14 best nikon dslr lenses

Nikon, like many other camera manufacturers, offers cameras with image stabilization technology to reduce the effects of camera shake and produce sharper images. Nikon's anti-shake technology is often referred to as "Vibration Reduction" (VR) in their lens and camera systems. Here are some key points about Nikon's anti-shake technology and its use in digital cameras:

  1. Vibration Reduction (VR): Nikon's VR technology is designed to compensate for camera shake, which can occur when shooting handheld or in low-light conditions. It helps to stabilize the image and reduce blurriness caused by unsteady hands.

  2. In-Lens and In-Camera Systems: Nikon incorporates VR technology into both its camera bodies and select lenses. Some Nikon cameras have in-body image stabilization (IBIS), while others rely on VR-enabled lenses for stabilization. The combination of both can provide even better results.

  3. VR Modes: Nikon typically offers different VR modes, such as Normal, Active, and Sport. Normal mode is suitable for most situations, Active mode is designed for more extreme motion (e.g., shooting from a moving vehicle), and Sport mode is ideal for capturing fast-paced action while panning.

  4. Compatibility: Not all Nikon lenses have VR technology, so it's important to check whether a lens is VR-enabled if you want to take advantage of this feature.Additionally, not all Nikon camera models have in-body image stabilization, so compatibility may vary.

  5. Advantages: Nikon's anti-shake technology can be particularly beneficial when shooting at slower shutter speeds, using telephoto lenses, or capturing handheld video footage. It allows photographers to achieve sharper images and smoother videos in challenging conditions.

  6. Underwater Photography: While Nikon doesn't specialize in underwater cameras, some of their DSLR and mirrorless camera models can be used for underwater photography when paired with appropriate underwater housing. The use of VR technology can be especially helpful in reducing the impact of water movement.

  7. Electronics: Nikon's anti-shake technology relies on electronic sensors and gyroscopes to detect and counteract camera shake. These sensors are integrated into the camera or lens and work in real-time to stabilize the image.

Nikon continues to innovate and improve its anti-shake technology with each new camera and lens release, providing photographers with tools to capture high-quality images and videos in a variety of conditions. When considering a Nikon camera for your specific photography needs, be sure to check the compatibility of the camera body and lens to ensure you can take advantage of their VR capabilities.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with NO PROBLEM AT ALL in a D7000? I read that the autofocus dosn't work in a D
Answer: Yes, it will. The D7000 has a focus feeler that allows it to focus older "AF" lenses. I have an old AF 28-105 and autofocus works flawlessly.
Question: Is this compaible with the Nikon D40X
Answer: It will work, and all in all work as well as most manual focus lenses, better than some, since the d40x will meter correctly. It will however NOT autofocus. If manual focusing is your cup of tea, have at it, as the focal length will be fine for portraits and it is affordable.
Question: Is this lens compatible with Nikon D
Answer: Yes, it's compatible. But you won't get the autofocus feature. You will need an AF-S lens.
Question: I am a newbie with a d5100. I don't understand how some reviews say it is autofocus, & some say it is not
Answer: The D5100 only autofocuses with the latest AF-S lens, and also older professional AF-I lens. Briefly, AF-S lens have a built-in motor to drive the focusing mechanisms on the lens, whereas AF lens rely on the motor in the camera body (like the D90 or the D7000). Most traditional screw-drive AF lenses will not autofocus on the D5100, but will autofocus on the D90/D7000. Lens that say "AF-S," will autofocus with the d5100, and most lenses sold today for the D5100 are AF-S. The D5100 has no internal autofocus motor, so it will not autofocus with original-style screw-drive AF lenses. This is why some lens will autofocus with the D5100, and some won't.

Product features

Your DSLR’s Best Friend

A must-have for standard portraits and everyday use, the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D is a lens that will absolutely surprise you. The 50mm focal length (75mm equivalent on DX format cameras) with a fast f/1.8 aperture allows you to capture stunning images with a shallow depth-of-field, letting your subjects stand out from their backgrounds. The AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D may soon become your new favorite lens.

Brilliance In Any Light Get Astonishing Low Light Results

This lightweight standard lens is a great travel companion because you never know when a beautiful, sunny day will turn cloudy and rainy. With its fast f/1.8 aperture, the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance.

Beautiful Background Blur Achieve More Natural Depth Of Field

Whether you're shooting portraits, food or nature—indoors or outdoors—the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings. And its 50mm focal length is perfect for creating natural perspective in your photographs.

Capture Every Detail Shoot Tack-Sharp Portraits Every Time

Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare, while the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D's Aspherical Lens Element (AS) virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberrations, even when shooting at the widest available aperture. Pair that with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast, accurate and quiet autofocus, and you can be sure all of your portraits will be tack sharp.

Silent Wave Motor

AF NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts 'traveling waves' into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.

M/A

Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.

Aspherical Lens

A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.

Super Integrated Coating

Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

Optical Conversion Factor: 1.5x. The world is full of amazing views—some right in front of us, others far in the distance. Capture all of them beautifully with a single lens, the outstanding all-in-one telephoto zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR. Surprisingly compact and lightweight for a 16.7x zoom lens, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR draws great performance from Nikon DX-format D-SLRs and is a highly versatile second lens. Shoot wide-angle scenic landscapes and group photos, portraits with softly blurred backgrounds, super-telephoto close-ups and everything in between—if you can see it, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR can capture it. Optimized for shooting both stills and HD videos, it features specialized Vibration Reduction technology for tack-sharp photos and steady videos, even when your hands are a bit shaky. And since it's a NIKKOR, it features some of the best optics available. Whether you're looking for maximum versatility in a lens or you're just the kind of photographer who finds inspiration all around, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR will help you capture more of life's great views. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR can do just about anything—stills, videos, landscapes, interiors, portraits, wildlife...you name it. Its massive zoom range goes from wide-angle (27mm equivalent in 35mm) all the way to super-telephoto (450mm equivalent in 35mm), so you can catch stunning close-ups of concert performers and athletes as easily as wide scenic shots. Its compact, balanced design and Vibration Reduction technology help keep photos sharp and videos steady, and the lens' fast, quiet autofocus system minimizes camera noise during video recording. A little camera shake can ruin an otherwise great photos or video, especially when shooting at super-telephoto distances. To combat camera shake, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR features Nikon's Vibration Reduction technology, which provides 4.0 stops* of blur-free handheld shooting. Capture crisp, clear photos and steady videos even if your hands are a bit unsteady. Additionally, VR is a big advantage in low-light situations—slow down your shutter speed without compromising sharpness. Like all renowned NIKKOR lenses, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR delivers stunning image quality—vibrant color, sharp detail, and minimal distortion. To enhance that superb optical performance and increase its versatility as both a photo and video lens, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR includes Nikon's advanced lens technologies like Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for ultra-fast, near-silent autofocusing, three Aspherical (AS) and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements for maximum contrast and minimal lens flare and ghosting, a rounded 7-blade diaphragm for beautiful, natural background blur and Internal Focusing (IF) for a more compact, streamlined lens design.

User questions & answers

Question: Why is there such a big price difference in this lens? Some are $696 some $999 and in between. What gives
Answer: The more expensive lens is about 10 ounces heavier (!), and inch longer and has a wider diameter which you will see if you pull up the specs side by side on nikonusa.com. There are a few other differences like more diaphragm blades and a smaller minimum aperture. I am mostly happy with the less expensive model, but you might want to check out the Nikon P900 if you are shopping for a new camera and don't absolutely need a dslr.
Question: What is the difference between this new lens and the old 18-300 one? please be specific
Answer: Cheaper and lighter, but slower at the long end of the zoom when compared to the older Nikon 18-300. Lighter than my old Nikon 18-200 VR. A well worthwhile upgrade, for me that is.
Question: Will this lens work on a Nikon D
Answer: Nikon's 18-300mm is PERFECT for the D3200 & all DX SLR's from Nikon. It has a great range! Thanks - Service Photo in Baltimore.
Question: Which lens hood is compatible with this lens
Answer: This lens accepts the Nikon HB-39 hood.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this lens auto focus for a Nikon D
Answer: No it does not. It's a prime lens meaning there's only one mm length (50 mm). If it zoomed, you would see for instance (72mm-200mm)
Question: Will this fit nikon d
Answer: Yes they do.
Question: This fit for nikon d
Answer: There is an option on the amazon page before you buy the lens that matches what cameras it fits.Check to see if the Nikon 7200 is listed.
Question: I am new to the dslr world, so this may sound silly....i just bought the nikon d3400, this should work for my camera right? it has the auto focus
Answer: No
Question: Does this lense zoom
Answer: Si
Question: I understand that autofocus doesn't work on the lower-end cameras like the D-3200...but does the shutter speed and aperature still work automatically
Answer: Short answer yes. Long answer: It's a zoom lens, wide angle and telephoto all in one. Also has a crop factor. For example, Nikon’s “DX” cameras have a crop factor of 1.5x, so if you take a 18mm wide angle lens and multiply it by this number, the result is 27mm. This basically means that the 18mm lens on the crop sensor DX camera would behave more like a 27mm lens on a full-frame camera in terms of field of view. Likewise the 140mm is really a 210mm.
Question: Does this work with the Nikon D
Answer: Yes it will. I still own this lens which is my primary lens. I started out with it on a D3500. Works very well with that camera. It’s bigger than the camera but works great.
Question: Does D100 support AF on this lens
Answer: A Nikon certified product should come in a plain box so labeled, and as mentioned, include a card from Nikon with its serial number stating the 90 day warranty. My lens was bubble wrapped, in a well fitted plastic bag. Without the card from Nikon, my gut would be thinking used, or almost even worse, gray market... Nikon USA will not even touch a GM product. Good luck.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this compatible with canon rebel T1i
Answer: It comes with a lens cap, soft draw-string case, and a high-quality petal-style hood. Very nice. BTW, best lens I've ever owned...by far.
Question: Does it work with canon rebel t7i
Answer: This is a prime 55mm lens it doesn't zoom. It is a fixed focal length. It is 55mm on the full farm A7 & A7R and the equivalent of approximately an 82mm on an APS-C sensor camera.
Question: Is this the lens Sigma released in Oct. 2014 or a prior model? How can Goja bundle all this stuff when others sell just the lens for this price
Answer: It says on box "made in Thailand". This is my second Zeiss. I still own the SEL24F18, both are built to extremely high standard, no flex at all. The only sub par component of the older Zeiss was the petal hood that fell apart in less than a year, I had to superglue it back together. The older lens has seen hell and still going strong after 3 years of heavy use. I tell you all this cos I was worried too, but when you see the images you get from the lens, wow! Also, unlike the other E mount Zeiss, I have not read about a single bad copy of the lens. Hope this helps
Question: How does this compare to the oem nikon 18-300mm
Answer: In general, don't use the clear UV filter with this lens. It will degrade the image quality. If you care so little about the image quality, you should not get this lens. Get the SEL50F18F and save hundreds of dollars. If you must use an UV filter, do not use the cheap Tiffen UV filter offered in a bundle. Use a Heliopan, or a Zeiss, or at the very least a B&W.

User questions & answers

Question: would it work on D
Answer: Hi Friend, our YN50mm F1.8N is compatible with Nikon D3200.
Question: Does this work for a Nikon d
Answer: yes you can
Question: Hello, is this lens compatible with a Nikon d
Answer: pls Make sure your focus mode is set to MF (manual focus) not auto focus mode. Not just the lens but the camera itself. if your shutter speed is too fast, it will come out dark or black. since this is an f8.3, it lets in less light compared to something that is an f4 or f3.5.You will have to control the amount of light that is coming into the lens by moving the comand dial and letting in more light. You will see on the display to the left it will open and close as you move the dial. It is a lot of trial and error. There is also great how to's on line.
Question: Hello, is this lens compatible with a Nikon DX
Answer: You will need to use a tripod or rest the lens on something solid to avoid blur except in bright light with a very, very fast shutter. Good luck for you.

Enter the AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR—an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that's ideal for sprawling landscapes and cityscapes, architecture, interiors or just beautiful group photos. Its near-silent autofocusing and Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization make it a great choice for recording video, and its compact, lightweight design makes it a great travel companion. See what you've been missing with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR.

Life from a New Perspective

Ultra-wide-angle Views and Close Focusing.

With an ultra-wide-angle view that surpasses any kit lens, the AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR lets you play with composition in a new way—foreground, middle ground, background, symmetry, patterns, lines, dramatic skies and more. Get as close as 0.8 feet from your subject to create photos and videos with dramatic leading lines or to capture tight interior spaces with ease.

Small in Size, Big in Quality

Despite its super compact, lightweight design, the AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR delivers huge performance. Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization ensures sharper handheld photos and videos and lets you use a slower shutter speed for brighter photos in low light. Three Aspherical (AS) Lens Elements nearly eliminates naturally occurring distortion and contributes to the lens' lightweight, compact design. Super Integrated Coating (SIC) cuts through ghosting and lens flare in backlit or cross-lit situations; retains maximum color and contrast. A 7-blade aperture design gives your photo and video backgrounds a beautifully soft, round blurring effect.

Do Not Disturb

Near-silent, Fast Autofocus Stepping Motor.

The AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR focuses like a dream. When shooting video, its smooth stepping motor keeps focusing noise to a minimum. If you need to make adjustments, you’ll appreciate the silky smooth manual operation. To eliminate unintentional changes to the VR ON/OFF and AF/MF settings, those controls have been moved to the camera menu, and their status can be easily verified in your camera’s information display.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this lense zoom
Answer: It comes with the lens hood and a fabric pouch not a case. Hope this helps.
Question: I understand that autofocus doesn't work on the lower-end cameras like the D-3200...but does the shutter speed and aperature still work automatically
Answer: The number of cameras compatible with AF-P NIKKOR lenses is limited. Even for compatible cameras, firmware update may be required*. Fully compatible models: D850, D500, D7500, D5600, D5500, D5300*, D3400, D3300* and later models Compatible models with limited functions: D5, D810 series, Df, D750, D7200, D7100, D5200, Nikon 1 series with the FT-1 Incompatible models: D4 series, D3 series, D2 series, D1 series, D800 series, D700, D610, D600, D300 series, D200, D100, D7000, D5100, D5000, D90, D80, D70 series, D3200, D3100, D3000, D60, D50, D40 series, film cameras... So, in short, YES it will!
Question: Does this work with the Nikon D
Answer: It should work with a D3000, D3200, etc, but only as a manual focus lens. Some of Nikon's lower-end DX (cropped sensor, APS-C format) have electronic contact points to work with lenses that have their own built-in AF motor, but do not themselves have a motor to move the lens's AF. Those cameras will only auto focus with AF-S or AF-I lenses, but not AF-P lenses. If you are using this lens on one of these cameras and the shutter release button won't take a picture, the camera may be preventing shutter release because you don't have a clear focus at your selected AF point. (Perhaps you focused on one object and then reframed the shot.) You could check to see if you have a menu setting for "AF-S priority selection" that might allow the camera to shoot when it thinks it is out of focus. Otherwise, even though you are focusing manually, you would probably need to lock focus and then reframe so the camera knows that you intend that focus.
Question: Does D100 support AF on this lens

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work with a d
Answer: Yes it works perfectly with the af-s lens
Question: Can the lens be set to infinifty focus
Answer: No, it can't. There is no DoF scale on the lens.
Question: Can this lens take pictures in lower light than the 18-140mm
Answer: Depending on the apeture setting of the lens woud determine if the lens will take pictures in a lower light. For the most part, the larger the zoom area the more light will be permitted into the lens. and as far as this particular lens you can't find better glass for a lens than Nikkor (Nikon) for the price. Unless you want to go into the thousands of dollars for a Hasseelblad (spelling wrong) the glass used for Nikon lenses will give you 1.5 to 2 better stops better for the amount of light produced ot the end of the lens. Cannon is also better quality but Nikon has always been my choice between the two. One more thing, if you want to wait for a better price you can wait for a refurbished llense. When these lenses get sent back to the factory for a flaw or problem the quality control is actually better than the original one and you end up getting a better lense or at least one equal to a brand new lense. I picked mine up for $76.00 and it has produced extra good portraits in RAW format. To prevent me from giving a lesson on the difference between JPG and RAW formats let me just say that if you take a picture in RAW vs JPG format you will receive a picture that you could blow up 5 times larger without pixilation with RAW and there is NO compression. It is the compression algorithm in digital cameras that ruins great photos. If you use RAW format there is o compression and you get full control of color, saturation, definition and other things that gives you a picture that COULD (if used correctly) a picture that can rival film. (Never as good but rival). One more thing, you have to down load the software from either Cannon or Nikon to work with your RAW photographs. Just go to the camera site.
Question: i received it:made in Thailand
Answer: Both of my genuine Nikon lenses were made in Thailand, the 18-55mm and 70-300mm. I always call Nikonusa.com when I buy a lens or camera.nThey will verify your serial number and give you all the info to ensure that your product is genuine. Link: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/index.page

User questions & answers

Question: Le queda a una Nikon D
Answer: Nikon provides a compatibility chart that shows the limitations (if any) with their lenses. I'll try and paste the link here, but if that does not work you can easily find the chart on the internet. http://www.nikonusa.com/en_INC/IMG/Assets/Common-Assets/Images/Teleconverter-Compatibility/EN_Comp_chart.html
Question: is the 18-140mm a wide angle lens
Answer: No, it won't. That lens is not on the compatibility list at nikonusa.com. There is another website that explains teleconverters in a fair amount of detail, and it doesn't list the 28-300 mm lens either. https://backcountrygallery.com/all-about-teleconverters-tcs/
Question: Will this len work with Nikon D
Answer: The D500 Yes. I don't know about the lens but Nikon could give you the answer.

User questions & answers

Question: Will it autofocus on D
Answer: I have the D5100... I would only be assuming it would focus on the d5300.
Question: Will the autofocus work on 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Nikkor lens for the D
Answer: Yes, the auto-focus will work. But remember this is an FX lens. Your DX D3200 camera will register it as a 75mm lens rather than a 50mm lens.
Question: Could you comment on the merits of 50mm F 1.8 vs. 85 mm F 1.8 for portrait photography much of which will just be shot in the home on a D
Answer: Either lense is fine for portrait use though, but I prefer to keep portraits to around 50-85mm so on my aps-c sensor body it left me with one choice. A fx lens on a dx body has a focal length of 1.5x the rating. So a 50mm on a D7100 comes out to a 75mm, and the 85mm lens acts like a 127.rmm lens. For this reason I chose the 50mm F1.8 lens. It has nice bokeh and since the length isn't too long the portrait image still has some depth and isn't flattened.
Question: nikon 50mm f/1.8g vs. nikon 50mm f/1.4g... which one
Answer: Get the 1.8 and use the difference to buy the 35 1.8g dx

Your DSLR’s Best Friend

A must-have for standard portraits and everyday use, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G is a lens that will absolutely surprise you. The 50mm focal length (75mm equivalent on DX format cameras) with a fast f/1.8 aperture allows you to capture stunning images with a shallow depth-of-field, letting your subjects stand out from their backgrounds. The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G may soon become your new favorite lens.

Brilliance In Any Light Get Astonishing Low Light Results

This lightweight standard lens is a great travel companion because you never know when a beautiful, sunny day will turn cloudy and rainy. With its fast f/1.8 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance.

Beautiful Background Blur Achieve More Natural Depth Of Field

Whether you're shooting portraits, food or nature—indoors or outdoors—the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings. And its 50mm focal length is perfect for creating natural perspective in your photographs.

Capture Every Detail Shoot Tack-Sharp Portraits Every Time

Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare, while the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G's Aspherical Lens Element (AS) virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberrations, even when shooting at the widest available aperture. Pair that with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast, accurate and quiet autofocus, and you can be sure all of your portraits will be tack sharp.

Silent Wave Motor

AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM).

User questions & answers

Question: How many lenes does this camera come with
Answer: 2 lenses. It's a great starter kit.
Question: Can you zoom out far with this camera or do you have to buy different lens to get the zoom you want??? I loved my Nikon P530 , but my battery died cou
Answer: It does a decent zoom, but if you want true zoom in or out, I suggest another lens. I only use mine for family photos, etc, and outings, but I may invest in another lens for close and father shots. I have a hummingbird nest on my patio, and I find the basic lens doesn't quite do the job of catching the tiny egg and details, and for distance it only goes so far.
Question: Does this camera have an option for Raw photos
Answer: Hello Yes you can shoot raw with this camera. Thanks Brendan The Photo Center
Question: Is than a down grade from the d
Answer: Some people consider the D3400 a better camera than the D3500 due to the elimination of the "Function" button on the front of the camera that was accessible with the photographer's left hand that allows the ISO setting to be changer with the right thumb wheel while looking through the viewfinder. Also the IR remote shutter control was eliminated. I believe from what I read that all this was done to reduce the size (the body is the same as the D5600) and weight of the camera, improve battery life, and reduce manufacturing cost. Nikon does have a free app for your smart phone, SnapBridge App, that allows your smart phone to act as a remote shutter control and can automatically send your pictures (reduced resolution) to your smart phone. So to answer your question - I don't believe the the D3500 is an upgrade or a downgrade to the D3400 just the next in their line of "Beginner" DSLR Cameras.
