6 best macro lens for panasonic lumixes
A macro lens for Panasonic Lumix mirrorless cameras is a specialized camera lens designed for capturing close-up and highly detailed photos of small subjects. These lenses are popular among photographers interested in macro photography, which involves photographing subjects at a very close range to reveal intricate details that are often not visible to the naked eye. Here's what you need to know about macro lenses for Panasonic Lumix cameras:
Close-Up Photography: Macro lenses are specifically crafted to allow for extreme close-up photography. They enable photographers to capture subjects such as insects, flowers, jewelry, or any other small objects with exceptional detail and clarity.
Magnification Ratio: One of the essential features of a macro lens is its ability to achieve a 1:1 magnification ratio or higher. This means that the subject can be captured on the camera's sensor at life-size or larger, depending on the lens.
Focal Length: Macro lenses come in various focal lengths, such as 30mm, 60mm, 90mm, or 100mm. The choice of focal length depends on your specific photography needs. Shorter focal lengths are suitable for subjects that require you to get very close, while longer focal lengths provide more working distance from the subject.
Image Stabilization: Some macro lenses may feature image stabilization technology, which helps reduce the effects of camera shake when shooting at close distances. This can be particularly useful when shooting handheld in low light conditions.
Aperture: Macro lenses often have a wide maximum aperture (e.g., f/2.8 or f/2.0), allowing for a shallow depth of field. This is useful for isolating the subject from the background, creating a pleasing and artistic blur (bokeh).
Autofocus and Manual Focus: Many macro lenses offer both autofocus and manual focus options. Manual focus is often preferred in macro photography because it allows for precise control over the focus point.
Compatibility: When choosing a macro lens for a Panasonic Lumix mirrorless camera, make sure it is compatible with your camera's lens mount. Lumix cameras typically use Micro Four Thirds or L-Mount lens mounts, so ensure that the lens you select matches your camera's mount.
Accessories: Some macro lenses may support additional accessories like extension tubes or teleconverters, which can further enhance their macro capabilities or change their effective focal lengths.
Price Range: The price of macro lenses can vary significantly based on factors like brand, focal length, and features. Higher-quality macro lenses with larger apertures and advanced optics tend to be more expensive.
Sample Images and Reviews: Before purchasing a macro lens, it's a good idea to look for sample images taken with that lens and read reviews from other photographers to get a sense of its performance and image quality.
In summary, a macro lens for Panasonic Lumix mirrorless cameras is an essential tool for photographers interested in close-up and macro photography. It allows you to capture the beauty of small subjects in stunning detail and is a valuable addition to your camera gear if you have a passion for macro photography.

From the Manufacturer
The world's first Leica Micro Four Thirds lens, the Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm/F2.8 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S., features exceptional image quality in a compact size.
The Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm/F2.8 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. (equivalent to 90mm on a 35mm film camera), features outstanding image quality that meets the renowned Leica standard. The new Leica lens uses both an aspherical lens and an ED lens comprised of fourteen lenses arranged in ten groups. This lens takes advantage of the Micro Four Thirds specifications to achieve a dramatic size decrease, while also minimizing distortion and glare. Panasonic's Mega Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) suppresses the blurring that is commonly caused by hand-shake, making it easy to shoot sharply-focused macro shots even in dimly-lit places without the need for a tripod.
The Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm/F2.8 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. lens incorporates an inner focus motor system that makes action smooth and silent when capturing still and video content. By flipping a switch on the lens barrel, the minimum focus distance can instantly be changed to 150mm or 500mm (approximately 5.9 inches or 19.7 inches respectively). This lens excels when taking portraits, mid-range snapshots and landscapes, in addition to macro shots.
When mounted on Lumix G Micro System Cameras, the Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm/F2.8 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. lens allows for use of the advanced contrast Auto Focus (AF) system, which includes Panasonic's Face Recognition functions. It's comprised of seven blades, which produce an attractive and smooth background blur effect when shooting at larger aperture settings. These lenses also feature a highly-reliable metal mount, and use multi-coated lens elements to minimize glare and further enhance optical performance.

Exploring...
The advent of macro lens diopters has swept away one of the most challenging problems in image capture: how to shoot macro without a pile of special expensive gear. Now you can get down, dirty and close in the image capture business and make macro the digital way with a 100% success rate.
You're not alone when saying macro photography is an absorbing activity: to be able to reach in and record an image that is not easily visible to the naked eye is an attractive option. There is nothing more gratifying than to make a huge print of an insect, rock specimen or any small object that is normally so tiny to the naked eye and captured with the technique of macro photography.
In the old days of film, to shoot macro, aside from the requirement of using an SLR camera, you needed a few add-ons to take highly magnified images of extremely small subjects. You could begin by attaching a huge converter lens to the front of the existing standard lens … this would convey a degree of magnification. You could also install extension tubes between your normal lens and the camera body. You could also acquire a set of macro bellows and place them between lens and body; and finally, you could invest in an expensive, and optically superb, bayonet style macro lens dedicated solely to macro shooting.
These days, it’s done in a jiffy! With a digital camera and these macro lens diopters. Novices are surprised by how easy it is to capture really, big shots of tiny subjects. Some images taken by newbies have been noticed by Nature magazines. That’s how good they are!
In truth, you can make digital macro photography as basic or as complex as you wish it to be: even with a budget of 200 Dollars you can capture images of the tiny world before you, subjects as small as a matchbox, a match-head or even tinier. The higher-priced compact cameras can do it even better, some offering with a powerful zoom lens, so you can attach these macro lenses and stand back a bit.
A True Macro Lens
Digital Nc's advanced two-element achromatic macro lenses turn your video or photography lens into a true macro lens. They provide lenses with more close-up range and magnification, without compromising image quality. They are also designed to maintain a flat field and edge-to-edge sharpness without chromatic aberration or image degradation.
They provide dramatically shorter MOD (Minimum Object Distance). This is essential whenever it is necessary to focus tightly on a small subject with a long lens - in tabletop, miniature and flat field videography. For example, add this 10x diopter to a 14x lens with an MOD of 40", and bring it down to 2", filling the frame with a subject as small as 3/4" across.
Made to withstand the elements with a heavy duty, water-repellent chassis. The sturdy, long-lasting material is double bonded so it will hold up and keep your glass protected for years to come. Made with fade-resistant materials to retain its original crystal lens for years to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this compatible with the DMC-G6KK |
Answer: | I would not use this lens for sports photography . . .fixed 100mm on a full frame camera (160mm on crop sensor) is very limiting if subjects are much of a distance away and will produce images that will require considerable cropping if you want a close up final image or print. I actually sold this lens because I found I hardly ever used it . . .The best use for this lens is either portraits or macro photography . It excels ay both of these applications. My choice for sports photography is current 70-200 zoom f4 sometimes used with a 1.4 tele-extender . . . Just my $.02 worth |
Question: | Will it work with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF |
Answer: | Make sure you have the switches set correctly. There are 3 switches on the lens, you may have inadvertantly moved them when you switched bodies. The top switch has 3 positions: full, 0.5-infinity and 0.3m - 0.5m. The full position allows the autofocus to seek over the entire range of the lens. The second position locks out macro, allowing it to autofocus on 'normal' subjects faster. The third position does the opposite - it locks it into macro mode so it can autofocus on macro subjects faster. The second switch switches between manual focus and auto focus. The third turns images stabilization on and off. I would test it again on your 60D after making sure all the switches are set correctly. Test it in good light on a subject with high contrast. It may be worthwhile to clean the contacts on your 60D with a pencil eraser. You may also want to check if there is a BIOS update for your 60D. If it still doesn't work, you may need to contact Canon to have your 60D serviced. It's not likely to be a problem with the lens since it works fine on your other body. |
Question: | Is this fit in GF |
Answer: | The T3i is a great camera but a lens really makes all the difference. I use this macro often on a crop frame 7D similar to your T3i and had the opportunity to use it on full frame cameras too. It's fast, quiet, and the IS is fairly new (1 year old) and defiantly worth having especially on a higher focal length of 100mm. I would say this is one of my more popular lenses I enjoy. |
Question: | If you had to choose one panasonic prime lens for your mft camera - would you get this one (25mm) or the 20mm f1.7? main use: portrait, night, street |
Answer: | Yes, the Canon ET-73 clip on plastic hood |
