At 35,000 feet (as a reviewer said before) you can see the printing on the plane on a clear crisp day. At night, and this is amazing to me, you can see the windows of the plane with the light coming out of them. If the planes are lower, the views are even more spectacular. NOW, you WILL need a TRIPOD with a VIDEO HEAD to help you keep the binoculars steady and to track the plane. I also recommend the Planefinder App so you know what is flying over you and what is approaching your area. I spend hours looking at the flight traffic over my house and these 25x70's are perfect and totally add to my enjoyment of looking at high altitude aircraft.

Answer:	Ranging is dictated by reticle and size of object. The math goes: the size of a known object at a know distance ex 1ft x 1ft at 100yd. Say it takes up 4 units of the reticle For 1ft at 100yds. Then when the object is 2 units in the reticle then you know the object is 200yd away. The units of measurement are on the glass so take know size measurements in the reticle at a known distance you want like a bird. Use a 6in ruler at 10yd and you will know your measurements ie how many reticle units per inch for 30ft

They're not going to help you see in the dark but rather reduce reflections off the objective lens to allow more visible light into the optical tubes as compared to ruby or yellow coatings and tints. If you want night vision optics, you need an infrared illuminator, a flashlight that emits light above the visual spectrum and a digital sensor as in a camera with the IR filter removed.
