It would be perfect except that the straps are stitched to make fairly small loops, so you can't fit a tripod between the strap and the side of the bag. (My thumb fits through the center one -- my index finger fits through the outer two). You could pass a velcro strap or tie through to secure the top of a tripod, but that strap would naturally be oriented up and down, along the height of the bag, where you'd really want the strap oriented the other way, across the width of the side of the bag, to secure a tripod.
