Answer:	Those more expensive units are not just surge protectors. They are monitors that will cut power to your RV not only in a surge situation, but in a low voltage, brown out situation. Low voltage will ruin certain delicate circuitry. This will cut off the low voltage, wait (usually 2 mins.), then turn the power back on. If you can afford it, this higher priced monitor is the way to go.

Answer:	You would need an adapter 20 amp to 30 amp. Does any campground only have 20 amp plugs? Probably not. All have at least a 30 amp plug.

Answer:	I'm torn: I like the portability, but will probably go for hard-wired. Each plug-in connection offers the potential for a high-resistance connection in case of dirt/corrosion on the plug blades. And it's one less thing to have to set up and worry about.

Answer:	The Power dogs are weatherproof, water resistant and are not waterproof. This means the unit will do okay as long as you do not immerse under water. You can always lock the power dogs to the shore power post with the bicycle lock using the plugin holes on the input plug.
Question:	Will this surge auto restore power.once it trips power. And will it restore the a/c
Answer:	PWD30 is the basic model and it does not have shut off capabilities. It will protect you against the high voltage spikes but it doesn't trip the power off. Hughes at the moment does not carry the more sophisticated model with the automatic shut off switches. The newer model with the automatic shut off will be released by the beginning of the next year.
Question:	Is the protector reusable after a event
Answer:	According to Hughes web site, they have a 'spike module' that is replaceable if it fails due to a 'large spike' (their words). Meaning, the surge protection circuitry is designed to repeatably damp 2400 joules of direct, high voltage events to ground. If (I assume)the surge is higher than 2400 Joules, the 'spike module' may be harmed in grounding it. I don't believe this necessarily means it is guaranteed to protect your camper if the spike exceeds the capacity but it may (my guess) act as a fuse. Not sure but that is my guess based on what I read at their site.

Answer:	Jen, The PWD30 does not shut off as the EMS versions do. The PWD30 is an entry-level or simple surge protector. It only surge protects, circuit analyzes, monitors park power, alerts your phone if a problem is imminent, all via Bluetooth. On February First, Hughes will have the only Bluetooth version of a surge protector that shuts off your RV in low or high voltage situations as well.

Question:	This is a surge protector and a shut off? What about lightning hitting the power will it stop it from going intonthe coach
Answer:	If lightning strikes directly near your camper, most likely nothing will protect it. With that said, lightning will likely strike a tree or power pole at the campsite. If hit is not direct, the surge protector will sense the voltage fluctuation and shut off power.
Question:	how do you know when its used up
Answer:	The Power Watchdog units have a sensor that will let you know when the surge module is used up. On the base model units - PWD30 or PWD50, there is a red LED light that will illuminate on the unit indicating the surge module needs to be replaced. On the EPO units (PWD30-EPO, PWD50-EPO, PWD30-EPO-H, and PWD50-EPO-H), the error code E9 will be displayed on the unit, as well as you will get an alert sent to your phone. So you will definitely know when you need to replace the modules.

Answer:	Hughes Autoformers has an offer, if the end user (customer) uses up the surge module within the first 2 years upon purchase, they will send out ONE free replacement module. After that, the prices are very inexpensive and range from $20-$35 or so. Since the module is replaceable, it really is like the last surge protector you will need to buy. You can always keep replacing that module if you need to.

Question:	If this hits high voltage and shuts power off to the camper is it fried? Meaning Is it a one time protection type of thing or does it just then reset
Answer:	Yes, when it comes to the Surge protection part, which is the main reason for getting one of these. Only good for one time. This is right out of the instruction manual. “If the red “SURGE” indicator LED is on, it means that the built-in surge protection has been sacrificed to protect your equipment and is no longer functioning properly. Other features will still function, but the unit is recommended to be replaced.”
Question:	Can you return items marked used whe you order if they do not work
Answer:	Yes
Question:	We had ours professionally installed not once but twice- once installed it keeps notifying that there is “reverse polarity” - why
Answer:	Professionally installed, by a Rv shop repair person or Licened Electrician? Makes a big difference if they really know what the heck they are doing. A LE understands how to trouble shoot with a multimeter and its not a guessing game. #2, have you tested your source power to ensure the outlet you are trying is not reversed, is it a new rv or used, does rv have a 12v converter, are all just basic questions to start considering, examining before it gets plugged in again.
Question:	Do all of the 35530 Hum like the review below indicates? Or is it a fluke
Answer:	My earlier response was via my cell phone, and a bit brief. I started my career out many many years ago as Electronics Repair Tech in the Navy, got my BS in EE & Computer Science, FCC license 1st attempt, wired several homes & industrial wiring ..... tons of bench time. I may be a bit slower & rusty. I never expected to see so much bad wiring, bad circuits, crazy voltage levels and hazards for RVs at RV parks in the US, Canada & Alaska during my 2018 summer trip! Again, Surge Guard 30Amp internal model saved me great expense, avoided all the potential damage and likely hours of repair time to my new travel trailer. It's a quality product with great features for the money. If you don't have the background to trouble-shoot and review the installation criteria have someone that does review if it's 100% correct. Write me back & give me better clue on how loud, when, and under what situation it Hums. I'd be happy to provide suggestions..... mrDave
