User questions & answers
Question: | works with small insects |
Answer: | The field on this microscope in bottom lit. So you can see anything that the light can shine through. It will also illuminate small insects, their wings, legs etc. Quite alot of the body of the insects are translucent, so you can see inside the bodies etc. I have also looked at blood samples (my own) and it shows the blood cells, and white cells and other scary little critters swimming around in there. I had a microsocpe i gave to my grandaughter that also had a light that shinned from above. This would be nice to have on this one, but does not. with a top light you could look at objects that the light will not shine through. I especially like the camera/computer hookup. I hook it to a 32 inch tv and it gives a great picture of the object and you can take moving videos of little critters, like in pond water, or even small blood samples. the camera and software came with the scope i bought. this scope has four lenses. i use the lowest and next highest the most. that is the .4 and the 10 (which are then magnified by the optical by which ever lens you put in. this scope came with two options. The third lens is a 40, i have a little trouble focusing with this one, you have to get really close to the object, so make sure you use a cover on the slide over the object so you don't get stuff on the lens. And the fourth lens is oil emersion, a small bottle of oil comes with the scope. I think if i where doing it again i would try to find one that is both bottom and top lit. Not sure how that effects the price. Over all very happy with the quality of the scope, I would give it a 9.5 on a scale of 10. Have fun. |
Question: | Will this work on any computer? Like windows 10 for example |
Answer: | I have got this to work on win vista, win 7, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Linux mint, and Androidx86. |
Question: | what kind of bacteria can you see with this? can you see DNA/RNA strands |
Answer: | see bacteria,but cann't watch DNA/RNA |
Question: | can i view gemstones on this microscope |
Answer: | No, you cannot use this microscope to view gemstones, or any solid object (at least not in a way that will be useful). There are two main types of microscope - compound, and stereo. A compound microscope, like the AmScope B120C-E1, is designed to look at translucent samples - drops of pond water, thin slices of tissue, and so on. Light is shined up through the sample and into the eyepiece, allowing you to see the cells/organisms in the sample. For viewing solid objects, you need a stereo microscope such as the AmScope SE400 (http://www.amazon.com/AmScope-SE400-Z-Widefield-Inspection-Microscope/dp/B005C75IVM). These microscopes are more like magnifying glasses on steroids, and use reflected light to illuminate the top of whatever you're viewing. If you want to examine gems, coins, circuit boards, insects, etc., go with a stereo microscope. Note that a "binocular" microscope just means the 'scope has two eyepieces - it does not imply "stereo" or "compound". |

Question: | One of the pictures indicates it can be connected to a computer, I assume via USB cable. Is that a correct assumption? If so , does the cable come wit |
Answer: | Purchased May 2017: I made the mistake of assuming this had a camera with USB computer because of the product description. In my opinion it is very misleading. You're only getting a microscope, 1 extra eye piece, and an AC adapter. No other cables or slides included. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone used the 2000x magnification? How clear is the image |
Answer: | Not great to be honest, a little fuzzy and dim when used with wet prep slides or oil immersion. It's as good as can be expected from a microscope of this price range though. |
Question: | is this microscope good for looking at soil organisms? im looking for flagelletes protozao microbes...if anyone know the answer to this please tell |
Answer: | It's perfectly fine. Just suspend some soil in water, put on a coverslip, and you are in business. It's no different from any other microscope--and its optics are surprisingly good. Besides flagellates, you will find a variety of other organisms, eggs of various species, fungi, ciliates, amebas and more. |
Question: | Is it suitable for examining coins |
Answer: | No. This microscope is for object you can shine light THROUGH. You would need a stereoscope for coins. |
Question: | What is the purpose and/or advantage of the Double Layer Mechanical Stage |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it use a graticule in the optic for measuring |
Answer: | If you're asking if it has one, no it doesn't. For the price, though, this microscope is outstanding. I am a veterinarian and use mine all the time and love it. |
Question: | What size rubber eye guards fit this microscope |
Answer: | These would be the best fitting eyecups http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FG8B474. |
Question: | What's included in the package |
Answer: | Off the top of my head, mine came with the following:A pair of 10x and 20x optical lens each.4x, 10, 40x, and 100x objectivesProtective plastic cover (not a hard shell case - more like a bag)At least 3 colored diaphragm filters (blue, green, yellow)A small tube of oil (I'm not sure if it's lube or immersion oil)And I forgot about the spare light bulb |
Question: | Is it possible to connect this device to a computer? if so I’d appreciate an explanation |
Answer: | As far as I can tell it is possible but expensive as you need a camera mounting fixture above eyepiece, a USB camera that mounts to the above fixture and the PC software. I currently use the scope By itself now but would like a camera in the future. Good luck. |

Question: | The description says 2x objective but the description says 1x. Which is it |
Answer: | I've same model and is 2x...only little defect the yellow light you have to change with new one white light used in car tuning... |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | In irvine california |
Question: | why does it take 1-2 months to receive it????this is rediculous in todays world |
Answer: | I received mine in about two weeks, so I don't know why it would take longer, unless it is out of stock or it is being shipped out of the country. |
Question: | Is the basket stainless also, or aluminum |
Answer: | The basket is of a dubious metal that outlasted the pot. The pot interior had so much corrosion and pitting after 2 years that it was frightening. The quality of stainless is very very low. Note they do not mention 18-8 or 18-3 stainless. The outside still looks pristine like it has lots of chromium in it. The glass top broke and was replaced. The basket was the only part not ruined in normal use. I question the safety of this pot, now used as a bird feeder. |
Question: | How do you KNOW coffee is ready |
Answer: | I gave up on having an automatic coffee maker and started using this one. It makes better coffee/ it draws more of the oils out from the grounds. I learned how to use it from YouTube videos, and after 2 years of making coffee with this very 12 cup Percolator I'll go ahead and share my technique (since someone else's public post is how I learned). First I use regular coffee filters, and just poke a hole in the middle. It helps to wet the holder so the paper sticks to the sides to keep out of the way while you add coffee grounds to your strainer jig (I add 5 heaping dinner spoons). Some grounds get through but after my coffee is done I pour it through a fine strainer anyway to get those out. Start by putting the stove on high. Once you have an angry boil, change the heat down to medium (5 is medium on my scale of 10 for stove settings). This is the heat you'll keep it on while it percolates. Take the lid off the pot and set your loaded strainer jig inside (I forget the technical name for it). Then replace the lid and the percolation process begins/ you'll see water pop up into the glass thing on top, and inside it's dripping down over the coffee grounds to make the coffee. Set your timer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn off the heat but dont lift the lid on the pot, and dont take it off the burner/ just leave it. When everything is cooled enough to lift the lid without hot water spurting out at you, it's ready to drink. Enjoy! |
Question: | I just read on this site that it is made in China, That's all I need to know. I refuse to buy chinese |
Answer: | Yeah, I just went over to Lehmans.com... they only sell TWO percolators and BOTH are made in China! And at the rate things are going you’d better hurry up and even buy the Chinese “crap” before we can’t anything from China. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you add a camera to this |
Answer: | The head on this microscope does not allow for a camera. |
Question: | Does this have 40x magnification |
Answer: | Yes. It’s 7-45 x. It’s a variable microscope. It has a knob that you turn to move the objective lenses in or out which magnifies or demagnifies the object. You can get a Barlow lens that goes on the bottom to either decrease the total magnification from 7-45x to 3.5-22.5x,for example. You can also get one that magnifies it more. A 2x Barlow would be 14-90 x. FYI the knob is continuous with turning. So it can be 11x,12x,13x,etc. In other words,it not a number of set magnifications. |
Question: | Can i see germs with this |
Answer: | No, the magnification is not that high. |
Question: | Can I see germs with this |
Answer: | I'm afraid not. Even with the 2x Barrow Lens and the 20x reticles, you will only get 90x and you need 500x or 1000x to see germs and bacteria. |

This trinocular microscope is really binocular, only you can select an eye or camera, I explain that I have tried to connect an E-Mount SRL camera and I could not, another thing I did not like was the depth of field (less than 1mm) that does not serve to inspect electronics, the solution was only to use the base and disregard the optics that do not work for me, buy an SRL lens and place the 10x opteka macro plus the SRL camera and I have a very good microscope with good depth of the field, you can see that you find out on YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIWUFFlr2I4 |
Question: | Can you change the working distance to make it larger |
Answer: | I assume you mean the distance of the lens to the object being observed, to extend it I got the '0.5X Barlow Lens' which brought the viewing range to about 7 inch and broaden the viewing area. The lens indicates it is for SM Series scope (AmScope 0.5X Barlow Lens For SM Series) but it works on the SW scopes also (AmScope SW-3T24Z Trinocular Stereo Microscope). What I just described is listed in the microscope questions and comments and if you go the the AmScope web site you can get more o info. |
