Question:	Will this lens be good for soccer and football when on the sidelines
Answer:	This is a subjective question. For the most part, it's not a sports lens. The AF system is not really built to be snappy fast for sports. However, if you are photographing young children, I think it can work, since they are not likely to be as fast as high school aged kids. Also, the limits of the aperture make it hard to use fast shutter speeds without a high ISO, so you will get some noise in the images. If this doesn't bother you then it's not a big deal. If in good light (daylight), then it will be fine so long as you know how to track your subject. For football at night, it's going to be tough. I would look for the bright spots on the field, like where the lights shine the brightest, and try to get photos in those places. Here is how I would set the camera. 1. Tv mode. This lets you control the shutter. Set to 1/500 sec. 2. ISO and aperture are controlled by camera. Make sure ISO is in auto. 3. Set focus to "servo" mode. This makes it so the camera tracks as you hold in the focus. 4. Select a small focus. Depending on your camera, you might have to use just one point. Some will let you choose a small grid. 5. Get focus on your subject and hold the focus to track them as they move around. This will give the STM motor time to find the focus. Shoot when you have the best shot. This is how I shot youth soccer with a SL2/200D and the 55-250mm IS STM. Got plenty of good shots. I'd post them in my review but it is now against Amazon policy to do so. Answer:	Great question. Some answers for you... It is a better lens than the older IS II model in the following ways: Better optics for better IQ and contrast. Rear focusing so the front element doesn't rotate. Better IS. STM is better than the DC micro motor; it's faster, more accurate, and nearly silent. The focus isn't as fast as say, USM lenses, but you will notice an improvement. If speed of focus is more important in your case, then you should look into the EF 70-300mm F4-5.6 IS II USM instead. Optically, they have very similar IQ, but the 70-300mm has much snappier focus for stills, and is still silent for video like the STM lens. As to how much a difference you will see on your camera? The T2i is a pretty old camera, and IQ wise think you won't see much of a difference. Either of the suggested lenses will look good on your camera, but you might not see a large difference in overall IQ due to the age of the sensor. I think the advantages are that you will see better contrast, have better focus (which leads to more in focus shots), and if you ever move to a newer camera then you will see a difference in IQ with a newer sensor. It has image stabilization, and for Canon you can tell what lenses do as they will list "IS" in the description of the lens. On this lens, you have 3.5 stops of IS, which is really great since it has such a long reach. Keep in mind though that IS does nothing to help with a moving subject, only a fast shutter speed can help with that. 2. Your camera can use this lens, as well as all other EF and EF-S lenses. This is one of the 4 lenses I suggest to anyone that is learning photography and wants to expand their kit beyond the lens that came with their camera. Answer:	Hello. I take a dish rag, pour alcohol on it, place it inside the unit. I then use a long wooden kitchen spoon to move the rag around to clean the build up. For the harder to reach areas, I have a long thin brush that was originally purchased in a 3 brush set to clean my fish tank. Those work great. I also use q-tips dipped in alcohol to clean the inside of the detachable parts. Hope this helps

This lens coupled with a standard range lens and the 100mm 1.8 prime lens makes for a very useful lens kit.

I would suggest going to 50mm or 85mm on it and stepping back for full body pictures to avoid the distortion wide angle lenses play on a person's face/body, but you should be fine for large groups of people (I took an image of 45 people with this lens - very wide angle and distortion correction performed in post).

Answer:	100-400 is too slow for indoor shots. Recently, I shot photos at my kid's soccer game. Even using a 70-200 2.8 I had to increase the ISO to 6400 to have fast-enough shutter speeds to capture the movements. I got many good but very grainy images. For actions, 2.8 is the only way to go.

Answer:	That depends on the sport, your distance from the action and aperture you want. I shoot a lot of action too, softball, baseball, gymnastics, rowing, etc. for me, my 70-200 lives on my camera. However; if I want different perspectives, like a picture from center field to the batter - I will switch over to the 100-400. I also need it for the reach at most rowing events. That said, I still prefer the 70-200 for the speed and sharpness. Perhaps I’m just more comfortable with that lens.

Answer:	I would rate this as one of Canon's best lenses on any camera. I don't know the DXO mark scores, they tend to overly focus on numbers that don't always translate well into the real world. They probably aren't wrong, I'm sure they score the Tamron high in IQ (rightfully), and it gets bonus points for having VC (the IS of Tamron). Since this is the non-IS 70-200mm, that alone is probably why it outscores it. But let's put them both in real world scenarios where they both apply... This 70-200mm is a super fast to focus lens with top notch IQ. It is meant to be used at fast shutter speeds, fast enough that IS is not needed most the time. So if you are shooting a lot of action at fast shutter speeds (lets say, 1/1000 or faster), then the only thing that really matters at that point is how fast the lens can focus. This is where the Tamron falls short, as it struggles to find focus in servo mode, and is not quite as fast or accurate as the Canon. If you are more often in situations where you are shooting at lower shutter speeds, like 1/60 or slower (nature shots), then IS is more of a factor. Even then, I would say to go for the F4 IS version of the Canon, as it is even sharper than the F2.8 with the same amazing focusing, but also has 4 stop IS and is cheaper than the Tamron. If you intend to use it for portraits, then the Canon is better here too, since it has no focus breathing. This means that 200mm is 200mm on the Canon, but on the Tamron as you get closer to your subject for bokeh, 200mm is more like 130mm due to focus breathing. The Tamron is a good lens, but is tough to beat Canon's 70-200mm lenses.

Answer:	I see this is an old answer, but I bet a lot of people have this same question…I have a T3i, and the 70-200mm F2.8L was my first truly great lens. To answer your question directly, it will work well on your T3i, and is good for both indoor and outdoor sports. It is the lenses ability to shoot in low light that makes it worthwhile in your case, since the wide F2.8 aperture will allow far more light onto your sensor than the F4 version will. (Of course, that makes it more than twice the cost.) For indoor sports though, the F2.8 is the only way to go here, as I am not sure the T3i can push the high ISO you would need on the F4, not without creating significant noise in your photos.That all being said, there are some other things I would like to point out…1. Once you go L, you never go back – An exaggeration, but seriously, L level glass makes kit lenses look like Fisher Price children’s toys (another exaggeration, but a good one). If you are serious about improving your skills, then this is a good place to start. The cost is high, but the value is too. It will add a depth to your bag that I would guess you are lacking, and that is the ability to shoot in low light, as well as a blazing fast autofocus (like, ridiculously fast), and image sharpness that will blow you away. 2. T3i autofocus will struggle – The t3i is a very solid entry level camera, and mine served me very well for 5 years. Then, I decided I wanted to get more action and nature shots, so I got the 70-200mm F2.8L. Even though it was great for this, the trouble was that I had to shoot dozens of shots in burst mode in hopes of getting a handful of keepers. This was because the AF system on the T3i was not up to the task. The 9 points just weren’t enough; either I would miss my focus because the wrong point picked it up, or I would miss it by trying to use a single point and wasn’t able to get it on the subject fast enough. Eventually I got an 80D, and the 45 point cross type AF was everything this lens needed to work at its highest potential. That isn’t to say you can’t get a 9 point focus to work for you, it just takes some work, and will be a little frustrating. That being said, I would ALWAYS recommend upgrading your lens before your body, as the lens is what truly unlocks the body’s potential. What good would a 45 point AF system be to a lens that can’t shoot action?3. To IS or not to IS – I’m sure you have seen the much more expensive IS version of this lens, and the slightly less expensive F4 IS version. For my money, the non-IS F2.8 was good enough. IS is for shooting handheld shots at slow shutter speeds. If you are shooting action, then you won’t need it, as your speeds will likely be 1/500 sec or faster, at which point IS is useless. It can even be detrimental, since it takes time for the IS motor to activate. The F4 IS, in my opinion, is more a niche market lens. I feel that for the money, the F2.8 is a better deal. This is because I can always find a way to stabilize my camera (tripod, monopod, sturdy surface), but F4 can never be F2.8.4. It is so much more – This lens is amazing. Super sharp quality, and creamy bokeh will make this your go to lens for almost everything but wide shots. I use mine to do portraits along with everything else, as the way the light is compressed through the barrel gives a very flattering look, as well as the bokeh I mentioned before. I have always been satisfied with this lens; I can see myself using it for years to come.Not sure what you chose to do, but I hope whatever it was, you got some good use from it.
