User questions & answers

Answer: It's amazingly sharp at 500mm. Here is are some samples:210mm f/5.6 https://www.flickr.com/photos/135228867@N08/26086474695/in/dateposted-public/320mm f/5.6 https://www.flickr.com/photos/135228867@N08/26020246541/in/dateposted-public/500mm f/5.6 https://www.flickr.com/photos/135228867@N08/26060487916/in/dateposted-public/500mm f5.6 https://www.flickr.com/photos/135228867@N08/25994152192/in/dateposted-public/
Question: Is anyone using this with a DX
Answer: Works very good with 7200.........my go to combo for birds.
Question: will this lens work on a nikon d
Answer: I've mounted it and used it fine on a D3200, although it's hard to spot the camera body since the lens swallows it up! :)
Question: Is this lens compatible with the nikon d5000? i've been getting mixed answers. thanks
Answer: Yes this FX lens will work on any modern Nikon DX camera but it's not as simple as the answers I see provided. Yes the Lens effectively becomes a 350-750mm lens and for wildlife that is great but what you are not hearing about is that the effective aperture also goes up proportionately from 5.6 to a higher number. That decreases your depth of field. Second problem is that most people think the image will be sharper because your "using the center of the glass". This increased sharpness myth has been debunked and is not true! If you had a true DX lens of roughly the same quality and in the same focal range you would get a sharper picture from it on a DX camera. All I am saying is that your paying a lot of money for high a high quality lens that will not work as well as a true DX lens that would cost 1/3 the price. If you are sure that at some future date you will be moving to an FX camera then it's worth it, if not I suggest you do some reading and confirm what I am saying is true. There is an excellent video by Tony Northrup that explains and photographically demonstrates the gains and loses of using an FX lens on a DX camera.

Question: I have a nikon d3100 and a 50mm dx. with the crop factor, will this allow me to get in closer than the 50mm i already have
Answer: Since it is made for DX and your camera is FX, the lens will work, but the image will be in a full circle, if that makes any sense.
Question: Is this lens compatible with the D
Answer: This is made for Cropped sensor dslr's
Question: Is this lens compatible with the D
Answer: It's completely manual. I usually set the focus on infinity, which is 6 feet+ anyway. fStop is set on the lens barrel, then adjust shutter speed manually on camera for best exposure. It's old school but I like it. Takes great pictures.
