User questions & answers

Question: This particular (nikon p1000) offering from amazon is not "bundled" with any extra items. does it at least come with a standard lens shade/hood
Answer: Yes, it comes with a lens hood, battery, cable, and camera strap. The cable is used primarily to charge the battery in the camera, Not much else to really bundle it with. I did buy a couple of batteries and a charger and a collapsible rubber hood. If you go to Nikon USA website and download the P1000 info you can get a copy of the camera's manual showing everything.
Question: Are there threads on the lens so that a polarizing and other type filters can be used
Answer: Yes, but you will find that many p1000 users believe that filters mess with the autofocus on this camera, particularly when using the super zoom. I opted instead for clear protective glass in the 77mm size.
Question: What comes with the p1000? charger? remote? i have a p900 and can’t hardly wait for the p
Answer: Jennifer's answer is correct. However, the included "Charger" is just an AC-to-USB power source that you connect a Micro USB cord to and then the Micro USB cord's male connector connects to the female Micro USB port in the camera.. Nikon includes the USB cord, but since the battery remains in the camera, you can stick any Micro USB cord into the camera and it will charge. You will definitely want to get the MH-29 battery charger (or generic equivalent that charges EN-EL20a batteries) that you would actually remove the battery from the camera to insert into the MH-29 for charging. And yes, it is wise to have at least 2 fully-charged batteries at the start of a day of shooting.
Question: How does the 3000 mm equivalent compare to the P900's 83X, and i mean specifically. Thanks
Answer: It is simple math : P900 : 24-2000 35mm equivalent = 2000/24 = 83X P1000: 24-3000 35mm equivalent = 3000/24 = 125X I also like to think a lens in term of zoom compared to the human vision, that is around 50mm for a 35mm equivalent ( matching perpective, the field of view of the human is almost 180° ). In that case : P900 : 2000/50 = 40X P1000 : 3000/50 = 60X That's a 50% improvement on range :) The sensor is the same, but the P1000 close at F8, that is slower than the P900 at his max zoom. They improved the VR on the new model, so it is unknown if it is a real issue or not in practice.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the insane optical zoom a bit of a gimmick
Answer: The Nikon Coolpix 520 has a "Night Mode" option. Just choose the "Scene Selector then choose the "Night Portrait Mode."
Question: When will the p900 be available on Amazon
Answer: Yes, the camera records in MP4 format, but for more information visit http://techexperience.net/go/nikon/
Question: Does is shoot RAW
Answer: The Sports setting is a sub-setting of Scene mode, in which the camera makes most decisions for you and leaves you with limited ability to change the settings. With Sports, the P520 sets itself for continuous shooting in a burst of 7 shots. If you want to have more than 7 shots in a sequence, you would have to use a different shooting mode, such as Program, and then select continuous shooting from the Shooting menu, choosing the L option for up to 30 shots at high quality but lower speed, or one of the super-high-speed options for 60 shots at a very fast speed, but much lower quality. The monitor goes black because there is not enough time to keep refreshing it with the live view during the continuous shooting.
Question: Can you live stream with this camera
Answer: no raw

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have auto focus?? Ive heard it only has manual focus
Answer: Yes, it has auto focus as well as manual focus. There are three auto-focus settings: Pre Focus (camera focuses when it detects movement), Single AF (camera focuses only when the shutter button is pressed halfway) and Full-Time AF (camera tries to focus even when the shutter button is not pressed halfway).
Question: is the lens threaded
Answer: Yes, the lens is threaded--but not fully. There are three equally-spaced threaded portions on the inside of the 52mm lens end. Why in the world Nikon opted for this screwy (no pun intended) threading convention over a normal fully-threaded lens end is beyond me. On my B700, I have screwed a Sigma 52mm WR UV Filter into the lens end with a Goja 52-67MM Step-Up Adapter Ring screwed into the filter and then a Goja 67MM lens hood screwed into the 67mm end of the step-up ring. I've only had this setup on the camera for one day, but I worry that the B700's not-fully-threaded lens end will not handle this load. (NOTE: the Sigma 52mm UV filter is a skosh smaller in outside diameter than the B700's lens barrel, so it doesn't interfere at all with the lens fully contracting when the camera is powered off. Given that the step-up ring is threaded into the front face of the UV filter, it also doesn't interfere with the lens fully contracting, and nor does the tulip lens hood.)
Question: Will this camera support filters? If so, what size are would they need to be
Answer: Yes and they need to be 52mm.I added a UV/Haze filter and it works just fine.
Question: Remote shutter? Is there a remote shutter relase that is compatible with this camera
Answer: The COOLPIX B700 uses the Snapbridge app that enables you to connect it to a smart device that is either iOS or Android based. From there you can control the camera's shutter remotely on the device. Nikon does not have any other remote shutter option.

User questions & answers

Question: x zoom, how much is optical (digital is worthless) and what is the range (i.e., 25mm-500mm) optical
Answer: This according to Nikon: NIKKOR lens with 30x optical zoom; 4.0-120.0 mm (35mm 135 format equivalent: 22.5-675 mm); f/3.0-5.8
Question: Are you getting good pictures with the camera
Answer: I have gotten some great pictures from it. I notice that the close ups are sometimes blurry so I have to back off until the screen clears. I would say normally good pictures.
Question: Would you recommend this camera for taking pictures on an African safari? Do you think it would adequately capture mountain gorillas in low-light settings? We're deciding between this camera and the SX50, so any input would be greatly appreciated
Answer: I had the same choice. I went Nikon and am very happy. Although I have never taken photos of gorillas in low light I have taken photos of my children who can occasionally behave as such in low light. This camera is superb. After owning 10 years worth of nothing but Cannons I finally strayed from the reservation and bought this Nikon after three months worth of contemplation. I am very happy. The 3D effect for very still shot photos might be some of the sharpest non professional photos I have ever seen. I would buy this again, or take on an African safari knowing the zoom will be a huge asset. Best of luck on whatever you decide.
Question: Hello, why the red version of this camera have a shipping weight of 3 pounds and the same camera in black have a shipping weight of 4 pounds?, thanks
Answer: Shipping weights are estimated by sellers and include packing materials. If the seller that posts the weight just guesses or uses more packaging than the others then there could be discrepancies. To address your concern, the red and black versions weigh the same. If the seller you're buying from is charging shipping by weight, contact them and ask them to make an adjustment ot buy from a seller with a flat rate shipping fee.

Review from dpreview.com

Nikon D40 Digital SLR: Highly Recommended by dpreview.com

The Nikon D40 is an affordable, compact, point-and-shoot digital SLR from Nikon, it follows on from the D50 but at a significantly lower price point and with a subtly different feature set. The biggest news however is probably fact that Nikon resisted the temptation to keep chasing megapixels (hooray for that) and instead appear to have concentrated on what makes a good camera, a decent viewfinder, short shutter lag, very short viewfinder blackout. They've trimmed some of the 'less important features' (you can't change the exposure steps for example) but have squeezed a range of new features such as custom Auto ISO which we welcomed with the D80.

Auto Focus only for AF-S or AF-I lenses

Perhaps the biggest negative on the D40 is that it doesn't have an internal focus drive motor and hence no mechanical focus drive pin, instead it only has CPU contacts which means it can only Auto Focus with AF-S and AF-I lenses (those with built-in focus motors). Indeed our 'standard' lens the Nikkor 50 mm F1.8D (and the F1.4D) are manual focus only on the D40. The images below show the difference between the mount on the D40 and D80, the D80 has a mechanical focus drive pin at about the 7 o'clock position.

Key features
  • 6 megapixel DX format CCD (1.5x FOV crop, as D50)
  • Nikon Image processing engine (as D80 / D200)
  • 3D Color Matrix Metering II, 420 pixel sensor (as D80 / D50)
  • New Multi-CAM530 three area AF sensor
  • ISO sensitivity range 200 - 1600 plus HI 1 (3200 equiv.)
  • Custom Auto ISO (selectable maximum ISO, minimum shutter speed)
  • 2.5 fps continuous shooting (as D50), unlimited in JPEG
  • No status LCD, new LCD monitor based status / settings screens
  • Help suggestions on LCD monitor (eg. scene too dark, try using flash)
  • Large 2.5" 230,000 pixel LCD monitor
  • Bigger viewfinder view (x0.8 magnification, 95% coverage)
  • Short shutter lag and viewfinder blackout
  • Support for SDHC (SD cards over 2 GB in capacity)
  • In-camera retouching: D-Lighting (shadow / highlight enhancement), Red-eye reduction, Trimming, Monochrome, Filter effects, Small picture, Image overlay
  • USB 2.0 with PTP and Mass Storage device support
  • Very compact, light body (smaller, lighter than D50)
  • Improved menu user interface (as D80 / D200)
  • New EN-EL9 Lithium-Ion battery (7.2V, 1000 mAh)
  • New 'Version II' AF-S DX 18-55 mm kit lens
Compared to the Nikon D50, major feature and specification differences

Nikon's choice of "compromises" with the D40 are switching to a new three area AF sensor (although it seems to be just as fast), removing some of the flexibility (you can't change the CW average area, exposure steps are fixed at 1/3 EV and there's no bracketing) and removing the status LCD (although this has more to do with making the camera smaller than saving money). What the D40 shares with the D50 are some of the important things, the six megapixel sensor, the 420 pixel metering sensor (also used on the D80), the more 'consumer like' default IIIa color mode and 2.5 frames per second continuous shooting (although now unlimited in JPEG mode).

On the plus side you get ISO 3200 equiv. (HI 1), the ever useful customizable Auto ISO, a larger viewfinder view, shorter shutter lag and viewfinder blackout, a larger LCD monitor, a considerably nicer user interface, SDHC support, a new image processing engine, unlimited JPEG continuous shooting, in-camera retouching (including D-Lighting) and of course a smaller and lighter body. It would not therefore be fair to describe the D40 as a 'dumbed down' D50, far from it, the range of improvements and new features out-weigh those which have been removed or reduce, which would most likely not be missed by the average D40 owner.

User questions & answers

Question: Hello! all comments are very old. is this camera still on sale? how much does it cost to ship to israel
Answer: Kim, yes, you can. Only have to be careful not to let dust in. the trick is to have camera facing downward while changing lenses. The lens that comes in a kit is awesome for the price and many people will not need anything else. it is perfect for travel photography. Not fast enough for shooting in extreme low light. I'd recommend buying one prime (fixed legth) lens for that purpose.
Question: can you interchange lenses
Answer: Ideally you will require a high power external flash to 'freeze' the motion, and that can be expensive for a Nikon model. Depending on how much ambient light you have in the gym/arena you can, as an alternative, try cranking up the ISO to 1600, set exposure mode to S which will force camera to use highest available shutter speeds and see what happens - preferably at a training session. If you still get blur, you'll need that expensive flash to 'freeze' the motion as the built-in one is nowhere near powerful enough. The SPORTS mode is fine outdoors but won't help in poor lighting conditions.
Question: How do you take action shots indoor at Volleyball games without them being blurry
Answer: The mount for the D series is the same as all Nikon's dslr's and slr's. Compatability is limited by the features of the lens. One problem with new lenses is the automatic features of the lens ( motors inside the lens for focus and iris) and the ability of the D40 to actuate them. Having said that, I have a Nikon D-40 with a Nikon DX SWM ED Aspherical auto focus 18-55 that works just fine with the camera. Another issue is the focal point/image size that is introduced to your sensor. User questions & answers

Question: My digital camera has a delay between pushing the shutter button and the photo actually being snapped. What is the response time of this camera
Answer: Yes
Question: does it come with lens cover
Answer: If you are vloging no because the screen doesn’t flip back for you to see yourself and if you want good sound no because no audio port but it’s good otherwise
Question: Is this camera good in low light situations
Answer: It's fine for nature, sunsets and landscapes. It's not good for sports, because it only shoots 3 frames per second doesn't have the best lens for sports. It would do OK for sports outside in full sun, but you might want to get the kit that has the 70-300mm lens. It will do badly at indoor sports events.
Question: Can you take close up macro shots with this camera
Answer: yes it comes with both

Ricoh

Product description

1. Heavy-duty construction assuring underwater shooting down to 14 meters, for up to two hours The solid, airtight body common to the WG-70 is not only waterproof down to a depth of 14 meters for up to two hours of continuous operation (equivalent to IPX 8 or JIS Class 8), but is also shockproof against falls from a height of 1. 6 meters, * dustproof (equivalent to IPX 6 or JIS Class 6), freeze-proof to temperatures as low as -10°C, and crushproof against weights up to 100kgf (kilogram force). ** Thanks to this heavy-duty construction, the cameras perform superbly and dependably even in harsh, demanding outdoor conditions. 2. Exceptional image quality The WG-70 comes equipped with a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, which assures excellent high-sensitivity and low-noise characteristics and high-speed readout of image data signals. Coupled with a high-performance imaging engine, this image sensor delivers a top sensitivity of ISO 6400 and super-high-resolution images with approximately 16. 0 effective megapixels. These models also provide advanced image processing functions, made possible by the latest super-resolution technology, to assure sharp, clear, high-resolution images. They even offer such innovative features as Handheld Night Snap mode, which automatically captures several images of the same nighttime scene and produces a single, blur-free composite image from them. 3. Improved usability of Digital Microscope mode The WG-70 has a Digital Microscope mode that allows the subject to be greatly enlarged. Usability is improved as the recording size can be newly selected from 2M (1920 x 1080), which gives priority to enlargement with digital zoom, to a maximum of 12M (16: 9) (4608 x 2592), which is useful when printing or trimming with high resolution which further expands the field of shooting. 4. Six Macro Lights to assist close-up shooting, with various functions Ideally positioned around the circumference of the lens barrel for macro shooting, six LED Macro Lights allow the WG-70 to provide bright, uniform illumination on a subject when the Digital Microscope mode is selected. *** Thanks to these Macro Lights, the user can clearly see a magnified view of the microscopic world undetectable by the naked eye on the camera’s LCD monitor, and effortlessly capture eye-catching, close-up images. In order to minimize camera shake and subject shake, the Instant Illumination Enhance function allows for the use of a higher shutter speed by automatically raising the discharge level of the Macro Lights at the moment of shutter release. The Macro Lights also provide other useful functions, such as a Self-Portrait Assist mode, which uses the blink of an LED lamp to check if the subject’s face has been safely captured within the picture frame, and the LED Lighting mode, which uses the Macro Lights as a lighting device in the dark. 5. Advanced underwater shooting mode Specifically designed for underwater photography, the image processing of Underwater and Underwater Movie shooting modes optimize color, contrast, and white balance, based on the data of images captured under the water. These modes deliver sharp, true-to-life images by enhancing shades of red, which are lost in underwater photography, while effectively compensating for the loss of contrast caused by the diffusion of light in water. During Underwater mode, the Flash Off + Flash On option, allows the user to consecutively capture two images — with a single shutter release — one without flash and another with flash. 6. Cross Processing added to Image Tone Cross Processing is an effect popular among our products, which allows you to enjoy unique photographic expressions. With WG-70, this mode is added to Image Tone, which can be selected with several shooting modes including, P (Program). The parameters of the image is adjusted to give a unique color-changed finish, like a cross-processed film ***. 7. 5X optical zoom lens with a 28mm wide-angle coverage The WG-70 feature a high-performance, five-times optical zoom lens with a focal-length coverage from 5mm to 25mm (equivalent to approx. 28mm to 140mm in the 35mm format) to accommodate a wide range of scenes and subjects, including sweeping landscapes. They also provide other convenient shooting functions, such as a macro mode to capture dramatic close-up images from a minimum focusing distance of a mere one centimeter; an Intelligent Zoom function to extend the zoom range to approximately 36 times (equivalent to 1008mm in the 35mm format) without compromising image quality, for superior telephoto photography; and an interval shooting mode, which comes in handy for fixed-point observation. 8. Full HD movie recording for extended shooting of high-quality movies The WG-70 provides Full HD movie recording employing the H. 264 recording format. Users can capture high-quality, extended movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16: 9 proportions) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. To add some creative touches to movie recording, they also feature a high-speed camera function**** for slow-motion playback of captured movie clips, and an interval movie function. A micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) is also provided on the camera body for simultaneous output of Full HD movie clips and sound to external audio-visual devices. 9. Triple anti-shake protection to prevent blurred images in all applications Pixel Track SR mechanism When recording still images, this advanced shake-reduction mechanism effectively compensates for camera shake by digitally processing affected images. Digital SR mode When the camera detects low-lighting conditions in still-image shooting, this mode automatically raises the sensitivity up to as high as ISO 6400, making it possible to use a higher shutter speed and effectively minimize the adverse effect of camera shake and subject shake when dealing with poor lighting conditions. Movie SR mode During movie recording, this mode effectively compensates for the misalignment of images caused by camera shake through the use of exclusive software to produce beautiful, blur-free movie clips. 10. 2. 7-inch LCD monitor with the Outdoor View Setting mode The WG-60 come equipped 2. 7-inch LCD monitor with horizontally extended 16: 9 proportions and approximately 230, 000 dots. The monitor’s AR (Anti-Reflection) coating minimizes annoying glare and reflections to assure a sharp, clear on-screen image even in the harsh sunshine often encountered during outdoor shooting. It also comes equipped with such convenient features as: the Outdoor View Setting mode, which easily sets the optimum monitor brightness level for a given lighting condition 11. Other features ・A range of WG-series mount accessories (optional) to accommodate diverse camera setups ・Two remote control receptors (one in front and another in the back) to widen signal coverage ・Macro stand (included) to maintain a minimum focusing distance of one centimeter to the subject during extended observation and shooting of macro images ・High-speed Face Detection function to capture as many as 32 faces in focus in approximately 0. 03 seconds (minimum); Smile Capture function to automatically release the shutter when the subject’s smile is detected ・Outdoor-friendly Style Watch function to display the time on the LCD monitor, using an extended push of the OK button when the camera’s power is turned off ・Delay-free, pushbutton start of the playback mode, using an extended push of the playback button ・Auto Picture mode to automatically select the most appropriate shooting mode from 16 different scene modes ・A choice of 12 digital filters

  • HIGH RESOLUTION WITH ALL THE MUST-HAVE FEATURES: With a high-performance image processing engine and a back-illuminated CMOS sensor boasting high optical efficiency and an effective 16 megapixel, the WG-70 takes low-noise photos with a wide dynamic range that look beautiful even as prints.
