Answer:	I'm doing the same thing, but building a box to house the old car stereo. The antenna mounts on top of the box. I hooked up everything to see if the antenna works before building the box. Answer:	most people say they reduce reception but I found it to be better than the stock one on my 1999 dodge Durango although I just put it on there for cosmetics and the car wash as I don't the am/fm tuner on my car stereo anymore but rather use my cell phone to play music videos. I bought one of those cassette player adapters that plugs into my cell phone and it works fantastic. I really like this antenna though.
