9 best rv satellite tv systems
RV satellite TV systems are specialized setups designed to provide television programming to recreational vehicles (RVs) while on the road or parked at a campsite. These systems enable RV enthusiasts to enjoy their favorite TV shows and channels, even in remote or off-grid locations. Here's what you need to know about RV satellite TV systems:
Components: A typical RV satellite TV system consists of several key components, including a satellite dish, a receiver, and a control unit. The satellite dish is responsible for capturing signals from satellites orbiting in space.
Types of Satellite Dishes: There are two main types of satellite dishes for RVs:
- Stationary Dishes: These are permanently mounted on the RV's roof or exterior. They offer a more stable connection but may require manual aiming when setting up.
- Portable Dishes: Portable satellite dishes can be set up at your campsite. They are more flexible in terms of positioning but may require some manual adjustment to find the satellite signal.
Satellite Service Providers: RV owners can subscribe to satellite TV service from providers like DIRECTV, DISH Network, or Bell TV in Canada. These providers offer a range of channel packages and pricing options.
Satellite TV Coverage: RV satellite TV systems can provide access to a wide range of channels, including HD and premium channels, as long as there is a clear line of sight to the satellite signal. Coverage may vary depending on your location, and some channels may be subject to blackout restrictions.
In-Motion vs. Stationary Systems: Some RV satellite TV systems are designed to work while the vehicle is in motion, allowing passengers to watch TV while driving. Others are stationary and require the RV to be parked and leveled for optimal reception.
Installation and Setup: Installing an RV satellite TV system can be a DIY project or done by a professional installer. It involves mounting the dish, connecting cables, and configuring the receiver.
Subscription Costs: In addition to the cost of the equipment, RV owners will need to subscribe to a satellite TV service, which typically involves a monthly fee. Costs vary depending on the provider and package chosen.
Signal Reception: RV satellite TV systems require a clear line of sight to the satellite signal. This means that obstructions like trees or buildings can interfere with reception. Users may need to reposition their satellite dish if they move to a new campsite.
RV satellite TV systems are popular among RV enthusiasts who want to stay connected and entertained while on the road. They provide access to a wide range of channels and programming options, making them a valuable addition to the RV lifestyle.

Answer: | yes you can. they make a roof mount and also a rear ladder mount. |
Question: | We originally set it up in florida and it worked fine. added it to our existing dish subscription. went to birginia for the weekend ..nothin..do i hav |
Answer: | Did you call DISH with your new zip code? Are you using the dish in an RV? If so, the RV manufacturers are famous on not getting the wiring done correctly. Are you using a Wally or Hopper receiver? if so, these guys can be tempermental and frustrating. Is your coax cable new? Try calling Dish and have them walk you thru a set up. |
Question: | Do I have to subscribe to dish network |
Answer: | Yes, you would have to subscribe to DISH service and have a compatible receiver in order to use this system. |
Question: | Can it be mounted on the back of a semi truck |
Answer: | NO. The Playmaker model is meant to be a portable "set it out" type of unit, or it can be mounted on the roof of an RV. But it cannot take the shaking environment of a semi truck. Winegard makes the X1 model for trucks (Dish Network) and the G2+ model for trucks (DirecTV) and the in-motion D4 and T4 models can all be mounted on trucks using the DieselBoss bracket or the Winegard bracket. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for satellite internet as well as TV |
Answer: | Does not work as internet provider. Specs say it will work with up to a 50' coax. Mine does not. Using only the 25'. |
Question: | Is there a Warranty |
Answer: | New Winegard products have a 2 years warranty from the date of purchase. |
Question: | does it work in motion |
Answer: | The Carryout G3 is portable, but it does not work "in motion". Generally intended to set outside after you get to your destination. Set it on the ground, on a tripod, or even mount on the rv ladder. |
Question: | Whats the difference between the G3 and the G |
Answer: | The G3 has a larger reflector for 20% stronger reception strength. (less likely to lose signal in bad weather, or partial tree canopy, etc.) Also, the G3 is NOT made to be mounted on the back of a semi truck, but the G2+ is made with industrial-strength design and CAN be mounted on semi trucks. The G3 can be flat-mounted on an RV roof though using the roof mount kit. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many shows can be recorded at the same time |
Answer: | I had to cut mine down to fit my pantry. The width was correct; however, the length was not |
Question: | Can my home receiver works while we r at a rv park |
Answer: | You can definitely cut them, though they are thick. But out of one shelf liner you will be able to get either one or maximum 2 cabinets covered. They are extremely expensive yet not a neat option for cabinets. Remember the width is just 12” so if you decide to go with them as cabinet liners, you will have to cut multiple 12” layers in one cabinet. I love them on my pantry shelves as is not as a cabinet liner. |
Question: | Will the dish playmaker winegard pl8000 can pick up sign from the usvi st thomas |
Answer: | They are flexible and easy to cut if needed. ,, they are rigid enough that they sit on the shelf The box mine came in allowed them to be shipped relatively flat so they sat on the shelves without curling ,, love these ..keep ordering them for my new cupboards |
Question: | Does the package come with a receiver |
Answer: | It will not let you slide items on the liner. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this item work with this receiver Model HR |
Answer: | Yes, the Wally receiver must be plugged into an AC power source. |
Question: | I have direct tv will I need a box from direct tv to make it work |
Answer: | The antenna need to be on a steady platform to operate correctly. A boat would be to instable. I don't think it would work in South America anyway. |
Question: | I already have direct tv account with a box.. Looking for a new satalite for my camper? will this work? Thanks Bo |
Answer: | We are in Texas and we are receiving satellite 101, but I don’t know about the rest of the country. We are disappointed that we cannot receive the local or national channels, ABC CBS or NBC. We called King quest and come to find out those are on satellite 119 which our unit does not pick up. Therefore we were to buy another gadget for $80 to put on our satellite. So far we have opted not to do that. |
Question: | Why is the winegard g2 plus more expensive than the winegard g3 on amazon |
