10 best dslr speedlight flashes
DSLR speedlight flashes, also known as shoe mount flashes or external flashes, are versatile accessories for digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras and other compatible cameras. These flashes provide additional lighting in various photography situations, helping photographers achieve better exposure, eliminate shadows, and create appealing lighting effects. Here are some key aspects of DSLR speedlight flashes:
Shoe Mount: DSLR speedlights are typically designed to attach to the hot shoe on top of the camera. The hot shoe provides both physical and electrical connections, allowing the flash to communicate with the camera and fire when needed.
TTL (Through-The-Lens) Metering: Many modern DSLR speedlights offer TTL metering, which means they can measure the ambient light through the camera's lens and automatically adjust the flash output for proper exposure. This feature simplifies the flash photography process for beginners.
Manual Mode: DSLR speedlights often have manual modes that allow photographers to set the flash output power manually. This level of control is valuable for advanced users who want to fine-tune their lighting.
Zoomable Flash Head: Some speedlights have a zoomable flash head that can be adjusted to match the focal length of the camera's lens. This feature helps concentrate light where it's needed and can be especially useful for telephoto lenses.
Swivel and Tilt: Many speedlights can swivel and tilt their flash heads to bounce light off walls, ceilings, or reflectors, providing softer and more diffused lighting. This technique reduces harsh shadows and produces a more natural look.
Wireless Flash: DSLR speedlights often support wireless flash capabilities, allowing multiple flashes to be triggered remotely. This is useful for creative lighting setups, such as off-camera flash or multi-light setups.
Flash Accessories: Photographers can enhance the versatility of their speedlights with accessories like diffusers, softboxes, colored gels, and bounce cards. These accessories help shape and control the quality of light.
Power Source: DSLR speedlights are typically powered by AA batteries or rechargeable battery packs. Some high-end models offer faster recycling times and longer battery life.
High-Speed Sync (HSS): HSS is a feature found in some speedlights that allows photographers to use flash at faster shutter speeds, often above the camera's sync speed. This is useful for achieving a shallow depth of field in bright conditions.
Built-in Modeling Lights: Some speedlights come with built-in modeling lights that provide a preview of how the flash will affect the scene, making it easier to visualize and set up lighting.
DSLR speedlight flashes are essential tools for photographers looking to take control of their lighting, whether for portrait photography, event photography, studio work, or creative lighting effects. They provide flexibility and creativity in lighting control and are an integral part of a photographer's toolkit.

Question: | Is there a way to power this via a DC wall adtpater instead of batteries |
Answer: | There is a side plug for power but the power cord is not included. |
Question: | Will this work on a Canon T6i |
Answer: | Yes. It doesn't work with some T7 because some early T7 didn't have the center pin in the hotshoe. T6 and newer T7 with the center pin will work |
Question: | Why does it turn my pictures white on my sony a |
Answer: | The Sony A7 has an advertised flash sync speed of 1/250 of a second. I don't own one but I've seen posts suggesting that some folks struggle to get it above 1/60th of a second. So when you use your flash, your camera may be forcing the shutter speed down to the maximum flash sync speed (1/250th or 1/60th of a second) WITHOUT OTHERWISE ADJUSTING YOUR EXPOSURE. So, say you're shooting outside on an overcast day and you want to use a fill flash. Without a flash maybe you'd be shooting at 1/1000th of a second or faster. With the flash you'd expect to shoot FASTER but, because of the slower flash sync, you're shooting slower. That slower speed means more light and that gives you a white image. To compensate, either use a filter to dim the entire scene or look into a camera with a faster flash sync speed. Unfortunately, faster is more expensive. |
Question: | Can this flash be fired by the Canon 60D internal flash control off camera |
Answer: | Yes. The 60D uses the Canon E-TTL flash system which fires a pre-flash to test exposure. You can set the TT560 to ignore this pre-flash. You won't get flash metering control via the camera, but it can trigger these flashes off camera. However, my own testing shows this flash only outputs 40% of the claimed power, so be aware of that issue as well. |

Question: | Is this flash compatible with the Canon EOS Rebel SL |
Answer: | I'm assuming its compatible with all canon dslrs. |
Question: | Thinking of using this as a backlight strobe slaved off a t4i. Will it have sufficient juice and recharge time for something like a headstshot shoot |
Answer: | I have both this flash and the 430EX, and I personally would not use this one for portraits unless I had no other option. It kind of depends on how you plan to use it? If you don't mind waiting or watching to make sure it is charged, then it would work fine. When I have done interior portraits I used a simple studio strobe setup and have used my 430EX in concert with these and it worked well, Recharge times on strobes are really pretty quick in comparison to either of these flashes, but the 430EX was fast enough for me. However, I have used my 270 EXII as a fill flash for outdoor portraits, and I was not satisfied. When I take portraits I like to try and capture the moment when a smile is good or when the look in the eye is just right or whatever and sometimes that requires taking the photos in quick succession. I had not been bothered or noticed any lag with the 270EXII prior to this so, when I recently wanted to get some outdoor portraits of my kids, I chose to bring it instead of the 430EX. I felt this was one of two mistakes I made that day. My second mistake was to not use fresh batteries and I found it very frustrating. Luckily I had new batteries, and I popped them in. This helped a lot, but I still found that when I used the 270EXII, I had to wait more than I would have liked, and I feel that I missed some shots and made everyone more frustrated because it took longer. I had several photos where I took the shot, but the flash was not recharged enough and did not fire (even with the new batteries). This was a learning experience for me and I will be bringing my 430EX in the future for this type of shooting. Always also have one or two sets of spare batteries as well.As for your question of having enough juice for a backlight strobe, I guess that would depend on your lighting scenario. I suspect that it would be fine for a highlight type of backlight. My 430EX definitely worked well in that scenario, but I have never tried the 270EXII. I am not as sure how well it would work for a backlight on the background. I have used the 430EX for that successfully, but seem to remember that it did not work as well as when I used the studio strobes (although I think some of that may have been more the light spread than the power). The 270EXII is even less configurable and powerful, so I would not do it unless I had no other option. if you are trying to decide on this or something like the 430, I would spend the extra money on the 430. If that is not an option and you want this flash for other reasons, than I suppose it would not hurt to try it as long as you understand the potential pitfalls.I hope this helps. |

Built-in video lights are not even an option on most cameras. This external flash with LED video light offers power and versatility you need, resulting in consistently better pictures and higher quality video.

Take control of the lighting around you with the Nikon SB-300 AF Speedlight for D-SLRs and hot-shoe equipped Coolpix cameras. Find new inspiration: use the 120° tilting head to bounce the flash off a nearby wall or ceiling (bounce flash), eliminate unwanted shadows on your subject (fill-flash) or illuminate a poorly lit scene with a soft, balanced light tailored to your shot. Shed Light on New Opportunities With the SB-300 AF Speedlight, you'll enjoy a flash that's soft and balanced for excellent color, skin tones and lighting throughout your entire composition-not just on your main subject. Use it in bright situations to fill in unwanted shadows (fill-flash), or use its 120° tilt capability to bounce your flash off the ceiling or a nearby wall for even softer, less direct lighting on your subject (bounce technique). Outstanding Flash Precision Nikons i-TTL (intelligent Through-The-Lens) flash coverage technology tailors the characteristic of the flash to the shot. An imperceptible pre-flash fires milliseconds before the main flash to gather information about the scene-shadow areas, subject distance and reflectance. Your i-TTL capable camera and the SB-300 AF Speedlight then work together to achieve the best exposure and white balance setting possible, all in a fraction of a second.

Question: | Does this works perfectly with Nikon Z |
Answer: | Yes. Any lens with the old Minolta AF mount will work on the a350 |
Question: | Does it work with older Nikon film cameras, e.g. FG |
Answer: | I too have a Minolta camera 35mm film. I bought this DSLRA350 with the idea that my Minolta lens would fit this new camera. They do not. This is still an excellent camera but you will need to buy lens to fit it. I have been very happy with Tamron AF 18-200mm. I bought it through Amazon.com. I also bought Tamron AF 70-300mm. |
Question: | Will this flash work with a Nikon D |
Answer: | Hello, the lens will not be compatible as-is, it will necessitate an adapter from A to E mount. The camera will switch to APS-C mode. |
Question: | Will this flash work with my Nikon D |
Answer: | It attaches via the standard A mount. I looked and a200 uses A mount, so it should not be a problem |
