11 best winegard omni directional antennas
Winegard Omni-Directional Antennas are a type of TV antenna designed to receive television signals from multiple directions without the need for manual adjustment. These antennas are commonly used by consumers who want to access free over-the-air (OTA) TV broadcasts. Here's what you should know about Winegard Omni-Directional Antennas:
Omni-Directional Reception: The primary feature of these antennas is their ability to receive TV signals from 360 degrees around them. Unlike directional antennas that need to be pointed towards a specific broadcast tower, omni-directional antennas can capture signals from various directions simultaneously.
Compact Design: Winegard Omni-Directional Antennas typically have a compact and low-profile design, making them less conspicuous when installed on rooftops or outdoor locations. Some models are even designed for indoor use.
Easy Installation: Installing an omni-directional antenna is usually straightforward. They often come with mounting hardware and clear instructions for setup. This simplicity makes them a popular choice for DIY enthusiasts.
VHF/UHF Compatibility: Many Winegard omni-directional antennas are designed to receive both VHF (Very High Frequency) and UHF (Ultra High Frequency) signals. This ensures compatibility with a wide range of TV channels.
Amplification Options: Some Winegard omni-directional antennas come with built-in signal amplifiers to improve reception, especially in areas with weaker signals. These amplifiers can enhance the quality and range of TV channels you can receive.
Weather-Resistant: Outdoor models are typically built to withstand various weather conditions, including rain and wind. They are constructed with durable materials to ensure long-lasting performance.
Multiple Output Options: Depending on the model, these antennas may have single or multiple outputs, allowing you to connect them to multiple TVs or other devices.
Compatibility with Digital and HDTV Signals: Winegard Omni-Directional Antennas are designed to receive digital and HDTV signals, providing access to high-quality broadcasts in areas with strong signal coverage.
Range: The range of reception for omni-directional antennas can vary depending on the specific model and local signal conditions. It's important to choose an antenna with an appropriate range for your location.
Price Range: The cost of Winegard Omni-Directional Antennas can vary depending on the features and capabilities of the antenna. Generally, basic models are more affordable, while those with advanced features like signal amplification may be priced higher.
In summary, Winegard Omni-Directional Antennas are popular choices for consumers looking to access OTA TV broadcasts without the need to constantly adjust the antenna's direction. They are relatively easy to install and offer compatibility with both VHF and UHF signals, making them suitable for a wide range of TV channels. Additionally, some models come with signal amplification for improved reception, and they are available in various price ranges to suit different budgets.

User questions & answers
Question: | can it be mounted upside down for attic installation |
Answer: | I would connect it and move it around while someone watches signal strength on tv before mounting. Sometimes different building materials can affect it. |
Question: | Can it be used in the attic |
Answer: | Yes, be aware that attic mounting an outdoor antenna can reduce it's signal gain by up to 50%. |
Question: | if i connect it to where my cable used to be that’s where it splits to all my tv’s .is there a power cord i need to plug-in out side |
Answer: | The MS-3005 is an amplified antenna and requires power from the provided power inserter on the coax cable. When splitting signal that power inserter has to be installed between the splitter and the antenna for proper operation. |
Question: | Does snow load impact the signal? If so, is there a heat mat attachment you can purchase |
Answer: | I've had a foot or more of snow and haven't noticed any degradation in signal strength. |

User questions & answers
Question: | The UHF phasing lines are too short to reach the black cartridge, anyone experience this |
Answer: | Also the lines are soft and flexible so if i remember correctly i needed to reshape the angles to make it fit properly. Assuming they are not 5" short that is. |
Question: | I have a problem receiving ch 22.1(hi vhf). the director element at junction of the two booms is missing. can i add that and what are the specs |
Answer: | Each and every city has different channels. These areas are called markets. Your channel 22.1 may be different than mine and some people don't even have a Channel 22.1. Every market has different channel lineups. |
Question: | Does it come with an amplifier, or do I need to purchase one? If I need to purchase, recommendations, anyone? Thanks |
Answer: | I bought one about 2 years ago, it does not come with an amplifier. To go along with it, I bought a Winegaurd AP-8700 amplifier, it lasted about 18 months and was fried by lightning (along with several other items in the house). Then I bought a cheap RCA amplifier, it lasted 1 day and was fried by a very minor electrical storm (nothing else in the house fried). Then I bought a Winegaurd LNA-200 amplifier and I'm very happy with it so far. (I live in a fringe area, near the top of a hill, 60-80 miles from the TV stations we receive) |
Question: | The product description lists this unit as a VHF antenna. The manufacturer's site indicates it is good for both VHF and UHF. Will it work for both |
Answer: | This antenna only covers the VHF high band Which I believe are the old channels 7 thru 13. Remember the channels displayed now have nothing to do with the channel frequency or REAL CHANNEL. This antenna is not designed to receive real channels 2 thru 6 well. I.E. there are three television bands VHF low 2-6 VHF high 7-13 and UHF . BTW there is no such thing as a digital antenna. An antenna just receives a signal its the TV receiver that interprets the signal to display it. All US TV transmissions are however digital transmissions now no matter what band or frequency they occupy. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this antenna be used with an older TV that needs an OTA translator box |
Answer: | I assume that it will, there is no reason that it shouldn`t. But you are missing out on a free HD signal that your antenna . I recently purchased a flat screen HD tv at a pawn shop for less that $100. |
Question: | Does it receive both Low and High VHV channels |
Answer: | The Winegard FL6550A is for UHF and high-band VHF channels 7-13 only. The H-VHF spec is listed on the Winegard web page at www.winegard.com/flatwave (and confirmed by Jim Chase at Winegard). But it's listed virtually nowhere else and it's too bad because it would save some folks from being disappointed in low-band VHF performance. |
Question: | If I mounted this only 6' above ground what reception could I get? I can't go higher because of Housing Association rules |
Answer: | According to the FCC, your HOA cannot prevent you from mounting an antenna on your roof. The rule (47 C.F.R. Section 1.4000) has been in effect since October 1996, and it prohibits restrictions that impair the installation, maintenance or use of antennas used to receive video programming. The rule applies to video antennas including direct-to-home satellite dishes that are less than one meter (39.37″) in diameter (or of any size in Alaska), TV antennas, and wireless cable antennas. The rule prohibits most restrictions that: (1) unreasonably delay or prevent installation, maintenance or use; (2) unreasonably increase the cost of installation, maintenance or use; or (3) preclude reception of an acceptable quality signal. Many HOA's continue to try to restrict you, but they are wrong. Property owners can restrict renters from putting up antennas, but as long as it's your property where you are mounting it, the HOA can't prevent you. |
Question: | I don't have an electrical outlet any where by the roof where I would have to mount it, any solutions |
Answer: | The electrical part of this antenna connects to where your main outside cable wire comes into the house. For example, my main cable is in the attic which is where the cable from the antenna comes in. So, I added a plug in the attic from my pull chain light that was already there. If you don't have an attic light you could find an electric junction box and cut in a plug. Or, if your main connection is outside you might just run an outside extension cord. I am not an electrician but I can tell you this antenna works great and save me a ton of money from paying cable fees and all the channels are in hi def and very clear. I am 45 miles from tv stations in Orlando, FL. Hope this helps. |
