12 best speaker selector boxs
A speaker selector box is a device used in audio systems to route audio signals from a single source to multiple sets of speakers, allowing you to control which speakers receive the audio at any given time. These devices are commonly used in multi-room audio setups or home theater systems where you want to distribute audio to different areas or zones within a building.
Here are some key features and information about speaker selector boxes:
Multiple Zones: Speaker selector boxes typically come with multiple output channels, or zones, that can range from two to as many as eight or more. Each zone corresponds to a different set of speakers.
Source Selection: You can connect a single audio source (such as a receiver, amplifier, or media player) to the input of the selector box. The box allows you to select which zone or zones receive the audio from this source.
Volume Control: Some speaker selector boxes include volume control for individual zones, allowing you to adjust the volume independently for each set of speakers. This is especially useful for fine-tuning audio levels in different rooms.
Impedance Matching: In larger setups, impedance matching may be necessary to ensure that the connected amplifier or receiver can handle the load from multiple speakers simultaneously. Some selector boxes have built-in impedance matching circuits to help with this.
Protection Circuitry: Many speaker selector boxes have built-in protection circuitry to prevent damage to your amplifier or speakers. This can include overload protection and short-circuit protection.
Manual vs. Automatic: Speaker selectors can be manual or automatic. Manual selectors require you to physically switch between zones, while automatic ones can detect when speakers in a particular zone are in use and switch accordingly.
Remote Control: Some advanced models may come with remote controls, allowing you to change the selected zone and volume remotely.
Installation: Speaker selector boxes are typically installed in a central location, such as a distribution panel or equipment rack. They require proper wiring to connect the source, speakers, and power supply if needed.
Compatibility: Ensure that the speaker selector box is compatible with your audio equipment, including the impedance requirements and power ratings of your speakers and amplifier.
Speaker selector boxes are a valuable addition to distributed audio systems, as they provide flexibility and control over where and when you want to play audio throughout your home or facility. They are commonly used in residential and commercial settings to create customized audio zones and enhance the listening experience.

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use this on two sets of speakers, one set for front height & second set for side surrounds and switch between the two. Is it possible |
Answer: | I have speakers throughout my house. The Pyle Six-zone box allows me to have music in most every room. Hook each speaker you have to the Pyle and hook the Pyle to your receiver, speaker A or B. I have mine on B. Connect your receiver audio to your TV audio. There is a separate button on the Pyle that you should always keep positioned to on (button in). That is the easiest I can make it for you. This box works perfect for me and has never shut off. Good luck to you. |
Question: | Does this switch allow me to control sets of speakers independently |
Answer: | I am running an older Technics amp 2x100 6 pairs of speakers at times so I would say yes. Just remember you are putting this amp to a lot of work if you're running 6 pairs of speakers so watch the temps on the amp. |
Question: | One person indicated what they believed the protection button was. Does anybody know? Pyle technical support apparently doesn't exist |
Answer: | Maybe. The more speakers that you connect the lower their effective impedance as seen by the amplifier. And the lower the effective impedance the higher the current that the amplifier must generate in order to drive the speakers to a specific listening level without distortion. Most speakers, particularly the less costly ones, have a nominal 8 ohm impedance. So if you are driving one set of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing an 8 ohm load. But if your amplifier is driving 2 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing 1/(1/8 + 1/8) = a 4 ohm load; if your amplifier is driving 3 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing a 1/(1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8) = 2.7 ohm load, etc. With 6 speakers your amplifier will be seeing a 1.3 ohm load. And this would be a nominal and typically maximum load; in practice the load fluctuates depending on frequency and is effectively lower for short periods of time. Some amplifiers are designed to drive such low loads but many are not. If you try to do that with such a low current amplifier for a long period of time you will burn up the amplifier. That is why speaker selectors like this one have a protection button which basically adds a resistance in series with the speakers in order to increase the impedance seen by the amplifier. This will reduce the overall efficiency and you will notice that you have to increase the volume to get the same amount of sound as with the protection button off.So, if your amplifier has a sufficient current capability to drive those 6 speakers to your desired listening levels, great. If it doesn't, and if the listening level is too low for your tastes with the protection button on, you will need to either settle for lower volume or get a more powerful amplifier. |
Question: | How do I hook this up to my 5.1 receiver |
Answer: | The sound is great there is no distortion. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I am installing in-wall speakers in multiple rooms. My question is what is the best cheapest in-wall volume controller that would work with this speaker selector |
Answer: | There is no difference in for the install if you mount speakers in the wall or ceiling. |
Question: | Several questions, How do you hook it to your stereo, I am hard of hearing so I hooked 3speakers to my stereo system, this is hooked to my tv when I turn it up some times it turns off by it self I do not understand that I would like more speakers all the 5 star reviews makes this product sound real good. the receiver |
Answer: | I think so. They mount with a screw and clamp. The screw is accessible behind the removable front grill. The speaker comes with a template so you know what size to cut out in the wall or ceiling. After you insert the speaker into the recess, as you turn the screw, it tightens the clamp onto drywall, securing it in place. Although it is designed for drywall, I think it will work on anything with approximately the same thickness (~3/4 inch thick). |
Question: | How Do You Hook A PSS6 Speaker Selector To A Pyle PCAU46A |
Answer: | I would recommend a 5.1 home audio receiver. |
Question: | can i play all 6 speakers at the same time |
Answer: | The pyle pta44bt would be a good amp for the speakers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will fit on slider rack shelf with 16 inches wide and 15 inches deep? thank you |
Answer: | Good question. There are two things you should know before you pull the trigger on this. Banana plugs don’t insert far enough to stay put, and since I have this box hooked up to amplified speakers I kept getting a buzz. I bought special banana plug pig tails which I ended up removing because of said problem. What did work very well for me was to remove the banana plugs and strip and solder the speaker wires then tighten the threaded part against the inserted wire in the hole on the shaft, a very tight connection and that worked great. The other issue is you can’t turn off one the speakers which was reported in one of the comments. It is annoying but for my application one set of speakers is downstairs with their own volume control so, I just adjust the volume on them when in use. Hope this helps. |
Question: | I don't understand the description. what does the a /b button at each speaker volume control mean? doesn't the speaker pairs selected play together |
Answer: | Hi, I have one of these (returning the 1st one due to poor speaker terminal , I find that it will accept a 4mm and thicker Banana Plug. Amazon's model was poor fit, but MediaBridge's plug in more securely. I have not fully connected my XtremePro yet, but I hope this helps. |
Question: | Can the speaker connectors take banana plugs as opposed to threading the wires |
Answer: | I may not be understanding your question correctly, but with this item I am using the volume control on my amp for the front speakers and the volume on this device to control the volume on the rear speakers. So yes, I can set one set of speakers at a different volume that the other. Again, if I am understanding your question correctly. |
Question: | So I can hook up 4 sets of speakers on my new Pyle unit all on one receiver without worry of damage? Looked like chart had impedence fall off to |
Answer: | Yes as far as I can tell. Aka-when I only have on speaker on and flip the switch to turn another group on, the volume drops. It’s not necessarily half the volume though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this rack mountable |
Answer: | Hi, no it is not mountable. However, you may customize your own rackmount. Thank you. |
Question: | can I use this amp with my sony str 1030 reciever to add additional power |
Answer: | This is not an amp. It takes an output to speakers and can run different sets of speakers. If you do not have enough power in your receiver to run the speakers it will not work. Each time you turn on a set of speakers it will drop the power by a percentage. Some receivers can not handle more then three sets. |
Question: | Can one of the zones I hook to be a powered subwoofer (which itself feeds a pair of small speakers |
Answer: | No you cannot hook up a powered sub woofer to a speaker selector |
Question: | Will this work with an old devon dra 35v receiver from the mid 80s? i have 4 pairs of speakers and might need to use at least three pairs at a time |
Answer: | I do not recognize the Receiver you are referring to but the connections are very simple. The speaker wires that are driving your speakers will be shortened and then connected to the Pyle Home speaker selector. Then your speakers will be connected to the Pyle Home speaker selector to each of the different four zones that you have in your home/office/whatever. I am presently driving three pairs of speakers with one zone unused. I have had perfect performance. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Cna you still use wall mounted speaker volume controls in each room to control the volume |
Answer: | Yes! I am using 2 Niles box to run 4 Cerwin Vega AT15 and 4 Kenwoods KLZ999... no problem at all! |
Question: | The one page "manual" says will accept impedance from 4, 8, or 16. My speakers are 6 ohms. Are they compatible? Any risks |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | will this deliver 8ohms to each speaker |
Answer: | I'd guess from the setup you describe, the 5 speakers in the family room are for a 5.1 Home Theater System, the rest being for stereo audio playback. This device allows a receiver to drive 6 pairs of stereo speakersA dual zone A-V receiver would be best, main zone to drive the 5 speakers and then hook the niles to Zone 2 to run the house audio speakers. |
Question: | someone knows what the difference between this product and http://www.amazon.com/Matrix-Speaker-Selector-Switch both the same manufacturer |
Answer: | HPS-6 allows you to only turn individual speaker pairs on and off at the switch. SSVC-6 supports inputs from two different sources. Two stereo amplifiers playing different music or other audio can connect and be selected at the volume control on the switch. So each pair or speakers can play either of the two input sources and volume is adjustable. Power handling is likely very close with both units. Check sp;ecs if you are going to rock the casbah. impedance matching with be featured on both switches. That is a big deal. Keeps the amps from running or failing. |

Question: | could you theoretically wire this backwards with two different receivers outputting to a single set of speakers |
Answer: | You could be would not recommend as if you mistakenly engage both amps at the same time you will end up damaging your system. For your application would recommend the following item specifically designed for safely controlling a pair of speakers from two different amp / receivers. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0796KGVXT |
Question: | What are the dimensions, width x depth x height |
Answer: | 4x7Front height 1in back about 2in |
Question: | Can i hook up 2 pairs of 4ohm jbl provspeakers without putting significant strain on extron mini amp? it is rated 4ohm load min |
Answer: | Specs say impedance rating is 4-8 ohms. You are fine. |
Question: | I have 1 center channel ouput, will it work to go from 1 channel to 2 channels |
Answer: | It does exactly what the diagram shows … taking a L(+ and -) & R (+ and -) as input and sends it to 1 or 2 destinations. So you have 4 connectors INPUT and TWO SEPARATE OUTPUTS (4 commectors EACH). If you only want to send the CENTER channel to TWO OUTPUT CHANNELS … I never used it for this but 'presumably' connect to INPUT (L + and -) and connect OUTPUTS will be at (L+ and -) of EACH OUTPUT CHANNEL???. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a break then make switch to avoid connecting two amps |
Answer: | I don't think it matters. Thicker is better. |
Question: | One of the review shows photos with 6 cables, but there are 12 connectors... On the other hand, the cable awg |
Answer: | Hello. It is a passive device with no power. There is no limitation on its watts. |
Question: | Is there a max awg to be used to the inputs(yes banana plugs)just wondering based off the wires used inside? does awg spkr wire matter in comparison |
Answer: | This is a 2 by 3 switch box meaning that it can handle input from two amps and output to three sets of speakers. The volume controls allow you to adjust the volume for each pair of speakers independently. The volume control on your preamp is still the master volume control. The volume controls on this switch box allow you to adjust the relative volume between speakers. This allows you to make sure that speakers in multiple listening areas have the same volume, or one area can have higher volume while the other is at lower volume. |
Question: | Does anyone know how many watts per channel this will handle |
Answer: | The inputs are for your amplifier/receivers speaker signals +/- & L/R. The outputs are where you would connect the speaker wires. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what does it have volume control |
Answer: | Yes. Besides volume for each pair their is also an A/B switch for each set of speakers. So as long as you dont have 2 inputs running at the same time, the "B" side would be same as turning off. BTW...It also worked great for what I needed, pretty pleased with the purchase. |
Question: | I assume you just take any one speaker output and connect it to one of the inputs on the switch?? does it matter if its right or left |
Answer: | No banana fittings required, you can just insert stripped wire and tighten. |
Question: | When 2 amps + 3 speakers are hooked, how do you turn OFF speaker that is not in used? And does that totally disconnect it from the circuit? -cris |
Answer: | To keep cost down |
Question: | Do you have to use banana fittings, or is there a hole thru the terminal when you unthread that you can just insert stripped wire and tighten |
Answer: | 17" wide5-1/4 deep2-1/4" highGreat device!!! |
Question: | Why do none of these units have a remote control |
Answer: | Should be ok, nothing bigger than 14 gauge |
Question: | what are the exact dimensions of this |
Answer: | I have not tried that but it should work. I would not engage the protection button since there is no impedance problem with 70 volt systems. |
Question: | Will this device handle 135w of power from our new sony strdh130 2 channel stereo receiver? What gauge speaker wire do I need to buy |
Answer: | Since the “Amazon 2x4 selector” is basically a switch box (completes the amp to speaker pair circuit you want) my gut says yes. But since you would be reversing the intended signal direction I can't comment on if auto impedance correction and overload protection, or even volume control will perform properly. And by reverse signal direction I mean to get your desired 4 amps mapped to 2 speaker pairs (4x2) rather than the intended 2 amps mapped to 4 speaker pairs (2x4) you would have to reverse your cable hookups on the back of the “Amazon 2x4 selector”. In other words you would have to connect your amp1, amp2, amp3, amp4 to “Amazon 2x4 selector” speaker1, speaker2, speaker3, speaker4 output jacks. And also connect your speaker1, speaker2 to “Amazon 2x4 selector” amp1, amp2 input jacks. Now with this configuration the “Amazon 2x4 selector” A/B amplifier button next to each volume knob will really be your speaker1, speaker2 selector. And your amplifier selector will probably have to the amplifiers themselves since you would want avoid sending more than 1 amplifier signal to any one speaker pair. Setting a volume knob to zero will may also accomplish this but I can’t be sure. Now what is the risk in trying this? Since the “Amazon 2x4 selector” is not powered (no power cord/supply directly to it) I think it is low. If it doesn't work you still have a really good 2x4 capability with auto impedance correction and overload protection. And if you are really persistent you could get (or build) two very simple 4x1 selectors. Label one of them A and one B. Connect all four amps to A selector and all four amps to B selector. Then connect A selector to Amp A input on “Amazon 2x4 selector” and connect B selector to Amp B input on “Amazon 2x4 selector”. Good luck. I applaud you desire to get it the way you want. |
Question: | Will this work with a 70v amplifier and speakers, or just 8ohm |
Answer: | Not sure that I understand your question. This will provide protection for wattage more than 100 watts RMS, with peaks up to 200 watts. If you have a low wattage amplifier and the amplifier distorts due to being overdriven, the speakers are at risk of damage. |
Question: | Can the sp 94-v switcher work in reverse: 2 4-channel receivers and 2 sets of speakers? i want to use the same speakers for both amps/ like bi-wire |
Answer: | This speaker selector is 'Impedance Correcting' so whether you are connecting only one speaker in the pair, say the Left Speaker, or both speakers in the pair, the impedance will not be affected. Impedance affects each channel, not pair. In other words, only the Left Speakers will affect the impedance for the Left Channel, regardless whether the Right Speaker is hooked up or not, but with this Speaker Selector and its 'Impedance Correction', it will adjust the impedance to stay above 4 ohms. |
Question: | Can this one protect speakers not overloaded from high wattage amplified |
Answer: | I did mine with banana plugs. It's the easyest way to do. I got mine from amazon and they are way cheaper then Best Buy. I have a surround sound system with another b option. I used that. If you have a regular receiver then use all your main speakers as A or B or both depending on your receiver. If you have a option c speaker that is what you use. If you only have A & B then you main speakers will be A. Then take Speaker B and connect it to the main speaker Selector. From there you can start using speakers from other areas and plug them in. Note the speaker wires from other rooms like m.ine should be from the attic inside the wall behind the receiver, or what makes your rooms easy for you. I also purchased wall banana plug outlets from Home Depot, Best Buy for your buck. The system works great and is the best I have ever owned. It also protects your receiver from blowing any fuses. It's a click by click system that helps you control each area egual. Hope thi |
Question: | How is impedance affected if I connect only one speaker per channel (4 in total) instead of the full pair |
Answer: | It says warranty listed on user manual and in table of content it says Limited warranty, page 5 but page 5 is installation tips. I've read the whole thing and cant find any mention of warranty. That said, I've had it several months now and works great. |
Question: | How is the best way to hook this up to a receiver in the input section? ARe banana plusg also needed for connection to the receiver |
Answer: | I don't think so if I understand your question. This is a passive system (no power supply) with wired input/output. I have bluetooth connected to one of my component amp inputs, and my amp is wired to this distribution system. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you wire this switch to run 2 different radios to 1 set of speakers |
Answer: | No. Speakers get their power from the source, i.e. tv, a/v or other. You are simply selecting the speakers you which to have on. |
Question: | what are the dimensions of this switch |
Answer: | The manual says it is rated for 10 watts per channel. But I am running with about 50 watts per channel and no problems. |
Question: | Does this unit need to be plugged into a power source |
Answer: | You can choose 2-IN-1-OUT for 2 amplifiers to 1pair speakers, or in turn 1-IN-2-OUT for 1 amplifier to 2 pairs speakers. So you could compare 2 amps or 2 pairs of speakers. |
Question: | How many watts is this switch rated for |
Answer: | This is a speaker switcher. 2 channels in, with a positive and negative terminal each. 2 pairs of left and right outputs with positive and negative each. It's a pretty simple box, I need to buy more of them actually. I don't know what gauge it will accept. Seams like it would accept pretty big gauge. I always used banana plugs or really thin wire. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for a onkyo Home entertainment system |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | There seems no definitive answers here. Can you connect the speaker and amp wires via Banana Plugs |
Answer: | Don’t use banana plugs. Just twist your 12 ga wire more or just cut a couple strands off until it goes in. |
Question: | Will "banana plugs" work with the connections |
Answer: | 12 gauge and its tight |
Question: | Can the volume to speaker part two be louder than the volume to speaker pair one |
Answer: | Either amp can access the speakers, however, you must choose which speaker you desire as both speakers cannot be on at the same time. Only one or the other. The same rule applies to the amps as well. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Instructions are unclear vs markings on the unit. does '+' mean in ..and '—' mean com? (it appears such in the schematic) jim |
Answer: | Yes. We put a speaker selector on it and have it wired to 2 sets of speakers. 1 set has 2 speakers and 1 set has 4 speakers. |
Question: | What colors does this control come in |
Answer: | Hi sounds like you dont want to see the tranformer , with cable running down the wall. What I did with mine if you know about wiring electrical and things like that I cut the wire from my Transformer to the unit and I made it longer and I run a wire up into my attic where I have a light switch with a plug .plugged in the transformer ,made the wire longer so now it's a hard wire unit basically that's what it looks like because all you see is just the unit in the wall with the faceplate no wire sticking out of it and that's how I did mine don't know if you have access to your attic and if you have a light up there with an outlet but that will be the best way to have a clean job for it, hope this will help a bit, also to your question, this unit comes with a 120v to 12 volt dc converter |
Question: | Can I use this for two source inputs and one output? IE: Channel A = (inA, comA = Chromecast); Channel B = (inB, comB = other source); out=speakers |
Answer: | I assume you are referring to the bluetooth name. I have 6 units, they all use the same name, but that isn't a problem, because they don't advertise unless you push the volume knob. After you pair each one, rename it on your phone, no need to rename on the receiver, the phone can tell them apart. So if you have previously paired to a phone, when you turn the unit on it will try to reconnect to its existing paired device. If you want to pair to a new device, press the volume knob while you are scanning for devices from your phone, then rename it in bluetooth settings on your phone after it is paired. The only time you are going to have an issue is if you press the volume knob on 2 devices at the same time, you wont know which is which, but since you probably cant be in 2 rooms at once to do that, shouldn't ever be an issue, and whichever one it pairs to, you can rename to distinguish which is which.. |
Question: | Does this control 2 speakers or 2 pairs of speakers? The pictures are deceiving and I don't see it noted. Thanks |
