14 best rokinon dslr lenses

Rokinon, also known as Samyang, is a well-known brand in the photography industry, particularly for its DSLR lenses. Here is some information about Rokinon DSLR lenses:

  1. Manual Focus: Many Rokinon lenses are manual focus, which means you have to adjust the focus ring on the lens yourself, as opposed to relying on autofocus mechanisms.

  2. Prime and Wide-Angle Lenses: Rokinon is known for producing a range of prime lenses (fixed focal length) and wide-angle lenses. These are popular among photographers who prioritize image quality and sharpness.

  3. Aperture Control: Rokinon lenses often have a manual aperture ring. This allows for precise control over the amount of light entering the camera, giving photographers creative control over depth of field and exposure settings.

  4. High Optical Quality: Rokinon lenses are generally known for their good optical quality, providing sharp and clear images. They are often used for various genres of photography, including landscape, portrait, and astrophotography.

  5. Affordable Pricing: Rokinon lenses are often more budget-friendly compared to some of the high-end lens brands. This makes them a popular choice for amateur photographers and enthusiasts looking for quality without breaking the bank.

  6. Compatibility: Rokinon lenses are available for various camera mounts, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, and others. This means they can be used with a wide range of DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

  7. Specialized Lenses: Rokinon offers specialized lenses, such as fisheye and tilt-shift lenses, which cater to specific creative needs. These lenses can enable photographers to achieve unique and distinctive effects in their images.

  8. Construction and Build Quality: Rokinon lenses are generally well-built, often featuring metal construction and durable components. This contributes to their longevity and robustness, even in demanding shooting conditions.

  9. Lens Coatings: Some Rokinon lenses come with multi-coating technology, which helps reduce lens flare and ghosting, leading to improved image contrast and clarity, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

  10. Third-Party Lens Manufacturer: Rokinon is considered a third-party lens manufacturer, meaning they are not affiliated with any specific camera brand. This allows them to produce lenses that are compatible with a wide variety of camera bodies.

It's important to note that while Rokinon lenses offer excellent value for their price, like any brand, there can be variations in performance between different models and individual copies. Therefore, it's a good idea to read reviews and, if possible, try out a lens before making a purchase.

Rokinon

Based on 204 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This is Rokinon's newest fisheye lens for Nikon. It features some great new features that are not available on Rokinon's first highly rated 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens. Optics and glass are high definition (HD) with very clear & sharp images. This lens also features a removable hood which will make it easier for use on full frame cameras. While this lens is designed for APS-C sensors, full frame users can now use it without the hood. On APS-C cameras like the Nikon D5100/D3200/D3100, the pictures will fill the entire frame or screen. On full frame cameras like the Nikon D4 & D800, the lens will produce pictures with a semi-circular image and close images will appear proportionately large for a dramatic effect.

  • Manual focus; Aperture range of F3.5-23
  • 11 Elements in 7 groups (1 spherical lens); minimum focusing distance of 1-Feet (12-Inch)
  • Features built-in auto aperture and auto exposure chip for auto metering with your camera (only available for Nikon mount)
  • Ultra-wide 167º diagonal field-of-view for APS-C size image formats will produce a rounded image that doesn't cover the entire frame when used with compatible full frame digital cameras or 35mm film cameras

User questions & answers

Question: will this generate a full circular image of a hemisphere on a Nikon D
Answer: No it does not include the "Ten (10) Rainbow Film Sheets" as listed "Inside the box". It does, however, include two CR2 Batteries, that are not listed. Inside the Box: Fujifilm instax mini 70 Instant Camera Ten (10) Rainbow Film Sheets Wrist strap User guide
Question: What is the difference between this model and the rokinon ae8m-n, besides the price
Answer: I have used both. TL;DR: Mini90 has (slightly) more exposure control if you, but REQUIRES manually tinkering to get "nice" snapshots. Mini70 hat takes better-exposed CASUAL photos WITHOUT TINKERING. i "upgraded" to a Mini70 because it fits my intended purpose of taking clear quick snapshots, and I don't need to press buttons to set it up if my friends want to pick it up and snap a picture when we're celebrating or playing. read on for more details... SUMMARY: I am an avid amateur photographer (i use a canon full frame dSLR and a bunch of lenses and flashes for my hobby), but when i use my instax i just want to point and shoot selfies with friends and at parties and take snapshots. The Mini70 is a better pick-up-and-shoot camera by far. If i want to be "creative" i'll use my compact digicam or my dSLR DIFFERENCE: the Mini 90 has more exposure modes, but you need to fiddle with the settings more. The manual settings are VERY rudimentary on the Mini90 (brighten/darken, flash on/off, etc...), and aren't very satisfying when i truly want to control what the shutter is doing. The Mini70 is smarter at being "automatic" and has slightly fewer settings. NOTE: the buttons on these cameras are small, flat, poorly marked, non-backlit, and the LCD display is small and really only for daytime use. absolutely TERRIBLE from an ergonomic standpoint. EXAMPLE: Mini90 nighttime / selfie pics turn out with overexposed foregrounds and dim backgrounds (unless you remember to press a special mode button for nighttime shots). Mini70 AUTOMATICALLY tones down the flash so the the foreground less washed out, and exposes the background better so it isn't black.
Question: is there much difference in quality between this and the HD version
Answer: The Mini 70 is an upgrade over the Mini 9. The Mini 9 has no timer, LCD readout or tripod mount. The Mini 70 also uses 2 CR2 batteries which last about 300 photos vs. the Mini 9 which lasts about 100 photos on two (2) AA. Downside is CR2 batteries are expensive to buy in the store, where the AA you can find anywhere. Online CR2 is about $2.25 a piece. Also I would say the Mini 70 has a slightly better build quality then Mini 9. Hope this helps. Prime Lens Advantages

Prime lenses are typically sharper, lighter, and can work in lower lighting conditions than zoom lenses.

Less compromises are involved when a lens can be designed for optimal performance for a specific focal length.

They don't have to overcome all of the additional problems encountered with the extra glass and mechanics required to zoom.

With their typically faster (wider) maximum apertures and fewer lens elements, primes can also gather and pass through more light.

As a result, even in poor lighting conditions, you can generally get better quality images and videos.

Additionally, due to their smaller size and weight, they are perfect for travel, and stealthy street shooting.

User questions & answers

Question: I know they are the same but i will get samyang or rokinon product? described pictures shows both brands
Answer: The only difference that I'm aware of is that with the newer model, the lens hood is removable so that the lens will work as a circular fisheye on an FX body. The lens works quite well for the money, very pleased with it.
Question: I have the sony alpha A6000, will this lens work with it, or do I need to buy a compatible part
Answer: All the same. HD just means Hood Detachable. No difference in specs.
Question: is this native to the emount(nex)? or will it need an adapter? Or does it come with an adapter
Answer: There's some models that you can attach in front of the camera (not like the common and cheap circular filters), and use those square filters. You can buy a complete kit like the Formatt-Hitech 165x165mm (6.5"x6.5") Firecrest ND Long Exposure Filter Kit (http://www.amazon.com/Formatt-Hitech-165x165mm-Firecrest-Tjintjelaar-Signature/dp/B00RJZMCA0?ie=UTF8&keywords=neutral%20density%20filter%20for%208mm%20lens&qid=1460135869&ref_=sr_1_10&sr=8-10) or separately itens, like the NiSi 180X210mm Square Graduated Neutral Density Filter (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B017GZVXMA?psc=1) (no support to attach the filter at the camera included in this one). But there's a lot of other brands and prices and this two are just examples to demonstrate the type of filter that you need to use in this kind of lens. Hope it helps. Regards.

User questions & answers

Question: does it work with d
Answer: Yes! It’s manual focus so I suggest using your led screen and led zoom function to get sharp focus of a star or planet. Screen mode or whatever it might be called on your camera. I’ve had good results and astrophotography is what I bought this lens for specifically.
Question: does this lens have auto chip
Answer: Sure it will fit the Rebel T3 - keep in mind that this is a manual focus lens, but a very sharp lens
Question: Is this lens appropriate for video? We are looking for a good cinematic lens
Answer: I just got this lens for astrophotography and decided to see if I could find where it focuses the sharpest when capturing stars. I took a series of shots with the focus set as far into infinity as it could go, then I backed it off about 1mm for each shot (at ~30 seconds shutter speed) while the focus ring was inside the infinity line. After reviewing the shots in Lightroom, I honestly can't see much of a difference in sharpness between the shots. The scene included a well lit object about 1 mile away and a generous portion of the Milky Way as well as Sirius and Canopus, and even zoomed in all the way, the stars and the lit object have about the same amount of sharpness through the series of images. I plan on duplicating this setup but at a shorter shutter speed to see if I can spot a difference, but so far it seems sharp in the whole "infinity" range. This blows my Canon 28mm f/1.8 out of the water completely for astrophotography (at a savings of ~$200). The Canon is fairly useless over f/2.8 anyway because you get a ton of coma around the edges of the image, so the wider aperture doesn't help. The Rokinon has no noticeable coma at the edges at f/2.8 either.
Question: Can anyone tell me why this would not be an optimum lens for video as mentioned in responses to other questions on this product
Answer: I use a D5100 that has a an APS-C sensor similar to the D90 and the Rokinon 8mm fisheye lens doesn't create a circular image; the image completely fills the frame. This lens will create a circular image only on a full-frame sensor camera like the Nikon D3S or D800.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work on the t4i
Answer: The shutter speed is a camera function not a lens function. Change the shutter speed as you would with any Canon lens but don't expect full automatic operation of exposure. I generally shoot at 60fps so I set my shutter speed to 1/125th and use the aperture of the lens to correct the exposure. Sometimes, in order to keep the relationship between shutter speed, fps and desired aperture we must use neutral density on the lens to drop the light down.
Question: If i fit it on a D750 that has internal focusing on the body will it AF
Answer: You can. I've seen Canon Lens to Sony Body adapters starting as low as $50. You would have to look at the specifics of mount types to ensure you get the right adapter. https://www.amazon.com/slp/sony-canon-adapter/54jrdgw5wve4y3z
Question: Does it work with the Nikon D
Answer: The right filter size for Rokinon Cine CV35-C35mm T1.5 is 77mm .
Question: Will this work with a Sony a7s full frame and mirrorless
Answer: yes it does Regards Steve 1-800-221-2253

Question: Will this lens fit the black magic pocket cinema 4k camera
Answer: Well, I recently purchased this to try astrophotography, but I still haven't travel to a dark enough place, so my results aren't the best yet... Meanwhile I enjoy to shoot landscapes and I like the fact I don't see any dramatic distortion maybe because of the crop sensor in the 70D... I'm looking for new ways to use it inspired by the Gene Ho's youtube video "the art of the fisheye" He uses it in wedding photography with great results, so I think we must not be intimidated about the distortion if we find creative ways to use it...
Question: Does it transmit focus data to sony a7sii to allow focus assist on viewfinder
Answer: Technically yes it will work on your D800, since Nikon will allow the use of crop lenses on a full frame camera. You would need to shoot in crop mode though, or at the very least be prepared to crop your images in post, since this is a lens made for smaller sensors. It's not a true 10mm, as the optics are too small to fill your FF sensor. I would personally suggest the 14mm F2.8 instead, as that is made for FF sensors. Also, I think the smallest aperture is F22.
Question: Will this lens work on a canon 70D, 60D and/or T4i
Answer: This lens is available in several different mounts--you should order one with a "Canon" mount.
Question: I am very concerned about breaking the mount point on the camera body. Does anyone have recommendations for a tripod collar? (No bean bag reco pleas
Answer: Will work perfectly.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this lens or the Sony 50mm F1.8, better for portraiture? (I use a Sony A
Answer: It works perfectly for my D750 with enabled AE chip Nikon version. I can control Aperture from F2.8, 3.2, 3.5, 4.0, all the way to F22 in M/A/S mode by using command dial. Simply setup the Aperture to F22, then D750 will take care of it. Focus Confirmation works fine thru view finder and Live View mode as well even it was not AF.
Question: Will it work with the a7s
Answer: I have the Rokinon 12mm lens and use it on my Nikon D750 which is a full frame camera. I also have a Nikon D7000. The Rokinon will mount on the D7000 (it should as well with the D7100), but you will be losing 6mm in the process with the 1.5 (crop factor) difference between full frame (FX} and the D7100's DX-sized frame. That turns the 12mm Rokinon into a 18mm lens. Still wide angle, but not super-wide.
Question: What would be better for portraits, this, or the Rokinon 50mm f1.2? Is the 1.2 that big of a difference over the 1.4? Its a little pricey, advice
Answer: Yes, this will work on the the A7S and any E-mount mirrorless Sony camera.
Question: I have the lens open to f1.4, but i cannot seem to get "great" bokeh in my portrait work. any tips? i know its not the lens, i just dont understand
Answer: Yes, I have used it successfully with a GH4. It is Manual focus only (and you have to set "Shoot w/o Lens" to ON)

User questions & answers

Question: I thought this would give me full resolution with a7ii (6000x4000). I'm still getting 55%. Am I misunderstanding what full frame means
Answer: Yes it does work with your camera.Regards Steve 1-800-221-2253
Question: What's the difference between the Samyang and the Rokinon versions
Answer: The advantage of the 50mm f1.2 (if you own an e-mount camera) is that this lens is made for aps-c sensors, therefore there will be no cropping of the original frame. It's not a big difference, though. I recently bought this 50 mm f1.4 lens for my sony a6000, and since it's a lens made for full frame cameras, it sort of becomes a 75mm. If you don't mind that, then you'll have no problem with this lens. As for the f stop, f1.4 is already great, it's not such a big difference in this matter.
Question: Is this a manual focus lens
Answer: The secret to maximizing bokeh is to shoot wide open at the minimum focal distance with a full frame camera. It also helps to separate your focal object from the background; the further the better. Good luck!
Question: How does this lens compare to the sony fe 90 mm f/2.8 standard-prime lens for $1,098? thank you
Answer: yes if adapted.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have auto focus
Answer: You're going to want the Sony branded one to take full advantage of the a6000, specifically the eye auto focus that's going to save you loads of time getting a perfect portrait. The Rokinon is a manual focus full-frame lens that's big and heavy, but a contender against other full-frame lenses for sharpness, and as fun as manuals are, you'll just be wasting too much time for portraits.

Unified Aperture Gears

Cine DS Lenses have unified focus and aperture gear positions for reduced follow focus system adjustments and for faster lens changes. Dual calibrated right and left side distance and T-stop scales enable an assistant to pull focus and aperture from either side of the lens.

Ultra Wide Videography

With a 180 Degree field of view you will be able to shoot and capture more in the frame for stunning images and video.

Cinematic Quality

This Cine DS 12mm T3.1 Lens delivers and clear and sharp video quality, tight color matching and exact focusing that professional quality for the avid Cinematographer.

Lens Construction

The Rokinon Cine DS 12mm T3.1 Lens for Sony is constructed of 14 high performance glass elements in 9 groups of which, 3 Extra Low Dispresion (ED), 2 are Aspherical (ASP) & 1 are Nano Coating System (NCS). All of its elements are Ultra Multi-Coated (UMC).

Prime Lenses

Question: Would anyone recommend this lens for filming skateboarding using a Nikon D5200? Thanks
Answer: No. The aperture has to be changed from the aperture ring on the LENS body. Also, the aperture will read 0.0 on the Canon body, unless you purchase and install an aftermarket focus confirm chip. With the chip installed, the Canon camera body will always display 1.4, even though you may have changed the aperture from the lens.
Question: Do these lenses need an adapter? like the metabones booster for the Gh4? or can it be used by itself? also is this manual lens? im noobie thanks
Answer: This lens has no autofocus capability whatsoever, it's totally manual focus. Although if you get the "chipped" version of this lens, all of the other electronic exposure functions work.
Question: Hoping to use this lens on my lumix dmc g1. The lens screws on fine, but I get a message "check that lens is attached correctly." anyone know why
Answer: Yes - I use it with my D600 which is a full frame camera. It's an awesome lens.
Question: I'm noticing a tiny "grinding/gear" sound when focusing, anyone else have this? Not an issue, just curious
Answer: The Rokinon 85mm lens requires manual focus. The automatic chip on the Rokinon 85mm lets you know if your lens is focused properly. When properly focused, a small dot lots up. For me, the extra $25 I paid for a Rokinon 85mm with a chip was worth it, particularly when trying to focus in a dark environment, where it often is not clear whether the image is focused when simply moving the focusing ring.

It features a very fast maximum aperture of T1.5 and an 8 blade iris, for shallow depth of field with attractive bokeh. The focus and aperture control rings are outfitted with industry standard gearing, which provides an interface for working with a traditional follow focus. The aperture control ring has also been "declicked", which facilitates smooth iris pulls.

User questions & answers

Question: Can someone please confirm that this will work on A
Answer: The lens is full frame and that means that your "full frame" sensor will pick up full resolution. You should check your camera settings and make sure you have it set to the finest JPG setting possible or simply use the RAW setting which will always be full resolution. The lens works just fine as I have been using it for some time now on an A7RII. Good luck.
Question: what the difference between this and RK8MS-E
Answer: They are the exact same lens.
Question: Do I need an adapter to get this lens to work on a Sony Nex f
Answer: Yes it is a manual focus lens Regards Steve 1-800-221-2253
Question: Anyone have concrete info on differences between version 1 and version II? Worth getting v2 even if significant price premium
Answer: THIS LENS IS SHARPER.Regards Steve 1-800-221-2253
