10 best ir speaker selectors

IR (Infrared) speaker selectors are devices used in audio systems to control and distribute audio signals to multiple speakers in different rooms or zones of a building. These selectors are typically part of a whole-house audio system and are designed to allow users to choose which speakers receive audio and adjust the volume remotely using an infrared remote control.

Here are some key features and functions of IR speaker selectors:

  1. Speaker Zone Control: IR speaker selectors enable users to control the audio output to different speaker zones or rooms within a building. This allows for customized audio distribution, where you can play music in one room while muting or adjusting the volume in another.

  2. Infrared Remote Control: IR technology allows users to operate the speaker selector remotely. This means you can change the audio source, adjust volume levels, and even turn speakers on or off without physically accessing the selector box.

  3. Audio Source Selection: These devices often provide multiple audio source inputs, such as CD players, streaming devices, or receivers.Users can switch between these sources to play different audio content in various zones.

  4. Volume Control: IR speaker selectors typically include volume control for each zone, allowing users to adjust the volume independently for different rooms or areas.

  5. Expandability: Some models allow for the expansion of speaker zones by adding additional selectors or amplifiers, making it possible to distribute audio to more areas.

  6. Compatibility: IR speaker selectors are designed to work with various audio systems, including home theaters, multi-room audio systems, and distributed audio setups.

  7. Audio Quality: The quality of audio distribution is an important consideration. Good-quality IR speaker selectors ensure minimal signal loss and maintain audio clarity across all zones.

  8. Wiring: Installation often requires running speaker wires from the selector box to each speaker in the different zones. Some advanced models may support wireless speaker connections.

  9. Integration: Depending on the model and brand, IR speaker selectors may be compatible with home automation systems, allowing users to control audio distribution through a centralized smart home controller or app.

  10. Protection: Many IR speaker selectors include protection features to prevent overloading or damaging speakers, especially when multiple zones are active simultaneously.

In summary, IR speaker selectors are audio distribution devices that enable users to control and distribute audio signals to multiple speaker zones within a building. They offer the convenience of remote control via infrared technology, making it easy to customize audio playback in different rooms or areas of a home or commercial space. These devices are valuable additions to whole-house audio systems and can enhance the overall audio experience.

User questions & answers

Question: I want to use this on two sets of speakers, one set for front height & second set for side surrounds and switch between the two. Is it possible
Answer: I have speakers throughout my house. The Pyle Six-zone box allows me to have music in most every room. Hook each speaker you have to the Pyle and hook the Pyle to your receiver, speaker A or B. I have mine on B. Connect your receiver audio to your TV audio. There is a separate button on the Pyle that you should always keep positioned to on (button in). That is the easiest I can make it for you. This box works perfect for me and has never shut off. Good luck to you.
Question: Does this switch allow me to control sets of speakers independently
Answer: I am running an older Technics amp 2x100 6 pairs of speakers at times so I would say yes. Just remember you are putting this amp to a lot of work if you're running 6 pairs of speakers so watch the temps on the amp.
Question: One person indicated what they believed the protection button was. Does anybody know? Pyle technical support apparently doesn't exist
Answer: Maybe. The more speakers that you connect the lower their effective impedance as seen by the amplifier. And the lower the effective impedance the higher the current that the amplifier must generate in order to drive the speakers to a specific listening level without distortion. Most speakers, particularly the less costly ones, have a nominal 8 ohm impedance. So if you are driving one set of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing an 8 ohm load. But if your amplifier is driving 2 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing 1/(1/8 + 1/8) = a 4 ohm load; if your amplifier is driving 3 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing a 1/(1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8) = 2.7 ohm load, etc. With 6 speakers your amplifier will be seeing a 1.3 ohm load. And this would be a nominal and typically maximum load; in practice the load fluctuates depending on frequency and is effectively lower for short periods of time. Some amplifiers are designed to drive such low loads but many are not. If you try to do that with such a low current amplifier for a long period of time you will burn up the amplifier. That is why speaker selectors like this one have a protection button which basically adds a resistance in series with the speakers in order to increase the impedance seen by the amplifier. This will reduce the overall efficiency and you will notice that you have to increase the volume to get the same amount of sound as with the protection button off.So, if your amplifier has a sufficient current capability to drive those 6 speakers to your desired listening levels, great. If it doesn't, and if the listening level is too low for your tastes with the protection button on, you will need to either settle for lower volume or get a more powerful amplifier.
Question: How do I hook this up to my 5.1 receiver
Answer: The sound is great there is no distortion.

User questions & answers

Question: When the unit is power cycled, does it retain it's last setting for each speaker zone? Or does it default to either 'on' or 'off' for each zone
Answer: Hello, looks like Amazon has the incorrect information for this item.Tripod weight: 5.88 lbs (2.67kg)Shipping weight: 8 lbs
Question: Does the 7 zone with remote model maintain settings after the power is disconnected/reconnected
Answer: If I remember correctly, this is a tripod only. Most folks who buy a good tripod like this have a specific head in mind, or, like me, already have one. I have a ball-head that works great. Really like this tripod.
Question: What does 2x source mean? And does it come with wires to connect to the receiver
Answer: Hello. Yes, so long as the slider you are using will accept either a 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 head mount thread then you should be able to use it with no problem. The only issue would be that with no head on the tripod - this item is for the tripod legs only - your capacity to change the orientation / level / etc of that slider is going to be limited. Question: does this work with onkyo

User questions & answers

Question: Can you tell me what the warranty is on this product
Answer: This is just a simple switch - there are no delay elements in it. If you are experiencing echo, reverb, or feedback, the problem must be somewhere else in your setup.
Question: Can I connect this to my receiver via bluetooth
Answer: This won’t do what you’re trying to accomplish. This is a brilliant, yet simple, A/B switch. I use A for my PC audio out and B for my cell audio out to one set of headphones.
Question: what is the maximum continuous amplifier power for which this product is compatible? The SSVC6 says 300W, but I can't find a spec for this one. THXS
Answer: Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: You had me curious as to the answer, so I just hooked mine up the way you describe. I connected one PC going INTO the front headphones-out port, and another PC going INTO the speaker-out in the rear. Then I hooked up my speakers to INPUT B, and my headphones to INPUT A. That turned the A/B switch into an output selector and the front switch into an input selector. Everything worked fine, but for the completeness of the answer, I have to point out that the first time I connected things this way I got a 60Hz hum in my speakers, but disconnecting and reconnecting fixed that problem. I tested the speaker, volume, mic, and mute functionality, and they all worked well. Again, for the completeness of this answer, if I connect my Dell G7 laptop to a Type-C docking station (handling the audio, too), and the docking station connects to the Nobsound, and my headphones (with mic) are plugged into the Nobsound's headphones-out, then the laptop doesn't detect my headphones' mic. But that doesn't really bear on the answer you are looking for ( it's probably just a config I haven't sussed out yet); it's just something to be aware of.
Question: What do I need to look for in a receiver to pair with this volume control selectors
Answer: While you can connect up to four pairs of speakers, this device will not work as a surround sound device like having front, rear, center channels like a Dolby or DTS system. This only splits a stereo signal to multiple pairs of the same exact stereo signal.Hopefully this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: My Yamaha Receiver (750) has A and B speaker outputs. Would I connect the ISS4 inputs to the B outputs and then run 4 separate speaker pairs from the B side of the receiver leaving the A side for the main listening room speakers
Answer: It really depends on the type of speaker configuration you have in your main zone. If you have a 5.1 environment in your main zone the best option is to connect the iss4's inputs to the zone 2 terminal on the back of your 750. This will allow you to listen to different sources in each zone at the same time. For instance you could watch a DVD in your main zone and in zone 2 you could be listening to an iPod or the fm tuner. Hope this answers your question, if you choose this option then remember you can only listen to analog sources in a zone 2 setup.
Question: I can see how to select zones, how do you select the source? I have a phono amp and home theater amp I need to switch between, one set of speakers
Answer: There is an round A/B button next to each rectangular zone button. Undepressed your are selecting source A. Press the button in and you are now selecting source B.
Question: Can I run the 6 pairs of speakers at the same time? If this can be done, the volume drops
Answer: Of course the volume drops. You will have 6 parallel circuits, each getting 1/6 the current. Basic rules of electricity.
Question: I've bought this and I have connected it to 4 zones of in-wall speakers but the volume is extremely low! Do I need a receiver before the input
Answer: What are you powering the speakers with?? In an ideal setup this device would be connected after the stereo amplifier or a/v receiver. It's is recommended to have an power source of at least 50W per channel supplying power to this volume selector. If you have impedance matching volume controls make sure the protection circuit button is in the off position(pushed out). If you have no volume controls push the circuit protection button in so that it equalizes the impedance.

    User questions & answers

Question: Will fit on slider rack shelf with 16 inches wide and 15 inches deep? thank you
Answer: Good question. There are two things you should know before you pull the trigger on this. Banana plugs don’t insert far enough to stay put, and since I have this box hooked up to amplified speakers I kept getting a buzz. I bought special banana plug pig tails which I ended up removing because of said problem. What did work very well for me was to remove the banana plugs and strip and solder the speaker wires then tighten the threaded part against the inserted wire in the hole on the shaft, a very tight connection and that worked great. The other issue is you can’t turn off one the speakers which was reported in one of the comments. It is annoying but for my application one set of speakers is downstairs with their own volume control so, I just adjust the volume on them when in use. Hope this helps.
Question: I don't understand the description. what does the a /b button at each speaker volume control mean? doesn't the speaker pairs selected play together
Answer: Hi, I have one of these (returning the 1st one due to poor speaker terminal , I find that it will accept a 4mm and thicker Banana Plug. Amazon's model was poor fit, but MediaBridge's plug in more securely. I have not fully connected my XtremePro yet, but I hope this helps.
Question: Can the speaker connectors take banana plugs as opposed to threading the wires
Answer: I may not be understanding your question correctly, but with this item I am using the volume control on my amp for the front speakers and the volume on this device to control the volume on the rear speakers. So yes, I can set one set of speakers at a different volume that the other. Again, if I am understanding your question correctly.
Question: So I can hook up 4 sets of speakers on my new Pyle unit all on one receiver without worry of damage? Looked like chart had impedence fall off to
Answer: Yes as far as I can tell. Aka-when I only have on speaker on and flip the switch to turn another group on, the volume drops. It’s not necessarily half the volume though.

    User questions & answers

Question: How do I hook up 4 outdoor speakers for the layman
Answer: I've never owned the Slik, but the RetiCam I have. (ready for what?) But I do own a Slik 700 prodx, which, like all their tripods, is very sturdy and well-built. Features-wise the RetiCam is probably superior, but this doesn't mean crap if it isn't durable. If you plan on using it a lot IN THE FIELD for macro, as I tried to do, the SLIK is probably far superior. If you plan on using it at home to shoot toys etc. then the RetiCam will serve you well. Just don't get it mixed up with the toys or you'll never find it (My son has toys made better than this). I'd still go with the better build quality you get from Slik. POC? NOT!!
Question: Will this item allow me to run 2 center speakers off of 1 center channel; and allow for correct speaker impedance? My receiver runs hot in doing so
Answer: It is possible, but it really depends on what you want kind of adjustment you want to do and the size camera you will have on the ballhead. The friction adjustment is fairly coarse but it is very easy to adjust and I can make quick adjustments to re-position my camera.
Question: can this be used with a 25V setup
Answer: The circumference not extended is 9"The circumference extended is 11"
Question: Why do none of these units have a remote control
Answer: Yes. I am pretty certain that it works on the entire "U" for Universal line.
Question: what are the exact dimensions of this
Answer: Yes, it should work with an S-105. I have one similar enough to the S-105, (Has an identical head) and this quickpost works superbly in it.
Question: Will this device handle 135w of power from our new sony strdh130 2 channel stereo receiver? What gauge speaker wire do I need to buy
Answer: Researching other websites that sold this piece I came up with the following information... Fits: 35DN, 102, 112, 212DLX, 1000, SL-61, SL-51S (Japanese Version) S103, S302, Slik 1000, Sport II, U112, U210, U212DLX, and from another site... Quick-release post for U212 DX. Also for S502 (discontinued), S302 (discontinued), U102 (discontinued), U112 (discontinued), U112 Deluxe (discontinued), U212 (discontinued), 444 Sport II (discontinued), 444 Super Sport (discontinued). It seems it fits all the Silk heads of this type. Don't know why yours isn't listed. If it looks like this one, I would say it fits as this one looks like my head. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/preowned-slik-s104-system-camera-1791763474 (Cut and paste if you need to see it.)
Question: Will this work with a 70v amplifier and speakers, or just 8ohm
Answer: You screw the threaded post into the socket on the bottom of the camera, and the chrome, disk-shaped bottom of the U212 fits into the socket on the tripod's mounting platform - then you turn the lever on the side of the mounting platform until the U212 is firmly grasped by the mechanism in the socket.

2x5 Speaker Selector Switch Switcher Volume Control, Commercial Grade

Based on 70 reviews Check latest price

    Product description

The NEW TEC-905B speaker selector with volume control will allow you to use two stereos with up to 10 speakers (5 pairs) placed around the house, restaurant, office, warehouse etc. You can turn each set of speakers on and off, and adjust the volume for each pair as well. The input for the TEC-905B comes from your stereos, amps, receivers, etc. This just means you take the speaker wires from the back of your stereo, amp, etc. and plug them into the either input terminals on the back of the TEC-905B. Each speaker pair has independent rotary volume control. Volume adjustment and impedance matching is accomplished through internal heavy-duty multi-trapped transformers for each speaker. This allows complete, independent control of each pair with maximum efficiency and virtually no generation of heat. The built-in precision auto impedance correction and overload protection circuits will safe-guard your amplifiers and speakers from damage due to excessively low impedance when all 10 speakers are playing at the same time. Rear gold plated color coded professional grade banana socket connections accept up to 12AWG wires. Also has headphone input with individual volume control as well. Features: Each pair of speakers can be alternatively switched to either amplifier A or B Frequency response: 20 Hz to 20 kHz High efficiency transformer based designed, fully automatic amplifier impedance protection Compatible impedance with 4 - 16 ohm speakers 100W RMS, 200W peak per channel power handling Individual rotary volume controls Master ON/OFF switch connects and disconnects the signal distribution from the amplifiers to the speakers Dimensions: 2.25"H x 15.5"L x 8.5"W Weight : 12 lb Headphone input with volume control Pre-printed zone and equipment list label included for easy speaker connection identification Sturdy metal enclosure Passive design, no power required

    User questions & answers

Question: Cna you still use wall mounted speaker volume controls in each room to control the volume
Answer: Yes! I am using 2 Niles box to run 4 Cerwin Vega AT15 and 4 Kenwoods KLZ999... no problem at all!
Question: The one page "manual" says will accept impedance from 4, 8, or 16. My speakers are 6 ohms. Are they compatible? Any risks
    Answer: yes
Question: will this deliver 8ohms to each speaker
Answer: I'd guess from the setup you describe, the 5 speakers in the family room are for a 5.1 Home Theater System, the rest being for stereo audio playback. This device allows a receiver to drive 6 pairs of stereo speakersA dual zone A-V receiver would be best, main zone to drive the 5 speakers and then hook the niles to Zone 2 to run the house audio speakers.
Question: someone knows what the difference between this product and http://www.amazon.com/Matrix-Speaker-Selector-Switch both the same manufacturer
Answer: HPS-6 allows you to only turn individual speaker pairs on and off at the switch. SSVC-6 supports inputs from two different sources. Two stereo amplifiers playing different music or other audio can connect and be selected at the volume control on the switch. So each pair or speakers can play either of the two input sources and volume is adjustable. Power handling is likely very close with both units. Check sp;ecs if you are going to rock the casbah. impedance matching with be featured on both switches. That is a big deal. Keeps the amps from running or failing.

    User questions & answers

    Question: Does this support hdr
Answer: The quick release is made with a standard SAE 1/4 inch thread. It should fit the tripod, however, I use it on my unipod.
Question: Does this support dolby vision
Answer: No it will not. You need a 6027 found at: http://www.tripodquickrelease.com/Slik_Quick_Releases.htm
Question: Can i still change tv volume and turn tv on via apple tv remote when connected through this
Answer: Yes, I got this specifically for my Slik Sprint Pro II tripod, which uses head SBH-100DQ. This is the head it comes with by default if you order the "Slik Sprint Pro II Tripod in Gun Metal With Quick Release Ball Head & Case" version. Fits perfectly.
Question: Hi, i was wondering what is the max hdmi input cable distance and the max output cable distance for this converter box? thanks
Answer: I don't think so. The tripod can only raise about 1' maximum off the table top. Not enough height for the vertical clearance to shoot down on a book page.

    User questions & answers

Question: What's the power handing on this per channel, pls confirm if 100 is peak or RMS
Answer: A: I would think it would be strong enough. Although I can't really imagine why you would have to do that. This mount will never be stronger and more stable than the way it was designed to be mounted. Also..another reason for the design is to ensure that the base plate that goes under your camera and the receiver for flush under the camera body so there would be little or no obstruction in camera function or the tripods abilities. Most tripods can tilt your camera to virtually every angle so depending on the camera body, if you do not use the quick release the way it was designed you may or may not be contributing to more stress on the base of the camera..
    Question: Does this product work
Answer: The part that screws on to the tripod is 1 3/8 inches by 2 3/8 inches (the long part was measured in the middle where the latch is located.) The part that screws on the camera is 1 1/8 inch by 1 1/2 inch.
    Question: Does this product work
Answer: This thing is flush on BOTH sides. The cork part your camera sits on AND the part that sits on you tripod or other mount. Even the release handle fits between the two surfaces and does not interfere. I have one of these on a permanent windshield mount for an action cam I am using as a dash cam. Makes it SO easy to remove the camera for security reasons. I would have posted pictures but there doesn't seem to be a way to post them on this answer.
Question: I have 10 klipsch r-1650-c speakers in 5 diff rooms, i plan on using them with a yamaha r-s202 reciever, can this selector box handle those
Answer: Hello. Yes this quick release plate is metal - definitively not plastic. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Have a great day!Deven MorganEvent Cameras
