User questions & answers
Question: | I cannot see thru the telescope even after taking all caps off it is stil blank image |
Answer: | We are having the same issue. It’s been properly set up but even after allowing it to come to temperatures outside, there is nothing we’re seeing. We’ve adjusted magnification, tried different lens, still blank. And yes, all the caps are off too. I have a curious, yet disappointment kiddo on my hands. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
Question: | I can’t get the the telescope to lock in place when we find something to look at, how is this done |
Answer: | You have to use the little knob that looks like a T and also the long handle bar (you turn the handle bar right to tighten and left to loosen. They are both apart of the stand. |
Question: | Is this user friendly as described ? Since im a beginner is this the right fit for me |
Answer: | I set it up in 5 minutes. I observed the Moon, Venus and Cassini twin stars (actually quad) with in 30 minutes on 25 mm. I have never owned a telescope in my life. The instructions are pictures describing what part goes where under them. How to set up your phone is a bit of a mess but I understood and decided to address that later. I was too excited to see Venus, and then sad when it looked like a big star, lol. There is another way to set it up to see even closer images, so I’ll be experimenting. I want a bigger one now... lol 😂. I’m managing my expectations on the 3X with 10mm parts. I just want to see it all! |
Question: | Is this good for photographing an eagle 100 yards away |
Answer: | As long as the Eagle is stationary, yes. This comes with a 10mm and 25mm eyepiece. I think the 10mm would work. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this product come with a stand |
Answer: | Yes, the tripod and mount with attachable smartphone dock is included with this telescope. Please note that the cradle is shipped rotated 180 degrees to prevent the locking knob from damaging the box in transit, so you will need to rotate the mounting cradle 180 degrees (using the knob as a lever) before attaching the scope and phone dock. |
Question: | Can i take pictures or video with my smart phone through celestron – starsense explorer dx 130az |
Answer: | Because of the way the StarSense Explorer bracket and App work, the phone running the App is connected off to one side and is not actually looking through the telescope itself. If the phone is removed from the bracket, the telescope’s pointing will not work until it is put back into the bracket in the same orientation. It is possible to temporarily remove your phone and use a smartphone adapter like the Celestron NexYZ adapter to attach it to the eyepiece for exposures of bright objects like the moon and planets, but it would not be possible to have the StarSense Explorer also directing the telescope at the same time. A second phone or camera attached to the telescope at the same time would be needed to make this work. |
Question: | Can i see the rings of saturn and cloud bands of jupiter and the great red spot with the starsense explorer 114lt |
Answer: | I use the 25mm for best views, but I finally tried the 10mm on Jupiter and it worked to enlarge clearly. Although no color or bands. I can see 3 of it's 4 moons. It's good to get with others and I've found lots of info on cloudynights dot com. Although, it depends so much on so many things, like light-pollution, atmospheric conditions not just of Earth, but of other planets. Most folks recommend reading, reading and more reading on the skies so that first, we know where things are, things we are likely to be able to see. Don't give up, the more you learn by doing, the more things you will see. My opinion is the Starsense 130 DX AZ is a good beginner telescope, but it really hasn't given me more than I got with another that was 179.00. I love the app though, it is fun, but I also realize I need to make adjustments and learn more about eyepieces, the best places to view from etc. Star Parties, I pray we get past this Covid thing so we can really gather again and learn, in person, with others. |
Question: | Can I take pictures with this telescope |
Answer: | It is indeed possible to take pictures with this telescope, but you will need a second phone or camera and an adapter for either smartphones or your camera. The camera that attaches to the dock and uses the StarSense Explorer App is not looking through the telescope at all. |

Ensure maximum light transmission without loss of optical quality with the Celestron Dielectric Star Diagonal, 2” with Twist-Lock. Upgrade your existing star diagonal to this premium one and enjoy brighter, sharper images without purchasing an entirely new telescope. This star diagonal reflects the telescope’s light path 90° to provide a more comfortable viewing angle. In addition, the glass has 58 layers of dielectric coatings, which provide an over 99% reflective surface, delivering the maximum amount of light to the eyepiece. This 2” star diagonal has the added benefit of allowing you to use larger 2” eyepieces with your telescope, providing a wider field of view, or standard 1. 25” eyepieces with the stepdown adapter. The twist-lock eyepiece holder secures eyepieces while keeping them centered in the diagonal, thus providing best opto-mechanical alignment between the telescope and eyepiece. Unlike traditional thumb screws, the twist-lock cannot scratch or engrave the barrel of your eyepieces. The diagonal has an integrated 2” barrel stop that prevents 2” accessories with long barrels from damaging the mirror. All the diagonal’s mechanical parts are made of machined black anodized aluminum, except the twist lock rings, which are orange anodized for visibility. The interior of the Schmidt-Cassegrain adapter and 2” barrel are glare threaded and painted flat black to prevent glare. With all its features and these high-end finishes, the Celestron Dielectric Star Diagonal, 2” with Twist-Lock is one of the highest quality 2" star diagonals that Celestron has ever offered. This diagonal also comes with two interchangeable barrels to provide flexibility in connecting the diagonal to a wide variety of telescopes without the need for additional adapters. For telescopes, like refractors, which accept 2” barrels in their focuser, a standard 2” barrel is included. For Schmidt-Cass grains (SCTs) that use a threaded connection to the focuser, a barrel with SCT threads is included. Both barrels thread onto the diagonal housing, providing a secure connection to the diagonal. The key specifications for a star diagonal are its reflectivity and its optical quality. This diagonal delivers top performance in both categories, with an over 99% reflective mirror and diffraction-limited optical quality. This ensures that virtually all the light collected by the telescope will reach the eyepiece without the diagonal affecting optical performance. Using a lower quality star diagonal can both dim the view and degrade optical quality. You can enjoy better views from your telescope by simply swapping out its diagonal for a premium one, like the Celestron Dielectric Star Diagonal.
- Enjoy better views through your telescope with this premium diagonal featuring diffraction-limited optics and dielectric coatings
- Provides a 90° viewing angle, perfect for more comfortable viewing through refractor and cass grain-type telescopes
- 58 layers of dielectric coatings provide an over 99% reflective surface, ensuring the maximum amount of light collected by the telescope reaches the eyepiece
- Twist-lock keeps the eyepiece centered in the diagonal to provide better optical alignment
- Includes a Stepdown adapter, so the diagonal accepts eyepieces, Barlow lenses, threaded filters, and other accessories in both 2” and 1. 25” sizes
User questions & answers
Question: | The barrel does not come off with twisting it. Is there anothervway of gettingbthe barrel removed |
Answer: | The twisting is for the compressing around and securing an eye piece, not for removing the diagonal. Loosen to install an eyepiece, then tighten to secure the eye piece. |
Question: | Where is the stepdown adapter? I cannot see how my 1.25" eyepieces can work with this 2" diagonal |
Answer: | It comes with a 2" to 1.25" adapter. Should be included in the box. |
Question: | WIll this connect to a celstron nextar 4se |
Answer: | Ed, If you are asking if the diagonal will fit, yes. Any 1 1/4” diameter eyepiece will fit. The real problem is first the weight of the eyepiece you will use plus this diagonal’s weight. I’m not sure if the drive of the 4se will track properly. Second, if the telescope is pointed toward the zenith, the length of your eyepiece plus the diagonal may touch the base of the telescope. I own several larger Celestrons and this is not an issue. Touch base with Astronomics Co in Oklahoma. They are a large distributer and may have ideas for you. This diagonal is a 7-8 on a 10 scale for quality and would be nice for your scope. |
Question: | Does celestron 93573 dielectric star diagonal compatible with telescope nexstar 127slt |
Answer: | Yes, if you order the 1.25 inch version. The Nextstar 127 takes a 1.25 inch diagonal, so you will need the 1.25 inch version of the Celestron 93573. |
Product description
The Celestron Star Pointer Finderscope is the way to go if you want the easiest way possible to locate an object and center it in your eyepiece. A red dot finder, unlike an optical finder, has 1x magnification, displays a super wide field of view, and keeps the sky right side up and left-to-right correct, matching what you see with your unaided eyes. An LED creates a red dot, superimposed on a viewing screen, so you simply point the Star Pointer to the area or object you wish to observe, look through your eyepiece, and if properly aligned, the area in and around place you pointed the red dot will be centered in the field of view. If you like the idea of having some magnification, try installing both a red dot and optical finder on your telescope. Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD telescopes have multiple mounting bracket holes so you can get the best of both worlds. Just make sure to align both of them correctly, and you’ll get the best use out of each of your finders. How to Align the Star Pointer Finderscope The first time you use your finder, you need to align it. This one-time setup procedure should be done during the day. Take the telescope outside and find an easily recognizable object, such as a streetlight, car license plate, or tall tree. The object should be as far away as possible, but at least a quarter mile away. Move the telescope left and right or up and down so that it is roughly pointing at the object. Look through the telescope using your low power eyepiece and move the telescope until the object you chose lies in the center of the view. Once the object is centered in your eyepiece, turn on the red dot. With your head positioned about a foot behind the finder, look through the round lens of the finder and locate the red dot. Without moving the telescope, use the two adjustment knobs located on the side and underneath the finder. One controls the left-right motion of the dot. The other controls the up-down motion of the dot. Adjust both of these until the red dot appears over the same object you are observing in the eyepiece. Your finder is now aligned and should not require realignment unless it is bumped or dropped. You can even take the finder off the telescope and reattach it while preserving alignment.
- The Star Pointer Finderscope adds “point and look” functionality to any telescope!
- This red dot finder keeps the sky right-side up, matching what you see with your unaided eyes
- The adjustable red dot is bright enough to see day or night
- Attaches to just about any telescope thanks to the small footprint, even works great with astronomical binoculars and spotting scopes
- Includes mounting base and a long-lasting CR2032 3V battery
User questions & answers
Question: | Can this attach to Skywatcher 10 in dobsonian |
Answer: | It comes with several different adapters to connect it. |
Question: | Can this be mounted on a Celestron funscope |
Answer: | It should. I mounted mine on my AstroMaster 70EQ. It works great! |
Question: | Is this mounted by dovetail or otherwise |
Answer: | It has a base that attaches to the scope. Then the site slides into a dove tail mount on the base |
Question: | Does this fit witg meade etx telescopes |
Answer: | It comes with a long and short foot with dovetail, so it should fit any telescope with somewhere to affix it. If you have an available dovetail, great; if you don't want to drill holes just stick it on with some double sided tape - it's very light. Keep in mind though that I hardly use it anymore, because I got a Telrad finder, which makes finding and centering objects way, but way easier. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What items are included in this package |
Answer: | The main unit, a detachable lighted Polaris alignment finder and telescope mount. Still needed to function as a astrophoto unit is the equatorial base, counterweight and ball head mount. |
Question: | Should i get this or the ioptron sky tracker |
Answer: | I'm THRILLED with the Sky-Watcher. Offers better payload capacity and it's a solid design for its size. I use it with the counter weights and have put a Canon 7DmkII with battery grip and a 400mm lens---have great results with long-exposure tracking shots. I also own the iOptron, but I couldn't get a proper alignment with it my first try and wasn't really impressed with its design by comparison. It's collecting dust, but I don't have the desire to use it, as I enjoy the Sky-Watcher so much. If you're not looking for heavy camera loads on a tracker, check out Polarie star tracker. That is hands-down the greatest tracker for ease of use and portability. Clear skies! |
Question: | What the difference between the astro and the photo package |
Answer: | the astro package has the declination bracket where you can attach a small telescope. The photo package comes with an generic ball head adapter to attach a camera. |
Question: | If this device needs to be calibrated to the north star how would it be used to track the sun, say for the recent solar eclipse |
Answer: | It can be done without aligning with the north star but certainly not with the same accuracy. So here is what I did to photograph the 2017 eclipse from beginning to end taking images at one minute intervals. I used my GPS to determine my latitude which was 44.66 degrees north. I then set the tilt of the unit to 45.33 degrees so that the sum of the two angles would equal 90 degrees. I then used a good compass to determine which direction was North. Since I had 15 degrees of magnetic declination, I compensated for that and aligned the unit as closely as possible to North as I could. You will have to determine the magnetic declination for your intended viewing area beforehand as I don’t know of any way to determine that during daylight. (I’m sure there are ways, I just don’t know them.) I was able to capture the eclipse from beginning to end with minimal drift in the images taken. Like I said, it’s not the most accurate method but it worked for me. I hope this helps. |

Durable, accurate and reliable brass and aluminum gearing allows for greater accuracy and longer exposures. Boasting a 144-tooth wheel gear and a 13mm diameter worm gear, the Star Adventurer has a payload capacity of 11 pounds, strong enough for a full-size DSLR or a small telescope.
Built-In Polar Alignment Scope with Illuminator
Even for users with no polar alignment experience, the Star Adventurer is easy to setup using the included illuminated polar finderscope. Once aligned, users can attach their camera and activate sidereal tracking to start photographing the Milky Way and other deep sky objects.
Mulitple Pre-Programmed Speeds for Tracking and Time-Lapse Photography
Multiple preprogramed speeds, including sidereal, solar, lunar, as well as four additional speeds for time-lapse photography and nightscapes, including 0.5x, 2x, 4x and 12x.
Time-Lapse, Snap Port, Auto Guider Port, DC Power Input
With several exposure presets, the Star Adventurer triggers the DSLR using the auxiliary shutter release cable. For photographers seeking perfectly round stars, the mount also comes equipped with a standard ST-4 port, allowing users to connect an autoguider for additional tracking accuracy.
Why Use a Star Tracker?
Without a tracker, DSLRs can only capture 15 second exposures before the Earth's rotation make stars appear blurry. But by integrating the Star Adventurer into any standard photo tripod, you can increase exposure times from 15 seconds to several minutes, allowing users to capture greater detail in the Milky Way with less grain or noise in their images, due to a lower ISO.
Nightscapes Made Easy
Capture longer exposures of the Milky Way and take your nightscape images to the next level! Works with nearly any photographic tripod, and compact enough to fit in a camera bag. Align in minutes and start shooting exposures ranging from 30 seconds to several minutes.
Perfect for Eclipses
Traveling to view eclipses in 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, or 2026? The Star Adventurer makes for the perfect travel companion! With it's compact size and accurate solar tracking, you'll be ready to capture this once in a lifetime phenomenon.
Versatile Time-lapse Modes
Produce stunning time-lapse videos of both terrestrial and celestial objects using one of the Star Adventurer's four distinct time-lapse modes! Choose from 0.5x, 2x, 4x and 12x speeds, and utilize complete camera automation using the included SNAP port.

User questions & answers
Question: | can this scope be used as a spotting scope for bird watching |
Answer: | Excellent for bird-watching. At 20x, it's fine. At 40x (long distance) you may want a strudier tripod, and because it's daylight, you can look through the smaller 42mm hole (take off the little cap) in the dust cap and that will improve the sharpness at high power. If you want a better spotting scope, simply buy a fancy wide-angle/high-performance 1.25 eyepiece (super-plossl, etc), around 15 mm focal length. |
Question: | You say that any tripod that I use for photography should work. Does that mean that I can screw my tripod head into the telescope |
Answer: | Yes. As others have said, the tripod that comes with the telescope is reallllly flimsy. There are a couple of screw holes on the bottom of the telescope. I was able to attache the telescope to my other tripod using the detachable head on the tripod. |
Question: | I'm a real beginner/plan to purchase this for my son so we can both explore the night sky, etc. Is it really easy to setup?/How long will it take |
Answer: | The scope is really good for beginners and it is easy to set up. As others have said the the included tripod is small for portability and not very stable. If used fully "retracted" on the hood of a car for example, it's OK. I've used it with a Celestron 7.5MM eyepiece and a 2x barlow lens and it can still resolve the rings of Saturn on a clear night. It's not designed for that kind of magnification but for an inexpensive scope with simple lenses I was impressed. I wouldn't recommend trying that though until you have some practice on focus, finding objects in the sky, and purchasing a heavy duty camera tripod. You must remember even with the highest power eyepieces, which you only want to consider using for viewing planets, objects are really small which is due to it's 400mm focal length. Overall it's WAY better than spending 40-50 dollars on a cheap toy at the local discount store. Another good option comparable to this is the Orion 76mm Fun Scope. It's really only for table top use but it's easy to swivel up/down left/right. It is a reflector though and images don't appear as crisp in my opinion. You'll find out that half the quality of a telescope is how good the tripod or mounting set up is. For the price you can't go wrong with this scope. I own several telescopes from computer driven to large reflectors and still grab this for quick views of Orions belt, Jupiter, Saturn, the Moon, and star clusters like the double cluster and the Pleiades. Just to add to an already long answer, I added an inexpensive laser object finder (similar to the Celestron Star Finder) instead of the mostly useless viewfinder. It makes it ten times easier to point the scope at objects you're trying to look at and it doesn't take much modifications to get it screwed to the scope tube or stuck on with foam tape. Your son will thank you! |
Question: | can i see with my left eye |
Answer: | Only if you look at objects on the left....use right eye for objects on the right side....if its straight above you , you can use both eyes. |

What is Earth's position in the Solar System?
In our solar system, Earth is the third planet from the Sun. Closer to the Sun are Mercury and Venus. Further from the Sun are Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The Earth, the Sun, and all the planets are held together by gravity, the same force that pulls you towards the Earth.
Does the Sun move around the Milky Way?
Yes, the Sun - in fact, our whole solar system - orbits around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. We are moving at an average velocity of 828,000 km/hr. But even at that high rate, it still takes us about 230 million years to make one complete orbit around the Milky Way!
What supercluster do we live in?
The supercluster we live in is known as the Virgo Supercluster. It's an enormous collection of more than a million galaxies, stretching across a region of space 110 million light-years across. According to the new definition, the Virgo supercluster we know in the past is only part of Laniakea.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use another tripod I have a bigger sturdier and has wheels |
Answer: | Yes and you should! The tripod is the weakest link on this product. This isn't a mark against the company, as the tripod is often the weakest link in any optics set up. I am not sure why your tripod has wheels or how that would benefit, since orienting objects are easier to do using a stable base and the spotting scope attachment along an axis, but hey, follow your heart! |
Question: | How do you attach the cell phone holder? It is not even mentioned in the instructions |
Answer: | There is a part of the cell phone holder that twists. As you twist clockwise or counter clockwise the opening widens I order for the eyepiece to fit in it. Once you are able to fit the cellphone holder on the eye piece you tighten the twisting part to fasten the cellphone holder in place. I hope that helps. |
Question: | Does it can see the moon |
Answer: | Yes it can does see the moon.... Really it just magnifies the light that comes into your eyeball which your brain interprets as the moon. |
Question: | What all can you see with this telescope |
Answer: | The parking lot across the street was all ilI could ever see. It is absolutely trash. The company must be giving all these great reviews |
