Product description

Canon's 8x25 IS Image Stabilized Binocular are the latest model in the Canon Image Stabilizer series. The 8x25 IS brings you the outstanding optical performance and unparalleled Image Stabilization capabilities you would expect from Canon Image Stabilizer binoculars for the most affordable price yet! Weighing a mere 17 oz. the 8x25 IS Binoculars are the smallest and lightest IS binoculars ever produced. Combining Canon's ly developed Tilt-System Image Stabilizer technology with a rounded shape for greater comfort and non-slip holding, the 8x25 IS binoculars are perfect for any setting. Whether watching your favorite team at the local stadium, or taking a closer look at the natural world around you the 8x25 IS binoculars are a perfect choice.

Whether you are sitting in the nosebleed seats of a stadium or an opera house, with Canon's 8 x 25 IS binoculars you'll get an outstanding close-up view of the action. The binoculars are designed to fit perfectly in your hands and have a rubber coating for nonslip grip and protection from damage. The focus dial is center-mounted and the image stabilizer controls are easily accessible from either hand. Canon's optical image stabilization technology eliminates shake and reduces curvature of field. The image stabilizer operates with a CR123A Lithium battery. The lenses are coated with Super Spectra multicoating that improves image quality by maximizing contrast and minimizing color smear.

Image Stabilization and More

With any high magnification binoculars, most users will experience frustrating image shake. Unless fixed to a tripod, image shake can render high magnification binoculars useless. Canon's IS technology is remarkably effective at eliminating this problem and is widely used by the television industry with Canon's professional broadcast quality video recording equipment. A special VAP (Vari-Angle Prism) corrective IS system sits between the objective lens group and the porro prism on each side of the binoculars. Within thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibrations, a detection system activates the IS mechanism. The VAP shape alters to refract or 'bend' the light path by precisely the right amount, thus fully compensating for the vibration. It is this essentially immediate response that effectively suppresses image shake.

Super Spectra Coating

A number of optical factors affect the brightness of an image, including the amount of incidental light that is reflected by the lens. An uncoated lens will refelect away as much as 8% of the incidentail light, significantly dimming the image. Canon's Super Spectra Coating prevents that reflection.

What do the numbers mean?

15x50? 8x25? The two numbers used to describe any pair of binoculars are their magnification — 8x, 12x, 15x and so on — and the diameter of their objective lenses — 25mm, 36mm, 50mm, and so on. The larger the first number is, the larger the object will appear to be in the objective lens. For instance, if you use a 10x lens and look at an object that is 100 yards away, it appears to be the same size as an object located just 10 yards away. The second number, the size of the objective lens, is important because the larger the objective lens, the more light it can admit for brighter, more detailed images, and the better suited they will be for lowlight situations.

User questions & answers

Question: Difference between the $280 ASIN B000063YA5 and the $300 UNSPSC Code 41111717? Descriptions are identical
Answer: Apart from the $20 (!) it could only be in the case, if supplied, or other finishing. I bought mine quite some time back, it works well, but one may find the battery does not last very long. Good lenses though.
Question: What is the usual battery life
Answer: This runs on ACR123A 3V Lithium Batteries, so that would depend on the quality of the batteries which are used.
Question: are the binoculars good indoor to watch opera or broadway show
Answer: This is why I bought them... a friend at the SF Ballet said they were the best for indoor viewing, and with the freeze pic option they are great... they are the clearest I’ve ever seen and I own several $500+ binoculars... don’t hesitate to but then, and they are not that bulky... opera types are just a joke vs this product.
Question: Does the coating become sticky
Answer: No. The coating is a hard material. I own a 10 power Image Stabilization binocular that does become severely sticky if exposed to heat or chemicals. I wrote an extensive review of the 10 power binoc. detailing. However my 8X25 coating does not become sticky.

The 10x20 IS binoculars feature a powerful Lens Shift Image Stabilization system that’s remarkably effective in canceling out possible shaking made by movement and vibration. Borrowing technology from Canon’s EF lenses, Lens Shift Image Stabilization maintains a steady view by incorporating a continually adjusting vibration gyro mechanism, moving the IS lens both vertically and horizontally. User questions & answers

Question: Do they come with a case and a strap
Answer: Yes they came with a case and a strap. Strangely they only come with two lens caps leaving two lens uncapped.
Question: Do the Binoculars come with batteries
Answer: 12x36 come with AA batteries. You do not have to use rechargeable. Any AA battery will work
Question: Has anyone used these on a 24 foot boat in moderate conditions
Answer: Yes and no. I've used them on an 18 foot boat in various conditions. They won't stop the up and down of the boat. So they won't "level" out everything. They will stop or level out your unsteadiness, to a degree. Let me put it to you this way; They won't be like you are on the hard, but they will be better than anything else.
Question: What can I do about the outside getting sticky and turns my hands black? Thank you
Answer: No, Deet and oils from your hands is not the problem. Both my Cannon binoculars have the sticky, gooey problem and I only used them with clean hands and have always stored them in a cool place. It happens when the polymer crosslinks break apart, a very well know process. There is no cure and oxygen if the main culprit. Why Cannon doesn't use a better shell for the binoculars is something beyond me. Cannon is a dishonest company. I have spent $1600 on the two binoculars and feel like this company has ripped me off since they have know of the problem for years! They still deny its a problem!!!

User questions & answers

Question: What power adapter are you supposed to use? It doesn’t ship with one and normal phone chargers don’t work. What is Canon pulling here
Answer: I'm sorry no, your camera is a point and shoot camera; it does not feature an interchangeable lens system. This lens cannot be adapted to your camera, as it requires an EOS camera system. If you feel you have outgrown your camera, then I would recommend looking into a Rebel SL2. It's a great camera for people that are using a DSLR for the first time, and will give you plenty of features to keep the camera useful well after you have mastered the basics. If you do decide to go for a DSLR like the SL2 or another Canon, I think you will be better off avoiding this lens and going for the EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM instead. It is a little more expensive (300 USD new, and 200 if bundled with a new camera), but is a FAR better lens. The only thing the 75-300mm has over it is the 50mm of extra reach. The 55-250mm has IS, better image quality, faster and smoother focus, sharper at all zoom ranges, and a few other minor advantages like rear element focusing (front of lens doesn't rotate). Best of all, it will fit your camera! And while the 75-300mm is considered the worst lens in the Canon lineup, the 55-250mm is considered the best telephoto for under a grand. If the IS STM is a little too expensive, then the older model, the IS II is still a decent lens as well, for a little more than the 75-300mm (They are right around 120-130 USD). If you want some more info, I have a review for that lens on my profile. Hope that helped!
Question: What app do i use
Answer: It will; your Rebel can use all EF and EF-S lenses. However, I think you will be better off avoiding this lens and going for the EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM instead. It is a little more expensive (about 100 bucks), but is a FAR better lens. The only thing the 75-300mm has over it is the 50mm of extra reach. The 55-250mm has IS, better image quality, faster and smoother focus, sharper at all zoom ranges, and a few other minor advantages like rear element focusing (front of lens doesn't rotate). Best of all, it will fit your Rebel! And while the 75-300mm is considered the worst lens in the Canon lineup, the 55-250mm is considered the best telephoto for under a grand.Hope that helped!OK, I jsut saw right before posting my answer that your question is from 2014. Sorry it took so long to get you an answer. :)

< br> The final piece in the image chain is Canon's Digic DV 4 image processor. This high-speed image-processing engine powers Canon's Dynamic IS (Image Stabilization) mode reducing image distortion over traditional up-down, left-right image stabilization by adding correction for camera roll in three axes. The power of the Digic DV 4 allows the camera to simultaneously encode your video to two different codecs and bit rates, allowing you to have web-ready versions of your master footage available as soon as you stop recording.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the case actually big enough to fit the camera? I know a lot of times, the bundle deals always give you undersized cases
Answer: Great question! The case IS big enough to fit the camera, as long as you don’t have the shotgun mic holder attached. It is undersized to fit pretty much any of the accessories, so I ordered an Ape Case that was big enough to hold everything I needed. So the case will hold the camera but that’s about it. In my situation, I wanted a shotgun mic to stay in the mic holder on the camera, along with space for stuff like the charger, the kit’s camera light, extra battery, a wireless lapel system and such. I went with the Ape Case ACPRO 1600. It’s kinda big compared to the camera itself, but it fits my needs really well. If that’s too big for you, Ape Case has a smaller version, the ACPRO 1400, that might be worth considering. Their cases are well-made and will help protect your investment.
Question: Does this camera perform well in low light situation
Answer: There are many settings to choose from and you can go fully manual to set color tones, backlight, white balance, etc.
Question: Does it fit a standard tripod
Answer: Yes, it has a 1/4 tripod thread to attach a standard tripod.
Question: Is this 20x true-zoom (glass) or 20x bullcrap digital-zoom
Answer: It is a 20x optical zoom not digital.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the "near focus" of these binoculars? In other words, what's the closest to the object being viewed at which these will focus sharply
Answer: The Nikon ProStaff 8x42 will focus sharp at 3 meters or about 9 feet 10 inches.
Question: Are these fogproof
Answer: Not sure what you mean by "Are these fogproof." Nikon advertises these Nikon 16030 binoculars as "waterproof" so I would think that condensation forming on the binocular will not result in damage. Will the lens fog? Absolutely yes, as will any cold surface in contact with atmospheric water vapor. When water vapor in the atmosphere contacts a cold surface (or cold binocular) the vapor cools and condenses into liquid water assuming certain conditions having to do with temperature and pressure are met. To reduce "fog" on the lens keep your binocular warm, inside your jacket if possible.
Question: Is it really 4.8 oz or 19.9 oz, waterproof/fogproof, 413 ft/1,000 yd FOV
Answer: They are 19.9 oz. I have had no issues with fogging and the ratio is correct. I hope this helps. They are the best binoculars I’ve had.
Question: Do these binoculars come with there own carrying case
Answer: they come with lens caps, not a carrying case

User questions & answers

Question: I am near sighted and wear glasses. Does this have a focus relief to adjust so I do not have to wear my glasses when using them
Answer: Yes, but you would have to travel on a spacecraft about 650 million miles closer to Saturn. Or use 50X telescope from Earth.
Question: What is there close focusing distance
Answer: I'm looking at the box (I just got it for fathers day today). It has "Tripod adaptable for a stable viewing platform by using the optional tripod adapter". You have to buy that separately. The directions even show how to do it. Amazon has the adapter shown (Nikon Adapter 7650). It's kind of spendy, but from what i've read, it's just a standard 1/4"-20 mount- just about any of those will work. not sure where some of the other answers are getting their info.
Question: What does fog proof mean
Answer: According to the specs, it's 3.05 or 3.06 pounds. Assume it's 3, since .05 or .06 pounds is about an ounce.
Question: Are these fog/waterproof
Answer: The first number is the power of the lens, that is how much it will magnify the image. The second number represents the diameter of the lens in mm. They work together to calculate a number called the "exit pupil" or "exit ratio". Take the lens size and divide it by the power to get this number. The higher the number, the brighter the image. For example, 10x50 will give an exit ratio of 5.0, 8x42 would be 5.25, 10x42 would be 4.2. In my opinion, the exit ratio is more important than the power. My favorite binoculars are 8x50 (6.25) but I also just bought 10x50 as a gift who is delighted with that configuration. Stay away from high-power binoculars. They, for me, are too hard to keep steady due to the high magnification.I hope this helps.-Norm

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between the monarch 5 7576 and the monarch 3 7540, what are the different features, and the difference in the optical quality
Answer: My brother is the expert that gave me all of my information. I don't understand all the technical stuff, but he said that there is a huge difference in the quality of the "glass" between the 3 and the 5. The clarity is well worth the difference in price. I have used my husbands hunting bins for bird watching (one pair was a Nikon brand) and believe me, my monarch 5 7576 is so much clearer than his, I am afraid to let him borrow them for fear I won't get them back. Haha.
Question: Are these binocs... the Monarch 5 10x42 good for long distance viewing for instance at the beach, looking out on the ocean at ships or for whales
Answer: The power is adequate enough to enhance the view but not so powerful that you can't hold steady on the image. So no, you won't get long distance detail but it will bring the image closer. I find high powered binocs almost impossible to hold steady. These are the perfect balance. I love them.
Question: What comes in the box? carry case? strap
Answer: carry case, strap, lens covers for both front and back and user manuals. Suggest you purchase the pencil style Nikon lens cleaning tool as well... Very handy and only $7.00. we live at the beach. The optics are indeed amazing for the price.
Question: Should I be really concerned about the adverse reviews on the lens caps
Answer: Yes & No. I use binoculars for my work and own several pairs of various manufacturer's bino's & spotting scopes. These binoculars are a great value. At this price point, in my experience, they have better than average optical quality and build quality for this price range. The lens caps are junk. Nikon claims the ocular (eye piece) lens cover is purposely designed for a loose fit....they fit so loosely they fail to protect the lens from dust & dirt. The PRIMARY job of a lens cap is to protect the lenses, not be convenient. If you are at all active while wearing them, the lens cover will come off, providing no protection, increasing the risk of damage. Also, the highest likelihood of damage to lenses comes from improper cleaning and you will be cleaning the ocular lenses often. Be careful, use the right soft cloth or a lens pen, and try not to scratch or remove the coatings. The Objective lens covers are a little better. They fit better and were redesigned to have both an inner and outer lip to grip the barrels better. They are attached to the barrels, but over time, the plastic tether will break. Nikon will send you replacements when this happens. I do find you must swivel these caps out of the way. If you don't, they have a tendency to pop up into your field of view. The sad thing is every time I use these, these little, easily solved problems are a constant annoyance. I tried installing a thin strip of duct tape on the ocular lens cover, which helped them fit better, but over time, the tape slips when it's warm out and you get a sticky mess on your eyepieces. Thank God for Goo Gone. I wish Nikon would pay attention to their Customers and fix the problem.

Celestron - SkyMaster Giant 15x70 Binoculars - Top Rated Astronomy Binoculars - Binoculars for Stargazing and Long Distance Viewing - Includes Tripod Adapter and Case

Celestron

Based on 5 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Celestron’s SkyMaster series of large aperture binoculars are a phenomenal value for high performance binoculars ideal for astronomical viewing or for terrestrial (land) use - especially over long distances. Each SkyMaster model features high quality BaK-4 prisms and multi-coated optics for enhanced contrast. Celestron has designed and engineered the larger SkyMaster models to meet the special demands of extended astronomical or terrestrial viewing sessions.

Binoculars come in a wide range of shapes and sizes these days, and an even wider range of prices. It's easy to spend less than $100 or more than $500 for what may appear to be, at least outwardly, comparable models. While they may look the same, they are probably quite different on the inside.

Recently, the binocular market has seen a flood of giant binoculars at prices that were unheard of just a few years ago. In general, giant binoculars are defined as those that magnify the view 10 times or more and have 70-mm or larger front (objective) lenses. It used to be that the least expensive giant binoculars cost in excess of $150, even $200. All that changed not long ago, when the bottom fell out of the price cellar. Now, several companies import giant binoculars that sell for half that, or less.

Celestron's 15x70 SkyMaster binoculars are one of the leaders in the low-price giant binocular arena. They certainly sound good on paper. The SkyMasters include multicoated optics and BaK-4 internal prisms, two features that promise brighter, better images, and key points to look for when judging a pair of binoculars. They also come with an adapter for attaching them to a photo tripod, which is a must to use them to their fullest, and a soft carrying case. But just because they are cheap doesn't always mean they are worth the price. Would it be better to save up for a more expensive pair?

To find the answer, I had an opportunity recently to judge the SkyMasters against a pair of Fujinon 16x70 FMT-SX binoculars , one of the finest pairs of giant binoculars sold today. Like the SkyMasters, the Fujinons feature BaK-4 prisms, but also have fully multicoated optics. As a general rule, superior coatings mean superior image sharpness and contrast. But then, that should be expected, given that the Fujinons cost many times more than the Celestrons.

While the Fujinons were clearly the better performer, the Celestron SkyMasters held up admirably. Image brightness, quality, and contrast were all remarkable considering their bargain price. Although images were a little soft across the outer 25% of the Celestron's field, the overall view was impressive nonetheless.

Some inexpensive binoculars have very sloppy focusing, causing the eyepieces to tilt and shift. Not so with the SkyMasters. I found that their center-focusing mechanism worked smoothly, with no apparently backlash or wobble. Eye relief (the distance you hold your eyes away from the eyepieces to see the full field) is stated to be 18 mm, a good distance for higher power binoculars and an important consideration if you must wear glasses when viewing. The SkyMasters are also light enough to support by hand for short periods of time, although buyers would be well advised to mount them on a sturdy photo tripod.

The bottom line is, if you are considering a pair of giant binoculars, whether for bird watching, stargazing, or another recreational use, and have a limited budget, Celestron's giant 15x70 SkyMasters represent an excellent value. --Phil Harrington, author of Star Ware and Star Watch

Pros:

  • Exceptional value for the price
  • Light enough to support by hand
  • BaK-4 prisms
  • Multicoated optics
Cons:
  • Outer 25% of the field is soft and a little blurry
  • Requires a tripod to use for extended periods

User questions & answers

Question: how does the tripod adpater hook on? I got it today but im confused how that part hooks on? and then to the tripod
Answer: Hi, in the middle of the skymaster, there is one circled logo of Celestron cap. Please remove by unscrew this. You can able to hook the tripod. Thanks.
Question: why do so many people prefer these over the 20x80 and 25x
Answer: 15x is at the upper limit of what can be hand held. Higher powers would need a tripod to be steady enough. Even at 15x some people would need a tripod or something to lean against. Lower powers give wider fields of view and brighter images. Large binoculars such as 80mm are heavy and need a tripod regardless of magnification. If you want both bright images and high powers look into larger binoculars such as 80 or 100mm.
Question: can one side be adjusted seperately for my vision? I have decent vision in left eye and poor vision in right eye. thanks
Answer: Yes, first use the center adjustment to get it focused correctly for the left eye...now close your left eye and look only thru your right eye and adjust the right eyepiece until it comes into focus. Now you should be able to see clearly with both eyes!
Question: I wondering why so many people have said these work better than their telescopes? If these are 15x and a cheap tele is 100x why are these so great
Answer: The principal feature of a telescope is not magnification, but light gathering power. These 70mm binoculars gather about as much light as a 100mm telescope. But since you are using both eyes, the view will appear better. But even in my case, with a 13" diameter mirror in my scope, before I look for anything my binoculars are out checking out the field of view and much of the time even showing me what my telescope will be looking at. Binoculars force you to learn the sky and not be dependent on any coordinate system. They show you larger objects like the double cluster in Perseus, the Pleiades and Hyades star clusters in Taurus, the Beehive cluster in Cancer and even the Andromeda Galaxy better than you can in a telescope because you simply get to see the object in context. There are some large, face-on galaxies like M-33 and M-101, which are easier to spot in these binoculars than they are in a 10" telescope. Without the context of the black sky behind the object there is no contrast and you can't see it.Even with a large telescope, you'll spend most of your time observing at under 100 power. Selling telescopes by magnification is just taking advantage of newbies because you can obtain any magnification with any telescope depending on what eyepiece you use. The question is "will you be able to see anything?"

User questions & answers

Question: Is this binocualars appropriate for watching birds and wildlife in Alaska
Answer: Perfect! I have been told the Nikon lenses are the best and these are remarkably clear. The pair I bought are used to watch wildlife too and they will not disappoint. I was followed by a Steller eagle everday on my walks and she was so big I didn't need binoculars. Now I can see every feather! Best of luck in finding some great wildlife!
Question: Does it come with a case and lens protectors
Answer: Yes, but’s its a bit lacking. The soft sided case will protect against scratches, and will provide very good protection of the 4 outer lenses should you lose the well designed lens caps...but drop them from not even a table top height and they can get a devastating crack or complete snap off!! considering the quality of the binoculars (5 stars) I would expect something that offers more protection. I’ve had Minolta and other Nikons and the and the industry’s standards have gotten worse....Can’t they bring back the original hard cases?? And bring them back without a huge fee?
Question: I know nothing about binoculars. Am looking for small,l lightweight to watch granddaughter at indoor gymnastics meets. They move all around
Answer: these binoculars magnify things 10x greater than your normal vision. For an indoor gymnastics event I would look at something in the 3x - 8x magnification the 42 refers to the field of view. This might be okay for a gym depending on where you are sitting and size of the gym.
Question: What is the difference between the 8x42 or 10x
Answer: The first number; that is the 8 or the 10 refers to the magnification value. So, with a 10x42 you can bring things closer than with an 8x42. The 42 refers to the aperture or the size of the opening in the front element. The larger the aperture, the more light and things appear brighter. Choosing really depends on what you're using the binocular for and in what kind of light.
