14 best lenses for sony a6500s

Lenses for the Sony Alpha a6500 camera, often referred to as the Sony E-mount lenses or simply Sony lenses, are an essential component for achieving high-quality photography and videography with this mirrorless camera. Here's what you need to know about lenses for the Sony a6500:

  1. E-mount Compatibility: The Sony Alpha a6500 uses the E-mount lens system, which is specifically designed for Sony's mirrorless cameras. This mount is compatible with a wide range of Sony lenses, including both native E-mount lenses and lenses from other manufacturers through the use of adapters.

  2. Native Sony E-mount Lenses: Sony offers a diverse lineup of native E-mount lenses, catering to various photography styles and preferences. These lenses range from wide-angle to telephoto, prime to zoom, and include options for macro, portrait, and landscape photography. Some popular series include the Sony G Master (GM) lenses, Zeiss-branded lenses, and Sony's budget-friendly FE lenses.

  3. Third-Party Lenses: Many third-party lens manufacturers, such as Sigma, Tamron, and Rokinon, produce E-mount lenses for the Sony a6500. These lenses can provide excellent optical quality and may offer more affordable alternatives to Sony's native lenses.

  4. Lens Types: Depending on your photographic needs, you can choose from various lens types, including prime lenses (with a fixed focal length), zoom lenses (with variable focal lengths), and specialty lenses like macro and fisheye lenses. The choice of lens type will depend on the type of photography or videography you're interested in.

  5. Aperture: Lenses come with different maximum apertures, often denoted by the f-number.A lower f-number (e.g., f/1.4) indicates a wider maximum aperture, which allows for better low-light performance and shallow depth of field for creative background blur (bokeh).

  6. Stabilization: Some Sony E-mount lenses feature built-in optical image stabilization (OIS), which helps reduce camera shake and is particularly useful for handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds.

  7. Adapters: If you have existing lenses from other manufacturers with different mounts, you can use lens adapters to mount these lenses on your Sony a6500. Popular adapters include those for Canon EF lenses, Nikon F lenses, and more.

  8. Crop Factor: It's important to be aware that the Sony a6500 has an APS-C sensor with a crop factor of approximately 1.5x. This means that the effective focal length of a lens is multiplied by 1.5x when attached to this camera. For example, a 50mm lens will have an effective focal length of around 75mm on the a6500.

  9. Lens Reviews and Recommendations: Before purchasing a lens for your Sony a6500, it's advisable to read reviews and seek recommendations based on your specific needs and preferences. Online photography forums, websites, and social media groups can be valuable resources for user experiences and insights.

Choosing the right lens for your Sony a6500 depends on your photography style, budget, and the subjects you wish to capture. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned photographer, there are plenty of lens options available to help you achieve your creative vision with this camera.

User questions & answers

Question: How does it perform on nonstabilized a6000 or a
Answer: On its own, no. This lens uses a Canon EF mount, but I use mine on my A7R with a Sigma MC-11 adapter and it works fine with that.
Question: Can i use this lens with Sony A
Answer: You would have to purchase for a Canon as the mount to camera is different than Nikon. They make both
Question: Is this for asp-c only? ie not for the a7 series
Answer: I recently purchased Canon Rebel T7i. This lens works with it. Canon uses standard lens mounts across all cameras, so this lens will mount on any Canon camera, but it will work correctly only with cameras which use reduced size (APS-C) image sensor, which usually means low to mid range.
Question: Would it work on a dslr
Answer: Nataraj, try looking up the ASIN number. That might help you out. I bought a kit from Goja right before christmas. I had pretty much the same question on a Sigma 18-250 kit. It was the latest lens, and thourally enjoyed it. Enjoying it.

A new solution for mirrorless camera users. Combining F1.4 brightness in a compact body Introducing a high-performance, large-diameter wide-angle lens

The new SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is the world’s first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Sony E-mount and Canon EOS M* cameras in the APS-C format to offer a 24mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and F1.4 brightness. The lens for Micro Four Thirds offers a 32mm focal length (35mm equivalent) with the same f-number of 1.4. This is the large-diameter wide-angle lens for which mirrorless camera users have been waiting.

Developed to feature a lightweight, compact package for everyday use, SIGMA DN lenses for mirrorless cameras deliver superior performance covering the key focal lengths. The new lens builds on the success of the 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, which SIGMA released in 2016 as the first in a new series of prime lenses for mirrorless cameras. The 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary also combines F1.4 brightness with top-level optical performance.

Diffraction MTF

There are two types of MTF chart. One considers the diffraction quality of light, which is called “Diffraction MTF”, and the other, “Geometrical MTF” does not.

The quality of light appears in the diffracted light, and becomes more distinct as the F value gets bigger, resulting in lower image quality. Also, diffracted light exists at every aperture, which is why SIGMA has been releasing Diffraction MTF data from the beginning since it is very close to the actual image data.

The readings at 10 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s contrast ability (red lines), repeating fine parallel lines spaced at 30 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s sharpness ability (green lines), when the aperture is wide open.

Geometrical MTF

The advantage of using “Geometric MTF” data is that it is easy to measure and calculate since it does not consider the diffraction quality of light, yet it tends to show higher values in the graph than actual images.

The readings at 10 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s contrast ability (red lines), repeating fine parallel lines spaced at 30 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s sharpness ability (green lines), when the aperture is wide open.

Designed to minimize flare and ghosting with a rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur.

The 9-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the out-of-focus areas of the image.

From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting have been measured to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. The included lens hood can be attached to block out extraneous light, which can have a negative effect on rendering performance.

Zoom into the world of telephoto
The world's smallest and lightest* telephoto zoom lens for Sony full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras

The 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD (Model A047) for Sony full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras is a telephoto zoom lens designed and created so photographers of all skill levels can enjoy high quality images comfortably. Tamron’s new 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 covers a broad telephoto zoom range yet is the world's smallest size and lightest weight, coming in at 148mm (5.8 in) long with a maximum diameter of 77mm, and weighing just 545g (19.2 oz). With special emphasis on resolving power, Tamron has deployed special lens elements appropriately arranged to correct chromatic aberration, generally very strong in a telephoto lens, as well as other aberrations. Users can enjoy high-resolution images combined with the stunning bokeh qualities that are achievable only with a telephoto lens. The lens also incorporates the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit, a high-speed precision AF drive system that is remarkably quiet. Tamron's Moisture-Resistant Construction provides extra protection, while various features that are built into Sony mirrorless cameras, including "Eye AF," are supported. The 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 is a versatile lens for photographing landscapes, sports and other action, pets and wildlife and more. The lens also demonstrates its potential for portrait shooting, casual snapshots and scenarios that require you to be mobile and shoot handheld, like sporting events. The apparent image compression and the close-up effects characteristic of telephoto lenses naturally amplify photographic expression. Zooming in on distant objects and making them appear closer is one of the joys of telephoto shooting. This zoom lens provides an entryway into that new world.

*Among 300mm-capable telephoto zoom lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras (As of August, 2020: Tamron)

A high-resolution telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras that is powerful, portable, and fun

To make the 300mm telephoto focal length more fun and accessible, Tamron focused intently on designing a telephoto zoom lens that’s both small and lightweight. Turning the conventional concept of a telephoto lens on its head, the 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 is only 148mm (5.8 in) in length with a maximum diameter of 77mm and a weight of just 545g (19.2 oz). This gives users the freedom to concentrate fully on shooting without worrying about lens size or weight. In addition to those wishing to pursue real telephoto shooting for the first time, the lens is also recommended for people who use cameras that have built-in image stabilization because they can leave the tripod at home. Of special significance, when paired with the APS-C sized E-mount Sony cameras, this zoom adds additional telephoto reach and still remains comfortable to handle. Users can enjoy shooting with even higher power telephoto effects at a maximum equivalent focal length of approximately 450mm*.

*For APS-C mirrorless format: 105-450mm equivalent field-of-view

Achieves the ultimate combination of light weight and outstanding optical performance

The 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 zoom’s optical design was refined via thorough simulations utilizing the latest technologies. With high priority on reduced size and weight, Tamron selected the aperture of F6.3 for the telephoto end to achieve a slim lens barrel and outstanding lightness. Taking the weight savings even further, we used a specially treated, high-strength aluminum-magnesium alloy*, the first time Tamron has used this material in the mount components of a lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The new design maintains excellent strength while successfully reducing weight to around 68% of previous mounts. The lens is made up of 15 elements in 10 groups with an appropriate arrangement of LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements. Eliminating waste to the extreme degree, Tamron reduced weight while still achieving very high image quality in the 70-300mm F4.5-6.3. Aberrations such as axial chromatic aberration (which tends to occur in telephoto lens designs) have been well corrected. The 300mm end, which receives particularly frequent use in a telephoto zoom, provides excellent high-resolution performance from the center of the image all the way to the corners. Stunning bokeh (intentional background blur qualities) are another remarkable feature of this new lens. Subjects are accentuated against the beautifully soft bokeh effects in the background. To suppress ghosting and flare, the lens uses Tamron's BBAR (Broad-Brand Anti-Reflection) Coating, which is renowned for its anti-reflection performance. In addition, the actuation of the lens correction features built into Sony cameras lets users enjoy enhanced performance and functions.

*High-strength aluminum-magnesium alloy: An alloy mainly comprised of aluminum with a high magnesium content.

High performance autofocus system means you'll own every shooting opportunity

The AF drive on the 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 includes an RXD motor unit to help you stay focused on the action. RXD uses an actuator to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to directly drive the focusing lens without passing through a reduction gear. A sensor that precisely detects the position of the lens enables high-speed and accurate AF, which is ideal when shooting continually moving subjects or recording video. And with a focusing system that is both smooth and quiet, the 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 lets you shoot free from stress not worrying the drive sound in a quiet environment.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this made or manufactured in Japan
Answer: I do not know if it is made in Japan...but, I think that does not matter. It is an excellent lens.Hope that this helps.
Question: Is the lens compatible with the Sony mirrorless a
Answer: Yes it is
Question: Could someone help me compare this lens to Sony 35mm f/1.8 please? http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SEL35F18-35mm-Prime-Fixed/dp/B0096W1P5W/ref=pd_sim_p_
Answer: I have both. They are quite similar in character, actually (except for focal length obviously). The 35 is more evenly sharp across the frame, whereas the 50 emphasizes the center, but is sharper in the center than the 35. They're both very sharp by f/4, and have similar chromatic performance (notably the longitudinal aberrations are very visible on both below f/4 on both). The 35 focuses a bit faster, especially in low light. I think the magnification at minimum focus is also very similar (.16x or so). The 35 is more compact. The 50 can blur backgrounds more, so it's better for that look, whereas the 35 must be focused somewhat closer to achieve the same background blur, so it's less useful if that's your thing. The hood on the 35 isn't as effective as that of the 50, but it's more compact. The focus rings are similar in feel. The 35 is a bit more prone to lens flare. Overall I prefer the 35 because it's a more versatile focal length, but they are both great lenses. I'd pick the 50 if I were mainly doing portraits, and the 35 if you want a walk around lens with great sharpness and low light ability.
Question: Is the lens comes with food
Answer: My didnt come with food. I was a little disappointent. My last lens came with a cheeseburger and fries.... :(

User questions & answers

Question: There is a firmware update for the sony a6300 and a6500 that provides support for this lens. will the a6000 work with this lens with no update (yet
Answer: yes, firmware version 1.05 provides support for the 18-135mm lens.
Question: Can you use it on a Sony a7lll
Answer: Yes, it is a compatible lens. Please be advised however that this is an aps-c lens will not cover the entire full frame sensor of the ILCE7M3.
Question: Does this lens increase in length when zoomed
Answer: Yes, unlike the internal zoom and focused SELP18105, the SEL18135 extends when zoomed out.
Question: Why would I’ll take this over the const f4 18-105? It’s the same size, almost the same focal and with non constant aperture
Answer: I have the 18-105 and it is a great lens for what it is. The zoom is slow, which is fine for video since the zoom frames may be edited out. But the power zoom is too slow for shooting action, and doing it manually isn't that fast either. I've held the 18-135 with an a6300 and it is a nice size for a walk-around lens, and it compacts nicely. But the quality will be lower than the 18-105.

Product features

Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS APS-C E-mount Zoom Lens

With a versatile 18-135mm (27-202.5mm / 35mm equivalent) range, Optical SteadyShot Image stabilization and fast, precise, quiet AF, this compact and lightweight zoom for APS-C E-mount cameras produces excellent corner-to-corner sharpness and beautiful defocused bokeh to a variety of still and movie applications.

7.5x high magnification zoom

A versatile 7.5x high magnification zoom APS-C lens featuring an 18-135mm / 27-202.5mm (35mm equivalent) focal length, F3.5-5.6 aperture range and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization can cover a broad spectrum of subjects and situations, including scenery, portraits, nature, and general day-to-day photography.

Advanced Aspherical optical design

An aspherical element helps suppress aberrations, achieving impressively high resolution, sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and ultra-wide angles while reducing the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight.

ED (Extra low Dispersion)

Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements control chromatic aberration for excellent sharpness from image center to periphery. ED glass elements correct for axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration, which affect resolution and bokeh, while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration.

7-blade Circular Aperture

When changing your aperture to defocus the background, light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background is enhanced with the 7-blade circular aperture used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing, polygonal-shaped, defocused points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.

Optical Image Stabilization

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization keeps your image stable even when your hands aren’t. By compensating for the minor hand motions that can cause blurring and distortion, Optical SteadyShot ensures brilliant photographic results – even at high magnification.

Product description

True to its high-end G Lens heritage, the SELP18105G lens features two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements for high resolution and contrast throughout the entire zoom range. The first Sony G Lens created specifically for E-mount cameras is true to its heritage, achieving outstanding resolution and contrast throughout the zoom range thanks to an advanced optical design incorporating two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements. From wide angle to medium telephoto, this power zoom lens covers approximately a 6x zoom range with a constant F4 aperture. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result. As focal lengths get longer, lenses built with conventional optical glass have difficulties with chromatic aberration, and as a result images suffer from lower contrast, lower color quality, and lower resolution. ED glass dramatically reduces chromatic aberration at telephoto ranges, and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings. Super ED glass provides enhanced compensation for chromatic aberration. Aspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane. This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight. Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements are an evolved variant, featuring an extremely high thickness ratio between the center and periphery. AA elements are exceedingly difficult to produce, relying on the most advanced molding technology to consistently and precisely achieve the required shape and surface accuracy, resulting in significantly improved image accuracy and quality. Gyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any image blur that might occur. The use of precision, quiet linear motors and technology inherited from high-end Sony professional camcorders results in exceptionally quiet, effective image stabilization that contributes to high-quality movies as well as stills. Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter. 2013 Sony Electronics All rights reserved. User questions & answers

Question: is this a E mount and can it be used on a NEX
Answer: Yes, the Sony SELP18105G lens has an E-mount. I have been using it on my Sony NEX-5R for about a month. All NEX cameras have an E-mount connection so there should be no problem putting it on a Sony NEX-6.
Question: I can't seem to get eye auto-focus to work with this lens. Any suggestions
Answer: I have found this usually happen when the lens is not seated. Or, when manual focus is on. Hope this helps.
Question: Does this lens cover a Full Frame sensor such as in the VG
Answer: The VG900 accepts both E-mount APS-C sensor lenses & A-mount Full Frame lenses, plus more.
Question: How does the image quality compare with the SEL18200 18-200mm lens (not the LE version)? Can you notice the difference
Answer: The 18-105 is definitely the sharper lens. In my opinion, even at F4 throughout the entire range, you get amazing results. The 18-200, like most zooms, you have to really stop it down some to get the best results and the telephoto ends tends to get soft focus. It's a good all-in-one but definitely can notice the difference in performance and image quality especially in lower light situations.

Product features

Sony 70-200mm F2.8 fixed zoom G Master lens

An incomparable constant aperture F2.8 70-200 mm telephoto zoom with extraordinary G Master resolution that offers unsurpassed rendering and bokeh, blazing AF, and extraordinary image stabilization performance

Extraordinary detail and bokeh in one lens

G Master design combines extraordinary sharpness and smooth Bokeh in one lens. It is not easy to achieve spatial frequency of 50 lines pairs per millimeter at a lens's widest aperture and produce smooth beautiful bokeh at the same time, but that is Sony's baseline for G Master design. Unprecedented resolution and other demanding design parameters yield outstanding reproduction of the most detailed subjects and scenes with superior contrast throughout every frame. G Master resolution is simply the highest in its class.

11-blade circular aperture for luscious bokeh

When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing, polygonal shaped defocussed points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.

Class-leading close-up performance

Class-leading close-up performance with a minimum focusing distance of 37.8” and 0.25x maximum magnification is ideal for portraits, telephoto macro, and more. Contributing refinements include ED glass elements and a floating focus mechanism to control aberration that can be problematic in close-up applications.

Dust and moisture resistant for robust reliability

Sony’s standard lens sealing is augmented by a lens mount seal that maximizes resistance to dust and moisture for reliable operation in challenging environmental conditions.* Additional details like rubberized rings that are easy to operate in low temperatures, a zoom lock that prevents unwanted lens extension during transport, and a hood lock button, all add up to professional control and convenience.

No “Breathing”

When making movies you’re frequently focusing while shooting, either with autofocus or manual focus. A lens that has not been designed with movies in mind might exhibit “breathing”, or variations in the angle of view while focusing which can be a jarring distraction. The SEL70200GM features an optical design and control technology inherited from Sony’s professional camcorders that ensure minimal focus breathing.

Fast AF optimized for stills and video

Two heavy focus groups are rapidly and precisely positioned by separate actuators: a powerful ring SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) actuator for the front group, and a double linear motor actuator for the rear group. Improved positioning precision works with real-time feedback from multiple position sensors to allow the body’s AF system to operate at full capacity.

Parfocal design ideal for video

Zooming is a fundamental moviemaking technique that is used for both practical framing changes as well as creative effect. Parfocal means the SEL70200GM holds focus on a subject even when zooming in or out.

High performance Optical SteadyShot Image stabilization

High-performance image stabilization is built right into the lens for sharp, blur-free images with a wide range of subjects. The heavy stabilization lens is driven by a linear motor for fast, precise stabilization. 5-axis image stabilization becomes available when used with α series bodies that feature built-in image stabilization. To provide the greatest possible benefit from the built-in image stabilization system in the widest range of shooting situations, the features switchable MODE 2 stabilization allows image stabilization to be used with panned shots for greater clarity and impact.

Constant lens length during focusing and zooming

With the new design of the SEL70200GM, the overall length of the lens does not change and the lens is able to achieve shorter minimum focusing distance. The filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter

ED and Super ED glass reduces flare and ghosting

ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and Super ED glass elements take axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration due to differences in magnification out of the picture, maximizing resolution and bokeh while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration.

Outstanding clarity and contrast

Sony’s original Nano AR Coating technology minimizes flare and ghosting, for dynamic range that achieves lifelike detail and gradation with advanced camera sensors. This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, even more so than with lenses that use coatings with an irregular nano-structure. The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano AR Coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality.

A true flagship of artistic expression

Designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and tremendous expressive power, our new Art line of lenses delivers top-level image quality. With unsurpassed expressive performance, these lenses reach the high standards demanded by photographers with an artistic, creative inclination. Along with landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-up and casual snaps, they're perfect for the kind of photography that unleashes the inner artist. Ideal for studio photography, they offer just as much expressive scope when capturing architecture, starry skies, underwater shots and many other scenes. The full realization of the Art concept, the 35mm F1.4 DG HSM is the perfect flagship. Hold it in your own hands and appreciate it with your own eyes.

Brass made bayonet mount

This lens incorporates a brass made bayonet mount which has both high accuracy and durability. A special treatment to reinforce its strength is applied to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use.

High resolution with beautiful bokeh effects

Minimal distortion combined with beautiful bokeh effects at large-aperture settings.

The aspheric lens at the front of the lens series helps minimize both distortion and vignetting. The rounded diaphragm produces an attractive round bokeh effect at large-aperture settings. Optimized power distribution minimizes sagittal coma flare. Coma of point light sources near the edge of the image and axial chromatic aberration are both minimized, making the lens an excellent choice for photographing nighttime landscapes and heavenly bodies.

Smooth bokeh and minimised flare.

Made in Japan

All Sigma products, lenses, cameras and flash units are manufactured exclusively by Sigma in Sigma’s own factory in Aizu, Japan. No Sigma Corporation product – lens, camera or flash – is manufactured outside of Japan. This is very unusual these days, as most companies have at least some of their products produced outside of Japan because of cost considerations.

There's a reason why SIGMA continues to insist on the very highest quality in its product manufacturing: our love of photography is second to none.

We deeply appreciate the photographer's desire to record and express—the passion of the photographer.

Floating system

This system adjusts the distance between lens groups during focusing, thereby reducing the amount of lens movement required. The result is less aberration at different shooting distances. Benefits are particularly great in macro lenses because they cover a wide range of shooting distances, and in wide-angle lenses, which employ asymmetric configurations of lens elements.

Compatible with full-frame Sony E-mount cameras

The version of this lens compatible with Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras contains the same optical system as for SLRs. SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 is not required, as the lens performs the same functions as the converter, including in-camera image stabilization and in-camera lens aberration correction. In addition, the lens is compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF, which is not addressed by MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11. SIGMA plans to offer over time Sony E-mount versions of every full-frame prime lens currently available in the Art line, from 14mm to 135mm.Note: This product is developed, manufactured and sold based on the specifications of E-mount which was disclosed by Sony Corporation under the license agreement with Sony

Product description

Super wide-angle zoom lenses are ideal for taking photos of sweeping landscapes and producing striking images with emphasized perspective. The distance encoder plays an integral part in ADI flash metering, which delivers high precision flash metering that is unaffected by the reflectance of subjects or backgrounds. The distance encoder is a lens component that directly detects the position of the focusing mechanism, and sends a signal to the CPU in order to measure distance to the subject. During flash photography, this data is very useful in calculating how much flash output is appropriate to the scene. 7-blade circular aperture contributes to gorgeous bokeh

The 7-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens, contributing to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground and background, as well as perfectly round points of defocused light. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides that create unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light. Alpha lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.

Focus hold button, programmable for multiple functions

The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing, but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. In addition to Focus Hold, these custom functions include: Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview or Bright Monitoring.

Linear Response MF

Linear Response MF realizes precise manual focus control, closely equivalent to mechanical manual focus, which enables linear focus transition to ring rotation angle for repeatable and accurate manual focus that is especially desirable for MF control during video capture.

Instant auto/manual focus selection

Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you, or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you chose.
