI feature to send photos to a Windows PC (instead of transferring the photos by USB cable connection |
Answer: | http://cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-Coolpix-P600-vs-Nikon-Coolpix-P610 |
Question: | Is there a lag between hitting the shutter button and when it takes the picture? I have had several digitalis that did this |
Answer: | I do not know about the p900, but I love my p610.. |
Question: | What is the battery life? How is the battery charged |
Answer: | The P600 is last year's model and the P610 is the latest. I waited for the P610 because it has a digital viewfinder, an updated software platform and a more sensitive CMOS element. They both have the outrageous 60X zoom and WIFI, etc. You can save about $100.00 by buying the P600 but I like my P610 a lot so I feel its still a good bargain thru Amazon. If you want drop dead zoom capabilities, get the Nikon P900 with over 80X zoom for another $100. It wasn't available when I was shopping but it is now. |

Question: | Is the GPS feature usable to look up directions and maps? also is the wifi usable for general internet usage |
Answer: | No, and No! The GPS feature here embeds location info into the image data, and will also let you know about places in the area, but will not give you directions. The WiFi is used to transfer photos off of the camera and onto your smart phone, or your home computer. |
Question: | Does it float by itself or do you have to have the wrist strap |
Answer: | Just a heads up the floatie wrist strap recommended for this thing SUCKS. Absolutely sucks. I just lost my camera bc it has such a bad connection that the floatie stayed totally intact but the camera loop disconnected. Make sure you add on something much sturdier. I am buying a new camera to replace one lost and will not make the same mistake of thinking this time I have a floatie so now I won't see it disappear under the rapids. The camera itself sinks like a ROCK. You would think they could develop a neoprene cover that actually is boyant itself for those of us who will not use this to dive and don't need it to not want to pop to the surface. This is the second 300+ camera I lose from this brand to this same issue. The camera itself is excellent and easy to spot bc they make it in orange |
Question: | does it have a easy to capturePanorama Mode |
Answer: | yes, it can put the pictures together very easily. it does a really nice job |
Question: | What's the battery run time for this camera |
Answer: | It's plently, but the GPS tends to empty the battery faster. For more information you can go to http://techexperience.net/go/nikon/ |
