14 best dl dvds
DL DVDs, short for "Dual Layer DVDs," are a type of optical disc used for storing digital data. They are commonly associated with blank media, electronics, and accessories. Here's what you need to know about DL DVDs:
Dual Layer Technology: Dual Layer DVDs are so named because they have two layers for data storage on a single disc. Each layer can hold its own set of data, effectively doubling the disc's storage capacity compared to a single-layer DVD.
Storage Capacity: The most common type of DL DVD is the DVD+R DL (DL stands for "Double Layer"). These discs typically have a storage capacity of 8.5 gigabytes (GB), with each layer holding approximately 4.7 GB of data. This makes them suitable for storing larger files, videos, or backups.
Compatibility: DL DVDs are compatible with most DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. However, it's essential to ensure that your playback device supports dual-layer discs.Older DVD players or drives may not be able to read DL DVDs.
Recording Process: To burn data onto a DL DVD, you'll need a compatible DVD burner that supports dual-layer recording. When recording, the burner laser first writes data to the first layer, and then it refocuses to write data on the second layer.
Uses: DL DVDs are commonly used for various purposes, including:
- Storing large video files, such as movies or high-definition content.
- Creating backup copies of important data.
- Archiving digital photos, music, and other multimedia.
- Distributing software or games that require more storage space.
Writable and Readable Formats: DL DVDs come in both write-once formats (DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL) and rewritable formats (DVD+RW DL and DVD-RW DL). Write-once discs are suitable for permanent data storage, while rewritable discs can be erased and rewritten multiple times.
Packaging: DL DVDs are typically available in standard DVD-sized discs with a gold or silver reflective layer. They are sold in slim cases, spindle packs, or cake boxes, depending on the manufacturer and packaging preference.
Cost: DL DVDs are generally more expensive than single-layer DVDs due to their higher storage capacity. However, the cost has decreased over time as technology has advanced.
DL DVDs are a valuable storage medium for individuals and businesses requiring larger storage capacity than single-layer DVDs can provide. They offer a reliable way to store and distribute digital content, whether it's for entertainment, data backup, or software distribution.

About Verbatim's AZO Technology
Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), Verbatim’s parent company in Japan, brings extensive technological research and development to the table. Core technologies, like the AZO recording layer give Verbatim an offering like no other optical manufacturer. This unique and ultra-stable layer strongly resists UV light, withstands high laser and rotation speeds on newer drives and ensures compatibility with current DVD standards.
Verbatim’s AZO recording layer not only withstands the extremely high laser and rotation speeds of newer drives, it also maximizes their performance. Verbatim paid particular attention to the durability and light fastness of AZO; tests show that it is more stable than most recording dyes and the least affected by ultraviolet light.
AZO also offers high sensitivity for reliable high-speed recording and high reflectivity to eliminate read errors. The thinness of the recording layer is also critical. The thinner the layer, the higher the sensitivity and power margin; therefore, the better the DVD works for high-speed recording.
What does all this mean for you? Verbatim AZO technology translates into optical products that cost just a little more but are worth the slight difference. They are products you want—offering reliability, high read and write performance, high-quality photos and sound and superior archival protection that lasts.
AZO Technology

Compatibility
Our online reviews say it for us; we make DVDs that work--no coasters! Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), our parent company, has long-standing relationships with drive manufacturers who use our products to test their performance, making Verbatim DVDs the most compatible in the industry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I record over video/audio/data stored on a DVD R DL disc?
No. DVD R DL discs are dual layer DVD’s designed for one-time recording.
Do DVD R DL discs require a special DVD burner?
Yes. DVD R DL discs require double layer writers for recording. Verbatim DVD R DL are approved for high speed burning, up to 6X speed, allowing you to store up to 8.5GB of video in approximately 16 minutes.
Will a DVD R DL play in my regular DVD player?
Yes. Verbatim DVD R DL discs are compatible with most DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives.
What does the plus and dash found in the format mean?
When DVD media technology was first developed, the plus and dash formats used different writing and reading specifications. Today, most DVD writers and readers now work with no noticeable performance differences between plus and dash formats. Check with your manufacturers’ suggestion of DVD format for the best compatibility—especially in older technology.
So how do I know which DVD to use?
Recordable optical media is a natural choice for data archiving and backup. Choosing a DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL is ideal, as these write-once discs hold twice the capacity of standard DVDs as well as preventing contents from being erased or mistakenly replaced. Double layer discs are also a great option simple data backup when saving larger files.
Archive
The word archive conjures up thoughts of old, dark libraries or musty basements. However, today’s version of archiving is much different. Archiving digital files simply means creating a safe storage place for important files. Archived data is often a permanent record that is moved, not copied, from one system to another and retained for a specified period of time. Archiving is an easy activity that preserves your data with just a little preparation.
It’s best to have several copies of your digital archives to store in different locations. That’s why Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs are a natural choice for archiving. They’re inexpensive, portable and easy to store. Make sure you are using the right disc--the disc name you use should have an R on the end meaning it is write once. A write once disc prevents you from erasing contents or mistakenly replacing data. Also, to extend the life of your disc, consider Archival Grade media that include a gold layer that is naturally resistant to corrosion offering greater protection than standard silver discs.
Backup
You probably leave your digital files tucked away on your computers’ hard drive—assuming they are safe. But what if your computer crashes or files get corrupted somehow? You might lose your digital photos, music and data. Forever. Good news—it is simple to backup your digital files and you can have working copies that are quickly accessible. Getting started is easy; it only requires a backup routine performed regularly and a safe place to store your digital files.
BD-RE, DVD-RW/-RAM and CD-RW discs are a great choice for quick back-ups. Re-writable media allows you to add and edit content. This works well for constantly changing information.
Storage
Whether creating an archive or a backup, always remember to store your discs in a sleeve or case. This will help ensure they are protected from fingerprints, accidental spills, dust and debris, protecting your files for decades to come.
The ideal way to store discs is in an upright (like a book) position in a CD/DVD/Blu-ray case. Ideally, discs should be stored in a location 60-75 degrees F with 35-50% relative humidity. Fluctuations in the storage area should not exceed +/- 2 degrees F. in temperature; relative humidity should not fluctuate more than +/- 5%.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can these be used to view in a regular dvd player, not blue ray |
Answer: | All DVD burners that I am aware of from the last several years can use both single and dual layer DVDs. But you need to check the specs on your burner to know for sure. you can go into your control panel and switch to classic view if it isn't already, and then open the "system" icon. under the hardware tab you can go into the device manager. once there expand the category DVD/CD-ROM drives. it tells you the name. then you can just search that model on google with "info" at the end. |

Answer: | Yes, in fact if your player is newer and not that old, some regular discs don't work. But these will; I recently recorded a family video for family members and my regular dvd+ wouldn't play for some of them but these will play in both blue ray and older players. |
Question: | Will it work in a single layer burner |
Answer: | Don't know. I burn mine to play on blu-ray and dvd players. At work we use Dell laptops and the disks work fine--I had tested before lending a dvd to a co-worker. I use AnyDVD to burn, so don't know about fab. |
Question: | Why have not 100% of these disc copied correctly? why should i buy these |
Answer: | this is dvd+r and if your recorder supports dvd+ it will works if it doesn't it will not work. some recorder only supports either - or + or - and +. check the brochure of your recorder. |
Question: | Will they work to burn xbox games |
Answer: | I purchased this item back in September 5, 2012, and the description said 50. And yes, I got 50, and pretty much all of them are good. The spindle itself was broken in the borders, but the DVDs were OK, so I did not bother to return them. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can we use this for transferring videos from VHS |

Question: | Can you burn these using a normal cd drive or you got to have a different drive to burn them |
Answer: | Need DL burner to fill disc, never tried using in single layer burner, may work but waste of money. |
Question: | How do you format these first? Is that what you need to do to get them to work |
Answer: | I don't know why. I had much better luck with the TDK brand |
Question: | Hello, double layer means you can burn stuff on both sides right? If so is this 8.5gb on each side or 4.7 on each side |
Answer: | You should be able to; however, you may need some special software to get around the encryption on the game disc. |

User questions & answers
Question: | are available blank, printable dvd dl silver on both sides |
Answer: | Absolutely. I have transferred my 65 home VHS tapes to these and also regular size DVDs. A regular single layer DVD holds 4.7 gigabytes or about 1 hour of video. These double layer DVDs have a capacity of 8.5 GB or almost 2 hours of video. Beware that videos take up a huge amount of space on your hard drive as you transfer them first into the computer and then convert them into movie format. I use a Vidbox for converting analogue to digital and then Cyberlink PowerDirector for the final edit before burning. A rewarding winter activity! |
Question: | Are these ritex-s |
Answer: | you have to have a DVD burner for this type of disk. though you can put music on a DVD you must have a DVD burner to use them. if you did use it for music you would have to have a DVD player to play the music as well. so basically you should really be buying CD R's if you want to put music on a disk with a CD burner. then it will play in your car as well. |
Question: | Can this record video to video to this disk |
Answer: | You do not format empty dvd's. First install a burning application such as dvd fab to copy data or clone other dvds. Double layer dvds are for storing long movies or twice as much data. |
Question: | hub or clear hub printable |
Answer: | No, you can only burn on one side. double layer means that the laser beam can focus on two different layers on the same side of the DVD. Therefore it can store 8.5 GB of data as compared to a single layer which only stores 4.7 GB of data. |

Question: | What program is best to burn over 150 minutes of video. My current program only works with single layers |
Answer: | According to this question asked and answered before....... YES Question: In what country are these DVD's manufactured? Answer: Taiwan By Tinman on December 16, 2014 |
Question: | Will these also work in standard DVD writers that are non-printing |
Answer: | I did some research and According to SD Association 3,080 pics using a 10mp camera will fit on 8gb storage. The amount of pics will vary with size of pic and the megapixel of the camera. Now SD may be using a flash card but gigabits is the size so with 8.5 there should be more than enough room. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these intended for printed media, or do they also work well for recording TV shoes and movies |
Answer: | Yes. These DVD's are white and are meant to be printed in special printers setup for this. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 which can print onto this type of DVD. So yes, you can write to it on your DVD writer, but you can't use the "laserscribe" feature of your DVD writer (if it has this feature) to print on the DVD. You can write on the white surface with a Sharpie or marker though. |
Question: | The photo of the package only says "hub printable", not "inkjet printable". Why is that |
Answer: | No, thermal discs will not work with ink-jet or laser printers. The ink will not dry into the surface due to the different nature of the material. Days later you can still wipe off the ink with your finger. |

4. Data size: Please check the size of the files you're trying to burn, and make sure the total size does not exceed disc's capacity. For example, you can burn - 4.37 Gibibyte data to a 4.7GB(Gigabyte) DVD disc - 7.91 Gibibyte data to a 8.5GB(Gigabyte) DVD+R DL disc - 23.28 Gibibyte data to a 25GB(Gigabyte) Blu-ray disc - 1GB(Gigabyte) = 0.931Gibibyte // 1Gibibyte = 1.074GB(Gigabyte)
5. Playback device: Make sure the data is burned in the right file format which can be played back by the device. For example, many car CD players can only play the music CD in .CDA format, and many DVD players can play the movie DVD in .VOB format.
