Some people find that the larger 6" head, which is very common, is too big for their particular needs, so we introduced a smaller 4" diameter. So this is the measurement from one side of the head to the other, or from the top to the bottom.

Answer:	No you don't need a pop filter for recording piano. A pop filter is specifically designed to prevent thuds or pops in the recording, caused by fast-moving air from sounds like "p" and "b" hitting the microphone. i.e. They are only really needed for voice recording.
