If you power up the camera without taking off the lens cover, it gives a 'lens error'. Only way is to put off and put on the camera again. Hopefully its a software issue that they can fix. |

| Answer: | I am amazed that someone incorrectly answered "No" to this question!! The correct answer is: Yes, when "Use built-in location data" in "Location data options" in the location data options menu is set to "On", the W300 camera starts receiving signals from positioning satellites and will embed location data in each image's EXIF metadata. This is the main purpose of having a GPS/GLONASS receiver in a camera! But note that the accuracy of the location data will depend on how many satellites the camera is receiving signals from, and if you are in a place that blocks satellite signals, location data will not be recorded. When the camera is receiving signals, an icon appears on the monitor that indicates how many satellites signals are being received from, and thus how accurate the location data will be. For the most accurate location data, you should wait to take a photo until the monitor indicates that signals are being received from three or more satellites, which in my experience takes a couple of seconds after the camera is turned on. |

| Answer: | This problem seems to keep going on in the Nikon Coolpix cameras. I have had an AW100 that didn't have this problem, then bought an AW 120 and this is when I first heard this noise. Thinking it was something loose inside, I took it back to trade it for another one. After the salesperson and I went through 6 other AW120s, and found that they ALL had the same issue. I took one of the cameras home and contacted Nikon and they said something about this noise in the camera and they were working on fixing this issue. Well, somebody must have dropped the ball because this issue has turned up in the AW130s and now I am reading that this issue is in the NEW W300. Come on Nikon, you have a great camera just figure out this f#$**%g problem and fix it. People who spend 400 bucks on a new camera dont want one that rattles. Fix the dam problem!!!! |

| Answer: | In a way it does. You have to remember that with high end cameras, everything you want to achieve is done through manual settings and through the use of lenses. I have not gotten the full hang of it yet, but if you buy a lenses with a low F stop, you can produce the "portrait" mode effect. I recently purchased a 25 mm lense with an F stop that can go to f2, this produces a great effect to blur out the background, but keep the subject in focus. You also have to understand the lenses, again, I am still an amateur at best, and just bumbling with settings, but I am learning as I have had a lot of friends ask me to do some boudoir shoots for them. The stock lens that comes in this kit can produce a slightly blurred background, but it wont achieve the same effect as the software modified camera phones. Remember though, what you produce with this camera, or others like it, will give you greater pixel depth to allow for larger printed pictures without the pixelated (dot look) camera phone images will produce. You can achieve some of the same effects with the right kind of software, in post processing. |

| Answer: | Hi there, nearly all of the nikkor lenses are compatible with this body. However, as an owner of all the current available FX bodies except the D5, I would not recommend a super zoom like the 28-300 on a powerful camera like this. This is a pro body to die for and unless you’re using this to travel and do not want to change lenses, that lens would be doing the camera a disservice. You should research the sweet spot of that lens because the longer end of the focal length is even less sharp. All super zooms make a lot of compromises and as a result they are far from the sharpest. I would honestly trade it in or sell it if this is your only body. This is not my favorite lens at all but the 24-120 f/4 VR would be a better choice and they’re pretty inexpensive. I’ve gotten great results with that lens in my raw files rather than a super zoom. You can also try the Sigma 24-105 but what you really want is as low of an f stop constant aperture as possible but I don’t own that one. I do own the new Tamron G2 series and I can’t recommend that enough. They really stepped up and the image quality is amazing especially for the value. For an optimal lens I consider f/4 or f/2.8 is ideal if you plan to deal with indoor and low light scenarios. If you’re married to this lens, you don’t need this body. A D610 or a D7500/7200 is probably a better choice. I can maybe stretch it to a D500 but that camera is too powerful for that lens. You’ll save several thousand dollars and the waitlist if you go that route. Bottom line: putting a 28-300 on this camera is like having a Ferrari body and putting a Corolla motor inside of it. Defeats the purpose. The camera is overkill for a lens like that. You have options. Best of luck. |
