User questions & answers

Question: How close is close focus- can you ID a butterfly in your hand
Answer: I’m not sure but I can tell you not to buy this model much less anything from atn. I was sold a defective unit and tried to claim warranty but since they no longer make this model they do not back their warranty. Very bad company
Question: Hi all, I've read many reviews, and the specs...but am still unclear about what the "close focus" is. 1 foot? 10 feet? thanks
Answer: There are two adapters available, one that mounts to a Pic rail and another that adapts to your scope. Both should include a 1x lens to replace the 3x lens that is included on the monocle. Be wary that they are hard to come by now and cost a couple hundred dollars.
Question: I have heard that 8x is easier to hold steady than 10x, but the 8x25 is only 4.2in long. Does this not also hinder holding steady
Answer: No. It has a tripod mount. It's strictly a spotting scope & does not have crosshairs.
Question: how close is close focus
Answer: Absolutely
Question: Can this be fitted on a rhino mount
Answer: No, these do not have any kind of mount. The Thor is the model that had a weapon mount.
Question: Can you adapt the ATN Night Spirit-2 Gen 2 + Night Vision Multi Purpose System to a daytime rifle scope? Thans
Answer: Yes it is. It has several different options I prefer the white hot for pigs
Question: Does this come with a picatiny mount
Answer: Animals and humans are visible out to several hundred yards but much beyond 100 yards or so they will just be a small blobs of pixels, very difficult to identify. I would say identifying a small animal like a coyote or rabbit is limited to about 50 yards or less, larger animals a bit further. Generally I would say this is a very short range thermal optic.
Question: I use this in a survival game. Can you find people hiding in the daytime forest? The temperature is 10-30 degrees
Answer: Are you hunting humans like the show the most dangerous game. If so this is cheating. Shame on you.
Question: Can i use it for rifles like ak-47 and ar
Answer: That is a hard question to answer not having a range finder on my thermal. You can see thermal signatures well over a 1000yds, but here in East Texas I don't hunt anywhere that I could view that kind of distance, however at 350 yards, I can easily determine what animal I am looking at whether it is a pig, raccoon, buck or doe, I can even see a mouse at that distance. I know that may not be the answer your looking for, but I hope it helps.
Question: Is this unit a true thermal rifle scope? With various thermal video coloring options
Answer: i believe 50hz
Question: What's the range
Answer: The specified video recording frame rate is 30 frames/second. They do not have a spec for sensor framing rate but direct viewing or reviewing video appears as good as television when viewing motion of an object.
Question: I use this in a survival game. Can you find people hiding in the daytime forest? The temperature is 10-30 degrees
Answer: It’s an internal rechargeable battery!
Question: what is the max range this can see a thermal signature ? wolf/bear/Bison @ 1500 yards
Answer: Yes, it comes with a full ATN warranty.
Question: How many hertz are in this scope
Answer: Personally no I have not used it but I have used the full X-Sight scope and find it very reliable.
Question: what Hz is it
Answer: 30mm standard rings are included with item

  • The recce Pro generates bright, sharp high definition images with its high density, extra-low dispersion glass and XR anti-reflective coatings. The flared eyecup Blocks extraneous light and folds down for use with glasses.
  • The large focus wheel is easy to adjust and allows for smooth one-handed operation once focused while the reticle focus keeps your reticle looking tack sharp.
  • The versatile utility clip securely attaches to pack webbing or pocket edges for quick access. The unit also comes with a MOLLE/PALS Compatible pouch.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a reticle? If so what type
Answer: Yes. It's an offset (so it doesn't block your view) Mil-Rad crosshair reticle that also has 3 torso silhouettes sized for different ranges. The reticle is very sharp.
Question: What kinda pouch does it come with
Answer: Mine came with a coyote brown Codura nylon pouch with a Velcro closure. I recall Molle web on reverse for attachment. The pouch is tight so it takes some manipulation to insert. Closure is secure enough and provides some protection but not from dust. Hope this helps.
Question: Can you see at night with them
Answer: No, it is just a regular scope. No night vision or thermal capabilities
Question: Is the optical performance good? Is the edge of the image circle blurry, distorted? How much of the center of the image is sharp
Answer: There is no perimeter blur and no distortion. I bought this version for the gas filled optics and not necessarily the mil for reticle , although it will be useful.

Product features

Ranging Reticle

Hashmarked ranging reticle using mrad based subtension lines for ranging, holdover, and windage corrections. The ranging reticle is based on a form of angular measurement called the milliradian (mrad for short). These angular measurements allow a user to calculate ranges when comparing the reticle to objects of known dimension. The key to effective ranging using this reticle is knowing common objects in your vicinity and their measurements.

Adjust the Image Focus

Use the main focus wheel on the eyepiece to obtain crisp, sharp images of objects at varying distances. Designed for quick single-handed operation, simply place the thumb and forefinger on the focus wheel and turn to move lens forward or backward until the image is as sharp as possible.

Adjust the Reticle Focus

The reticle focus, located on the eyepiece next to the eyecup, adjusts the sharpness of the reticle. While looking at a blank wall or blue sky, turn the wheel until reticle is as sharp as possible. Once set for a particular user, that user will not need to adjust the reticle focus again.

Adjusting the Eyecup

The heavy duty flared rubber eyecup folds up and down for optimal viewing with or without eyeglasses.

• Flared eyecup blocks stray light when fully extended.

• Eyecup folds down for viewing with eyeglasses.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have night vision
Answer: NO. The way that people are describing this simply means that the front Objective lens is large, which allows more light into the optical viewer. There are some common sizes of front objective lenses for binoculars and monoculars listed below and they are compared to this 60mm viewer. The explanation should help everyone figure out why the larger objective, the more light, thus; the brighter the image, and the better one can see in low light, mostly at dusk or bright moonlight. 7x35 binoculars have been considered as good night vision on bright moonlight nights, and are better than 10 x 50 binoculars. In other words, 7x35 allows a brighter image, but the target is not as large from magnification. With 7x35, one can see into the shadows better than 10X50. One can see from the math that 7x35 (7 magnification by 35mm front objective lens) light entry to the viewing device is very inferior to 60mm. There is a caveat to it all: If the 60mm or any viewer without night vision is adjusted to higher than what viewing device it is compared to, the light value drops significantly. In other words: The 60mm if adjusted to 7 power, like 7x35 binoculars is far superior with bright vision than the 7x35 because of the large objective. Adjusting to higher power will darken the view. Front Objective Square Millimeter Comparison 60mm = 2,827.44 sq. mm. 50 mm = 1,963.5 sq. mm ÷ 2,827.44 = 31% less light than 60mm optical viewer; or, 60mm has 31% more light than 50mm optical viewer, and brighter image. 40mm = 1,256.64 sq.mm ÷ 2,827.44 sq mm. = 36% less light than 60mm optical viewer; or, 60mm has 36% more light than 40mm optical viewer, and brighter image. 35mm = 962.115 sq/ mm ÷ 2,827.44 sq. mm = 66% less light than 60mm optical viewer; or, 60mm has 66% more light than 35mm optical viewer, and brighter image.
Question: Hi,i want to know if these binoculars be good for watching wildlife? Thanks for your answer
Answer: I think so. If you want to get a close up of wildlife,i will recommend you these binoculars. The disadvantage is that they are a little heavier and bigger than other binoculars. Bur if you want to look at the various options for magnification ,you’d better choose magnification like these 10x. They will help you view more filed and view, hope you enjoy your binoculars.
Question: Did you use these binoculars with the prescription eyeglasses
Answer: Well, i will answer your question. At first, these binoculars have a short eye relief distance that means you can roll down the eye cup to adjust the distance. If your vision is not too bad, i can make sure you will view things clearly if you use them without your glasses, just focus the left eye with the center focus wheel and use the dioptre setting on the right lense to focus the right eye. Of course, if your vision is too bad, it doesn’t matter if you wear glasses. In fact, you can see more field if you wear glass. Hope this helps.
Question: How about the quality
Answer: I bought them three months ago and i think these binoculars are of very good quality. As the description said, they are compact and solidly made.My 17ys son likes playing football as well as watching football games, so he mainly use them to view the games. All in all, it’s good quality and you have the best price. I am very happy with this purchase.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the luminosity of the 10x42 and 8x32? I see it’s listed on the advertisement but it’s too small for me to read on my iPhone. Thanks
Answer: 16 for the 8x42, and ~17 for the 10x42.
Question: Can these be used inside a gym, for instance
Answer: Certainly. The photochromic coatings on the BluHorizons were designed to protect the eyes by changing color to enhance contrast and reduce brightness under bright UV light- indoor lighting would have no effect on the AutoBright coatings and would provide a fairly typical image compared to other models. The close focus distance on these and all other Steiner ultra-compact binoculars (such as the Safari, Predator, and Tactical models) is 6ft, so you'll definitely be able to focus on whatever you're looking at.
Question: What country are they made
Answer: All Steiner binos sold in the US come from Germany
Question: Is there a case that comes with the binoculars
Answer: yes, the Bluhorizons binoculars come with a neoprene pouch that offers excellent protection

User questions & answers

Question: How useful is the manual
Answer: I guess its fine as manuals go. Its in English so that's a plus. It also is good if you need to start a fire or need something to read when your on the john, lots of versatility i guess.
Question: will it attach to a tripod or camera stick
Answer: Yes it will attach to a tripod, a camera stick and a rifle, see the comments section under this item at the Vortex site (www.vortexoptics.com).It may take a little work, but it's easy to make it fit a tripod and the buffer tube of an AR-15.LF
Question: have a belt clip
Answer: Yeah, a huge metal belt clip. and comes with a pouch as well. both are not very useful. But the mono itself and the R/T are awesome!
Question: Is this a range finder? Thank you
Answer: Yes, it does contain a range finder. It is an optical rangefinder based on a graduated reticle. It is not an electronic rangefinder where you press a button and get a number. To use the Vortex R/T (Ranging/Tactical), you need to know the approximate height of the object. That info, combined with the built-in reticle will give you the distance. An internet image search will give you a picture of the reticle, and several sites have info on how to use it. As an example, if a human (2 meters tall) viewed through the scope was 3 hash marks high (milliradians) then the distance would be 2 meters X 1000 / 3 (hash marks) = 666.6 meters (give or take). As a side note, I really enjoy mine, goes with me often on hikes. Well built and compact.

Built to be carried as a standard piece of equipment and close-at-hand, the Solo R/T Tactical Monocular gives a closer look when needed. Features the Vortex R/T Ranging Reticle with reticle focus for accurate range estimation and calling shots. R/T Ranging Reticle

Hashmarked ranging reticle using mrad based subtension lines for ranging, holdover, and windage corrections. Quick-ranging silhouettes. The R/T ranging reticle is based on a form of angular measurement called the milliradian (mrad for short). These angular measurements allow a user to calculate ranges when comparing the reticle to objects of known dimension. The key to effective ranging using this reticle is knowing common objects in your vicinity and their measurements.

Adjusting the Focus

Designed for quick single-handed operation, simply place the thumb and forefinger on the focus wheel and turn to move lens forward or backward.

• Top focus wheel adjusts the reticle.

• Bottom focus wheel adjusts the image.

Adjusting the Eyecup

The heavy duty flared rubber eyecup on the Solo Tactical R/T monocular folds up and down for optimal viewing with or without eyeglasses.

• Flared eyecup blocks stray light when fully extended.

• Eyecup folds down for viewing with eyeglasses.

Attaching the Lanyard

1. Detach clip from the lanyard.

2. Push the loop end through the attachment point on the monocular.

3. Pull the clip through the loop and cinch tight.

4. Re-attach the clip to lanyard.

The infrared-sensitive complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor provides edge-to-edge resolution and outstanding image quality, while the fully multi-coated optics increase light transmission and decrease glare for a clear, illuminated image. With 6x magnification and a 50mm objective lens, this compact night vision monocular lets you effectively view objects up to 900 feet away in night mode when the infrared illumination level is set to high.

Record and Stream Video

Not only can you view your subject at night with the Equinox Z2 Night Vision Monocular, you can also record its image as a still photo or video clip. User questions & answers

Question: Can you manually zoom like binoculars
Answer: No zoom.
Question: Does this product come with a case
Answer: No case, these were being sold as optional when I bought this monocular. Great optics, though.
Question: I have one of these and I do not think the optic quality is very good. Has anyone compared this to the Steiner miniscope for optics
Answer: I haven't compared it to the Steiner miniscope, but I agree that the optic quality isn't good enough to make it much good for anything.
Question: I wear glasses, can I use this monocular while wearing them? Also, would this be good in an urban context
Answer: My husband and I both wear glasses and have no problem at all! It is so handy anywhere since it is so small and fits easily in a shirt pocket. We don't use binoculars any more and we travel extensively! We love ours (each have one!)

The practical magnifiers for every day

For sporting events, in the theatre or in the great outdoors, the Monos are the masters of versatility, fitting snugly in a jacket pocket or handbag. Depending on the model, they are ideal for use as magnifying glasses or even for binocular amplification. They can turn your binoculars into a spotting scope by tripling the magnification. Even the smallest details can be seen: nothing escapes their notice. They are also useful for long-range observation or the detailed identification of game.

Available Models
ZEISS T* Coating

ZEISS T* coating is a sponsor of the brilliant, high-contrast images which you will experience above all in adverse light conditions and in the twilight. Behind it, however, there is no specific formula for building up the layers. Instead, it is a technology that is constantly adjusted to suit new glass materials and requirements, which varies from lens to lens.

Close range

The Mono models 4x12 T* and 6x18 T* with their close focus capabilities are suitable for use as a magnifying glass or visual aid. This makes them extremely versatile. Whether you are watching butterflies, reading a street plan or walking map, or making out letters and numbers on a bus timetable, the Monos are a practical tool.

Always at hand

Small, light and sporty - the compact Monos are always handy for nature excursions, concerts or sporting events. They bring objects to arm's length at lightning speed so you can see every single detail. A diopter adjustment is possible to up to +/- 4 diopters.

Triple amplification

The Mono 3x12 T* can transform your Victory FL and Conquest binoculars into a high-performance spotting scope in the blink of an eye by tripling the magnification. A practical alternative to a spotting scope, which pays off on long and varied excursions, such as birdwatching or insect hunting. The device can be securely fixed onto the eyepiece by means of an adaptor ring, opening up a hugely detailed visual experience. The Mono 3x12 T* can also be used on its own as a miniature telescope or as a magnifying glass at close range. The Mono booster is so small that you can easily take it with you wherever you go.

User questions & answers

Question: Some reviews say they love the ZOOM. Is there really a Zoom or are people confused between focus and zoom
Answer: The close-focus is 16.4 feet according to the Vortex website (and, based on some of the other answers, it's sad that they are clueless to the advantages of monocs/binocs for close-viewing; their loss). Good question. Thanks, shiftstick. (PS Most of my binocs are about 5 foot close-focus range, so this is a little on the long side, for sure). Bye now.
Question: This pops up when i search for night vision monoculars but this one doesn't say anything about night vision. can you see at night with it
Answer: Close focus is 25 feet, a little fuzzy at 20 ft. I use mine to spot bullet holes in a target when shooting with iron sights at 50 yards. Works great!
Question: Is it useful for star gazing
Answer: It's A LOT easier to hold steady a 8X than a 10x...not always you are going to be calm enough to hold steady a 10x...Steadiness it's crucial.
Question: what power this??? battires
Answer: I am estimating it to be about 15 feet. Didn't find this out until after I bought it and started using it. Would have really liked something that was more like 5 to 6 feet, or closer.
