3 best lens for sony a7s
Sony's A7S series cameras are well-known for their low-light performance and high-quality video capabilities. To make the most of these cameras, choosing the right lens is crucial. Here's what you need to know about lenses for Sony A7S cameras:
E-Mount Compatibility: Sony A7S cameras use the E-mount system. When selecting a lens, ensure that it is compatible with E-mount cameras, as this system is designed specifically for Sony mirrorless cameras.
Prime vs.Zoom Lenses: You can choose between prime lenses (fixed focal length) and zoom lenses (variable focal length). Prime lenses tend to offer better image quality and larger apertures, making them ideal for low-light shooting. Zoom lenses provide versatility for a variety of shooting situations.
Aperture: The aperture of a lens is critical, especially for the A7S series known for low-light performance. Look for lenses with wide apertures like f/1.4, f/1.8, or even f/2.8 for better performance in low light and the ability to achieve a shallow depth of field for creative effects.
Focal Length: Consider the focal length based on your photography needs. Wide-angle lenses (e.g., 16mm, 24mm) are great for landscapes and architecture, while standard or portrait lenses (e.g., 50mm, 85mm) are ideal for portraits and general photography. Telephoto lenses (e.g., 70-200mm) are excellent for wildlife and sports.
Image Stabilization: Some lenses come with built-in optical image stabilization, which can be helpful for both photography and video, especially if you're shooting without a tripod or in challenging conditions.
Lens Brand: Sony offers a range of high-quality lenses for their A7S series cameras. Additionally, third-party manufacturers like Sigma, Tamron, and Zeiss produce E-mount lenses that are compatible with Sony cameras. Research and read reviews to find the best lens for your specific needs and budget.
Manual vs. Autofocus: Some lenses offer manual focus rings, which can be advantageous for videographers who prefer manual focus control. Autofocus lenses are more convenient for photography and can still be used in manual focus mode when needed.
Video Features: If you plan to use your A7S camera primarily for video, consider lenses with features like quiet and smooth autofocus motors, de-clicked aperture rings for smooth exposure adjustments, and minimal focus breathing for professional video production.
Filter Compatibility: Check if the lens has the necessary filter thread size to attach filters like polarizers or neutral density filters for creative effects and control over exposure.
Price Range: Lenses can vary significantly in price. Decide on your budget and prioritize features based on your photography or videography needs.
Ultimately, the choice of lens for your Sony A7S camera will depend on your specific shooting style and preferences. Sony and third-party manufacturers offer a wide range of options to help you achieve your desired results, whether you're capturing stunning photographs or producing high-quality videos.

Question: | Will this work on Canon T3i |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why buy this when the iPhone 11 Pro Max seems has the same focal lengths, wider aperture |
Answer: | I guess it depends on what you’re doing with your images. If you’re displaying them on the web use your iPhone. If you’re making prints of any significant size I’d go with the lens. The lens is fabulous, very sharp and great focal length. |
Question: | Will this work with a sony a99 ii |
Answer: | Since this lens is an "e" mount and the Sony a99 is an "a" mount, you will need to have an adapter for it to work. Be sure to check to be sure the functionality is the same when using the adapter...as that's a lot of $ to pay for a lens if it doesn't. It is a fabulous lens though (for my Sony a7r ii). |
Question: | Will it work with A |
Answer: | While it is true this is a full frame lens that in no way means it would not be a great lens on the a6000. The most important feature of this lens is the 2.8 aperture and that does not change on a crop sensor camera like yours! The larger aperture will still would allow it to focus faster and perform better in low light situations as well as allow for better bokah. Glass is more important than the body. The a6000 has a great sensor and image quality to start with and the lens would be awesome on it. The only "issue" is its not as wide as it would be on an A7 so think of its field of view as being a 36-105 instead of a 24-70. Not quite as good for landscape. Good glass will stay with your as you upgrade your bodies so the investment is totally worth it as long as you stay within the E-Mount system |
Question: | As a landscape photographer who usually shoots in f/11-f/22, is this sony 24-70 f2.8 lens really much better than the zeiss 24-70 f |
Answer: | no. at those apertures the difference will be minimal. if you pixel peep you may notice better detail and less distortion in the corners, but that's about it, but not enough to make or break the photo. or justify the price. the G master is also MASSIVE. mounting it on an A7R II will make your set up just as big and heavy as a Canon 5DM4 + 24-70 f/2.8 IIthe only reason i would carry a G Master is if would shoot at 2.8 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this compatible with sony a7r3 ad a7r |
Answer: | The lens has an Sony FE mount. It is therefore compatible with all Sony mirrorless cameras. This includes the A7 series "full frame" cameras and the A6XXX (A6000, A6300, A6400, A6500, A6600, etc.) APS series cameras. On the A7 series cameras, it will act as a lens with the focal length of 11 mm, with a diagonal field of view of 180 degrees. On the A6XXX series cameras, it will have the field of view for a lens of about 16.5 mm focal length. It is a manual focal lens, so there will be no autofocus. The aperture is set on the lens, so you will have to set the camera to aperture priority and have the camera set the shutter speed, or set the camera to work on full manual mode and set the shutter manually. Focus peaking and focus magnification will still work on the camera using this lens. |
