11 best blank cds
Blank CDs, also known as CD-R (Compact Disc Recordable) discs, are a type of optical storage media commonly used for recording and storing digital data. Here are some key points about blank CD-R discs:
Storage Capacity: Blank CD-R discs typically have a storage capacity of 700 MB, which is equivalent to approximately 80 minutes of audio or a substantial amount of data, documents, or multimedia files.
Write-Once: CD-R discs are write-once media, meaning that once data is recorded or "burned" onto them, it cannot be altered or erased. This makes them suitable for creating permanent backups and archiving data.
Compatibility: CD-R discs are widely compatible with CD drives and CD/DVD players found in computers, CD players, DVD players, car stereos, and other consumer electronics devices.
Recording Speeds: CD-R discs come in various recording speeds, such as 1x, 4x, 16x, etc. The recording speed determines how quickly data can be written to the disc. Higher-speed discs require compatible hardware for optimal performance.
Data Formats: CD-R discs support various data formats, including audio CDs, data CDs (for storing files and documents), and mixed-mode CDs (combining audio and data content on the same disc).
Recording Process: To record data onto a CD-R disc, you need a CD burner (CD writer) on your computer and appropriate CD burning software. During the burning process, a laser etches pits into the disc's dye layer, creating the data pattern.
Labeling: CD-R discs typically have a printable surface where you can use markers or printable CD labels to add information, titles, or artwork. Printable CD-Rs are also available for high-quality label printing.
Longevity: The longevity of data stored on CD-R discs can vary depending on factors like the quality of the disc, storage conditions, and exposure to environmental factors. Proper storage in a cool, dry place can extend the life of the data.
Cost: Blank CD-R discs are generally affordable and cost-effective for creating backups, sharing files, and distributing content. Prices can vary depending on the brand, speed, and quantity.
Archiving: Blank CD-Rs are commonly used for archival purposes, especially for smaller-scale projects or personal data storage. They provide a reliable method for preserving important files and documents.
Blank CD-R discs have been a popular choice for data storage and distribution for many years, although their usage has decreased with the rise of higher-capacity media like DVDs and USB drives. However, they remain a valuable option for specific applications where their write-once, easy-to-read format is advantageous.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the country of origin regarding the manufacturer of these discs |
Answer: | The discs are made in Taiwan by CMC Magnetics, who has made them for many years and now owns the brand. |
Question: | Can you put essays on it |
Answer: | You can write data files onto the disc (i.e. doc or text files) as well as any computer files or record music but not both |
Question: | Will the music burned on these play on an ordinary cd player/changer |
Answer: | Yes, I have not had any problems playing cd music or mp3 music disc burned onto these disc. My DVD/CD burner burns these disc at 40X with never a failure. |
Question: | Is it erasable? I mean, can overwrite what I have previously recorded? If the answer is yes, will it affect the quality of the second recording |
Answer: | This is an old question with old answers. YES you can edit your content (at least on Windows 10). When you first insert the CD into your drive, you will be prompted to either use it as a USB or CD. If you select USB you can edit (add/modify/delete) files. As a test, I saved an MP4 file and a text file then deleted the text file. No problem. I also added a text file then modified its' contents and resaved the text file (same file name). No problem. The other bonus is that the MP4 was read and played off of this disk. Just like I would expect (as if it was on a USB stick). There should be no degradation in performance, but all media (hard disks, solid state (drives, memory, USB) have write limits. You can only write to a disk so many times. |

Backup v. Archive
The difference between backing-up your data and archiving your data is subtle, but important. Backing-up data is usually done on a daily or weekly basis, to account for any edits or additions you have made. Archiving is a more permanent solution – ideally, you archive data a few times a year and it remains safe for years to come.
Optical media is the ideal media for archiving. It is durable enough to last for years and takes up less physical storage space. The random access file retrieval makes finding data faster and easier. And with better backwards compatibility, data stored on optical media can be accessed for many years to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a difference /compatibitity issue between a CD.R written by a standalone cd writer and a computer / Windows media writter |
Answer: | CDRs are good in computers only. They can be recorded and played back there. They will not be accepted for recording by a component CD writer. For that, a CDR- Audio disc, commonly marked 'music' is needed. These will play back anywhere while the computer generated homemade discs will often skip periodically on car units, boom boxes, and various model guitar trainers. Professionally mastered and duplicated CDRs should be good anywhere. |
Question: | Will these discs record in my Magnavox 765 recorder |
Answer: | I'd guess these aren't likely to work on an older Philips/Magnavox recorder. Maybe some of the ones available in 2014 would have; they were then sourced from Ritek, but since late 2016 or so they have been made by CMC Magnetics, who also make discs branded as Memorex, Imation, Verbatim and others. The trouble seems more due the physical layout of the disc than to the type of dye used. |
Question: | will cd r's record & play back on a 2013 teac cd recorder |
Answer: | I'm using a 2008 TEAC CDRW880 hooked up to an Onkyo stereo reciever.. I've been using CD-R Music in the Maxell, TDK and Memorex brands and have never had any recording issues. The CD has to be a CD-R "MUSIC". A regular CD-R can't be used except on a computer to save pictures & video. |
Question: | is this digital audio recordable |
Answer: | Yes, these are the discs necessary for separate CD recorders not for computers. Dub then finalize and listen on any CD player |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone personalized with a full cd size sticker label |
Answer: | I have purchased tens of thousands of CDRs and labels over the past few years, for my business (recording/producing workshops at conventions), and have always used peel-off stick-on labels on regular CDRs just like this one. I have purchased this particular item ONLY ONE TIME a few months ago (about a thousand of them) to produce some CDs for a presenter to sell. These were THE VERY WORST ONES I have ever purchased...I had a ONE IN FIVE FAILURE RATE in my duplicators. I purchased them as they were the cheapest on Amazon...I will NEVER do it again. You would be way better off buying Verbatim or any other brand than these...all of them (except ones with a white print-on surface) will handle a stick-on label. |
Question: | Is the back side holographic? I need those ones and not the blue ones |
Answer: | I am not sure what you mean by Holographic, but it is definitely not the blue one. It is more about silver/greenish. |
Question: | Can these discs be used with audio CD burners |
Answer: | No. These discs are not compatible with Digital Audio recorder. |
Question: | What color is the back side? I need silver ones and it does not shows if it that or blue |
Answer: | These are white on the top and the normal silver on the recording side. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can these be used with LightScribe |
Answer: | No. And these CDs are not reliable. I had to throw away the whole set since they didn’t read well. For LightScribe you have to look for LightScribe specific CDs |
Question: | can you copy audio files to these |
Answer: | yes I do music cds all the time and also some data files these work great plus they are plain white so you can write on them |
Question: | Can you write on them with a permanent marker |
Answer: | Yes. You can use marker write on the surface. |
Question: | I want to print on top of the CDs using a rubber stamp. Will stamp-pad ink adhere to the surface or will it smear |
Answer: | craft stores or Amazon sell a solvent based stamp pad, "StarzOn" that works with rubber stamps (archival quality). I use on my CD's at church. They also sell a solvent cleaner (StarzOn) to wipe away your OOOOPs. You have to be careful while stamping on the cd's as they are very slippery and if you are not careful the stamp will slip on them. I find you have to hold the cd with your spare fingers while stamping it being careful to go straight down and up. |
Question: | these are regular cd-r's not music cd-r in the hub |
Answer: | They are regular cd-r data discs. You can use them for either data or music. |
Question: | How many cd's are included |
Answer: | This appears to be a 25-pack. If you look closely at the picture a "2" is visible, and the height suggests a 25-pack. Also, checking Maxell CD-Rs from other retailers has this identical picture and lists the item as a 25-pack. |
Question: | Is this really a pack of 50 for under $10? Just making sure because there is such a big price difference between 1 and 2 packs of CD's |
Answer: | I know that I bought 3 of these 50 packs since CDs are now going "out of style" in favor of thumb drives. I don't remember exactly how much I paid but I thought they were a good deal. |
Question: | how many are in the pack |
Answer: | Maxell 700MB CD-R Write Once Recordable Disc, 25 Pack 700MB CD-R Write Once Recordable Disc, 25 Pack Spindle |

Question: | Are the CD-Rs packaged with a "cake box" type container or are they enclosed with shrink wrap |
Answer: | These media are packed in a cake box. |
Question: | Will hand writing with permanent markers be clear |
Answer: | It would be. It is just like writing on a paper. |
Question: | So.. in between matte and gloss or closer to matte |
Answer: | Matte |
Question: | can I record music on them |
Answer: | Sure can! I use these to record a radio show I do onto them..I needed the white coating to add a pre-printed Avery label to. My blu-ray play that I play cd's on won't play the labeled ones if they are on the cheaper Verbatim, non-white coated ones. I am very happy with these discs! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can these be used for audio |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | What color are the disks on the recording side |
Answer: | The underside is the usual greenish toned silver. The tops are of course just white. |
Question: | Can these also be used as a regular cd without printing |
Answer: | I use them all the time and write on them with a big black sharpie. I do audio books in iTunes, which burns a lot of them (avg book is 12-15 CD's). Burn and write on them, as long as it is on the white side you can doodle them up. The quality of them is amazing, I have gone thru maybe 1000 of them with no coasters. The spindle is the weak link, the little tab things on the bottom break off easily and then when you pick it up the top comes off and you have CDs everywhere. But even then I picked them all up and they burned fine. |
Question: | What do you need to print on these discs |
Answer: | I use a Canon Pixma iP7220 printer, which sell for under a hundred dollars at Staples and many other big box stores. So far, I have made printed about 300 cd's with this printer, and I only had to replace the ink cartridges once...(buy generic ink replacements rather than the Canon replacements) I usually find the ink replacements on Amazon for under $20.00 for the XL size, which contain even more ink. I have used these Verbatim white cd's before, and they work flawlessly. Always make sure when you purchase printable cd's that you get the P/N # 95252...which is the smaller hole cd. If you buy any other number, the hole in the center will be larger in diameter, and the ink will smear on the plastic part of the hole. With the 95252, there is no smearing because the hole is smaller, and your printer will print to the very edge of the hole, resulting in a cleaner print out. I hope this info helps in your decision. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these slim jewel cases or standard classic jewel cases |
Answer: | They are slim jewel cases. They're not the standard size jewel case. One measures no more than a few millimeters. A standard jewel case is much bigger. If you want the standard size you need to buy them separately which is what I did. Slim cases are flimsy. |
